‘Le Palais Contarini’ By Claude Monet 1908 {{PD}}

In the Near Future It’s Good To . . . be ready to adjust and re-adjust our stances on just about everything. The big news on the 22nd was Neptune stationing retrograde and likely removing at least a couple layers of fog, misperception, misdirection, and/ or deception. This switch will point out over the course of the retrograde what dreams we can realistically move toward, which we must nix, and which need more attention, modification, or creative input in order to be viable, and may also offer a reality check on an ideal or two. This is longer-term, and so likely to be delivered by moving aspects to the chart related to natal Neptune or the transiting body to other natal points, which can help pinpoint when the influence may come forward in the life, and can indicate which life areas might see the clearing skies.

As with all the ‘heavier’ bodies, Neptune moves very slowly at direction and regression points, and so may leave the impression that this is the state of Neptune-tinged areas permanently, but there’s one thing to remember: the Neptune influence is like standing knee-deep in a muddy lake. We can’t see the bottom, even though we know it’s there, and we can’t see what else may be floating around us in the water. It can be unnerving if we focus too much on defining what we can’t see; still, we must keep in mind there are things we can’t see, and though imagination can serve to ‘fill out’ what’s invisible it’s not really advisable, as it’s too easy to let the fears drive the imagination. This period also includes a Neptune contra-parallel to Juno, suggesting a ‘big reveal’ (or at least a new idea about) the roles where you call the shots or cooperate with the mate; where you’ve been fooling yourself about your own power and reach may become apparent. Be glad you’re finding out this way, and not in some more stressful or demanding scenario.

On the 24th Venus stations direct, ending our long national nightmare of aesthetics gone wrong and the sampling of relationships outside our usual territory. Hopefully it brought some successful experimentation and revealed a new love or revenue stream, and maybe kicked off some fast friendships. Venus does her turnaround in Gemini, and that may give us a break; what we think of things may coalesce quickly and be unusually clear for a concurrent Merc retro period–and that can only act to bolster confidence.

There are two noteworthy minor contacts (but those can be major under the right circumstances, can’t they?) on the 25th: Uranus sextiles Vesta, and the Sun conjoins Hygeia. With the first we may see surprises or sudden developments delivered through the home scene and those life areas to which we dedicate our efforts. This is highly individual for each person, and could also suggest we see some intimate relationship, home situation, or cause we’re committed to through a Higher Mind lens, which could offer revelations concerning where and to what we should dedicate our efforts. The second just puts a big spotlight on health; stay aware that health is a state of being that can apply to almost anything–in this case, with the pairing in Cancer, we are likely to focus on the health of what and who we care about, or the health of anything related to the matters of the House where Cancer is located in the natal chart.

A Good Day To . . . , as well as any weekly versions, are based on the aspects perfecting on each day, Pacific time.

21 June 2019 A Particular Kind of Pressure

‘Elefanten auf der Wanderung’ By Friedrich Wilhelm Kuhnert {{PD}}

Neptune has been dragging his feet, and now has come to a halt and, figuratively speaking, turned around, preparing to go back where he came from. This period always feels to me like a baby elephant gently sitting on one’s chest, or maybe it’s like slow-motion drowning; in both cases the air is slowly, painfully, squeezed out, making for a dizzying inability to think straight, air replaced by something that’s less than water, but more than an oxygen-carrying gas. That is, we’re not quite drowning, but close!

Typically, this sensation surrounds matters of the House Neptune is transiting, and any natal bodies contacted by it at the time of turnaround, and to a lesser extent leaks out into matters of the House Neptune rules in the natal chart, bodies posited in Pisces, and the areas natally connected to this big, nebulous, gassy orb, such as its natal position and aspects.

And what kind of an atmosphere do we undergo this disorienting pressure in? One where we’re questioning whether our efforts, station, and personal authority are enough to get us where we want to go, where we are unsure if the social sphere or we are right, where we may be thinking we are weak, and where we are suddenly seeing surprising and original ways of benefiting, earning, or giving and receiving Love.

My advice: don’t struggle; let ‘it’ flow around, over, even into you; save the heavy lifting for later, but do take note of innovative, creative, and inventive ideas, as these hold the seeds of revolutionary matters you can engage in, manifest, or foment later, when the world doesn’t read as quite so repressive.

Happy Birthday, you. ‘Cakes’ 1963 By Pplachigo Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported

For those born with the Sun at 00 Cancer. Check your natal chart for the correct Sun degree (you may want to read both the degree number and the one that follows, if you have minutes on your Sun position–together these offer a more complete picture of your year ahead). Dear Cancer, you may be restless right now, and especially concerned about issues from the past, but the one thing you musn’t do this solar year, through to your next birthday, is allow those worries, regrets, and attempts to ‘do over’ to run your choices in the now. It’s a bit of a wrong-headed attitude, to be looking back, and the sooner you realize this, the sooner you can attend to your real opportunities, which include enhancing your empowerment (chiefly through asserting yourself, and by showing what and who you truly care for) and adjusting to some changing emotional realities, with this latter having the potential to open the way to new relationships and to a stronger, clearer intuitive sense. In facing any darker matters you’ve been ignoring you’ll find some original ideas and some unexpected arenas for Self-expression and advancement, so don’t hesitate to excavate. Good luck!

