I heard someone the other day refer to current times as a “crucible moment”, and immediately thought of all the big gun combinations we’ve been subjected to, the dance of Saturn-Pluto-Jupiter, Uranus in Taurus bringing sudden shifts in the material realm and in personal assets and personal responsibilities, Neptune in his own sign manufacturing a fog so thick it’s making it hard to navigate, hard to trust others and, it’s so hard to see, we don’t really trust ourselves, either. Now add an eclipse in Sagittarius that threatens the very facts that underpin our reality, threatens to wipe out accumulated knowledge or our faith, and even threatens to make us dismiss our shared humanity by making us think 1) people are animals (Sagittarius, where the Lunar eclipse will land, happens to be the sign of large animals), 2) animals are part of Nature, and 3) Nature is against us (Covid-19, an assault by a natural invisible, Mars–assault–at the midpoint of Ceres–Nature–and Neptune–toxins, poisons, infectious diseases), and so 4) others must be against us, too (the death of George Floyd, among many others, is entirely too real an example of the extension of this fear to the point others are seen as not human; think also of the gassing of peaceful protesters so that the President could have a photo op, treating them as less than). The thing is, bad as the disparate parts are, they don’t lead, one to the other; that’s a fallacy. Our minds want to connect the dots, but the dots don’t exist in relation to each other, in spite of the way a susceptible consciousness might see them as related.

A crucible is a vessel that allows something to be subjected to high temperatures. Let something burn in a crucible too long, it becomes ash or evaporates; you lose or render useless the contents if you subject it to high temps with no end point. And we as human Souls may feel as if we’ve been in a crucible for much much too long, a heated environment of fear and legitimate threat from many sources that makes it difficult to grasp the facts, and to think of others as truly human. This eclipse may help.

Saturn is the container, analogous to our bodies and our realities, in both instances, something that surrounds the spirit, that contains us. Pluto is the process, in this case a transformation through a journey to hell and back, one that long-term breaks down all that has made us feel secure (Capricorn). Jupiter is both the indisputable facts, and the social element. These sit within a 7 degree span in Capricorn, with Saturn in Aquarius but retrograde and slated to re-enter the sign of the Sea Goat. Add to this Pallas, symbol of wisdom, practicality, useful skills, at 29 tense degrees of Capricorn, and we see the stress that our intelligence is under (and this is magnified by Saturn suppressing the intellect in Cappy). The proximity of these bodies to one another may give us the impression that they’re working in concert, but they aren’t; we may even be prone to characterize them as having a kind of consciousness, as if they’re deliberately getting together and making chaos, aided by the Neptunian fog and Uranian erraticism. The reality is each body does its own thing, while we look for the connections and the reasons why, and come up empty (if we’re relatively rational) or clutching a handful of conspiracy theories (if we’re too Neptune susceptible). These energies collide but have no intent, make for some synergies that we may interpret as purposeful, and so are the background against which this Lunar eclipse forms.

The eclipse occurs at 12:12 PM PDT at 15 Sagittarius 34 of the 5th. It makes a close square to Mars, a trine to the Black Moon Lilith point, and opposes Venus which is still retro and moving away from her recent rendezvous with the Sun. Here’s our connection to those bigger, broader social energies: the eclipse is semi-square both Saturn and Pallas, and novile Jupiter. A Lunar eclipse is a Full Moon, with all the promise of conclusions, endings, and peaks that a FM carries, with the added eclipse propensity to sweep away, to cause a re-set, to re-align, to disturb, to upset the status quo.

The eclipse may trigger anger and aggression, and a big need to make ‘I Am’ statements (Mars square), but why? Because we easily funnel what we have been agreeing to ignore or deny into consciousness–it pesters us, won’t let us rest–along with all the rage over injustices we’ve tamped down (trine Black Moon Lilith). We’re feeling removed from caring about what we usually value, distant from a prevailing sense of Love and relationship (Venus opp and retro), and this sets the stage for personal anger looking for an outlet–and it finds it in the irritating and threatening circumstances surrounding the reality picture (Saturn) and a sense of outrage that what’s wise isn’t being done, and is now at a breaking point (29 degree Pallas). And who receives our anger? The larger social order (Jupiter)–but wait, it might not be all bad (the novile), because what we may see is expansion of the energy of the eclipse ruler, the facts and faith finally bringing some sense of justice, of right.

