The Old Man turns around at 10:09 PM Pacific Time tonight, the 25th, from his position at 17 Libra 13. What should we expect? Nothing will necessarily happen right away; the retrograde of the slower bodies tends to sneak up on us like an ACME anvil dropped by a plotting coyote from a great height: we do not actually feel the flattening until we are smooshed–up until then, we only get a hint of a shadow from the descending object and the whisper of something, something big and relentless and unstoppable moving toward us.
We can examine matters of the natal House where the turnaround occurs, as well as any close aspects Saturn is currently making in the sky and any he makes to our natal placements–these will all offer clues. Right now, using a 3 degree orb, Saturn is sextile Venus, square Pallas and Mercury, which are still conjunct, and conjunct my lieblings h.Zeus; the picture is of hard-to-hear but wise messages delivered, profit or relationship harmony solidified, and still operating with an eye on ambitions and desires and making them happen. But what happens when a major player withdraws his support?
There are typically two kinds of response to a Saturn retrograde: one may feature the famous change to what we thought was solid and sure, basically a replacement of what was sure with what’s uncertain, or we may be freed-up from restrictions or containment–it can be a time of realizing that our reality is not bound in quite the way we thought it was. So, we can see either of these basic approaches (or both, as some people experience one internally, one externally) applied to difficult-but-smart communications, a reality or materially-based relationship or earning/ financial situation, and perhaps a challenge: those ambitions and desires you’ve been working to solidify just might happen (or dissolve once and for all into dust) at this point–are you ready to get what you want? Or do you believe something will be taken away from you?

So well-explained as always, Julie! Great info for individual charts yet i’m also thinking of the ongoing US Saturn Return now w/ tonight’s SOTU 2011 delivered so near tr Saturn’s Rx Station. Austerity is all around us… jc
Thank you, Jude! I’m afraid you’re right–austerity may be our new watchword–our involuntary commitment, in all senses, for 2011!

Austerity has been visiting me for over a year now. I was hoping it would leave soon.
Hi April, I don’t mean to be glib, but since the outer is a reflection of the inner, it’s time to ask what inside of you has been cut back, denied, eliminated, withheld from others, trimmed, or outsourced? That should give you clues that help you see what it is you’re holding back from the world, that’s making the world hold back from you. Good luck–jd

if all countries are tangled in rope following the anvil down, ( in relative speed), we won’t notice, looking at others descent. That’s the feit currency, (metaphore not mine, but boy does it fit), Anyway who will be the first to hit bottom, everythings cool as long as we’re in the air.
Good point, Lucy

Saturn does not inhibit, it demands that you do what do with dignity. For instance, if you are in business and you fail to treat your customers in a dignified manner, with honor and respect etc. Saturn will spank your butt. However if you do cherish your customers Saturn will allow you to reach the highest mountain top financially and with the respect of your community. During this seventh house retrograde, saturn will deeply reward those who treat 7th house matters with dignity, and it will spank those who don’t . Saturn does not want to punish or inhibit, it wants us to learn one way or the other to always act towards each with other and yes towards ourselves with dignity. Those who fail to do this will always be spanked by Saturn, and the whining selfish clods will always claim that this most beautiful and misunderstood planet is inhibiting them. do it with dignity and honor and saturn will aid and reward you in ways you never dreamed possible.
Hello James, I’m not sure you read the post; this was specific to particular conditions last January, and discussed typical responses not what Saturn will ‘do’ to one. And I don’t know what the 7th House has to do with anything, as Houses are specific to charts, and nothing else.
Thank you for your input, as your basic message is the one I always give: that Saturn rewards Self-discipline.

I give up. Is not Saturn transiting the Zodiacs 7th house. You pass off as a common cliche the most important lesson one can learn . aturn is not about self discipline it.s about dignity. self discipline is a bore. Acting with dignity is a joy. Saturn demands dignity, not self discipline. I hope you truly have a wonderful happy rest of your life. I need no further comment from you, however i recomend you go to a park rest your back against a tree and ponder the significance of what I have just given you. I don.t deal in astrology, but i had a so called friend that used to try to manipulate me with it so I had to learn it in depth. I believe that through devine help I learned what i needed to know in less than a year. Personally , Jesus has led me to His Father and believing in Him with the faith of a little child I depend on our DEar Father for everything. I have no idea why I chose to comment in the first place. Oh well?
I agree, James–I see no reason for you to be here. If you actually believed what you say you do, you wouldn’t be here at all–and has it occurred to you, that if your ‘teachings’ were relevant, you wouldn’t need to come to others’ sites and berate them? Hard as it is to believe, I need no further comment from you–you’ve already shared your entire repetoire.
PS BTW, your fascination with “spanking butts” reveals a great deal–I recommend you look into this 🙂
