Judging by the bounty on the table, she probably weighed her options very carefully. Cranach 1532 {{PD-Art}}

We start the evening of the 5th when at 8 PM PDT the Moon opposes Jupiter; will it be a face-off with society (which may take place in no bigger an arena than your living room?) or a desire to withdraw from worldly pursuits that’s really just symptomatic of resentment that we’ve not yet received our due reward (Jupiter in Taurus)? Consider that we may be spoiling for a fight  just to make some contact–not a productive approach.

1 AM PDT of the 6th the Moon squares Vesta; this essentially draws a T from the moment of contact with Venus ( a square at 10 PM PDT of the 5th), and tells us that we are in danger of trashing what we care most about–don’t! Then the Moon (3 AM) squares the Sun; from the moment of Venus contact creates an energy-filled T square, with Venus/ Sun in one direction, Vesta/ Earth in the other, with the Moon the arm. This gives us a large window where the material situation involving those things we feel are sacrosanct come up against the true cost revealed–and our emotions are torn; do we keep those things we feel are important in our lives and ignore the cost, or do we lighten the load, letting go even though these material factors are important to us, and thereby possibly gain in finances or even love? There’s no right answer, just the answer that’s right for you.

Noonish on the 7th the Sagittarius Moon quincunxes Mars in the Moon’s own sign of Cancer and sets off a Finger of God with an approaching sextile (that completes the base) to Pallas at 3 Aquarius 42. We are required to link the emotional outlook to expression of practical/ artisanal skills or to what’s wise–when we do we are empowered to act. If we act without due attention to what wisdom requires the feelings to register and modify for, we will see a lot of passive-aggressive (or aggressive-passive, as a friend likes to say!) fallout. If chaos or upset ensues in this aspect window, this is the problem: we’ll be seeing the result of a lack of respect for what’s wise/ smart, with the difficulty caused by those who would indulge themselves. Take note.

The Essence for 12 July 2011: Ouroboros

Finger of God, Moon in Sagittarius, My Daily Astrology Diary, The Astro Essence

The Ouroboros, from an ancient Greek text {{PD}} via Wikimedia Commons

1:30 PM PDT the Moon quincunxes the Sun–it’s a moment of adjustment, where we see that the emotions are in some way misaligned with our direction and purpose. This aspect to the Sun initiates a Finger of God with Moon as apex and a base of Sun sextile Sedna. Even as we are discerning differences between our emotional reactions and our direction, we become caught up in a desire to fully realize the emotions (and perhaps fully access the intuition). We feel we need our Lunar energies as a guide–but we are in some fundamental way prevented from complete understanding–and this likely comes in the form of the matters of whatever is drawing our attention at this time (likely where the transiting Sun is). It may feel that the current concerns are overwhelming; the real problem, however, is that we are trying to apply the wrong measure (the emotions) to the current problems–we must solve the problems first, in order to understand how we’re feeling about things, and that’s just not to be, as things are obscured (by Sedna). So, we are set on a course that is like the ancient Ouroboros, the snake that is perpetually eating its own tail; where does one difficulty begin, and the others end? The energies misdirect us like a clever magician. Better to take a stance of indifference and non-interference; it’s in inaction that we make the right move.

The Essence for 11 July 2011: No Void for You!

10 Sunday Jul 2011

See? There's no Void here! Courtesy of NASA

I thought it was important to get this out a little early, especially for the use of our friends in Europe (extra points if you get the reference inherent in the title 🙂 ).

1 AM PDT of the 11th the Moon trines Ceres, both at 29 degrees, making it very easy to go over the edge in reaction to (or in acting out our own) authority; or we may overstep personal bounds with someone we feel responsible for. It’s stressful and easy to over-do, even when we’re only trying to work out where we stop and others begin. An approach that de-emphasizes emotion is best.

This is certainly extraordinary: as Ceres will be at 29 Pisces 59, and a Void begins in the moment the other body pulls out of aspect, there really is no Void, with the Moon moving directly from contact with Ceres into her new home in Sagittarius. What it may do is make for a huge amount of stress; Voids to some extent allow us to de-focus, to drift a bit, even if we aren’t aware of it. They’re like sleep in a way, a chance to re-new the psyche, to sense without goals, to let go, just a little, without risk. So, we may find ourselves carrying over stresses; the sense may be that they are accumulating, and that could make us feel beleagured and a little panicked, as the feeling of being overwhelmed (or very near it) is likely.