The Sabian for the eclipse is, ‘Sea Gulls Fly Around A Ship In Expectation Of Food’. The eclipse may spark anticipatory energy, the expectation of a better social order within a better world, shaped from all this pain and suffering and from the Love and wisdom we normally feel much more pure a connection to, that we naturally carry inside.

It’s our crucible moment only in the sense that we are at a point when we can take things from the heat, when we can use the contents of our experience to make something new, to forge something better, and offer this to the world. So, what have the months and years forged in you?

‘Dreamers ‘ By Albert Joseph Moore c1865 {{PD}}

The 16th is a Good Day To . . . listen. There’s an undertone to events that sneaks up on us, a dull roar that’s easy to dismiss as just background noise. It starts with a handful of contra-parallels, opposition-toned energy duos that enter the arena but don’t necessarily engage directly with each other: Our love for something or someone, our finances, or our relationships themselves are at odds with our own successful empowerment; the messages we receive or our own thinking fails to correctly understand the value (or lack of it) in what’s happening; and we’re likely to be surprised either by ourselves and our reactions or by what receives scrutiny or ‘the spotlight’–and there’s a chance that light will shine directly on something unusual, unique, radical, or original that we’ve done or are pursuing. Can make for a confusing atmosphere, the kind that shakes our confidence in our own identity or beliefs just enough to make us hesitate–and when we do, we should try the recommended listening, as an internal stillness and receptivity will offer (or make the way clear for) what we need to know.

This isn’t helped by the late afternoon Pacific time retrograde of Mercury in Pisces. It kicks in at 12 Pisces 53, with the first aspect it makes a semi-square to Saturn, and the first aspect made to it a square from the Moon in Sagittarius and then a sextile from Pallas and semi-sextile from Venus (over the first two days of the retro, with the order not being especially important). I see the way the retro period starts as a kind of harbinger of what to expect through the cycle; the ‘birth’ of the retrograde, and so its meaning. This time we have the retro occurring in Water, asking us to re-consider how we feel, with that examination of feelings showing us what values and relationships are making the ‘hard edges’ and difficult circumstances in our world. We have the wisdom and practical orientation to address what we see; at the same time, a flood of emotion bolstered by the square from the Moon in Sag, which we might describe as ‘difficult knowledge’, compels us to ‘dream backward’, that is, to assess the current reality, especially the emotional reality, by reviewing what previous dreams and ideals were chosen, which discarded, and how this built things as they are now. Exercise the imagination in the first half of the cycle, and in the latter half, exorcise it, flushing out delusions, misinterpretations, and untenable fantasies that are standing in the way of what you really want.

A Good Day To . . . is based on the aspects perfecting on each day, Pacific time.

We’re finally moving, so I won’t be able to make daily posts as I won’t have access to my computer, but I’ll do my best to pop in when I can. Once we’re settled I’ll resume some sort of regular schedule–’til then, I’ll miss you all!

astrology, Good Day To . . ., Moon in Sagittarius, New Moon, Sabian Symbols, The Lunar Essence

‘Noc gwiaździsta’ (Starry Night) By Józef Marian Chełmoński 1888 {{PD}}

The New Moon falls at 4 Sagittarius 02 at 7:04 AM PST of the 26th, with both bodies approaching conjunction to asteroid Pallas and trining Chiron. The Lunar event makes a pair of semi-sextiles which place the Moon at the rough midpoint of Mars in Scorpio and Ceres in Capricorn (and so makes Earth the apex of a Finger of God), and quincunxes Uranus. The New Moon also semi-squares the midpoint of transiting Saturn-Pluto, possibly noteworthy as a harbinger of the conjunction of these two in January that we’re all anticipating–and it semi-squares asteroid Zeus, placing the New Moon at the rough midpoint of Saturn-Pluto square Zeus. All these contacts, even the minor and modest ones, are worth exploring, as sometimes meaning is found in the subtlety of things, the interrelationships drawing associations we might otherwise have missed.

What are we looking at here? A smart, wise, or practical new beginning that requires we adjust to learning or experiencing the unexpected or unanticipated, the modern or the revelatory, and that we do so in order to preserve our autonomy, our place with or independent from the group, and/ or the personal power we’ve already established. It heals, or calls on our most unique skills, or both, and may hint at the emotional impact of upcoming changes to the reality picture, especially in terms of potential ambition or desire fulfillment, or its denial.

