Here’s a little of what I said in ECLIPSE about today’s retrograde of Venus (at 7:32 AM PDT at 23 Gemini 59):
Any Venus area where we have met a dead end while she’s direct is an area prime for rejuvenation during retrograde.
This means that the changed tastes and willingness to try the new and unusual in Venusian pursuits that typically surfaces during this time can be a means to re-generate a part of life that we have worn into a rut with too narrow a viewpoint, taste palette, or definition of what’s ‘right’ or appropriate for us. ‘New’ can definitely be the keyword that frees up an area and an approach leading to new relationships, experiences, and an enhanced aesthetic sense that lasts and benefits us long past Venus’ direction. The retro period can serve to modify our Venusian standards and perceptions so that they are wider and at the same time more refined once the planet appears to move forward again.
What do you make of the impending Facebook IPO during the retrograde period of the planet symbolizing, among other things, relationships and cash? I haven’t studied any charts related to FB, including Zuckerberg’s, but do feel that the stock is immensely overvalued, and that it may plunge drastically within months of the initial offering. Don’t say I didn’t warn you 😉 (then again, if I’m wrong, you can take yourself to lunch on your earnings!)
I‘m away from home right now, so if you’ve written to me and I haven’t answered, it’s because I’m sitting looking out at the Columbia River, dealing with wonky wi-fi and ridiculous heat for this part of the world in May–but I can still get books and ECLIPSE to you, so feel free to order and take advantage of the May Special–2 extra months for a 6 month subscription (for a total of 8) and 1 extra for a 3 month subscription (for a total of 4–and recommended if you’re not sure a Weekly Digest that has articles, commentary, and complete aspect and Lunar forecasts is for you!) If you’re renewing or adding to your existing subscription, you get those extra months, too! Order Now

Dear Julie,
loving this week’s eclipse! what a worthwhile investment it has been! ~
i have a question related to some of the advice you gave regarding Venus’s retrograde and events of 8 years ago… (when I initially read that part, i kinda skimmed over it, thinking, “I have no idea what happened 8 years ago” but through conversation with some friends last night, that time period has come back into my focus… and an intense and formative period it was too!)
my question is just WHY 8 years? Is that the length of Venus’s orbit? Was that the last time She was in Gemini?
Thank you, wise one 🙂
Hope you are enjoying your vacation!!
Thank you, Tesa! So glad you’re enjoying ECLIPSE!
Though Venus retrogrades every 18 months, it takes 8 years for her to once again retrograde in nearly the same spot in the zodiac–it’s just the way the pattern adds up. If you draw each retrograde point of Venus onto a chart over an 8 year period, you get 5 points that can be connected to make a star, a nice little example of the symmetry of the Universe. 8 years ago, Venus retrograded at 8 Gemini 26, on 17 May 2004; this year she started her apparent backward motion at 23 Gemini 59, on the 15th–and every time she retrogrades in roughly the same area, but at a slightly different date and point of the zodiac–and this emphasizes how we must revisit this area of our lives, but how we are changed through the experiences of the 8 years that have passed. We see the issues from a slightly different vantage point, but find (because it’s happening in a particular place in the map of our lives) that we re-visit challenges related to this area, things that are very specific to who we are. Imagine our horoscope as a kind of ‘map’ of our body–and each time Venus retros the ‘issues’ we have with that part of the body ‘act up’–and we are challenged to deal with them, ignore them, re-visit our choices about them previously, and/ or heal or rise above the problem. We may always bump our figurative head when Venus retros in Aries–but over the years, we may learn to duck and avoid injury, and then find we have another Aries body problem to sort out, like a headache or high blood pressure. I’m not sure this body analogy is really working, but it’s what came to mind for me: if we can see the chart as the individual, then we can understand how that part of the individual is stimulated and brought forward with the event.
My apologies for not getting to this sooner–I suffered another computer problem that made me unable to work again yesterday, and then traveling today, I’m just now getting back to things. I hope this explanation helps, muddled as it is 🙂

Dear Julie,
I’ve read that during Venus retrograde, relationships can be lost. My guy broke up with me on May 16th saying he needed his space … after a year of being together. He hasn’t even once called or texted me since then. Is there any chance for things to improve once Venus goes direct?
Dear Tricia,
I don’t know–can’t even guess, as those kind of things aren’t dictated by the direction or retrograde of a planet. I can tell you this: during Venus retrograde our tastes change, and that includes in who we want to be around; because the break-up happened during the retro, your guy may wake up when Venus goes direct to find that he changed things in a way that doesn’t suit him, so there’s a chance you’ll hear from him after that. During Venus retro we are prompted to change or experiment with relationships–so he may regret it, or he may find that the experiment worked out fine–and you need to be ready for either.
