Gustave Doré ‘Andromeda’ 1869 {{PD}}

Moment of meeting of the Sun and Moon occurs at 2:37 AM PDT of the 20th at 29 Pisces 27, with the eclipse officially beginning just a hair after. The New Moon makes a wide sextile to Ceres, and a square to Pallas, which fills in the base of a Fist of God, apex Jupiter, and also creates a T-square with the Sun-Moon/ Earth axis; a panoply of ancient gods are involved, each having a say in what is born at this time, each contact suggesting that what came before with that energy is eclipsed, wiped out, or superseded. The NM is a conception point, the placement of which (in the 29th degree) signals that a new beginning is coming at a point of supreme stress; things must reach maximum tension in order for the new beginning to form at all. That means that some who are able to avoid that point of nearly unbearable strain may not receive the kind of wipe-out and new start that those who almost drown (this is a Water event, after all) will; theirs may be much more subtle, with changes playing out over the six months between this event and the next Solar eclipse.

The change is gentle with Ceres, which represents our personal authority, power, territory, a somewhat maternal inclination to overstep boundaries, and our capacity to negotiate (which at least in part rests in our own confidence; someone frightened or powerless surrenders or attacks—someone personally empowered negotiates). We adjust our boundaries, perhaps re-assign territories or re-claim some of our own, and we may take a step back (or forward) concerning relationships where caretaking and responsibility lie at least somewhat in our sphere. Too, the presence of Ceres in the equation can suggest that Nature itself will exert an influence, whether through external circumstances (flood or fires, for instance) or internal ones (such as hormonal changes, diet, or illness/ imbalance), and that these will play into events.

The T that Pallas forms with the Sun-Moon/ Earth is naturally tense; it takes the stress of a Solar eclipse, ups the ante with the event forming at 29 degrees, and then challenges the entire event with a question: Is this wise? The ‘this’ refers to whatever previous guidelines we navigated by and the way the eclipse brings them into question, or even obliterates them, proving them unwise or currently untenable. Pallas is in Sagittarius, so may imply that new information, facts, or exposure to another way of being or doing turns our ‘wisdom world view’ on its head; there’s also the chance that Pallas refers to practical or skill-based options that change with the eclipse event. Acquisition of new knowledge or skills may make old ones obsolete or make something that was once practical no longer so.

Remember, Pallas is a Warrior by birth, so we may come out fighting at the suggestion that what we thought was wise really isn’t, anymore; being nothing so much as skilled means that Pallas, after the first aggressive response, will likely look to her skill set to handle what comes forward. Realizing that even wisdom can be conditional, or can change with circumstances, is important in dealing with the kind of curve-ball the T will throw at us.

Pallas is also part of the base of the Fist; the T and the Fist may address two different Pallas in Sag related matters or may speak of just one that has several facets. A Fist of God can be as harsh as it sounds—it can represent a hard situation or conflict (the base square) that results in the apex, and whether that’s a positive outcome or a further frustration is often up to us. In this case, with the eclipse itself square Pallas as the initiating tension, we will likely see a New Moon event that challenges our ideas of wisdom and practicality (much like with the T), but the difference will be that resolution of this particular upset will either offer us entré to a wider social circle, will bring acquisition of new knowledge, philosophy, or belief, or could offer opportunity—the problem being that this may be forced on us, and feel more like punishment than a positive!

Jupiter is of course the supreme god, at least as far as those who gather on Mt. Olympus are concerned. As significator of the Fist outcome, this may suggest we feel very much at the mercy of some larger entity, something like society, which seems to call all the shots. It’s vital to remember at this time that this is a perception only; we are still able to fashion our individual choices and responses independent of the social sphere, should we truly want to—but making that choice holds consequences that we must be prepared to accept, should we go our own way.

This is an excerpt from the Solar eclipse article in ECLIPSE. Of course, we’re in Dark of the Moon territory right now, with Luna still to contact (by conjunction) Vesta, Mercury, Neptune, and Chiron before the Solar event–and that may mean a lot of restless energy, whispers just below hearing, looking for a place to express. This can be a very creative time, for those open to manifesting the urge that usually remains quiet in the unconscious–it’s accessible now; it’s as if we’re able to see into the dark corners of the mind, sensing things, with no need for direct illumination–take a look, see what’s in there.

A 5:30 PM Pacific time sextile of the Moon to Sedna may knock us off our game–at the very least, it delivers a few foggy hours.  9:30 PM PDT the Moon trines Pallas; the fog wears off and we see what’s wise. 11:30 PM PDT the Moon squares Saturn–if we don’t put a lid on it now, someone else might! This may cause an ‘echo effect’ that carries over into the next day; we may rebel at containment, and immediately adopt a contrary (i.e. Uranian) attitude. This also kicks off a T-square involving the Moon as the arm of the Saturn/ Vesta opposition; this pushes rebellion in the direction of irreverence and the potential for disrespecting both tradition and our own highest values.

