'Conversation Tropiques' Gauguin 1887 {{PD-Art}}

11 AM PDT the Moon conjuncts the South Node and trines the Saturn/ Juno conjunction. If we felt before things would go smoothly in making our ambitions reality, now we are sure they will, as we are shown that we have all the knowledge we need contained in our past experience. This is a very fortunate series of events that can carry us a great distance in a short amount of time–be ready! 1 PM PDT the Moon squares Mercury, and suddenly we’re hearing things that are, gasp! somewhat unpleasant. This is a part of the ‘reality picture’ for successfully manifesting those ambitions: we must be willing to get the message, whether we perceive it to be positive or negative.

Just a Little Essence for The Weekend 17-18 September 2011: ‘All Kinds of Wrong’

Kittelsen 1908 {{PD-Art}}

9 PM Pacific time the Moon squares Neptune, telling us that there may enter into our perceptions an unavoidable distortion or inspiration–try to be as clear as possible as to which is which. A sextile to Mars, who is restless in 29 degrees of Cancer, arrives at 11 PM. This could trigger all kinds of wrong, as we are desperate to relieve the action and ego urges which have really suffered the inability to express throughout Mars’ time in the Moon’s sign. Temper, especially over material things, nurture and comfort, is possible, along with tantrums that ask, ‘Don’t you love me anymore?’ Take it all with a giant grain of salt ;)

Void begins 12:10 AM PDT of the 18th, with the Moon’s entry into Gemini at 1:07 AM Pacific. First aspect is a 3 AM poke in the eye as the Moon squares Chiron. Even if it’s not the middle of the night where you are, this will feel like one of those lonely reviews of hurt and rejection–or maybe we’ll be brooding about a current upset (likely hurtful words or thoughts conveyed–Gemini). And with Chiron in Pisces, it may feel, for just an hour or two, as if the whole Universe is against us. Try to take your mind off it, with some decidedly unemotional activity–or just go to sleep!

Just a Little Essence for Today 16 September 2011: Ceres Conjunct Earth ‘The Good Mother’

Here’s what I said about this conjunction in the newsletter: “Earth also conjuncts Ceres today, suggesting that we should keep all our dealings strictly material today–if you can’t weigh it, hold it in your hand, or point to it in the physical world, then leave it be.” I’d add to this a little admonition as to what to do: imagine the authority you want to hold, visualize the territory you want to declare your own, commune with the elements of nature to connect yourself to natural flow that will pull what you want to you. I know we’re probably trying to do this every day; this is a day when the Universe won’t just be available to us, she will open her arms and welcome us into her energy stream, nurture us, and ‘feed’ us what we ask for and need, like any good mother will :)

Just a Little Essence for Today 15 September 2011: ‘A Big Ol’ Venusian Reward’

The Moon enters Taurus at 12:25 PM PDT and immediately quincunxes Venus, which begins a Finger of God, apex Love, Moon sextile Chiron as base. So, if we heal our emotional state (and there are hints this might be accomplished through the materially creative or material comforts enjoyed, Pisces/ Taurus) we get a big ol’ Venusian reward. Look to the sign and/or House location of your natal Venus to see what might be coming to you, should you succeed in soothing the feelings.

Just as we enter the last hours the Finger is in place, we also see formed with the Moon’s perfection of the sextile to Chiron, and a midpoint picture involving Uranus in Aries, smack between the two. This implies that something startling, shocking, unexpected, or generated by the group could precipitate the emotional mending–and may point dead at the positive reward we can expect (or, if we’re not able to get it together, this may point to the Willful individuality expression that cuts us off from reward–Venus opp Uranus).

Just a Little Essence for Today 14 September 2011: ‘Vulnerable to Authority’

Tags

Beauce 1849 {{PD-Art}}

10 PM PDT the Moon finds herself at the midpoint of Ceres and Sedna. We are emotionally vulnerable to those in authority, and we don’t see this! Someone who wields a natural position over us, or who is a crack negotiator (remember, that’s one of Ceres’ outstanding skills!) may work their magic on us and we will be unaware of the influence. Stay alert 🙂

‘Amor’ A Re-Print from May 2008

'Amor Holding a Glass Orb' van Everdingen c.1660 {{PD-Art}}

Let’s look at one relatively misunderstood representative of love, the asteroid Amor. In an historical novel I read years ago, there was a scene that perfectly illustrates the kind of misunderstanding that can surround Amor contact. Set in late Medieval France, the story involves a young man, traveling, who is invited to a noble’s table for dinner. The noble has an impressionable young daughter, who instantly develops a crush on the handsome stranger. She expresses a desire to learn new things, particularly to learn Latin, so that she can read many of the available texts. He volunteers to give her her first lesson; anyone who’s studied Latin knows that you begin with the verb ‘amor,’ to love. As he instructs her at the dinner table, “Amo, Amas, Amat,” she mistakes his use of the verb, reading into the situation that he chose it to send her a message that he’s interested in her as a paramour. From his point of view, he was simply beginning at the beginning, with no hidden meaning or implication. This is very much like asteroid Amor in one chart in contact with a placement in another’s chart: it feels like love is coming from the Amor person, and indeed it is; but how good are we at distinguishing the essence of love offered from romantic and/ or sexual interest? That’s where the difficulty comes forward.

