‘Tightrope’ By Paul Klee 1880 {{PD}}

Tomorrow the Sun enters orb of a quincunx to Pluto and perfects a square to Pallas, and more than anything, this may be disorienting, just coming off the Sun’s square to Neptune as we are. The Sun in Gemini isn’t just about communication; it’s as if the very air is charged with information, transmitted invisibly–and yet we know, or at least we suspect, feeling vital revelations as they’re on the verge of forming coherent intel. The contact to Pluto may shake the ground beneath our feet; we suddenly become very unsure of the change we’re witnessing, and question whether we can see its larger meaning. This uncertainty is all because we question our own inner wisdom–or is it that we are being contrary, rejecting the smart or the practical option, because that offers a sense of control, which is something we don’t have if we seem to be acquiescing to a larger authority or a greater wisdom?

So, how do we keep our balance? Accept that we have within us the wisdom and maturity to know what we know, to take the right steps, to do the smart thing. We have the choice to see the nudge from Pluto not as an earthquake but as a display of real power that shows us where we stand in relation, that points out where we do (and don’t) hold true power ourselves. And we can respond to the tough circumstance that calls on us to access our inner adult gratefully, knowing that we have the answer within that will make everything go well–just as long as we aren’t too stubborn, Self-sabotaging, or flippant to ignore it.

Today’s Word Image is a dense forest, uninhabited, where explorers suddenly spot high in the trees a clutch of bright balloons caught in the branches. In blazing ‘new territory’ (in relation to your personal experience) where have you found something incongruous and unexpected? What was your reaction to it? Did anyone try to ‘sell’ you on this being a good thing? Is the shine and flash of celebration distracting you from something important? The reality is, those balloons don’t belong in the woods, and in the end those Mylar creations will be nothing but trash. I think this is a message to not be too impressed by, enamored of, or misled by something, just because it’s shiny–if it doesn’t fit the overall picture, it doesn’t belong there, and treating it as if it does could waste valuable time, or just end up polluting something that should be kept pristine.

By Utagawa; Hiroshige (I) , Utagawa died 1858; Uoya Eikichi Hiroshige (I) – http://www.rijksmuseum.nl/collectie/RP-P-1956-754 (handle), Public Domain, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=89018464

The 16th Is A Good Day To . . . do it! Today we get a massive green light for our actions; we have the clout, knowledge, personal authority, and receive the cooperation we need to get ‘it’ done. With the benefits to action obvious, and so much clarity of thought in place, what could possibly hold us back? Only one thing, ourselves, specifically if we choose to indulge in either behavior rooted in old wounds, or if we see it as the chance to deliver some (in our judgment) much-deserved wounding ourselves. If we’ve avoided acknowledging our anger, our rage, of late, or if we haven’t admitted that we, like everyone, carry destructive energies, these may well up and assert themselves through our choices and conduct–but otherwise, if we can avoid denying our feelings, we can go forward with rewarding, even stellar, results.

A Good Day To . . . is based on the aspects perfecting on each day, Pacific time.

Today’s Word Image is from a dream I had last night. As dreams often do, they present us with scenarios that seem perfectly logical while we’re in the dream, but that become odd and difficult to convey once we’re awake. In this case there was a new ‘invention’, a thing made of paper that was both a book and a car, but that didn’t actually go around like a car–it instead acted as a ‘place holder’ for a parking spot on a busy street–and it could fold into many shapes and be used as a carry-all–and this was aside from the way it held a story/ information that was chiefly meant to be read. This paper construction was something my younger sister (I don’t have one) and I were giving to our father (not my real-life father), and the whole thing was set in a place called Mission Bay.

Old timey ephemera aimed at the clog-seeker. {{PD}}

I know what this dream means for me, but what would it mean for you, if it were yours? What ephemeral (often applied to paper works seen as of temporary interest, from the Greek word ‘ephemeros’, meaning ‘lasting only a day’, or ‘short-lived’) but useful construct is both new and useful to/ gifted to the ‘responsible’ (Saturnian ‘father’ figure, or the Sun as the dynamic identity oriented toward Self-realization) part of yourself? What is your narrative around duty, work, obligation, Self-control, as it applies right now, however fleetingly, in the moment? What story are you telling yourself about achievement, about ‘getting there’? What do you see as your Fate? What do you need to tell yourself that makes a mental ‘space’ for when you need to propel yourself forward, and what ‘baggage’ have you stored in it (and that can include those stories you tell yourself about who you are and where you’re going)? Just some things to ponder. Have a wonderful Sunday!

