I’m finishing up one of the articles for the next issue of ECLIPSE and I have a question for all of you: Who would you say is the most likeable public figure you can name? I have some ideas, one in particular, and for months now I’ve been informally surveying everyone I know–so I have a perfect example, I’m just wondering if I’m missing someone. I’m trying to think of individuals who draw little or no negative reaction from others. Please put your nominees in the comments section–I’d love to hear what your ideas of likable encompass, and who embodies them!
There’s a new post at ‘Been There, Done That’ http://askjulie.wordpress.com –just a few musings on Self-defeating outlooks.
Starting November 1st, all forecast material other than brief New and Full Moon assessments and some commentary on transit and aspect configurations will appear on private pages accessible to ECLIPSE readers only. For those who are disappointed that the majority of material here will no longer be free, my apologies–I have several reasons for wanting to structure things this way–and my feeling is that if you are truly interested in my outlook, you’ll invest 5 bucks in ECLIPSE and get the password–and if you’re only an occasional visitor, you’ll still find assorted short articles and some current sky commentary, but can travel on to more favored blogs/ astrologers for your daily information. This way we all benefit, as I can provide an even more detailed, and real-time updated, outlook for readers (that’s been a frustration for me, having the different forecast bits separated; with them all in one place, and being able to go in day or night and add to them, it will concentrate both the information and my energy in one place.)
By 3 AM PDT of the 21st the fresh Aries Moon will quincunx Venus and oppose , Saturn, perhaps bringing forward some challenges involving relationships, values, and/ or finances, and the adjustments needed to conform to the demands of reality. We’ll have the emotional energy to tackle this, but may balk at what’s really needed, preferring to do things our own way (Aries). In the end, we need to see it as an opportunity to deal with some important issues and make them better. Notice that Ceres and Pluto have been together for a day or two now (ECLIPSE readers already have material on this)–this pairing is a power ultimate, and joined by the Aries Moon, the atmosphere may be ripe for ultimatums–avoid this if possible, as others are just as focused on having their own power needs fulfilled, and will likely butt heads (how Arian!) even when their ‘druthers in less assertive times might be to give you what you want.
And whatever you do, have a great day!
Next up, the Full Moon~
Oh dear, Julie – am having trouble thinking of a Most Likeable Public Figure…i assume you mean alive today? Maybe…Michelle Obama? Nah! (Her husband has too many enemies.) But no one else’s name springs to mind! Is it me – or is it our society that builds people up so it can tear them down for bigger headlines?
You see my dilemma! I finally went in the direction of celebrities, as political figures and those associated with them bring too much partisan feeling out in others. But thanks–that’s about the most positive national non-entertainment figure I can think of!

Stephen Colbert is the first name that jumps to mind and the more I think about it, the more I agree with myself 😀 He’s likeable, he’s ethical, he’s funny, he’s smart, and he’s committed to making a difference using comedy as a way to create a common connection and the celebration of truthiness. So Mr. Colbert is The Man #1a. Jon Stewart is The Man #1b for the same reasons. As far as I can make out the only people who dislike either of these gentlemen are those who not particularly committed to either a common connection or the celebration of truth.
And Julie . . . I applaud your decision. I’m already a dedicated Eclipse reader (and I *loved* ‘Juno in the Natal Chart’, so brava on that too) and I am delighted to invest $5 to receive even more of the daily benefits of your expertise and your voice. Another plus for me, the reader, is having all the material concentrated in the same place because I’ve been going back and forth too. So hurrah! More happiness for everyone!
Hi Julia,
I heartily agree with you about Steven Colbert as a potential subject, but I can’t say the same of John Stewart (though I personally love them both)–I’ve heard some less-than-flattering things said of John Stewart quite openly, while Steven Colbert seems to have a no-criticism bubble around him–and I hate to think of the possible reasons some attack one and not the other 😦
Thanks so much for your support on the consolidation decision, and for your kind words about JUNO–so glad you enjoyed it! Thank you, Julia! jd

Even the Dalai Lama and Oprah have enemies so maybe a philanthropist like Bill Gates?
And you think Bill Gates doesn’t have enemies? I beg to differ on that one! Thanks, Layla!

There are others but I kept this narrowed to “Likable” not admired or loved
Tom Hanks, & All First Wives — especially if the President is disliked
Historic: Walt Disney
Excellent examples–TH in particular, and you make a good point about First Ladies!though I would say Disney’s creations are what’s liked with him–I don’t know how much he is thought of as well-liked. Thanks, Melissa!

Tom Hanks popped right up in my head.

Julie,
Maya Angelou – not really political, Jimmy Carter – folks who don’t have what a lot of other people want. So they don’t fall into the “feet-of-clay” category. Even Pope John Paul, beloved by so many was part of the catholic vs others drama.
It seems most folks want to pick sides, we-they, mine-yours, ours-theirs, and only when we can all really be as one and recognize our common spirit as the glue of humanity will we appreciate everyone as in namaste.
Just a thought.

I think you’ve got a winner with Maya A, though you make an excellent point: too often it is divided up into sides–so I think I’m looking for a kind of Universal appeal that doesn’t rely on identification with the individual’s orientation, causes, heritage, or religion–something where, even if someone isn’t judged as being #1, they’re at least not someone who draws negativity from others. Thanks for the input, dd!

Last night in Vancouver, 20,000 young women liked Justin Bieber a lot. Are you thnking of the most likeable candidate in an age category? I heard Jane Goodall on CBC this monring. She would get my vote. What’s not to like about Jane? Everybody has appreciation and admiration for her dedicated research on our closest kin. I wonder who she would name? Cheers, Beaverlodge
I can’t say a teen pop idol fits the bill, though I’m partial to Jane G–and I’ve never heard a word against her! Intriguing thought–who would those we admire name? Thanks for weighing in, BL!

I have a few; first and foremost, HH Dalai Lama for loving kindness everywhere he goes.
Steven Forrest Astrologer because he’s the kind of magic man we all need and want in our lives…deep knowledge coupled with a heart of gold.
Cher because she’s so damn real in everything she says, because she honored Sonny so well when he passed. “You can take everything I know about men and fit it on the head of a pin.” If Cher doesn’t know, what woman could?

Hi Julie,
If I had to think quick regarding someone likeable, I would say Dr. Oz – I haven’t come across anyone that doesn’t like him. There are so many choices out there.
oh he’s a good one, Terri–thanks!

Justin Timberlake. Seriously. He’s turned out to be smart, funny, sexy, and not afraid to laugh at himself.
Also, I agree totally with Michelle Obama; I would have said Jon Stewart, but I see that’s come up. I have ambivalence about Dr. Oz since he started doing the daytime television thing; I think it’s made his brand, if you will, less likable.

One more thought.
When a truly charismatic person arrives on the scene, like Michael Jackson when he was very young, or Barack Obama when he spoke at the Democrat
National Convention years ago, going global for the first time. Many celebrities have that star quality, the “it” factor. Many others light up a room when they enter, winning hearts and minds. I, too, would like to know what is at the root of this attraction. People who give me goosebumps always get my vote.
