A big config jumps out at me this morning–let’s take note. It’s in effect for the week–I’d say through the 31st. It’s a Mystic Rectangle involving the Nodes and the Sun/ Earth axis–the Water component is the Sun and Venus, and the South Node, and the Earth component is the Earth and the North Node, Pluto, and Ceres. This suggests illumination (through both ‘shining a light’ and through memory) of the emotional facets of love, money, and values, along with a corresponding material facet involving transformation, destruction, or the intervention of Mother Nature (or just plain regular Mom), with the combination of the two influences converging and forming an elevated opportunity to change our situation both materially and emotionally, specifically in Venusian matters. It should unfold in stages through the week, so that there’s a transformation to both a material situation or two and your feelings about them. This may be directly connected to the Venus cycle, with subjects from 8 years ago coming forward for re-assessment, re-hashing, or outright re-doing. Look to your own Venus placements, aspects, and rulerships for clarity, along with where Venus is retro in your natal chart; I know that’s a little vague, so if you’re having trouble, I’ll be glad to give it a crack in the comments section, just fill me in on your situation.
Sun just into Scorpio, Moon in Gemini=some disparity between where our attention goes and our need to process info and emotions simultaneously, but if we talk out our feelings (really let it flow!) that emo water will seek its own level.
Here it comes–more ‘poor little me’ stories–if you have a sensitive constitution, now is the time to avert your eyes and go about your business! It’s a Gemini Moon–time to communicate! I actually thought I’d post yesterday, but I’ve had my time sucked by tons of correspondence (otherwise known as arguing) in attempts to protect my work from being stolen. Is my work so precious that others can’t keep their hands off it? Not at all–apparently this is happening to a number of people. Over the weekend I stumbled across a site that had taken not only my material right off these pages (without permission and without attribution–I only found it because I happened to see a referrer link to these site stats before it was scrubbed from the article), but also the work of several other astrologers. I’ve been told before when this happens to ask the poster first to remove it (and here I should mention, this isn’t a regular forum–it’s set up so that someone posts an article, and then others comment on it). I commented that it had been taken without permission and to please remove it–admin immediately deleted my remark and chastised me for trying to embarrass the poster and for having poor priorities–so I wrote back to admin and asked that it be removed, apologizing for any embarrassment–and I was then told in a series of emails that they were within their rights to print my article, that in fact they now held the rights! and that, in brief, I was a horrible human being, and to consider myself spanked. With blessings!
I retorted with some bile of my own (nothing so bad, just some incredulous remarks on how they could consider me, and not the thief, the problem, and how I found their pretenses of love and light phony)–and in the process they stated that I was out of line and that they were in complete compliance with copyright law. Oh really! I thought.
So I told a newly-formed group of Astrology Bloggers over on facebook, put together by Jeff Kishner (thanks Jeff!–and if you’re a blogger, dear reader, and haven’t yet joined, please do!) and I got some terrific support and advice, including a link from the great April Elliot Kent to report copyright infringement to this site’s masters–so we’ll see how it goes.
It’s just another reason why I feel like the only alternative to posting everything here is to make the more specific info available only by password–it’s certainly not the first time I’ve had something taken, and not the first time someone has argued about removing it–but I do hope to make it the last. And that, of course, is only among the pieces that I happen to find–you all know how I feel about taking another’s work (and if you don’t and are curious, see ‘Terms of Use’). I’m sure at some point I’ve in some way managed to trespass in my years on the internet (illustrations can be tricky sometimes, especially pre-wikimedia) but I’ve never knowingly violated a copyright–and protecting myself almost seems a losing battle, when I have to dedicate time I could be yammering with you in order to pursue bandits–it’s just not as glamorous as it sounds!
The worst part of all this is that now I’m on their mailing list (as one can’t see the pages or contact the admin without signing up) and I’ve received about 15 emails since yesterday morning, most of which are trying to sell me something (I can bid on a magic wand! For a minimum of $80! to cover the sites “expenses” in offering it! And if I’m passing up a magic wand, what else am I missing in life? If someone offers me magic beans, I just might buy them!) So this is what I think this site is all about: they use their readers to provide cost-free content–not just what readers write themselves, but actively encouraging them to “share” other people’s work from across the web. Then these same readers are asked to give love offerings, to buy lots of paraphernalia, and so on. Obviously, I don’t have a problem with asking readers to buy something–but I do have a problem when someone uses their readers to provide their content, then turns to copyright holders with a “who us? that’s the poster’s doing, and she’s a wonderful, gentle person–how dare you accuse her of blah blah” Something is definitely rotten in this internet Denmark; I can only trust that as Horatio says in that great play, “Heaven will direct it.”
Look what I found! It references one of the suggestions for likable/ admirable individuals http://specials.msn.com/A-List/TV/Jane-Goodall-on-60-Minutes.aspx?cp-documentid=26083458
What a harrowing experience, JD.
More disheartening for me, really. It’s terribly disappointing to know that there are people who will cheerfully steal, and when confronted, try to persuade you that you’re the bad person. I guess it’s the internet–they feel protected, anonymous, and invincible.