‘Der Brief (The Letter)’ By Johann Georg Meyer 1851 {{PD}}

The 1st Is A Good Day To . . . promise yourself you won’t communicate from a position of hurt–and further, that you won’t inflict hurt yourself. One thing we need to remember about our own part in hurting others is that we don’t get to determine whether someone else should feel hurt by something we’ve done; it’s not up to us to grant permission, or to assess the validity of someone else’s experience. Today’s a day that may test our own ability to recognize someone else’s pain, to honor it, and to apologize, if appropriate–and part of that is refusing to judge the ‘rightness’ of another’s experience.

If your response to this is, ‘Well sometimes others say they’ve been hurt to manipulate,’ I would say, ‘Yes, sometimes they do, but we don’t have to respond to that. Our only job here is to acknowledge that we can’t really know the experience of someone else. If you feel someone is trying to manipulate or control you, you can witness their statement of hurt, admit (to yourself) that you don’t get to judge this, all the while refusing to feel an obligation to ‘answer’ the demand you believe is being made. If you’ve been raised to jump to and see assuaging others’ discomfort as your responsibility, this may be very difficult for you. But learn how to respond appropriately, and you’ll be free.’

A Good Day To . . . is based on the aspects perfecting on each day, Pacific time.

‘Squirrel Eating Chestnuts’ By Kawabata Gyokushō c1890 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a one-eyed squirrel so small he fits through the cage around the bird feeder and shares seed as if he’s one of the birds! In what way has seeing yourself as ‘not enough’ made you adopt behaviors you wouldn’t otherwise have engaged in, or hang with a crowd you don’t really feel a part of? Have you judged yourself unable to compete in the arena you really want to be in? Being unique is a gift, and your tribe will (at least, eventually) appreciate and honor that (I’m particularly talking to those who may be leading with these energies: ground-breakers like Aquarius, deep feelers like Scorpio, and Artists like Pisces), so there’s no need for Self-exile–you just need the courage to enter the fray–and then again, there’s nothing wrong with seeing the world from another point of view, and making friends who are very different than you, especially ones who may not entirely understand you–but they accept you, and that’s what counts.

A Good Day To . . . 30 June 2020 Sidle Up

Sidle up sounds like saddle up, doesn’t it? By Anson Ambrose Martin c1840 {{PD}}

The 30th Is A Good Day To . . . approach things obliquely, especially expressions of personal Will or efforts to promote one’s own competence or elevate one’s own status. Even though we may feel alight with good ideas and eager to implement them, we may not anticipate the way what we’ve ignored or denied up to now comes roaring back to muck things up. And it’s not just that; this is the Inferior Conjunction of the Sun and Mercury (inferior referring to Mercury’s retrograde state), a time when our retro-period mulling plants the seeds for new ideas and ways of thinking, so can be the starting point of ways of seeing that would find our current choices, if successfully implemented, less than satisfying.

Better to proceed with caution, allowing ourselves to be informed via the surprise, the off-beat, and the unexpected, meeting challenges with an inventive and original turn of mind, not pushing too hard for any particular result.

A Good Day To . . . is based on the aspects perfecting on each day, Pacific time.

Today’s word image is: on a warm summer night, a car idles for hours. In what way are we ‘running our engine’, wasting energy and resources, when we should ‘go dark’, allowing ourselves to rest? Covid times are tough on all of us, in ways we often can’t anticipate, and prompting us to try to be continually ‘ready’ for what we must face, to always be doing something productive or to improve the Self. That may have served us as an initial response to a multitude of stressors, but as summer arrives we need to be willing to get adequate rest, to refuse a kind of hyper-responsibility that doesn’t serve and is highly draining. Turn off your engine, get out of the vehicle, and look up at the stars.

7 August 2019 Focus on: Sun trine Jupiter

Jupiter’s clouds as photographed by the spacecraft Juno, at a distance of just under 19,000 km, roughly the distance between NYC and Perth. By NASA/JPL-Caltech/SwRI/MSSS/Gerald Eichstadt/Sean Doran {{PD}}

Our attention is on some Jupiterian concept or area of life, consumed with having or getting more, with expanding our world, with the facts, with finding or making opportunity, with ‘getting the word out’ in some form or fashion, with learning or teaching, with beliefs, and with certain forms of freedom, the ‘don’t tie me down’ kind. Some astrologers see this transit as lucky, and it can be, but the luck arises from our concerted focus on Jupiterian elements of our lives, rather than from any external force that randomly bestows favor. It’s a case of being lucky precisely because we are attuned to where we can expand, where we can find more. We’re ready to grab the opportunity or take the advantage as we become keenly aware of it as soon as it’s on the horizon, even feeling it as it approaches. And that’s where we meet the other aspect perfecting today, the Sun quincunx Saturn. This has to make us wonder what obstacle must be removed, what reality accommodated, what restriction gone around, what suppression thrown off, before we can get our hands on Jupiterian abundance. Find the benefit, find the obstruction, and you know just what you’ll need to do, to get your version of ‘More’.

