Dear Julie– I love your blog and read it without fail!
Your poll didn’t address my primary concern: the solar eclipse will be exactly conjunct (within a couple of minutes of arc) the ASC of my husband’s second Saturn return. Since it’s a South Node eclipse, and falls on the 29th degree of Cancer, I’m wondering about its possible significance to him, and am concerned that it signals job or professional loss, or something else negative. Do you have any suggestions for interpreting a direct hit to a sensitive point in a return chart? He’s a top finalist for a government job right now that deals with affordable housing issues (so the Cancer connection makes perfect sense)…
Thanks for any ideas on interpretation, or other things I should be analyzing in the chart to understand possible implications!
Thank you, Denise!
My thought is that, in removing a transit event effect (for that’s what an eclipse is, a Full or New Moon of note) from the setting of the natal chart, we lose context for the event itself in terms of effect on the individual. I’ve never used a Saturn Return chart, simply because this is an event related to the natal event so specifically that to remove it from the natal setting also removes a certain amount of texture and meaning; if we don’t relate events to the nativity, we might as well be talking in vague, theoretical terms. There is also the idea that the Saturn Return doesn’t really have a ‘moment’ of occurrence, and thus no Ascendant–it is instead a span of time, beginning before exactitude, indicating reassessment and reorganization of life structures, and the reaping of results of the previous span. So, though this may be a chart of use in some way, I’m unfamiliar with it, and not able to judge it.
If you’d like, please contact me directly at my email juliedemboski@hotmail.com and I’ll be glad to take a brief look at your husband’s natal chart, and the transits he’s undergoing, and give you some idea of what they might show.
while there is a majority recognition that an astrological
event has no business inspiring fear in anybody.
negative expectation from astro event, my god,
it is the dark ages is it not?
I hear that a lot as basic reason people stay away from
astrology. A recognition you are entering a path of fear and
superstition… black cats and witches… unchristian-
And indeed, I can perceive the supernatural around me already from this event… and am in fear myself.
The dread of a solar eclipse, woe unto us as a culture-
so bereft of spirituality… what was that T.S. Elliot line?
Could it be this:
“Their fear of fear and frenzy, their fear of possession,/ Of belonging to another, or to others, or to God/ The only wisdom we can hope to acquire/ is the wisdom of humility: humility is endless”
Then maybe we should all remember this:
“Yet the enchainment of past and future/ Woven in the weakness of the changing body,/ Protects mankind from heaven and damnation”
So there.
That’s enough of the needless gloom and doom talk.
Well Julie, I answered your Eclipse poll for ‘positive effects’ on a natal planet but since it’s Mars here, I’m thinking positively and perhaps a bit wistfully.

Hello Julie, I am not a real expert in astrologgy, but quite enthusiastic and I´ve been reading your site.
I guess eclipses always have a huge impact – it accelerates the speed of things, whatever it has to be, happens…
I´ve been fired on July 2nd – few days before a previous eclipse, right?
I am a Cancer and today (July 18th) is my Birthday! I truly believe the next eclipse will bring me good opportunities to move ahead.
Kind regards and congratulations for the site.
Fernanda
PS – I hope it is clear enough – English is not my native languate 🙂
