What Do We Feel Now?

I’m stunned by what’s happening in the world, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. It’s not that I’m so sensitive, it’s that I’m human, and so are you, and we look around and find things happening that we never thought we’d see: massive earthquakes that have devastated Japan and that stretch tentacles across the globe–and that threaten a second tsunami of radiation if meltdown to Japan’s nuclear power plants can’t be averted; the violent deposing of dictators as nation’s seek a new voice; the stripping of worker’s rights in Wisconsin; the ‘business’ of hostage-taking as modern day pirates enter the oldest deal in the world (freedom in exchange for profit) that has international consequences; violence, assassination and assassination attempts predicated on hate-speech; and on and on.

I find myself wondering where astrology falls in all this. It’s a wonderful and useful art for understanding influences within and the system of the Universe without–but when we are in the midst of catastrophe, what place does it have? And the truth is my world is intact–I can feel for others at a distance, but how do I serve them and myself with my art, without seeming to take their trauma or tragedy or simple experience as an exercise, rather than as a human moment of depth and feeling? It feels odd to continue with ‘the usual’–and yet maybe that’s the best answer, to use our skills, all of them, in the best way we know how.

Is what’s happening a reflection of Uranus into Aries? Did it cast a shadow before it that pulled all Uranian energies in its wake, like water down a drain? Is it a reflection of the multiple, long-term 29 degree placements that are so stressful in expression? Is it Ceres/ Chiron with Neptune at their midpoint? I don’t know that there’s any one answer, or even that many factors can explain the state of things; I just know that we must do our very best as individuals, and call forward our faith, no matter what it’s placed in–and my thought is that, starting with Uranus in Aries, we might want to translate that placement as ‘The Group (Uranus) Is One (Aries)’ and live in accord with this new age we’ve entered.

We’ve already had a taste of this starting in late May of last year; now, Uranus enters Aries on March 11th at 4:50 PM Pacific. It makes two aspects, a sextile to Pallas at 00 Aquarius and a sesquiquadrate to Saturn in Libra, and both should inform Uranus’ Aries Point manifestation. If the Aries Point is a major point of inception, where the pure, Archetypal Uranus energies move from concept into reality, then perhaps we should be comparing our own Uranus energies as they manifest as both concepts and realities. I know that’s a tall order of Archetypal thinking when we’d all really just like to pull up a chair on the verandah and sip a mint julep and listen to the crickets as evening falls, but it will only be to our benefit if we can recognize at least some of the potentials for Uranus’ material presence–and these will certainly be keyed to his natal presence in our charts–otherwise, he’d show up in the same guise for everyone.

A few loose guidelines: if the Aries Point (00 Aries) in your natal chart is below the horizon (the axis of the Ascendant/ Descendant), then Uranus will likely appear as a concept first, and/ or as an internal perception or awareness–an idea will be the thing ‘born’; if the Aries Point in your natal chart is above the horizon, then you will likely see materialize or be presented with a Uranian manifestation in very concrete terms, and probably very suddenly. Remember, the passage of Uranus into Aries is a ‘birth point’ of sorts, with all the blood, mess, squalling, sudden emergencies, and tender feelings entailed in any birth very likely to appear to some extent.

4 AM PST the Taurus Moon conjuncts Sedna and trines Juno, and while we put the intuitions and possibly the emotions to work for our empowerment, we are guaranteed a blind spot about just what we feel–and that means we may be functioning in the emotional dark! An 11 AM square to Ceres helps us re-connect to that sense of Self that felt lost at the contact to Sedna–and by the time of the Moon’s square to Neptune (7:30 PM PST) we are ready for a little relaxation, escape, or mystery. Void begins 9:27 PM Pacific as the Moon pulls away from a sextile to Uranus; Moon enters Gemini at 9:31 PM.

A Word on Uranus Into Aries

I have not forgotten that Uranus has already been into Aries last summer (27 May-13 August); to me, dipping a toe in the water is nothing like plunging in to swim the English Channel (Is that just called ‘The Channel’ in the UK, like Chinese food is just ‘food’ in China?) So if you’re wondering why I’m making a big deal, my feeling is that this is the ‘real’ entry into Aries, as it’s not coming back out–and in my opinion, that makes a great deal of difference in what kind of effect we observe. (Not to mention that any major body to the Aries Point, from which it will continue on in Aries, rather than retreat, is more than worthy of note.) Sometimes when a planet moves into a sign only to move right back out, it’s a taste or preview of the major transit to come, and sometimes not; more often we find few connecting threads that can be traced to later events and recognized as having been previewed in the initial foray. (The idea of a preview is the standard belief, but hasn’t really been supported in my own observation–so go with what you like!)

This is a day to watch. Messages will be everywhere (Merc conj Uranus @ 29 stressful and frantic degrees!) and with Neptune at the midpoint of Pallas and Uranus/ Merc we could be in a fight to see past delusion to common sense, both our own, internal mechanism and what the group is telling us.

A sextile of the Moon to Mars around 8:30 AM PST makes us more than willing to act–and act we shall. Uranus is nearly ready to enter Aries–I don’t think we’ll be able to stop ourselves.