The main thing to do in handling this sense of stress is to both realize that it’s more than anything else an emotional sensation carried over into territory where it doesn’t belong (and so is not valid and should be discarded), and that it’s useful in pointing out what we’re worried about, deep inside, and now that the Lunar influence has entered Sag, we can do something about this upset. Still, be cautious in the actions you choose (especially if others are involved–Saturn in Libra can make us want to set boundaries and lay down the law to others, as can Ceres, which will still be in that most stressful minute of that most stressful degree!) and keep the ‘Big Picture’ in mind.

The ‘switch’ into Sagittarius for the Moon occurs at 2:46 AM Pacific Daylight Time.

The Essence of the Lunar Eclipse, 15 June 2011: The Power of Nature

Lunar Eclipse, Moon in Sagittarius, My Daily Astrology Diary, The Astro Essence

With this eclipse we will experience the pre-verbal power of our own nature. Fearnley c.1830 {{PD-Art}}

1:13 PM PDT of the 15th is the Lunar eclipse at 24 Sagittarius 23, with the Sun/ Earth-Moon axis conjunct the Nodal axis (Earth and Moon conjunct the North Node) and a T-square formed to the asteroid Ceres (at 26 Pisces 17), symbol of Mother Nature, of natural power and authority, of agriculture and growing things, of negotiation, and of mothering/ nurturing, and Mars is quincunx the Full Moon/ Earth conjunction, as is the asteroid Sedna, indicator of our ‘blind spot.’

The aspect picture is unusual in that we have a culmination that essentially challenges us to push forward with even more,exceptional energy that is rife with a sense of authority (Ceres), that requires us to modify our approach, actions, and efforts (the Mars quincunx), that attempts to nurture what’s important (Ceres), but that is fundamentally lacking in consciousness of the Self (the Sedna effect on Moon–the unconscious and the feelings–and the Sun–the identity)–a very tough aspect picture indeed. So, we will feel the push and pressure to put ourselves forward, to claim authority, to enact our Will, and yet will be without something so vital that it is literally the first differentiation we make as living beings; we experience our first Self-consciousness, our initial sense of ‘I,’ when we realize that Mommy/the  maternal figure is actually a separate Being from ourselves–and it is the moment before this realization that we will re-experience with this Full Moon eclipse.

This means the eclipse opens for us a kind of view into our primordial consciousness–and because this is pre-verbal, essentially experienced through feeling and sensation, the most likely funnel will be the Ceres placement, as it sits in the Pisces abiogenesis. Through our relationship to Mother Nature (so, through our senses, perceptions, and bodies, as well as interaction with the natural world), through a circumstance of negotiation (likely where emotions, rather than reasoning, should drive the discussion), through the act of nurturing or mothering or being mothered, or through dealing with our own or another’s given authority (the kind that a parent has over a child, for instance), we will meet the eclipse essence. The urge to affect the life direction (the Nodal contact) melds with the Will, the ‘I am,’ and the basic desire nature (“I want!”) and yet consciousness of the Self is not apparent–and we will be carried on a tide of feeling, sensation, and perception just as we were in early infancy!

That does not mean our responses and perceptions will be immature; rather, they will be fully felt in a way that leaves no room for verbally-framed thought– the desire to act, driven by feeling but lacking a root in a strong identity or thought-consciousness, will be the fundamental energy available.

The energy twilight might feel like this. Rousseau {{PD-Art}}

Void begins at 10:44 AM PDT; for West Coasters, it’s another day spent in the energy twilight. The Moon doesn’t enter Sagittarius until 7:38 PM PDT. The Moon squares Neptune and we’re off to the races. After what for many will be, if not a hard day, then a wearing one, we must deal with delusion, fantasy, deception, and a foggy feeling that things are out-of-control. Resentment and frustration might be the result, as we are tired of going at things straight-on and finding them slippery and illegible–but that’s where we can find our aid, if we take an almost Zen approach here things can go very well. Focus on ideals, accept how nebulous things are at the moment, and embrace the playful, the imaginative, and the creative as a way to rise above any frustration.

