This can be a very soothing transit, and can make us feel that the social circle can be a nurturing and comforting place, and/ or that we can find solace and a home in a foreign environment, in educational venues, in teaching others, in religion–in whatever your mass opiate is–but it can also urge us to over-soothe ourselves, with too much comfort food, sleep, or anything else that knocks us out into that blissful baby-just-finished-a-meal zone of contentment and inattention.
