Remember, many people are unemployed, underemployed, etc…..I love your site & I value the guidence I get from it, but I just simply can not spend any money. It’s a major downer to be “cut off” but I understand you must make money for your efforts & probably more importantly, stop the thieves! I will certainly buy the ECLIPSE when I find a job & I appreciate that you still offer tidbits of whats going on above for free…..guidance is well needed in these desperate times.
Thank you, Daisy. I’ve certainly been where you are, having to watch every dime, so I can totally understand that. One thing I learned during that time was that I needed to put my money into what gave me what I needed, or into what I valued. It’s a bummer to me, too, to have to cut off complete public access to posts, but it’s a bitter lesson to find that my many hours of work are viewed by some as worth stealing, but not worth paying for! It’s interesting to me that astrology seems to fall into a category where lots of people seek its advice and counsel but attitudes about its monetary worth vary wildly, with some believing it’s a ‘gift’ that should be given to anyone who asks, all the way to those who recognize the years of study and practice that go into it, and who realize astrologers need to earn a living, too! And that’s my point, really, that for me, this is my job–so I do expect to get paid for it, however minimal that may be. We’re all living in the same economy, with the same pressures to earn and pay our bills. I wish you much good luck in your employment search–I know being out of work is very stressful (in my mind, there’s little, other than serious illness, that’s worse). You seem to be a positive and (even under such circumstances) a happy person, so I can only think that will draw in all that you need. Best, jd

Hi Lucy–not sure what some of this means, particularly “cast bread on all waters, not just private ones”? which maybe implies there’s a better way to get $$ out into the economy? But Fire signs, for all their impatience, are often the quickest to order their copies–so maybe that one’s a toss up!

Julie, times are terrifing, will I, (we) be working tomorrow, what force of nature will hurt us, (me), are human beings flawed, what is god, how far can the mind travel, will I eventually join others in the cleansing crucible of the sun, all true and perfect??????
So, two points I’d like to make: one, these are the questions people come to astrology to consider in the first place (along with ‘Where’s my true love?’ ‘What should I do for a living?’ and a thousand variations on these), so it seems to be an important way to consider these questions, and thus worth something; and two, I too am living in these uncertain times–and I’ll bet there are few of you who could afford to go to work, day after day, not knowing whether you’ll be paid or not–and with the added expectation on the part of your employers (for that’s what my readers and clients are, in a very real way) that you will show up, do the work, and ask to be paid only when it’s convenient! When you consider the situation of an astrologer (or any other Self-employed professional who is essentially selling their expertise and experience directly in the intangible form of advice/ guidance) then you might see that many people do not value what we do in tough times–because they can get their advice from friends, Aunt Frieda, and any number of entities that are willing to advise them–and it’s easy to forget that talk is cheap, but knowledge is not!

I’d love to sign up… but every penny is accounted for right now. Nothing extra… and when extra does show up, it immediately goes for necessities that are being put on hold. (Hopefully with Venus now direct, this will change soon!)

I expect that the disparity between those who who come to astrology looking for answers and those who study it as an art might help to explain the scenario. I see your publications as “study” material from the greatest of sources, which is why I always buy them. Of course, I am the type to study for fun. It may be that others do not want to invest the time and effort into complex reading. Just an idea.
I always make room for purchasing your publications because I agree that continuing to enjoy small pleasures in times of need is important. Movie ticket sales actually increased during the Great Depression, but then again, movies easily entertain. I also lack Earth in my chart, so I might not be the greatest at budgeting realistically. I don’t have a family so my financial needs are low, but Eclipse goes on the list with bread, eggs, and toothpaste for me. I just wanted you to know that, at least for me, your words are indispensable. Thank you, Julie.

I’m on a very minimum UK pension so I too have no money for inessentials. Daisy said it all for me; and like her, if I get a bit of work (some in the offing) I may subscribe (although I tend to spend any spare cash on dog rescue or horse charities). Nevertheless I very much appreciate what I am able to read on here for free, and I’m sorry those with money aren’t supporting your services.
Please note too that for some of who are not on Pacific time, it’s sometimes hard to know what to use! Finally, I do visit three or four astrology blogs daily, and there is a limit to what one can read; and I do feel like Courtney that some of the more detailed stuff is best suited to professionals or serious students. I hope this is helpful

I’m simply weighing my own investment/ returns here; apparently, those with money are supporting my services–the answer to my question seems to be (so far) that many who enjoy the blog don’t really enjoy the resources to support it. Funny that my original intent was to find out what I wasn’t providing, or how I was failing to serve needs–instead it all takes on the material aspect–just as we might expect today!

Julie, it could also be that people assume that subscribing to ECLIPSE is more expensive than it actually is. I know when I first discovered your site about 6 months ago I kept reading about ECLIPSE but did not subscribe because I assumed that a subscription would have been at least $20 or more. When I discovered that the price is only $4.95 I subscribed right away. Your price is very reasonable and well worth the money. I love ECLIPSE and your regular site.

You are not alone. It’s clear that many sites share your frustration regarding a lack of purchasing subscribers, and stealing. Even major media like the New York Times (and all major outlets) struggle with this every day. It’s no secret that many journalists have lost their jobs over the past decade thanks to a decrease in revenue.
No one seems to have a solution, but I’ve noticed that some embed their signature into the photos on their sites in order to fend off theft.
Some sites rely on sponsors; allowing them to feature their logo on your site in exchange for a fee.
But at the end of the day, it’s one of the oldest paradoxes around; a presentor could be paid for addressing an audience, yet – if they seek publicity or a wider audience then they may be willing to pay for the opportunity themselves. So – each arrangement tends to be taken on a case by case basis. So it is with web content. Perhaps web content is best used (to generate income) by increasing awareness among your audience so they are motivated buy a book you’ve written. (Or some other such one-time purchase content.) Pioneer Woman and David Liebovitz are two examples of writers who have done so.
Bottom line: It’s not you.

I too was under the impression it was more expensive – and I have been into the eclipse site to look! So maybe that’s something you can do, as December approaches – have a big push on clarity with a view to gaining new subscriptions at the start of the month, with maybe some special offer for the new year at the end of Dec? I think even I can afford £3 a month – I’ll sign on next week for December!
Meanwhile it would be immensely helpful if you can put GMT in brackets after N Pacific, for those of us in Europe. I often find btw that your emails get to me half a day late, which isn’t much help although it’s always of interest to read them and see ‘whether it happened like that’!
(I’m on gmail, so I don’t think it’s the mail server)
Emails are sent by WordPress when a post is published–so one must add the 8 hours (for GMT) to the times in the posts, or modify in whatever way is needed (not all of Europe is GMT, btw)–they are still in everyone’s future!–so the only reason they would be ‘late’ is if the receiving server holds the email because it came in a ‘batch’–and this I can do nothing about. Sorry