Ceres, Moon in Sagittarius, My Daily Astrology Diary, The Astro Essence

'Mother and Child' by Corke-Photo from 1912 RPS Exhibition

Through the 18th the Moon makes a handful of sextiles, nothing of real influence. It isn’t until 6 PM Pacific that the Moon makes significant contact, a square to Ceres; this, though, may be monumental. The emotions and/ or intuition are faced with a very strong authority, perhaps maternal, perhaps something resulting from previous negotiations, or maybe Mother Nature Herself. It seems our emotional needs are at odds with something that is essentially a fact of life (or at least, a fact of our lives!) This may be something of a shock; the Ceres energy in this equation is Piscean, and so seems to be everywhere and contain everything–we can end up feeling we’ve been left out of the Collective (which of course can’t happen–but these are feelings!) We need to be very clear about the rights of this Ceres-figure–is the disputed territory actually Hers to control, or is She overstepping Her bounds? Determine this and you’ll know how to behave in this situation.

Even though they're sitting near one another, there's something solitary and peaceful about these artists W. Homer 'Artists Sketching in the White Mountains' 1868 {{PD-Art}}

Just prior to 9:30 AM PDT the Sag Moon trines Jupiter in Aries; it’s a day for broadcasting and reaching out across the social scene, and this is so despite Merc still (seems like forever!) in retrograde. This is because it’s all about getting the message out, and we are, perhaps oddly, unconcerned with whether we communicate clearly; as such it’s an almost pure energy of expression–and thus a little chaotic. Our attention is on expansion, especially in creative arenas, and we are eager (burning, we might say!) to show who we are–but we are fundamentally at least a little confused on the identity front (Sun sextile Neptune). What we need to know is that this is an influence, not something actually springing from within us–and we need to remember this when we start to feel inadequate or irritated that we are not able to pull ourselves together in quite the way we hope to–it’s not us, it’s the Universe!

I liked this painting because the light is so bright and orange, the fire seems wild and out of control--even though it isn't. Bierstadt 1863 'The Oregon Trail'

8 PM Pacific sees the Moon sextile Saturn, quickly followed by the Moon sextile h.Zeus, trine Mercury, then trine Mars. We enter this period thinking we can hold back, control our actions, and keep to the status quo–wrong! Ambition and desire speak up (likely through aesthetics or relationships) and then we tell everything we know (or at least everything we thought we’d keep to ourselves), and it ends up lighting a different kind of fire under us: one that is fueled by a synchronization of the emotions, the intuition, and the action urge. Despite the way we may put our foot in it, it may still be a good time to act–as long as we are truly clear about what we want, and what the situation is–and unfortunately this is nearly impossible with the retrograde of Merc still hanging on. It’s a shame to waste the energy, though, so most of us may decide to act now and ask questions (or clean up the unintended consequences) later :)

The Essence for 19 April 2011: Unusual Dreams

'Dante's Dream at the Time of the Death of Beatrice' Rossetti 1871 {{PD-Art}}

Just before 2 PM PDT the Moon quincunxes the South Node, either making us wax nostalgic, or uncomfortable with things or people from the past. Either enjoy, or breathe through it–no need to respond. By 8:30 the Moon trines Venus–ah! a short period of harmony and peace (and maybe a little money or love!) 10 PM-ish Pacific the Moon quincunxes the Sun, now in the 29th degree of Aries. Tension, a sudden urge to act or to resolve a situation, may appear–and just so, it may have no resolution. As the Moon pulls away (11:34 PM PDT) the Void begins, with the Moon entering Sagittarius, 11:49 PM Pacific. The immediate square to Neptune may give unusual dreams, where we confront our illusions, the future, or our Muses–and though likely stressful, we gain invaluable knowledge as a result.

The Essence for 24 March 2011: Emotional Accounting 101

12:30 PM PDT and the Moon trines Jupiter and sextiles h.Zeus. This opens the emotions to the social sphere, and the ambitions and desires piggy-back right along with them. For some this will be a tremendous boost of opportunity, as others see and respond to the passion of the goals and objectives with which they’re presented, while for some it may make for some uncomfortable moments (for the observers) of naked ambition and Self-reference. Motives have a lot to do with how this will come across to others–just keep that in mind as you offer up pie charts illustrating exactly what you’d like for Christmas (theoretically speaking).

Just after 9 PM Pacific, the Moon squares Juno; empowerment options seem at odds with our emotional needs–with Moon in Sag we want to reach out, but Juno in Virgo says, ‘Follow the rules to the letter, keep accounts, and keep careful track of where your power is going.’ It’s as if this Juno believes that fiery, enthusiastic contact, where we open our arms and travel far and wide, embracing all, is a recipe for giving our power away. Don’t accept this stance automatically, but do take a look and see if a too open-handed approach isn’t bankrupting you or draining you, especially emotionally.