Around 8 AM PST the Moon reaches out and makes a swing with Neptune at 29 degrees, and Uranus sits smack in the middle, also at 29 degrees–but that’s not all: the Moon in all her Arian-ness receives a square from Pallas at 29 of Capricorn. Suddenly (for Uranus is involved) what we are imagining, creating, and/ or fantasizing about is challenged either by what we know, or what we know our skills can handle. It’s urgent, likely creating the feeling that we must work this out right now, and also that we may be losing a valuable opportunity if we don’t just push forward–but that just isn’t so. Realize that the sense of pressure is an illusion, and wait for a more clear-eyed moment to act or make choices. A possible alternative to that experience is one where we meet the conflict over whether our skills are adequate only to find that the group keeps us hamstringed, unable to move in the direction we’d like to go–darn group!

By midnight (6th to the 7th) the Moon will oppose h.Zeus, perhaps giving us the feeling that we’ll never fulfill those ambitions and desires, or perhaps manifesting as an actual person or entity that we expect to be supportive but isn’t, likely ‘for our own good’ (h.Zeus in Libra). Soon after (3:30 AM PST) the Moon opposes Saturn, and agents of oppression, within and without, come out of the woodwork. With a huge amount of co-operative good will, and a steady determination to refuse to bargain away your own interests, you may be able to gain a strong foothold in an emotionally satisfying  situation–your own internal balance and health is the key to whether this will be onerous or a positive step forward.

This is reminiscent of a certain 80s pop act, don't you think?

The Moon squares Pluto by 11:30 AM PST. This may make the start of the Aries energy feel especially rough; we were gliding along, attending to our own business, getting things done (buoyed by the sextile to Venus, 9AM PST), and then wham! an 80s pop duo surfaced out of nowhere! No, wait–it’s not that bad! We just find conflict with some agent for the lord of the Underworld–and he’s probably not wearing pink short shorts and a crop tee–but then, you never know what form a destructive force out to make us change may take :)

Around 4 AM PST the Moon conjuncts Mercury, which will make both sextile Sedna. Will we get the message, or will it be obscured by Sedna’s ability to hide what’s right in front of us? I don’t know that there’s any way to combat this effect, as no matter how attentive we are there is something we just don’t see! Nevertheless, we may feel the message, acutely–and if we can channel the energy into some other (natal) contact, we might see it secondhand, like an object behind us that we see in a rear-view mirror (and remember, those are always larger than they appear!)

The Moon hits Uranus 7:30 PM Pacific, and chaos of one kind or another may ensue. It’s an elegant upset, seated largely in the mind, either through confusion or through perceptions that don’t align with what we think should be there! Surprises concerning information, ‘the latest,’ academic areas, and/ or groups with which we’re involved may all come to the fore. Be prepared, and don’t overreact; as a perceptual issue this may better wait for the Moon’s entry into Aries before we actually do anything connected with what we see–the picture as we see it may change significantly before then.

The Essence for the Pisces New Moon, 4 March 2011: Adjustment

I know this shows a more-than-New Moon, but I liked the idea that they had come out to enjoy the night, and only one seems just now to be noticing Moonrise B. Constant 1902 {{PD}}

The Pisces New Moon occurs on the 4th at 12:45 PM PST at 13 Pisces 55. Saturn in Libra quincunxes the Moon/ Sun combo, as does h.Zeus in Libra–and those are the only aspects. This suggests that the New Moon will birth the need for adjustment in our lives, adjustment that is called for by Saturnian factors like rules, regulations, boundaries, and the material surroundings, even reality, as the New Moon will shed light on it in a way that the need for modification cannot be denied. An interesting point is made, though, when we include h.Zeus: the need for adjustment could, for at least some of us, come about because of the manifestation or fulfillment of a desire or ambition–so adjustment may be a very positive thing, indeed. For others, it could imply the need to recognize that those ambitions and desires will never be fulfilled, that Saturn puts up a solid wall and says, “Not one step further.”–and to adjust the life in a different direction, as a result.

The Sun will be quincunx my pet theoretical provocateur, h.Zeus, and that suggests that our ambitions and desires will be eating at us, requiring our accommodation, even as we may ignore, misinterpret, or deny our needs–for ambitions are a form of need. Though they may take a shape that’s really not something that should be on our plate (the hopelessly uncoordinated person who aspires to be a world-class athlete, perhaps) they serve to move us forward, to give us a model of perfection in whatever we’re striving for–and thus should be respected, even as we must recognize our own true talents and abilities. Ultimately fulfillment of ambitions and desires becomes a dance between wanting the ideal and what we are–and this aspect offers us a point where, if we are attentive, we can modify our practice to be more effective in moving us toward our goals.

Around 11 PM PST the Moon conjuncts Mars and sextiles Pluto–it’s a major impetus to change and to act to change, with the urge to act focused in the House Mars is now transiting, the House where natal Mars is located and the matters of the House he rules–but the effects may leak out through the positions of transiting Pluto and natal Pluto (and perhaps through the House he rules). It’s a little tricky: though we act over here, in Mars territory, we get effects over here, where Pluto hangs out. Think about to where the results of your actions might funnel before you make a move–it’s not that things will be disastrous, but just that we need to see the chain of reaction rather than just assuming we know how our actions will ‘ripple out.’