The New Moon brings an instance of learning something, or experiencing something, likely something we’ve been struggling to ignore or deny or not be consumed with rage by, with actions or choices stirred by events or by the emotional revelation that comes, and these address the scope of our current ability to wield power and affect our environment. We will develop a new attitude, a new philosophy, based on what occurs. Realization will be the big internal change, while we’ll also see material changes that signal the structure of (or structure behind) the ‘new’ power dynamic.

The Sabian for the New Moon is, ‘An Old Owl Sits Alone On The Branch Of A Large Tree’. We have Athena’s symbol, the owl, in the image and the namesake asteroid conjoined the New Moon event–who says there isn’t a pattern to all this? The mention of the fact that the owl is alone seems superfluous, as owls are generally solitary creatures, and big sturdy trees their domain. I’m thinking that in this instance the symbol simply alerts us to the wisdom that the Lunar event will contain; it may be so obvious, so much a normal-seeming part of the landscape, that we could miss the smart message it offers, should we be expecting something splashier or more jarring. Characterization of the owl as “old” only reinforces the sense that this is something already around, that we are used to, and so may overlook, and as well, also reinforces the notion that there will be something wise, that is, that comes of experience, for us to take away from the event.

17 June 2019 Full Moon in Sagittarius: Denouement

‘The Banquet of the Officers of the St George Militia Company in 1627’ By Frans Hals {{PD}}

The Full Moon, at 25 Sagittarius 53, occurs at 1:30 AM PDT, and is apex to a Finger of God with base of Juno-Sedna–which sextile naturally catches the Sun, currently parallel to Mercury, at its midpoint. The only other viable contact is the Full Moon in (very) wide conjunction with Jupiter, its ruler. A Full Moon in Sagittarius brings a sense of ending, completion, or denouement, but one filled with optimism, that possibly presents new opportunities, and perhaps one that reveals needed knowledge, information, or ‘facts’, and these may either offer new directions to the individual or show precisely why the situation is viable no more.

Every Full Moon is a Moon-Earth conjunction, and this points up the way there is typically an emotional conclusion and a material one. Either we have a feeling reaction to what ends, or our feelings bring about the end of some physical situation, but in any case, there is both an internal experience and an external one, though certainly, the impact for one or the other varies with the individual. Some will feel the event is solely internal, others only external, but it benefits us to look at circumstances and try to draw the thread that connects our emotional state (of which we might not automatically be aware) and what’s happening, especially what’s coming to a close, around us physically.

The Finger suggests that what concludes arose from stress, in the clash between our status or a role that empowers us or where we can express ourselves, and our own instincts and our inability to follow them. Somehow our responsibilities, especially if we feel a certain amount of resentment or anger surrounding them, may be the foundation for this; our denial of those instincts, of our own needs or wants, is too powerful at this point to be dismissed–and so the events of the Full Moon appear, as the psyche manifests before us, possibly in exaggerated but also in informative ways.

We need to exercise caution: we may be acting from our ‘blind spot’, from some area or on some issue that we believe we understand or have dominion over, though in reality we don’t. We might also be mustering our instincts out of hurt or vengeance–remember, Juno didn’t take that disrespect dished out to her lying down.

The Sabian symbol for the Full Moon is, ‘A Flag Bearer In A Battle‘. The flag bearer is essentially a non-combatant, even though this individual risks just as much as anyone else out on the battle field. We may feel that we are simply a standard bearer, that we are ‘letting everyone know’, and so not really involved in the battle–and this tells us that’s a false perception, likely offering us a false sense of safety. And maybe that’s what we learn with the Full Moon events: that we can’t hold ourselves separate from the tumult around us.

The purpose of a flag bearer in battle is to help orient the soldiers to where their forces are gathered, and to how far forward, or how much in retreat, they are at any one time. So, for some of us this Sagittarius Full Moon may be a marker of sorts, one that tells us how much progress in ‘the fight’ we’ve actually made.

Dominique Lang ‘Matin d’hiver’ 1916 {{PD}}

The Sun, always vital in a Full Moon scenario (how else would the Moon shine?) has the Sabian, ‘Frost-Covered Trees Against Winter Skies‘. This suggests to me that Full Moon events were either set in motion last winter, or if we look carefully, we will see their origins there. At the time we may have had the impression that related matters (maybe even our feelings) were ‘frozen’–now we know they’re not.

No matter what happens at this point, we learn something, facts or how we feel–that’s the beauty of Moon in Sagittarius.