Odds & Ends: Mars Retro, Sacred Fires, & The Neptune Shuffle

Neptune retrogrades on the 18th, and as a molasses-slow mover, apparent motion for this big fella around changes of direction is almost standing still; it’s as if we’re observing something in another dimension, where we appear speeded-up while we see elements there as barely inching along. That implies a certain subtlety to the effect, the notorious fogginess turned up to 11. With it reversing short of perfecting a trine to Pallas, and on its way to completing a trine to Jupiter (in effect, participating in a Grand Water Trine with these two), what we may expect is an opportunity for emotional balance that slips away, something that almost achieved wisdom or practicality, that slips into exaggeration, deception, opportunism, or gives way to beliefs, which may or may not support a healthy feeling scenario. The suggestion is that at least part of the retro period will be spent trying to retrieve that nearly-reached state of emotional equilibrium–so see emo ups and downs as part of a larger balancing process, rather than as isolated experiences.

Fire Grand Trine forms roughly on the 18th of June and burns through about the 28th, with Ceres, Vesta, and Juno all late in Fire signs. This presses us to find action equilibrium, that is, expressions of our authority, personal power and reach (of which negotiations are one facet), our status (especially those roles that concern our relationships to others, and how that confers the ability to make the Will felt), and expressions of what we honor or find sacred. It’s a matter of seeking out, probably repeatedly, things that make us feel we’re imprinting our values on others and the environment. This can be exceptionally fulfilling if we succeed. The configuration offers us an unusually large window for Self-realization and the creation of satisfying circumstances, one where our actions and ideals can blend almost seamlessly, and where inspiration lights a fire under action that is right in line with what we care about most.

Mars retrogrades on the 26th in Aquarius–goes direct again on 28 August. This happens every 2.5 years and for most of us will describe a period of looking inward, or at least hesitating where earlier we would’ve charged ahead. We may be thrown back on ourselves when we try to act and fail, or we may have introspection forced on us if we hope to go forward. We examine our own (and often everyone else’s) intentions, and we look closely at the result actions bring–good, bad, or neutral. Review of our choices occurs, and motivations should be faced, if we want our own actions to be effective in the future–this is no time to dodge Self-responsibility. ‘Pulled Punches’ may be a theme, as may ‘Sexual Frustration’, ‘Thwarted Will’, and sudden losses of drive, initiative, aggression, or appetite. Ego may take over, in a panic at the disorienting feeling of drifting, or the ‘I Am’ may shrink to nothing, gaining awareness of the Cosmos as a whole and forgetting the individual needs.

A great deal of your response will depend upon your current and natal relationship with Martian energy, especially your confidence level, your sense of personal authority (the kind that grants you permission to apply your Will to the environment), the vulnerability of your ego, and your usual ability to get your Martian needs met: to be taken seriously, to receive gratification from your world, and to act as you wish. The measure of successful Mars expression will vary wildly from person to person, so the experience of retro energy may also vary significantly, and there’s always the individual who has Mars retro in the natal chart. This person may feel a little more ‘at home’ suddenly, as the world is somehow a bit more in tune with them than usual. Mars retro natally can make for a misfit or a renegade, a pirate or a pioneer, and the retro cycle may offer them some relief from their usual outsider role.

The House in the natal chart ruled by Mars may also see action, likely a pull-back from something that was going forward with no hitch–and you may see the same thing in matters of the House Mars is currently transiting and turning around in. The question becomes, ‘Is there a precipice there that this withdrawal of energy allowed you to avoid, or are you being intimidated or over cautious?’ If we’re in tune with ourselves, Mars retro can offer us information we might’ve overlooked when Mars was direct; we could avoid conflict, ego-blunders, precipitous acts, and impulsivity driven by primal demands, as either our own engine sputters or the world makes us back down, our confidence shaken by externals or the withdrawal of ‘muscle’, in one form or another.

Receptive Mars is not a term we normally employ, but which we might consider trying to manifest in some form during this period. Conflict with our own Martian urges can create real dissonance and delay or otherwise confuse our efforts, if we’re typically more straightforward. With this Mars retrograde the turnaround occurs on the same day that Earth conjoins and Sun opposes Saturn, with Hygeia forming a Cardinal T-square that suggests until we find optimum channels for the shifted energy we may suffer headaches, clumsiness, eye strain, palpitations, and unusual bone and muscle weakness–so especially at the point of retrograde, take care to avoid unnecessary stress and strain, or those injuries you find yourself suffering when Mars energy can’t find a way out may pop up and sideline you unexpectedly, making it even tougher to sort out forward momentum in a retro atmosphere.

And in case you missed it, here’s the New Moon of the 13th.
