This may be a hangin’ offense, but I’m not only not seeing the upcoming eclipses as linked, I’m looking at them as separate events–and the first one, on the 7th at 2:21 AM PDT (point of the Full Moon, with eclipse beginning slightly after) at 15 Capricorn 24, helps me make my point, as the eclipse bodies make no exact contact to any other body. That doesn’t mean that nothing’s going on; there’s a lot of action, it’s just not related to the eclipse! When an eclipse makes no contact to other bodies, it seems to me to make an isolated energy statement that in effect locates all the eclipse energy and influence within natal contact; in other words, if it doesn’t make close connection to something in the natal chart, it probably won’t be felt at all.
Now, I know that view will be a disappointment to some, heresy to others, and seen as just plain wrong by a few (or many!) but all I can do is go with what I see–so here it is. I believe that other action occurring at the same time as the eclipse could easily be seen as being generated by or triggered by the eclipse–and certainly the extreme energy of an eclipse may influence the atmosphere at least as much as any Moon in hard aspect to the Sun does. That said, I see the significant energy elsewhere, though there are plenty of others who are taking the eclipse in a specific way (such as comparing it to the US chart) or are seeing it in a broad-pattern of eclipse activity that gives a different and valuable perspective.
Maybe I’m not able to connect to the meaning of this eclipse because it will semi-sextile my Ascendant–maybe the personal effect is that I try to intellectualize (Aquarius) what should be felt–and certainly the effect for me will be to illuminate something about my own personality (Sun quincunx Ascendant). But I digress; here’s where I think the action will be:
Mercury and Vesta will be exactly conjunct on the day of the eclipse, at 7 Cancer. This suggests communication difficulties with many possibilities–and I say difficulties because, even though a conjunction isn’t inherently negative or positive, a union of communication matters with the energy of the sacred implies a likelihood of strong defensiveness concerning one’s message, thoughts, or ideas. We may allow no criticism or disagreement, and may see our pronouncements as inviolate–what we think seems to us to be not just ;the Truth,’ but to represent a concept that may not be challenged–and this is shown further by the Mars exact square to Jupiter/ Neptune and semi-sextile to Uranus, suggesting a hair-triggered (and perhaps intellectually based) readiness to defend our beliefs/ fantasies/ ideals, and also by a Finger of God with Pluto apex and quincunxes to Venus and the South Node that implies it may be values or relationships from the past that bring forward an urge to destruction or change, perhaps aimed at others, who are of course defending those sacred ideas–a roundabout that could become frenetic with the energy of a Full Moon polarity charging the atmosphere.
Also exact at this time is a semi-sextile from Pallas to Saturn that could urge us in the direction of trying to give wisdom or skills a physical manifestation, and a Fist of God with Pallas as apex and sesquiquadrates from Pluto and Juno–here the wisdom or skills we own may require both Self-empowerment and the flexibility to change or transform ourselves or our circumstances in order to effectively come forward.
Overall, I’m expecting a burst of righteous opinion-assertive and defensive energy that plays like the accidental setting-off of leftover 4th of July fireworks–and the odd thing may be that most of us will feel we’re being reasonable, simply standing up for what’s truly important to us. A Cancer/ Capricorn eclipse dichotomy suggests to me the image of water flowing around a rock–no matter how insistent or forceful the flow, the rock is not immediately changed (though it may be lifted and carried to a new place). The Sabian symbol for the lunar eclipse degree (Dane Rudhyar) is ‘School grounds filled with boys and girls in gymnasium suits’ suggesting the need for an organized outlet for physical energy–and perhaps hinting at a way to channel what otherwise might cause strife and discord (possibly of an adolescent variety, as referenced by the image) if left on its own.
The Sabian for the Sun at the eclipse point is ‘A man studying a mandala in front of him, with the help of a very ancient book’ To my mind this points to Pallas’ active role at the moment of eclipse, implying that accessing wisdom (no matter the source) is what’s needed to fathom the meaning of the Universal pattern worked out before us, the mandala of the image.
As I look around and find material on the eclipse I’ll add links; start with this one by Jude Cowell http://judecowell.wordpress.com/2009s-two-solar-eclipses-11-north11-south-jan-july/ and for another view, try Beth Turnage’s site http://www.astrologyexplored.com/july-monthly-forecast-the-eclipse-is-coming-the-eclipse-is-coming/ and here from Lauren Lesko http://laurenlesko.com/6573 Stats on the eclipse here http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/LEplot/LEplot2001/LE2009Jul07N.pdf and see Neith and Pat’s take here http://realastrologers.com/?p=816 View April Kent Elliot’s take on things here http://bigskyastrology.com/bloggish/2009/07/06/full-moonlunar-eclipse-in-capricorn-live-and-learn/
Oh, this sounds like fun! The eclipse axis will be exactly squaring my natal Moon, so it’s very likely I will having an emotional response to all those righteous opinions. 🙂
Really appreciate the work you are doing with the major asteroids [if that’s not a contradiction in terms]. From what little work I’ve done with them, they definitely have something to offer.