There’s also the question of just how Amor expresses in the chart of an individual. If it represents love in its most elemental form, then this energy might drive each of us in a very particular way, linking in to the chart and showing how we try to get, process, and express Amor ourselves. And who needs love from the world more than a performer, and especially a comedian? The chart of SNL cast member and unlikely movie star, the late Chris Farley (15 February 1964, 3:34 PM, Madison Wisconsin), shows this well. Amor is at 28 Virgo in the 3rd of communication, suggesting both a likely outlet for and a likely conduit through which to receive the energy from the outside world; his need to give and receive love was the need for continual interaction and communication. Amor opposes the 9th House Moon (the broadcasting of emotions) located in Pisces, perhaps suggesting that the emotions have difficulty separating through appropriate boundaries (and certainly pointing toward a possible emotional reason behind the drug problems), with Cancer on the 12th reinforcing this and adding the idea that Mr. Farley let his emotions run wild and undifferentiated at his own peril (through the ‘serve or suffer’ mechanism of the 12th). The only other aspect made by Amor is a trine to Vesta, suggesting that the impetus behind his reaching out was fueled by the feeling that love in its basic sense was sacred–and that he acutely felt violations of this, not only personally but in the Collective–and as we know, no individual who feels the Collective pain can carry it alone without serious consequences.

From the section on Amor in THE ASTROLOGY OF INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/ we know that the real meaning of Amor is often directly confused with romantic love; Amor is actually (and here I quote the book): ” . . . a love that’s unconcerned with sexuality or romance; it’s pure, and as such will be heavily colored by the energies with which it connects in both the individual chart and cross-chart.” So, when we’re looking for love, we are indeed looking for Amor, but when we’re looking for romance, we should be looking elsewhere–this is well-illustrated in the book by the comparison of Amor aspects in the charts of one-time spouses Julia Roberts and Lyle Lovett; we see specifically that Amor may have persuaded them there was more romantic depth to the relationship than there was, a classic case of mistaking one love energy for another.

It’s important to note that having Amor contacts is both supportive of and very good for a successful relationship, but they must be accompanied by romantic contacts if there’s to be sexual chemistry, or even romantic feelings. If you’re presented with an opportunity for romance, check the relationship of natal Amor between the charts, and look at transiting Amor as well; if transiting Amor is prominent in one or the other chart at present, it may be that the sense of love is diffuse and focused on humankind, rather than in romance. In this instance we may be feeling the Amor radiating from another, but mistaking it for other, very personal energies. We can check for romantic contacts between the charts to see if this will just be a pleasant encounter (T Venus contact to natal placements), a hot sexual (or even violent) dalliance with likely little future potential (T Pluto contact, possibly to N Mars, ASC, or Venus), an interaction where one or the other party projects ideals or illusions (T Neptune to N Venus in the chart of the individual), or a long-lasting love match of the first order (positive contacts between natal placements, plus strong Saturn contact from each chart). Obviously, there are other combinations that show potential relationship, as well, but the distinction between Amor and romance and/ or sexual interest must always be sorted out.

Just a Little Essence for Today 13 September 2011 ‘The Precipice’

Skovgaard 1851 {{PD-Art}}

A sextile to Vesta from the Moon comes about near noon, PDT, and acts to remind us of what matters most. Will pull some back from the precipice over which they were leaning, ready to throw ‘it’ all away. 2 PM PDT and the Moon is quincunx Mercury, making us work to be understood, and to understand–not a great time for communicating. If you can’t avoid it, try to look past all the ego and bluster, and stick to details, facts, numbers, and, perhaps surprisingly, health matters–all these will be heard loud and clear.

The Essence for 10 September 2011: Don’t Dive Right In

Diving Horse 1907 {{PD}}

10:30 AM PDT the Moon conjuncts Neptune in the 29th degree of Aquarius. We are stressed! chiefly about how clearly we may or may not be perceiving matters. Those prone to illusion may dive right in; everyone else will go for varying types of reality checks or may recognize the potential for creative flow accessible to the intellect and use the energy in highly innovative ways. Void begins at 10:33 AM (remember there’s a window when this is in effect, so one can begin to work with the creative energy several hours before and after the aspect becomes exact, though during the Void we may get an unexpected result). The Moon enters Pisces at 12:27 PM Pacific time.

The Essence for 9 September 2011: Emotionally Tipsy

'Andromache weeping over the ashes of Hector' Burke {{PD-Art}}

3 PM PDT the Moon trines the South Node, making us, in a way, emotionally tipsy. As always with the Moon in Aquarius, we believe we are rational even when we’re feeling, and SN in Gemini brings the mind repeatedly back to old conversations, associations, and links that have long been undone–and depending on how stridently we insist that we are reasoning purely, we will proportionately suffer a disturbance to the emotional equilibrium. If we can open ourselves to the unadulterated ups and downs of feeling, we can take an emotional journey without ever leaving the spot where we stand. Can inspire calls to people from the past, trips to dusty photo albums, and crying jags centered in hurt and regret from long ago. Soothe yourself by stepping outside (Air placements).

The Essence for 8 September 2011: Kicking and Screaming

Stencil art in Madison Wisconsin USA 2007 by David Drexler Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 Generic

Moon enters Aquarius (2:42 AM PDT) kicking and screaming. Why, I’m not sure–let’s just call it a hunch, and those of you awake at this time can report in :) Maybe it’s the semi-sextile to Chiron that sneaks in about 6:30 AM PDT; we are trying to go all intellectual on things (Aquarius) and somehow emotions, especially hurts, come forward. Self-awareness is the key here.

Just before 2 PM PDT the Moon conjuncts Vesta, putting us in a noble frame of mind. This can put us on the trail of living our highest ideals in order to gain emotional fulfillment, and perhaps surprisingly, could make us intolerant, condescending, and vain, because any contact with others may invite us to judge and compare–and really, nobody can do “I’m devoted to a higher concept than you are” like Vesta! Those who fare best are those who hold respect for others and their own humility in high regard.