You don’t want to mention who they are?
I would love to tell the world what creeps they are, but I don’t feel that would be a prudent move. I don’t want to attract their vitriol here, and I really don’t want to add to the bad vibes that seem to be everywhere at the moment (a withdrawal of love, replaced with stinging nettles, by retro Venus?) I did say who it was (and gave an address so other astrologers could check to see what of theirs might have been used) at the Astro bloggers group on facebook.

I went through a similar situation this weekend, but mine was fostered out of curiosity about who can use, copy, cache what.
I am dumbfounded by the reaction of WordPress – how can they ignore such abuse?
I will pay to continue to read your fantastic writings, as well as go through an e-mail system. It’s no big deal to me and if it protects you, that sounds great.
Hang in there.
Karma is alive and well.

Hi Donna, oh no, it’s NOT WordPress–I’m trying to be somewhat discrete in not mentioning who in a totally public forum–and to be fair I’ve not yet heard back from the ‘parent’–it was only the site admin itself that refused. Thanks very much for your support, D–

Sorry to hear about your troubles, Julie. When I have to register for access to a site, I then move their mails to my junk mail folder. So, they’ll show up there automatically from then on and I don’t have to open or read them. The copyright problem you’re bringing to our attention here made me think that we might want to reconsider the issue of providing all this material for free and for everybody to read and use. I don’t know if somebody copies from my blog without giving me the credit, but if that would happen I’d feel exploited. So, I can certainly understand your reaction and I’m glad that Jeffrey and April were able to assist you with this.
Thanks, V. I hope that soon the culture of the internet catches up with the print world (ironic!) and recognizes that protections exist, and that they must be enforceable.

Hi Julie, I am so sorry to hear of your problems! Will we ever survive this Venus retrograde? I have no doubt you will. I am a little confused trying to figure where Venus is not retro(I believe Scorpio-my 2nd house). I do know one thing-money is pouring out faster than it is coming in lately. And I am afraid to commit to that new kitchen we had designed until after Nov.18th. Thanks!
Hi Terri, thanks for the sympathetic ear–t Venus is retro in your 2nd, so no surprise that finances are THE issue; and I’m not heartened by t Venus’ soon-to-occur contact with your natal Mars, ruler of your 8th. I’d brace for a lot more expenses before it’s over–just take care that it’s not from accident or injury (Mars can be the culprit in these instances). I would definitely wait on starting the kitchen (on even deciding to change the kitchen!) until Venus is very very direct–it picks up speed as it enters Scopio on Nov. 30th–wait ’til then.

Thanks Julie, We starting redesigning the kitchen about 2 months ago. Now I have to figure out how to get my husband to put the brakes on the project for another month-this won’t be easy.

Julie, I can sympathize. My 91 year old, lightly demented mom signed up for a mail offer from the Amazing Kreskin. She now receives hundreds of pieces of mail from quacks all over the world asking her to send them money for readings and lucky charms. In the first two months she received 500 letters from all over the world. Just seven were legitimate and the rest were solicitation from “fortune tellers” such as Maria Duval and Father Padro. I looked them up online and no one has a good thing to say about them. It’s very, very difficult to turn this around as these scammers are unreachable. I send their envelopes back with jar lids enclosed and ask the post office postage to charge postage to the addressees. What else to do?
Jar lids–I love it!

hi there! since i hate doing the poor me scenario, let’s just say am watching life go to hell in a handbasket but fighting it with a smile 🙂 how do i figure out where venus is in retro for me? venus is in libra; def trying to release a broken heart, but also have financial difficulties–and i’m a scorpio, so was hoping this would be a better time for me! 11/1/64 3:40pm bklyn ny
so sorry for all your internet difficulties!!!
Thank you, Susan, and sorry to hear things aren’t going well for you. I guess we’re all going through big traumatic change. Venus is at 7 Scorpio 26 right now, and will remain in Scorp for the entire retro period; it’s now transiting your 7th, just past its retro conjunction to your Sun. Venus transiting the 7th certainly promises a review of relationships, especially partnerships, and when it transits the Sun it’s often like having your heart laid open–try not to hurt too much, and attempt (though I know it’s hard) to use that vulnerability to allow in as much love from the Universe as possible.
And happy soon-to-be birthday!