Hi Neith, and Thank You! Now that I’m using asteroids all the time, I see them everywhere in life (just the other day saw a crate with the sign ‘Ceres Fruit’ on it!)–I think it won’t be long until they are a regular component of all astrology, as they add so much color and depth to the astrological lexicon.
Oh my, a T-square with your natal Moon–I’d guess that will give you a unique and sensitive perspective on things–and I’d also think it’ll bring some dynamic occurrences in the House with Cancer cusp. I hope this is a wonderful Moon experience for you! And that perhaps you’ll share how it plays out.

Julie, thank you so much for the link and for your balancing view – i’ve been unhappy with my own take but as you know, give me a Cap event and i’m off to the politics-law-business races esp where Washington is concerned. Can’t seem to help it, wish i could.
The emphasis on the Lunar Ecl’s Cap energies (with the Ecl’s lack of aspects to other planets, etc, as you mention so gracefully) and the fact that the Ecl is 2 degr from US natal Sun are the points i tried to make; not sure i did effectively.
And what i left out (because it was whole ‘nother can of worms i didn’t feel up to dealing with) is that the 15Cap24 Ecl lands precisely on the Pentagon’s Asc/Desc axis….Desc 15Cap37; natal Mercury/NN midpoint = Asc: contacts, negotiations, transactions, etc.
(Pentagon Apr 29, 1943; 10:30 am edt, Washignton, DC.)
So given this week’s major invasion of Aghanistan by US troops, i’ll be waiting to see if the Lunar Ecl uncovers something previously unknown (and/or from the past) even if we don’t like hearing it, perhaps in the Mercury/NN category of revelations and involving Cap issues and/or the Pentagon.
Thanks for all you do, Lady, and keep your asteroid insights coming please!

I’m half looking forward to the eclipses if only to shift this ‘stuckness’ I feel. The eclipses will hit personal planets in my chart — the July 7 lunar eclipse is a few degrees from my Cancer Mars, and the July 22 solar eclipse will make exact contact with my Capricorn Moon. So something colourful is bound to happen. I’ll be disappointed it if doesn’t!

Hi Jude–you’re very welcome, any time at all–as you’re the best, I feel it’s a privilege to link to your wonderful observations! I love that you are so tuned in to mundane matters, and particularly politics–something that interests me greatly but where I could never be half the astrologer you are–so thank you!
I find your observations about how this eclipse might play out with the country fascinating. It sounds to me like you’re suggesting the eclipse might trigger some big, fundamental change to our country’s identity–and I think that might be a good thing, considering all we’ve been through (and up to, Collectively speaking) over the past decade.
Thanks, Jude!

Hi hitch! I can sure understand wanting something, anything, to happen to overcome an energy impasse–and I’m certain, with those contacts to your natal chart, something will! Take it easy–as I’m sure you know, there’s always (just a little) care to be taken when we get what we ask for–jd

