We only had one poll this week, ‘Is Love or Money your big ‘danger area’ with Venus in Capricorn?’ As of this morning, 28% say Love, 33% say Money, and a puzzling 39% are looking forward to this, as their natal Venus is in Earth; and I say this is puzzling, as we might expect more like 25% of readers to have Earth Venus placements. So what does this say? Maybe that people who are practical and concerned about concrete Venusian issues read astrology blogs out-of-proportion to their Airy, Watery, and Fiery counterparts.
I’ve had some intense, jarring experiences in the last few days where past and present have met in some unusual and intriguing symbolisms. People I haven’t thought of in years have popped into my head (or my dreams!) and the same seems to be happening to people around me–and I’m assuming, to you, too. What’s driving this? Perhaps Pluto at 29 of Sagittarius, exorcising the distant past, and conveying information about the now at the same time–if All is One, and there is no time in a linear sense, then a window is open that allows us to connect and synthesize elements of the past as they apply to the future, surely a delicious opportunity for understanding and acquisition of knowledge.
The Cancer Moon today (the 17th) quincunxes Pluto, suggesting that the emotional implications of the past and present reconciling will be at the forefront of our emotional reality; the Moon will also trine the Sun, then, when it enters Leo, trine Mars at 00 Sagittarius, and what action we might take will come clear. On the 21st the Earth perfects a quincunx to Pluto, bringing the material impact of all this Plutonian dredging and examining into focus (would that we could see this first, then receive the Mars/ Moon impetus to act, but ours is not to question why . . . ) The upcoming Sun/ Mercury Superior Conjunction on the 24th brings the final message–believe what is communicated at this point, as it will be the key to finishing up with Sag issues successfully.
The fog rolls in–literally, as it has done here in Seattle, and figuratively, with the Mercury/ Neptune square. We know the drill here, know all the keywords that can describe Neptune’s effect on communication, information, short-distance travel, sibling relationships, and so on, so how do we determine which one of the scary (delusion, illusion, deception) or uplifting (inspirational, idealized, dream fulfilled) banners should be hung on Mercury for us as individuals? It’s elementary, dear Watson: look at the emotions behind the messages (Merc in Water) and the ways in which they clash with our ‘mental pictures’ (Neptune in Air). A secondary method involves looking to the positions of transiting Merc and Neptune in the natal chart, noting what they may be aspecting (anything at approx. 19-23 degrees of Air and Water signs, plus the ‘off’ measurements of the quincunx and semi-square)–if this puts at least one of them in hard (conjunction, square, semi-square, opposition, quincunx) aspect to something in the natal chart, then your message and meaning come here–and don’t forget, this is a conflict-meeting of the rulers of several Houses in the natal chart–look here, too, for meaning. If you’re having trouble, describe the situation of the transiting planets in your chart in the comments section (not to my email!) and I’ll see what I can see!
And in the meantime, have a great Monday!
Hi Julie- thanks for offering to interpret these aspects. I find Neptune to be a difficult one to interpret on my own, perhaps due to its dual nature. Is it delusion or imagination? Or both? That’s often hard for me to tell.
T Neptune in my Aquarian 1st house is quincunx my Cancerian 6th house N Sun, exactly. T Neptune is conjunct N Vesta in Aquarius. T Neptune is square Taurean 3rd house N Chiron. T Neptune is sesquiquadrate Cancerian 6th house N Mercury.
T Mercury in my Scorpio 9th house is quincunx both my Piscean 2nd house N Moon in Aries and my Gemini 5th house N Venus. T Mercury is also coming into opposition with my N Chiron and square to my N Vesta.
You say a conflict meeting of the rulers of the houses, so this means Uranus, Moon, Venus, Mercury, Neptune and Pluto are important here (as rulers of the mentioned houses)?
I’m not as familiar with the asteroids in aspect, so it’s difficult for me to see the cohesive picture here (as it often is when I’m trying to integrate all of the aspects I see at any given moment).
Thanks again!

Hi Courtenay,
Wow, that’s quite a lot of activity! First I want to say, when I mentioned a conflict meeting of House rulers, I meant a meeting between matters of the Houses ruled by Mercury and Neptune–so for you the matters of, I believe, the 2nd, 8th, and 5th–so right away we see that this may be about resources, Self-worth, and creativity for you. And be sure that you keep orbs for quincunxes and sesquiquadrates at no more than 1.5 degrees.
My synthesis of the aspects suggests this: that you may currently be having difficulty pinpointing what really matters to you, to what you should dedicate your efforts and your life, and may also be having trouble dealing with both the primal wound and in mustering your unique skills–perhaps, everything hurts (!) and it’s extra hard to access what you know are your strengths. There is the idea that you must modify communications sufficiently to both express values and gain emotional satisfaction–and yet this may be very tough, as the Soul is struggling to gain a sense of true identity, because the natural inclination is to use this as a guide, and at present the Sun is obscured, and seemingly calling for unending shifts in an attempt to perfect.
Sounds more glum than it is–the best course is probably to try and gain some ground through the placement and House matters of natal Venus, as she reps values and aesthetics, and can stand-in temporarily for Vesta and the Sun–definitely, communicating the emotions through creative endeavours, and getting those out into the world, can result in gain both financially and in Self-worth assessment.

Wow. Thank you for your wisdom! This is exactly how I have been feeling, but I haven’t been able to articulate it fully. I could get bits of pieces of the analysis, but like I said was having a hard time integrating it all. I knew Venus was part of the answer, and now I have to work on acknowledging and nurturing the creative force within myself. Fortunately I have been able to maintain my optimism in what has been and still is a trying time.
Thank you for the heads up on the orbs. Those quincunxes are all within the 1.5 degree orb, but the T Neptune sesquiquadrate N Mercury is at 2 degrees 13 minutes, and T Mercury sesquiquadrate N Mercury is at 2 degrees 11 minutes. I always have a hard time finding good information on these “minor” aspects on the web.
You’re very welcome, Courtenay–I’m so glad the info was of help.
And Thank You!
Julie

Hi, Julie. Thanks for offering your help. I must admit I feel completely at a lost right now as to what I should or shouldn’t do: Mercury rules my Virgo Ascendant (with Saturn on the cusp right now) and Gemini 10 ( with N Moon on the cusp, square Ascendant and also square N Pisces Venus on the cusp of 7, with Uranus almost on it these days.
Add Neptune conjunct N Chiron and almost conjunct N Sun in 6. Well…not easy to make choices or even to know what my life will be like tomorrow. The fog and a moment to stay in bed all day? Or a unique opportunity to change things?

Hi Katia,
I’m not clear on the first part of your description, since I’m looking for the location of transiting Mercury in the context of the chart, but the latter part is clear and does paint a definite picture, and I can extrapolate from there. Neptune to Chiron and the Sun are classic positions of uncertainty and confusion, particularly about your gifts, those things you can share with others, and about who you are at a Soul level. And with Neptune transiting the 6th, this is faced on a daily basis, and likely makes you question all your routines, activities, and choices–you may change your mind day to day as you try to assess what should continue and what should go. With Mercury square this and ruling your ASC, we might expect that the questioning includes uncertainty on your Self-presentation, as well. Unfortunately, there’s nothing you can do to hurry this effect; the best thing is to get a firm grip on your natal Neptune, to channel it into something creative and imaginative–this will help Neptunian energies find a place to go, and will then help you sort reality from fantasy or delusion in the daily life–Neptune generally only fogs things up when it’s not being used as effectively as possible. So, a nod to the creative, to inspiration, or to the spiritual may go a long way toward making it much easier to see what to do during this transit.