For those born with the Sun at 26 Gemini. Check your natal chart for the correct Sun degree (you may want to read both the degree number and the one that follows, if you have minutes on your Sun position–together these offer a more complete picture of your year ahead). This solar year for you, dear Gemini, may bring some a number of endings, especially emotional ones, and it may ask you to find a role in life that both empowers you and allows you to show and make use of your vibrant inner life. That’s a tall order, when most of us are just trying to make a living, but you have the capacity this year, through to your next birthday, to create/ find the perfect spot for you. As a natural consequence, this will change many things in your life, but I’m guessing you’re more than ready to show more of who you are, even as you heal your sense of yourself as a unique and interesting individual. Good luck!

New Moon in Sagittarius 6 December 2018 What Will You Learn?

By Andrew McMillan – http://www.public-domain-image.com/new-moon-at-sunset.jpg, {{PD}}

The New Moon occurs at 11:20 PM Pacific Standard time of the 6th at 15 Sagittarius 07. This New Moon falls square to the close conjunction of Mars and Neptune in Pisces, which adds an active ‘punch’ to discovered facts, new journeys, new beliefs, new horizons, fresh starts, to knowledge exchanged and the exotic or foreign revealed. The NM beginning may arise from an action, choice, or assertion that carries ideals, creativity, or delusion, or may be the cause of such; in either instance, the event of the New Moon brings conflict or tension to a head: action or a choice based on a dream (Mars-Neptune), for example, could bring upset for what facts it uncovers or beliefs it reveals (Sagittarius).

By Johannes Hevelius 1689 {{PD}}

The New Moon also sextiles both Black Moon Lilith and Pallas, though it doesn’t fall at their midpoint, suggesting the interactions with the NM are unrelated to each other. The New Moon carries the aura of wisdom or practicality, or may call on you to use skills, and its new starts may also be driven by material that’s been denied, that’s enraging, or that’s perceived as unjust–and though we each may respond to both sextiles, my sense is one or the other sextile will predominate for the individual. Too, if you have a natal placement at 13-15 Taurus your natal body is apex to a Finger of God with NM and Pallas as its base, steering you in the direction of a smart beginning or revelation that inspires expression of the natal energy–or if you have a natal placement at 13-15 Cancer, you have apex to another Finger with base of NM and Black Moon Lilith, which points to the New Moon stirring up or making undeniable what’s been shunted aside until now, forcing you to deal with the situation using the natal energy.

We also have a loose configuration, a Fist of God, with base of Uranus square the North Node, apex the New Moon. Here the individual clashes with her or his own life direction, possibly rebelling from a long-planned route. Is this a good rebellion, freeing the individual from unfair restraints? Or is it a rebellion led by the insistence on seeing the Self as independent, or as ‘special’, trying to prove uniqueness via erraticism or an uncooperative attitude? This likely plays in tune with the Merc direction, described below.

The New Moon also rests at the (very rough) midpoint of the Venus-Vesta square, suggesting that the NM event may carry the essence of the clash between highest values and wants. With Venus in Scorpio and Vesta in Aquarius, the primal nature of both what’s revered and what’s desired may be displaced digging for a ‘Truth’ that may or may not differ from the surface, and in intellectualizing what’s better felt through New Moon experience.

All the aspects suggest at least some effort (the sextiles), or friction (all the rest of the aspects) occurs, and that may be the place to focus: on the ways in which we are causing or using the available energy. Don’t think of it as energy going out, so much as an undifferentiated flow, ebbing and surging all at once, so that we are receptive (Lunar energy) as much as we are active and choosing (square to Mars, all hard aspects).

The Sabian symbol for the New Moon is, ‘Sea Gulls Fly Around A Ship In Expectation Of Food’. The birds are looking for sustenance, but what does the presence of sea gulls say to the sailors? That they are near land. This is an image of promise, beyond the survival needs, to arrival at a ‘new destination’. This suggests that the land we find ourselves in post-New Moon will be solid, whether it’s familiar or unexplored, verdant and populated or a deserted wasteland, welcoming or forbidding.

Mercury also goes direct today, ready to perfect a Water Grand Trine with Chiron and the North Node. That suggests that wounds and/ or the opportunity to employ skills figure strongly in thinking, and so in shaping the life direction. We find emotional balance in this regard, probably surrounding the mentality finding a ‘groove’ and falling into it. Sometimes a subdued rhythm to life is the most desirable thing imaginable.

Outlook for the 5th is here–scroll down for previous days. Have a wonderful New Moon, and please consider making a book purchase, rating my books on Goodreads, or rating my astrology on Facebook–thank you for your participation and feedback–it’s all very much appreciated!