For those born with the Sun at 15 Leo. Check your natal chart for the correct Sun degree (you may want to read both the degree number and the one that follows, if you have minutes on your Sun position–together these offer a more complete picture of your year ahead) Dear Leo, though it’s important for you this solar year, through to your next birthday, to have a clear idea of what you want and to go after it, it’s also important to know: the facts; what you truly believe; and what stands in your way. If you don’t sort those out, you may end up spinning your wheels, frolicking on a sunny beach, getting and changing nothing–and for some people, that’s perfectly fine. You, though, may be a little more restless than this, and do need to find some way to widen your horizons. Learn, travel, expose yourself to the new (to you) and exotic, and have no fear–you’re meant to break certain constraints this year, and your natural inbuilt cautions will warn you when you’re about to go too far. Good luck!

Today’s word image is a pilot who doesn’t seem to know how to fly the plane! Is there someone in your world who’s supposed to be an expert, who’s ‘in charge’ of important events in some significant way, who’s just not competent? Aside from any suggestion that they’re holding a position they shouldn’t, be aware that as frustrated as you are, they are just as frustrated, just as confused. The incompetence isn’t a feature of this person insisting on pushing their way into something they can’t handle, but more a result of being handed a status they never meant to hold in the first place. Go easy on them, and don’t get on that plane!

{{PD}}

Seeing this Jefferson Airplane poster made me think of a time decades ago when I was babysitting some tweens. These were the days of Jefferson Starship. I joked that they must’ve gotten themselves more modern transportation, because they used to be Jefferson Airplane. The scoffs could be heard ’round the world. I was told in no uncertain terms that if I was going to make up stories, they’d need to be better than that!

6 August 2019 What We’d Rather Forget

Anyone else feel lately, for want of a better word, ‘haunted’? What we’d like to not think about is right there, isn’t it? Our anxieties are free-floating, and our minds, in trying to deal with them, look around for problems that can explain our feelings of hopelessness and dread. Am I being too dramatic? Maybe, but when we’re so charged-up with worry that we comb our lives for upsetting scenarios to attribute that anxiety to, then we’re cart-before-the-horsing it, and so misdirecting our attention, effort, and energy into trying to solve problems (mostly through worry!) that don’t really exist–and meanwhile, our dreams gather dust and our forward momentum is lost. The antidote? Face what you’ve been avoiding, but don’t let it dominate your thoughts; that is, take action to alleviate conditions, and/ or just move along–half the time those things we’re obsessing about are outside our control, anyway. And try to see how these matters that plague us may have roots in wounds to or some kind of violation of what we see as sacred, to be honored, or as ‘rules to live by’. We often have a very difficult time looking at or even recognizing something so deeply but narrowly traumatic. Tomorrow, the 7th, we see a Sun-Jupiter trine with Sun quincunx Saturn, suggesting bounty, opportunity, expansion, the kind of positive scenario that can’t happen unless we’re willing to deal with and modify the reality picture, to include what’s holding us back.

(Perfecting today: Chiron semi-sq Vesta, Mercury sesq Black Moon Lilith)

For those born with the Sun at 14 Leo. Check your natal chart for the correct Sun degree (you may want to read both the degree number and the one that follows, if you have minutes on your Sun position–together these offer a more complete picture of your year ahead). Dear Leo, you can just feel Love, Money, or some other wonderful something sneaking up on you, can’t you? This feeling persists through the solar year ahead, and promises big opportunities and pay offs to come–so what must you do to make these realities? Number 1, match your status and empowerment level to your action level–make effective moves by acting in ways that you’re already empowered to do and in roles and venues that already recognize your authority. Number 2, keep your eye on the prize, not the one at your feet, but the one at a distance, the one that requires a long-term effort, as that’s the one that offers out-sized reward. And number 3, work with your instincts and intuition so that you are not just comfortable listening to them, but can call on and trust them without too much intervening thought. Good luck!