Aww shucks Julie, you’re being overly gracious on that score!
And since the Millennium it’s become something of a depressive branch of the Art, the Mundane stuff, but you know i have 4 Cap planets…Sun, Mercury, Mars, and Jupiter…not necessarily in that order but an overload i think.
Fundamental change is happening behind the scenes, yes, much more than we know and has been occurring for decades – one reason for my forebodings is that things have been speeded up as of 9/11 and they won’t end up to our liking. Sometimes you just want to be wrong, and on this i hope heartily that i am so completely, totally wrong.
The upcoming July 22 Solar Ecl which occurred last on July 11, 1991 – a year when Bush Sr was publicly unmasking his and others’ plans for a new world economic order (with the help of the UN and the Vatican) – is one basis of my misgivings about having a repeat Ecl this July in the same 11 South Series.
So if Astrology doesn’t describe the forward movement of processes, then I guess I don’t know what it describes. jc
ps: did i mention yet my Thanks to you for adding a link to Spring Tree Road?!! And for Two Hours as well – Thank You! jc ;p

Once again, Jude, you astound–thanks so much for following these larger cycles as they show in the social sphere–your work is invaluable. I share your concern about the eclipse of the 22nd, and what it might bring. On the bright side, we don’t have long to wait to find out what it delivers!

The July 7 15Cap24 eci is 10 degrees off a sextile
to my 15Sco14 Sun in my natal 3rd, so the 5 to 3 house energy is going to be used by me to write, as I’ll be home recovering from a slight procedure.
The July 22 solar eci at 29 Cancer is a degree off of a trine to my natal Sag Mars and Venus in the 3rd house and squaring my 0Taurus moon in the 8th.
Since I usually experience events with a solar more than the lunar, and usually a few weeks in advance, I’m guessing I might have a strange reaction tto he DNC procedure or at least very odd dreams in the “twilight zone”.
I’ll let you know how it all plays out.
Thanks again for these forecasts.
Between you and Jude I have all the “heads-ups” a girl could want.

Hi Donna!
Just a couple of comments: I use a very tight orb (no more than 2 degrees, typically) to determine eclipse effects. This is because eclipse energy is like a laser, concentrated in a narrow path, so my definition of what will be touched by an eclipse is rather narrow, too. I’m not sure what you mean, “ten degrees off a sextile” as 15 Scorpio to 15 Capricorn is a sextile–but that brings me to my second point, that ‘soft’ aspects (sextiles, trines) rarely have much change effect, though they can bring some energy to and light up any body they touch.
I’ll be interested to hear what effects you experience. Since one of the eclipses affects your natal Venus and Moon, the effect on the procedure you undergo will be interesting–trine to Venus suggests this particular operation will go well, while a square to the Moon could bring difficulties with anesthesia and fluid balances. And of course the Moon sign during the procedure is important–best to avoid the sign that rules the body part(s) involved.
Take care–and thanks for the kind compliment–love being considered in the same skill category as Jude–she’s the best!

You can tell I’m a little nervous.
I meant seconds, not degrees.
The procedure is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. July 6, tomorrow.
So I think the moon will be in Capricorn. I don’t know what degree exactly. I would think Scorpio would be the sign to avoid for the female parts department.
The July 22 solar eci in 29 Cancer is in my natal and solar return 11th house. (How I receive love, besides friends and long-range goals and organizations, right?) The friend driving me is young, and is bringing me a crockpot meal for the two days I plan to “lay in.”
Mystery surrounds the emotional reaction department – I think I will like being home resting, but worried about how I feel or how thinks went or just worrying.
Anyway, that’s my read.
Thank you so much for responding and clearing things up.
I’ll let you know how it all goes.
Donna D
Sorry, Donna–you sounded so confident, it didn’t occur to me you meant seconds! but I should’ve realized. In my view Cap is a ‘safe’ Moon for this kind of surgery. Sounds like you will be well cared for 🙂 Though it’s natural that you’re worried, being worried isn’t a ‘sign’ that there’s something to worry about (but you’d be surprised how many people take it as just that!) so I think, as you say, the only mystery is the emotional reaction–and we all need a little mystery in our lives, don’t we? 😉
Rest, recover–I look forward to hearing how it went–

My sun is at 17 degrees Capricorn and in my 5th house so I am a little nervous about this elicpse conjuncting my sun. Any advice?
Hello, C–I think the most I can venture is, expect changes to who you are (a scary, non-specific assertion, no?), and possibly to your creativity; also look to the House with Leo on the cusp. Maybe you could come back after and tell us how it went? Hope to hear from you! jd