Full Moon in Sagittarius May 2018 ‘Torn Veil’

Vilhelm Hammershoi – ‘Interieur mit Rueckenansicht einer Frau’ – 1903-1904 {{PD}}

The Full Moon occurs on the 29th at 7:20 AM Pacific time at 8 Sagittarius 10, falling trine to the transiting North Node and sextile the South one–and that makes a Mystic Rectangle with the Sun-Earth-Moon axis. Keeping our 2+ or – degree (or less for minor contacts) orb, we also see the FM semi-sextile Saturn and semi-square Black Moon Lilith–otherwise, this event is all on its lonesome. The interesting point is that the only ‘solid’ aspect the Full Moon makes is to Saturn, and that’s a minor interaction–all else is with calculated points, intangibles made up of energy, mathematical points derived from the movement of other solid bodies, giving the points a ‘once removed’ quality. That suggests that this Moon is a kind of ‘shadow Moon’, one that exerts a more subtle, nuanced, or ephemeral effect than the usual Lunar event–and those are cast with reflective light as it is, emphasizing that these connections and the influences they represent are probably more tenuous, even insidious, and more difficult to discern, than we realize.

At the same time, even as the effects seem to creep up on us, we can look to the natal House where Saturn is currently transiting, and/ or the House it rules (these will in most systems be one and the same, or sometimes the next House to the one it’s currently transiting, possible with Placidus, for instance, since Saturn’s in its own sign) for matters where the Full Moon may show through material issues. It’s like the fabric of the unseen world, the veil that separates material from non-material, is torn right where Saturn is, letting what we’re intuiting, sensing, or feeling spill through to take physical form.

What spills through with a Full Moon in Sagittarius is knowledge–and if not delivering the facts, it may deliver an event that bolsters, defines, or alters our faith, or our outlook toward the foreign or the social–and any or all of these will present things that, factual or not, will read as facts in our world, will inform the landscape. It’s important to remember for any Lunar event that it’s likely to be an emotional one, aside from any physical occurrences, and doubly so as the FM contacts its own points of extremity (the Nodes), and well as the Earth’s energy counterpoint within its ellipsis, Black Moon Lilith. This suggests that what we learn will be charged with emotion, and possibly emotion that we have denied, repressed, or that is closely bonded to rage–and this all acts on the psyche, which orchestrates the material world around us, bringing a point of manifestation at or very near the Full Moon point (or potentially, though less likely, at some time through to the next New Moon).

The Sabian for the Full Moon is, ‘A Mother Leads Her Small Child Step By Step Up A Steep Stairway’. The conscious mind is the mother, leading the way, the small child those less-conscious impulses, and energies more closely connected to the primal Self. The stairway, of course, is life, learning, going both forward and ‘up’, to a higher understanding–just exactly what the contacts promise for this FM. The opposing Sun Sabian is, ‘A Quiver Filled With Arrows’. That is an image of pure potential–and what is knowledge but that with which we’re ‘armed’ in our daily life? Use what you know at this Full Moon, and be open to acquiring more information–it’s there to be had, and some of it will appear in material form, up to us to ‘handle’.

Over the years people have written me on occasion, wanting to know why I use such close orbs for New and Full Moon discussions, and why I don’t talk about other aspects in force at the time of these events. I keep the picture crisp and clear to aid understanding; I think we muddy the waters when we want to analyze aspects kitchen-sink style, talking about everything in hopes that we hit something. Though nothing manifests in a vacuum, so to speak, we have to be able to tell influences one from another–otherwise we run the risk of believing we’re attending to a matter, when we might be missing its source completely.

Have a lovely week!

17 December 2017 New Moon in Sagittarius: Sculpting Reality

‘Portrait of Anna Vaughan Hyatt’ 1915 By Marion Boyd Allen {{PD}}

The New Moon falls at 26 Sagittarius 31 at 10:30 PM Pacific time of the 17th, and it sits between a figurative rock and hard place, cradled by Saturn, the rock which is about to vacate Sag for the comfort of home turf Capricorn, and on the other side by ‘hard place’ Venus, over which the Moon has just ‘swept’. As the Moon and Sun are moving swiftly away from one body and the other will ‘fall away’ into a new sign (even as the Sun-Moon themselves soon enter that sign, the Sun set to meet Saturn there), the scenario suggests that the New Moon brings facts, beliefs, knowledge, or other outreach into the reality picture–it’s apparent what the situation truly is, and what it may cost or reward us with factors in–or, we already know the costs or rewards going in, and now find out the impact in real-world terms. That means that new starts come with a balance sheet, and the awareness that we must do something (Fire placement) in reaction to what we learn. Restraint and aesthetics and/ or relationships also factor in, and our eye remains on ‘the prize’ (possibly causing us to fix our gaze on the rear view mirror, rather than the road ahead), even if our goal doesn’t seem related to New Moon events.