‘Self-portrait in a convex Mirror’ By Parmigianino c1523 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a portrait: someone who is placed in a position of ‘helping’ who is deliberately placed there because they know nothing about the issue! What does it say, for instance, that someone is in a position to help sell something, but can’t even answer basic questions about the item? To me it says that those selling don’t want to answer any questions, that in fact they want an impulsive, emotion-driven, unthinking purchase to be made–and that may be the case when the seller knows of issues they’d rather not acknowledge. Some people think, the less informed the party buying their sh*t, the better. Do you really want to ‘do business with’/ be involved with that?

‘La Leocadia’ By Francisco Goya c1820 {{PD}}

We’re at that liminal, Dark of the Moon point, just before both the New Moon in Leo and the station direct of Mercury. That means a lot of tension with nowhere to go, a lot of feeling around in the dark, trying to get our bearings, a lot of effort made that won’t quite meet the mark–and that’s okay, really, because at this time we’re likely gaining access to areas of the unconscious that are usually well-hidden by the conscious mind. Wisdom can seep into the mind at this point without our being aware of it, a kind of subtle intake that will only make itself known later. The trick today is to avoid acting on delusion, misinformation, or in misunderstanding of our own values (Yes, this can happen, if one is telling oneself one’s values are other than what they truly are). We learn by absorbing, and especially valuable to us at this time are the lessons we can glean from power entities, those in authority; we can gain knowledge simply by observing their interaction with what they consider their domain. Though seemingly a passive point, there’s a lot going on here below the surface–so relax, and know that no striving is required in order to get things together effectively.

(Pallas nov and Venus contra-parallel Ceres, Neptune sxt Vesta, Mars qnx and Venus sesq Neptune, Mercury parallel Pallas)

The table’s all set for a Happy Birthday. ‘Open Door on a Garden’ By Konstantin Somov 1934 {{PD}}

For those born with the Sun at 07 Leo. Check your natal chart for the correct Sun degree (you may want to read both the degree number and the one that follows, if you have minutes on your Sun position–together these offer a more complete picture of your year ahead). Well you’re a firecracker, aren’t you, dear Leo? What scene did you just recently blow up, what riot start, what chaos unleash, that you may have to spend the solar year, through to your next birthday, atoning for? Oh, maybe it’s not that harsh, maybe it’s only that you’re being asked to re-construct, resurrect, transform, or tear down to the ground something that’s always been there–and you may wonder why, and why you are the one being asked. Let’s just say it’s because you’re the one that has the correct status, who holds the position that can make it all happen–and you have the energy, and yes, ego, to take it on successfully. A lesser Being couldn’t even approach making this change. The only question you need answer is, Who do I need to surround myself with in order to make the most of that post-change world? Good luck!

Today’s word image is another dream symbol, a sabre-toothed tiger. An extinct predator, prehistoric–so we might ask ourselves: What previous danger (one we still see as impacting us) is actually long gone? And doesn’t that suggest it’s time to let that go as a part of the psyche, or even as an excuse for particular responses and views?

‘The Organ Rehearsal By Henry Lerolle 1885 {{PD}}

Today is not about blazing new trails, it’s about refining, even perfecting, those power positions we already hold. In the best version of these influences, we adjust expression of our status or role to better fit our ideal of it, and this includes the task of freeing ourselves, at least a little, from past choices, as well as challenging our sense of Self and purpose to live up to its most original and unique qualities (rather than to shun those very same qualities in an attempt to find greater acceptance). A failure to see how and where our current position can be improved may lead to denial of our own ability to affect things, which only tempts us to return to outmoded ways of choosing and acting, and encourages us to reject those most wild and innovative parts of ourselves.

(Neptune qnx Juno, Mars qnx SN, Sun sq Uranus)

The table’s all set for a Happy Birthday. ‘Open Door on a Garden’ By Konstantin Somov 1934 {{PD}}

For those born with the Sun at 06 Leo. Check your natal chart for the correct Sun degree (you may want to read both the degree number and the one that follows, if you have minutes on your Sun position–together these offer a more complete picture of your year ahead). Dear Leo, today, right through the solar year to your next birthday, may feel like one great big test of your power and status–and it is. You need to know where you stand, and so to rid yourself of illusions concerning where you’re going. What you think you’re in line for may not be yours at all–and that’s the most important thing you can discover right now. That will then help you see and appreciate some of your more unique and original qualities and abilities, and perhaps in incorporating these into the everyday psyche you open the door to some opportunities only you could take advantage of. Played well, you’ll reach your next birthday facing some exciting choices that hold potential to take you farther than you ever anticipated. Now that sounds fun, doesn’t it? Good luck!