Hi Julie, I’m so sorry you’re having issues with your material. I personally appreciate your blog a great deal, and it’s tragic that someone is ripping off what you so lovingly put out in the universe, truly. I am also having trouble finding where Venus is not in retrograde in my chart. Is there some specific key to doing this? Thanks,
Thanks, Amy–you’re very kind. That is a typo about finding where V’s not retro–sorry! And wordpress is acting up so I can’t fix it, but will keep trying.

Ah, okay. My Venus is at 15 degrees Scorpio, and you were right, my week has been an absolute mess. I keep getting hit with emotional blows that I feel like I’ll never recover from.
Sorry to hear it, Amy. I’m writing more on that (because I think it’s happening to many people right now) I know a lot of ladies named Amy, so I don’t know if you have ECLIPSE–I’m sending you the page password for the private page here at the blog–that’s where I’ll be posting a little something on this soon.

Hi again Julie – I was just reading your response to Angel, and it sounds much like what happened to me this week. The person who I thought could be “the one” left my life, but not before inflicting some major pain. Could you have a look at my birth chart and give me some insight? Thanks, amy, October 23, 1979, Grand Rapids, MI, 12:02 pm.
Hi Amy, the retro occurred in your natal 11th, the same House as your natal Venus occupies, though the transiting lady turned around before perfecting her Return. This suggests that the moment of resolution isn’t here yet, and that it concerns what qualities you have to give the world (and possibly true friendship). Did the relationship support getting your goals out into the world, the way a true friend would support that? With Venus ruling the 5th 6th and 10th, and T Saturn just beginning his transit of your 10th, it looks to me like space is being made for you to put energy toward something both career and personal goal oriented, something possibly that uses your creative talents (5th) and that you practice on a daily basis (or should do daily–6th). Look back 8 years for what was active then, find the thread in ‘the now,’ and the relationship will take care of itself, either regaining its footing (likely sometime after direction, most likely after 30 November when V picks up speed) or dissolving for good. Look for clues to all this when T Mercury hits natal Venus October 30th. Good luck! jd

hi, If your venus is currently retrogade, is venus retrogade a good time for you, or just easier because you are used to having difficulties? I was born on a cardinal cross, so I hear that this is an easier time for me, just because im used to life being difficult. 7/22/75 6:05pm tuscon,az
Hi, m2m! According to my Solar Fire program, you do not have a retrograde Venus–not even close, it’s not even stationary. First of all, climb down off that Cross! Take possession of your life, and don’t let it be run by the tension of the many late Cardinal placements. In looking at your chart, my thought is that much of the difficulty of your life may come from those energies at that tense, anaretic degree of 29: the Sun/ Earth axis, and the Nodal axis, with Ceres conjunct the South Node. This alone would cause constant stress as the Soul (Sun) tries to accomplish what it came here for, but it’s constantly under pressure, and pulled in various directions from the tension accompanying the life direction–so continual turmoil and upset, without a feeling that you’re making progress–and likely a gloomier view of the life than is really warranted (I’m not saying you haven’t suffered, I’m saying you may see your trials as more strenuous and less typical than they really are).
Venus retro is a time, at the very least, to re-evaluate your values and what you cherish–do so now, without necessarily taking action on it before direction (or before the end of November, which is when it really picks up normal speed). It’s a good time to put your priorities in place–and with this retro happening in your 10th, you should probably concentrate on your career, business, or public reputation, for best results. Good luck!