The New Moon also squares Chiron, trines Pallas-Uranus, and quincunxes Sedna, suggesting some pain or triggering of old issues springs from NM events, or that the difficult circumstances presented require use of the Chirotic skills (those represented by the natal situation of your Chiron). What occurs is smart, at least in the sense that what happens is the most practical turn of events for the individual, with the potential for the wise move to be spurred by the group or by a ‘fresh’ understanding, provided by the New Moon. Expect some ‘sudden wisdom’, the revelation of which may provide the answer to (or reason for) the pain, and know that what occurs will require either a re-calibration of the instincts, or allow for a glimpse into one or more ‘blind spots’ from which we suffer.

The Sabian symbol for the New Moon is, ‘A Sculptor At His Work’. Aha! There’s that Saturn effect, applying knowledge and/ or working with reality in a talented way (and very possibly a Chirotic one, that is skilled or healing). We shape things as we want them to be, in part unconsciously, via the mechanism of our own instincts and values. Notice that it all funnels into a response to reality, one that may leave us better off than it found us, but that’s totally dependent on how firmly we accept that we are responsible, we are the creators.

Full Moon in Sagittarius + Forecast for the 9th: Mother Ceres Explains It All

By Alice Pike Barney – 1901 {{PD}}

On the 9th Jupiter stations direct in Libra, at the midpoint of a Fire trine from Vesta to Black Moon Lilith. A Jupiter in Libra turnaround signals a turnaround of mind, maybe even a retraction of or reversal of ‘the facts’; relative to the other body and point (for we must remember, Black Moon Lilith is a calculated point, a not-thing that we nevertheless feel and respond to), this could suggest a shift in attitude involving what we honor and what we’ve denied or avoided. We could quite suddenly see the opportunity that comes from a more optimistic viewpoint or in pursuing positive, rather than angry or punitive, interactions with those who may have angered us. Potentially, the facts may not just change our minds, but change our values, what we dedicate our time, energy, and attention to. This could be a much more momentous change than the average planetary direction, at least as it may lay the foundation for much larger or more sweeping changes in our fundamental beliefs and way of thinking–and this may come in the wake of Full Moon events.

Other indicators suggest we may come to Jupiterian change (shifts in belief, or the gaining of optimism or seeing opportunity) through hurt, and may resist reformation, seeing it as ‘not us’–but this would be short-sighted, particularly in terms of how this may prompt profitable action–so willingly go with it, if you can (Chiron sesq Vesta, Venus sxt Mars, Sun qnx Pluto)

Full Moon occurs at 6:10 AM PDT at 18 Sagittarius 53. The Full Moon sits midway between retro Saturn and Black Moon Lilith; it also semi-sextiles Pluto (which minor aspect we’re counting because they are only three minutes off exact), opposes Ceres (placing the asteroid in a separating conjunction to the Sun), sextiles Zeus, and sesquiquadrates Venus in her own sign of Taurus. A Full Moon, as we know, is an event of culmination, an end to a sequence or situation, and in Sagittarius it is often an event that offers knowledge, in some form–and of course with endings, we can often see the seeds of new beginnings, just by knowing in what area of life we are experiencing a conclusion; something must take its place, as Mother Ceres abhors a vacuum. Look for the arena of change in the natal House where the FM falls, with likely secondary locations matters of the House opposing the FM, the House ruled by the Moon, and if you have natal placements or points at roughly 3 degrees Scorpio, that placement will be the apex of a Finger of God involving Mars and Venus, implying that actions taken in Love or Money will bring a manifestation of the apex energy–and if you have a natal placement or point at 3 Leo, you are looking at a Fist involving Venus, apex the Full Moon, which may imply difficulties in Love or Money, relative to the natal energy, coming to a head at the FM.