Today’s word image is something from a dream I had last night: someone was trying to persuade me to leave behind a big box of books that I wanted to take with me. Pretty obviously, books to me are knowledge, other worlds, potentials, all to be explored, and as a symbol we might ask ourselves, who’s trying to persuade us not to know, discover, or explore something, specifically because we would be equipped in a way they don’t want us to be? Just something to ponder, in case someone is asking you to ‘remain ignorant’ on some level.

13 July 2019 One Modest Perfection

‘Two Young Girls With a Butterfly’ By Harold Harvey 1929 {{PD}}

We have one modest perfection today, as Venus semi-squares Sedna. I’m imagining it as a gentle nudge, a sweet something that causes just the slightest internal discord as instincts and what we ‘know but don’t know’ stirs. The question is, is that a course correction, a warning, or an invitation into a new experiential world (Sedna in Taurus)? Your response will likely fall along the lines of what you care about, or what you are responsible to care for (Venus in Cancer); with any luck you glean new insights, or new emotional depth, in relationships or investments (especially of time, energy, caring).

The table’s all set for a Happy Birthday. ‘Open Door on a Garden’ By Konstantin Somov 1934 {{PD}}

For those born with the Sun at 21 Cancer. Check your natal chart for the correct Sun degree (you may want to read both the degree number and the one that follows, if you have minutes on your Sun position–together these offer a more complete picture of your year ahead). What an exciting time you may have this solar year, through to your next birthday, Cancer! You know, of course, that excitement comes in many forms, from positively transformative and transporting to the whole thing burning down to ashes. It’s up to you to create the changes you want to see in your support systems, to the rules you follow, to what may be holding you back or holding you up, and you’re required to make these choices, because if you don’t, the world is going to make them for you–and that may not always be desirable. Taking the initiative, and so shaping the direction energies take, is key. Use that flow to go after what you want–or to at least set up circumstances so that they enhance your chances at ambition fulfillment in future. Good luck!

Today’s word image is: a dream, where a man sees himself choking another person with a car’s fan belt. Are your enthusiasms (what you’re a ‘fan’ of) curtailing the freedom or energy or enjoyment of someone else? Or is someone else keeping you from ‘breathing free’ with their incursions on your time, energy, or attention?

Something sweet awaits, in those less traveled places. ‘Sugar Cubes’ By Dietmar Rabich CC BY-SA 4.0

Today it definitely benefits us to look for reward in those areas that enrage us, or where we’ve been ignoring or denying realities. It’s as if in attending to these matters we earn something of worth, the love of someone, something we can spend or treasure, an asset or a relationship we didn’t have before. It’s a little bit of ‘See? Don’t be afraid to deal with these things!’ What we gain also helps attune us to our own instincts and makes us aware of our blind spots–which in turn makes us better able to operate, and better able to know where we need assistance.

(Venus trine Black Moon Lilith and nov Sedna, Sun opp Saturn, and conj and parallel NN–this latter bit is your hint that we’ve just had an eclipse)

The table’s all set for a Happy Birthday. ‘Open Door on a Garden’ By Konstantin Somov 1934 {{PD}}

For those born with the Sun at 17 Cancer. Check your natal chart for the correct Sun degree (you may want to read both the degree number and the one that follows, if you have minutes on your Sun position–together these offer a more complete picture of your year ahead). This solar year, dear Cancer, your imagination flows freely, and can be channeled into the reality picture almost without effort. This can be great, if you control the creative urge, or disastrous, if you let the unconscious, and especially the unconscious fears, drive the ship. Take advantage of those things you’ve learned from in the past, stay grounded and make sure that at least for this year you have a comfortable environment from which to operate and in which you can recover from life’s ups and downs, and worry later about sorting out relationship feelings. There may be a concerted effort on the part of some to convince you that you are responsible for their feelings–let me assure you, you are not. Good luck!

Today’s word image isn’t a word image, exactly, but a movie I just saw, ‘Midsommar’. Reactions to this film will be as varied as there are human beings; let’s just say I walked out of the theater approving of what I’d just seen. Nothing in it was as obvious, or as unexpected, simultaneously, as I anticipated, and yet nothing went quite as I thought it would.

We might want to consider the role of Ceres, Earth Mother, as she stations direct at 00 Sagittarius. Sometimes we shy away from Nature’s realities, from the facts we need to know, necessary components to a clear-eyed view of the world and our role in it; or perhaps we’re looking at things as cultural (Sag) rather than innately human nature (Ceres). In any event, she’s going to be telling us some hard truths about the world we live in, and we’d do best to listen, the dangers of global warming, of ignoring Nature, among them.

What might it all signal?