This is awful, and the second story I’ve heard today about plagiarism and then people being insulting because you dare to ask them to stop. And it’s happened to me, too, in a very nasty way. I’m so sorry. It really is enough to make you want to put everything behind a firewall.
I really do think it’s some kind of Venus retro effect, a fight over resources that only one of the parties clearly has a claim to. So sorry it’s been your experience, too. Maybe things will lighten up soon 🙂 Thank you, Lainie

hi julie, could you help me with my venus retrograde as well? i have have lost who i considered “the one” this week. just after we discussed children last week. so you can see i am looking to the stars to find some answers. many thanks. july 7, 1973 miami, fl 5:04 am angel
Hi Angel, I took a look at your chart, and what I see suggests that your unconscious has arranged this break-up as it’s not serving your greater needs, the ones you came here to fulfill (that’s not to say that the relationship wasn’t a good one, or that it won’t be revived at some later point). Venus retro’d in your 5th, moving back over the Vertex, a point of fated events. V rules your 5th and 12th, the Houses, respectively, of romance and the unconscious. It only makes sense that your not-yet-commited relationship is where the Venus review/ changes would take place, and that the subject of children was involved recently–also 5th House. I’d guess, though, that you know deep inside why this has occurred, and that you are unfortunately taking it very personally, as a sign of your worth (natal Leonine Venus in the 2nd of Self-image). Please don’t–all appearances suggest to me that this is giving you room (perhaps only temporarily) to do or bring in something else you need to put your energy on–so take the break with grace, and know that there’s a reason why, even if it doesn’t float to the surface of your mind right now. Best, jd

Please be very careful about who you’re friending on Facebook as well, particularly those who say “I am honest and forthright and everyone else hates me” or whatever. And do let your astrology blogging friends know this and the following:
In the past few months, I’ve become absolutely disgusted by what I have seen manifest on certain astrology blogs. Not yours and most certainly not a good number of others.
I’m not going to be specific here, but I have it on pretty good authority that what a couple of your fellow astrologers are posting in their status updates and in threads is winding up posted in an astrology blog or two. The moderators and visitors tears the writer a new behind completely unbeknownst to him/her.
I’m not sure if that’s the right way to put it, but let’s just say that an astrologer or two out there in the interwebs is/are laughing at some of your expenses. It is a nasty, vicious and unfair way to keep the traffic up.
I have easily walked out of some astrology blogs and forums without looking back… because of this… and because they have become what I call “Cosmopolitan Magazine”. In other words, a place where others are ripped apart and nothing of substance actually reaches readers. Unless you count the same sh*t, different day approach substantial.
I know some pretty bad stuff is going on right now, and that some have withdrawn from the internet completely, rather than deal with it–and that’s certainly tempting. It’s why I’m essentially putting what I do under lock and key with the next issue of ECLIPSE. I also know that the vast majority of my readers and colleagues wouldn’t even think of using another person’s work illicitly; but then there are that scattered few who arrogantly believe they should decide what’s done, like the person who hides behind a screen name and consistently posts my New and Full Moon posts on Linda Goodman’s forum–this person knows I don’t want it done, and yet does it anyway–and the bewildered and righteous discussions I see, where these individuals don’t know why I’m not grateful! It’s the mark of a person who lacks creativity, not understanding that written creative work, that all creative work, is a literal asset of the creator, and that taking it is theft Until something is released into the public domain (generally life of the creator plus 70 years) or permission is obtained to use it, it’s off limits–period.
I wouldn’t call those people ‘astrologers’ who are lifting work from others–if they were they wouldn’t do it–I’d say they are pathetic, wanting to pretend to the world that they’re something they’re not.
Thanks Debby, for the warning and the support–jd

Of course! Not a problem. The really sad thing is that these “astrologers” I speak of are well known and respected on the web. Sometimes looking around, you’d have no idea who they are based on their reputations and your trust of them as they connect with you, so this is why I advise caution. I have literally seen astrologers copy others’ statuses from Facebook including their astrological contributions and then bring it into their forums, where the information is “dissected” and the poster is poked fun at for thinking, being or feeling a certain way.
Hate it. But then I guess a positive thing that is emanating from this behavior is a great downward spiral in commentary– I’m talking from 30-40 comments right down to 4 of them per post, no matter how “controversial” or “insightful” or whatever.
One of the ways to make it go away is to stay the heck away from certain sites, too. You’re right. It seems that folks are fighting the bitterness back doing exactly that!
Keep up the great work, and your head up in the midst of the stupidity.
Best,
Deb
You have an admirable moral and spiritual courage to speak up about this. I suspect I don’t know half of what you do as to who’s involved, but I have my ideas . . . and I do avoid those individuals as a result.
Thanks for fighting the good fight! We need more like you–many thanks–jd