We already know from other indicators, including the Jupiter direction, that things, especially our beliefs, are prone to change at this time; the FM suggests that this change is a natural one, no matter how unnatural it may at first seem. It’s really a manifestation of what we have learned, or the connections we have made, in pursuit of our ambitions and desires, and the result will at least in part be one that requires adjustment to the material/ asset situation and/ or to the way relationships affect reward or remuneration, or even what is shared or can be counted on. Somehow the material situation changes, and whether this comes as a result of other change, or brings about other change, we come out the other side seeing things quite a bit differently than we have. We become aware of what we’ve hidden from ourselves, ignored or denied, or we see our own anger, that may have been hidden from our conscious mind, and this, more than anything else, may be the root of the changes we see.

Though not directly part of the FM picture, there’s a Finger of God with base of Vesta-Zeus, apex Neptune, that may point to difficulties and distractions that will function to draw our conscious energy away from the Full Moon scenario–and this may be directly related to the Jupiter direction as it calls up our ideals and creative energies as they play out through both values and ambitions. The imagination may be alight with what we desire–the real question may be, Is this in line with our values? So do we really want it, or not? Inevitably, this may be a result of, or spring from, the Full Moon events, and has the potential when combined with those energies of propelling a significant creative event forward in a big way.

The Sabian for the Full Moon is, ‘Pelicans Menaced By The Behavior And Refuse Of Men Seek Safer Areas For Bringing Up Their Young’. This echoes the opposition to the Full Moon of the asteroid Ceres, with the Sun pulling away from their union suggesting both the history of habitat destruction and between species animosities of the past and the only solution Nature may have, to get away from polluting and destructive humans. In the context of the Full Moon, it may suggest that real-world circumstances (Saturn) and the irritation they cause (Black Moon Lilith) may propel events forward–and in the process, affect the asset picture and the beliefs.

We also look at the Sabian for the Sun for a Full Moon, as it is the source of the light which creates the phenomenon in the first place: ‘A Large Archaic Volume Reveals A Traditional Wisdom’. This promises certain Truths will become obvious, certain wisdom shown in the form of previous experience or knowledge (the ‘Tradition’ of the symbol–Saturn in Sagittarius=real-world knowledge + Ceres in Gemini=thinking about what’s natural). This revelation/ realization may be the spark that starts the entire change of the Full Moon, shifting our material circumstances, and/ or our beliefs, by the end.

The AstroEssence: We see permanent change to the health, to the health of relationships or finances, and/ or to power situations, their balance and influence. The group may have their say and it influences our own state or assets, or it may be that sudden revelations, a forward-thinking approach, or our own erratic impulses guide our actions and reactions–but in any case our thinking is not in alignment with either our instincts or that primal ‘knowing’ we carry deep within, and that means we may not see how our own inclinations and prejudices are working to shape things, for better or worse (Pluto parallel Hygeia, Venus sq Ceres and Uranus and sxt Chiron, Mercury qnx Sedna)

The New Moon in Sagittarius occurs at 4:17 AM PST at 7 SAG 42, closely conjoined asteroid Juno, square the Nodal axis, sesquiquadrate Uranus-Ceres, square Neptune and trine Vesta. The NM scenario echoes that of the transiting script; that is, we see a very similar story in the Lunar event and the completed aspect picture, though they don’t actually connect to each other. A Sag New Moon is a new beginning that brings our gaze to the far-off horizon; it marks an inception that stirs us to travel, to move, to do (New Moon in a Fire sign), sparking a restless energy that must be exorcised via action. The aspects the NM makes tell us how the energy will flow, in seeking fulfillment, and we know from the sign placement that what begins now is born out of optimism, is an expression of faith, or is something that arises from ‘the facts’, whatever those may be.

Conjoined Juno and square the Nodal axis, the NM promises that what begins here is centered on power and life direction, specifically at a personal level, and that creates a conduit meshing (and so making sense of) the future as it grows out of the past. It may be easier than at any previous time to see how what we’ve been and done in the past has lead to now, and we’ll clearly see what this presages for the future. Illusions or fantasies that block our perceptions will be stripped away–to keep them means we must turn away from the new start–and those most unique facets of our identity and our individuality must adjust to what’s presented here, namely the most effective way to our own empowerment. ‘Natural’ roles and expressions (for instance, our role as a woman or a man, as a mother or father, or as a sexual or creative Being) shouldn’t be ignored in choosing our life direction; we are meant to seek a place among the elements at this time, though we might be tempted to deny that these life-long role-affinities are still a part of us (out of a need to feel we’ve grown beyond them, perhaps?) We need to recognize that the NM offers an event or beginning that allows us to bring these roles to a higher, more authoritative expression, one that brings their realization much closer to our ideal.