Julie,
My partner will be having this lunar eclipse conjunct his Sixth House Saturn within 3 degrees. As this Saturn is part of a Grand Trine with his Pluto/North Node and MC, would one then read the eclipse as being trine these other points — Pluto/North Node and MC — as well?
As he’s in the midst of a longed for career change, I’m hoping the eclipse energy gives those opportunities he has in front of him (many of them “fated” … hard to explain) the boost they need to move to the next level.
:^)
Really enjoying your site, by the way. :^)
Thank you, Duse. I typically use a slightly smaller orb for eclipse contact (2 deg.) but there are times when judgment suggests stretching parameters. If you’re going to count it as a conjunction, then yes, the eclipse would be considered trine the other elements of the Grand Trine (as long as the variance there isn’t more than 2 or 3 degrees). Since ‘soft’ aspects tend not to create change but to boost extant energies, this might give your SO the boost he needs–but consider that right now, transiting Saturn is trine his natal Saturn–contact of transiting Saturn to itself being a very important indicator of worldly progress (the trine more often indicates a positive development in existing circumstances, a hard aspect actual change–but there’s no rule that says he can’t move on).
Good Luck to you both!

Julie,
How kind of you to respond and share your thoughts. Thank you.
In all actuality, the eclipse is in a much closer relationship via trine with his MC (14 Taurus) and North Node (15 Virgo). The Tr Saturn visit you spoke of — the Saturn trine his 12 Cap Saturn — took place during the height of his last career which, oddly, precipitated his current desire to change.
He is approaching a Secondary Progressed New Moon, so it’s not like it’s a total shock, right?
Interestingly, the upcoming Solar Eclipse will be square his Mercury/Venus, the rulers of his North Node and MC. Then the Lunar Eclipse in Aug will be square his MC. Perhaps this eclipse trine his MC tomorrow is introducing a situation which may manifest during the upcoming squares?
Just thinking aloud. 🙂
Thank you again, Julie.

Julie,
Thanks so much for responding….yes changes to who I am…leo is actually on my ascendant (house of self!) and with pluto moving through the 5th that has been a big theme over the last few years. I do have to say things I have noticed already…lanlord called 3 weeks ago and told us we need to move so my roommate and I are looking for a new apt. and also a job creation proposal I put in for myself over a year ago seems to be coming into being within the next month!
I forgot to mention that the July 7 eclipse is also exactly opposite my 11th house saturn at 15 Cancer 14.
I should mention too that the July 22 eclipse will be 1 degree opposite my mercury and 2 degrees opposite my venus…
Whew! Busy times…..

Hello! Thank You for this post. Although I’ve dabbled here and there and had my chart read a few times, much of what you say is like Japanese to me. I’ll be coming back though because it gave comfort! Times have been strange for years now. A friend read my chart this time last year and said I had just come out of many, many years of working through some serious lessons. She had a name for it and said that only comes once in a lifetime, if at all. She told me that things would definately be changing. Here I am a year later and the changes must be on a very subtle level…..that’s all I’m saying! 🙂 But it was comforting to read your perceptions of what’s going on, and to read other comments about people who have been feeling stuck. I love the moon and all the life-lessons aside…am excited to know about this eclipse!
Cheers!!!

Has anyone noticed; there is an exact Jupiter/Chiron conjunction (24 ‘55 Aq) on the day of the July 22 eclipse. This will form a t square to Obama’s natal Vesta (24 ‘58 Taurus) natal Uranus (25 ‘15 Leo).
There are other aspects going on in Obama’s chart during this eclipse that makes one wonder whether some big changes are ahead. Tr. Pluto still remains in close opposition to natal Venus (within a half degree). Tr. Mars at 6 ’58 Gemini in t square to Obama’s natal Pluto (6 ’58 Virgo) and natal Chiron (5 ’19 Pisces). An exact progressed Venus/Uranus conj. at 28 ’13 Leo opposite a very close progressed Moon/south node conj (26 ’51/ 26 ’56 Aq). The 7/22 eclipse itself conjoins tr. south node, US progressed Pluto and more notably an opposition to Obama’s natal Jupiter and the ‘09 US Inaugural Sun. There may be some ramifications to all this, especially with that Mars transit square natal Pluto. I wonder these aspects pose a serious danger?