We have the support of the mate or home environment, and can count on our highest values to help define the new start we’re offered; we also see how those things to which we’ve chosen to dedicate our energy literally create the Path forward–again, how the past has formed and informs the future. Today’s scenario may be one where we are caught up with the daily aspects in such a way that our attention goes to those permanent changes, as we attempt to manage them, so that both the unconscious and the New Moon slip in their influence without our seeing it, until a little time has passed. This is supported by the Sabian symbol for the New Moon: ‘Within The Depths Of The Earth New Elements Are Being Formed’. Deeper elements of the Self will bubble to the surface, in time; they are called forth by changes in the current landscape, and by the promise of what’s on the horizon–and, whether we are aware of it or not, they begin to form, to gain coherence and cohesion, with this Sagittarius New Moon.

new-moon-in-sagittarius-november-2016

For those born with the Sun at 8 Sagittarius: As the Sun enters the 8th degree of the sign, it is precisely conjoined with Juno, with no variation at all, and is also exactly square the Nodes. This is of note if only because we rarely see such a crisp picture involving more than one body or point–and here it suggests you are, at this point in time, a totally empowered Being, and that the events this coming Solar year, through to your next birthday, will revolve around you seeing how your past has created your future. It may be upsetting, disheartening, or exhilarating, to realize with such clarity how much you have been in charge of your own life and fate all along, but its best purpose is to open your eyes to the fact that this year, there’s nothing stopping you from making your life exactly what you want it to be. Here’s a hint to go about it: rewards come from taking a chance, from unexpected sources, and by demonstrating your own originality. Good luck, Sag, and Happy Birthday!

Sagittarius Full Moon 20 June 2016 The Sticking Place

Macbeth: If we should fail?
Lady Macbeth: We fail!
But screw your courage to the sticking-place,
And we’ll not fail.

–The Tragedy of Macbeth, Act I, Scene VII

But of course, the Scottish general and his ambitious wife do fail, spectacularly, and though I don’t see this Full Moon as bringing failure, I do think it might require we screw our own courage to the sticking place, in order to face some knowledge we acquire or some unavoidable facts (Sagittarius); what we learn will likely ask us to bring something that affects our status or our empowerment options to a definitive point or conclusion.

The Full Moon occurs at 4:02 AM PDT of the 20th at 29 Sagittarius 32, opposing Venus, in wide trine to Uranus and Ceres which are closely conjoined, sextile to Black Moon Lilith and Juno, and the Sun-Moon/ Earth axis squares Chiron (and if we’d like to count Hygeia, we get a Grand Cross). The placement by degree of this Moon tells us stress may accompany the promised resolution. All but the sextile to Juno are outside our usual stringent 2 degree (give or take a bit) limit for creating a New or Full Moon picture, and that says that the focus of this event will definitely be our own empowerment or power expression within a particular role we currently hold; it may also involve some radical and definitive assessments of the ‘once and for all’ kind involving the mate or partner, and we know this will bring about a healing for us, a return to health, in some important arena (likely related to the House in the natal chart where this Full Moon falls).

Brooklyn_Museum_-_Rabbits_and_MoonThis is the second Full Moon in Sagittarius in a row; it may echo the May Full Moon, or could present the resolution to what we learned at that point. In either case, this FM maximizes our personal power and our Self-responsibility; there’s no getting away from the fact that we create our own Fate–hence our need for sticking-place courage, in order to deal with whatever comes along, and to make the choices only we can make.

As long as we do not fall prey to our own sentimentality, to relationship demands or affections that warp our good sense or our need to support our own optimal health, we can see things for what they really are, and in seeing acknowledge what needs to happen for our own wholeness. The Sabian for this Full Moon is, ‘The Pope Blessing The Faithful’; we are the ‘holy authority’ that must give its blessing to our choices and our life direction–no external authority or blessing is needed, though if one is bestowed, it’s a clear signal that you are headed in the right direction.

We always inspect the Sabian for the Sun with a Full Moon, as a clue to the source of Full Moon events: ‘A Parade Of Bathing Beauties Before Large Beach Crowds’. This suggests to me a chance to show our attributes, who we are, to those in our sphere; it suggests accolades for our innate Beingness, a kind of credit we often fail to acknowledge, or even be aware of, something which can get lost within relationships, but a kind of credit we must all remember to take.