Moon in Pisces, My Daily Astrology Diary, T-square, The Astro Essence

Lithograph by Felon c.1850 {{PD-Art}}

The 15th

Just before 11 PM Pacific the Pisces Moon forms a T-square with the Nodal axis, forcing an emotional reckoning, and putting us once again in a state that asks us to measure our progress, and this time, also our direction in life. This once more feels to me like needless stress; though we’re all accomplishment-oriented there are times when our interests are better served by taking a relaxed, playful, or creative approach to life and events. Considering the Moon is in escapist Pisces, a little oblivion might be just the ticket, and may, in fact, be our best approach earlier in the day with the quincunx as well. Taking it easy may be the only positive answer.

The 16th

Just before 3 AM Pacific the Pisces Moon quincunxes the perfection of the Sun/ Venus meeting. Considering the signs involved (Leo, Pisces) it may be that we are being asked to adjust the identity or ego response in a creative fashion that will actually expand the reward (whether it’s material or relationship aligned) we are capable of receiving. And you’ll notice I said, “capable of receiving”–this may help us widen our view of ourselves, help us to accept more facets of who we are, and that this will make us more capable than we are at present to embrace love and ‘what’s treasured’ from many more sources. Now, we must essentially do all this ‘blind’ (Moon sextile Sedna)–it becomes a test of faith through the capacity to love and be loved. Period.

18 March 2010: Climb Down Off That Cross!

Astro Blog-A-Thon, Grand Cross, My Daily Astrology Diary, T-square

Somewhere in here is the martyrdom of St. Ursula of Cologne 1411, by Master of the Small Passion

While my colleagues are all over what’s going on right now (UPDATE 19 March–the Blog-a-thon is NOW! http://skywriter.wordpress.com/2010/02/09/pluto-problems-got-you-perplexed-heres-what-helps/), and I encourage you to seek out the 50 + highly talented astrologers who’ll address the Cardinal event, I’d like to talk a little about the other T-squares going on right now (and even the flash-in-the-pan Grand Cross that the Moon’s transit supplies on the 23rd). We’ve got all these components: Sun/ Uranus/ Mercury on one side, Saturn/ Earth on the other, T-d by Ceres and Pluto; then separately, we see Venus opposed Zeus and involved in a Cardinal Grand Cross with the Nodes.

If we read the T energy of all the parts as one big lump (possible right now) we see uniqueness, individuality, and rebellion from the status quo melded with communication (and possibly even quick-change, and deception–more and more I’m noticing the Trickster at work during Direct motion), and all with a big light shone on it–and this in some way ‘faces’ reality, especially material realities–and these are T-d by Power, and that’s with a BIG ‘P.’  The suggestion is that in some form we’ll all deal with a challenging power situation that affects our reality–but I’ll leave that to my able cohorts–while I look at the Grand Cross of Venus/ Zeus/ Nodes.

In this GC we see life direction tested by opposing forces; on one side we see love, values, money, assets, jealousy, or talents, while on the other we see Will, ambition, desire, lust, and the idea of no constraints, doing and having what we want with no cost and no consequences, some of this driven by Daddy issues. The trick is not to become caught on the cross, a martyr to the Venus/ Zeus cross-fire. Will we be Venus, Zeus, or a bystander whose Path is changed in some way by the clash? Or will the whole thing be internal, signalled through the matters of the Houses occupied by transiting Venus and Zeus in the natal chart? Contact of the Cross components to natal factors will be key to knowing how this will play out for you. For me, it seems to be internal, with the Venus/ Zeus opposition across my 2nd/8th and Zeus conjunct my Sun and Jupiter (and with a wee orb, my Mars); lately life direction has definitely been affected by my own assessment of talents and affections, especially as they impact my ego, identity, ambitions and desire to ‘shine.’ Of late it’s been a balancing act that’s challenged me to stay aware of my intentions and conscious of desires–and to avoid any sense of being a victim, a tempting trap with Neptune transiting my 1st. If you’d like, share how the GC is affecting you in ‘Comments’; tell us how you’re playing the Cross, so it doesn’t play you!

2 Feb 2010: The Wisdom of Saturn

Juno, Libra, Moon, My Daily Astrology Diary, Nodal Axis, Saturn, T-square

At 5:42 AM PST the Moon enters Libra and rushes to meet Saturn–why? She has no choice, and neither do we–by noon PST they’re solidly together, and we’re sensing ourselves suppressing feeling in relationship–and this is probably for the best, as the Moon will be square Pluto (like you didn’t see that coming!) inclining us to be destructive, either from resistance to change or from insistence on it, and the Moon has just made a quincunx to Jupiter in Pisces–and it’s likely that something in our social circle, or the Collective at large, has rubbed us the wrong way. We may not even be conscious of this, thanks to the Moon’s unconscious function, but we’ll certainly do the human thing and channel our irritation into the nearest outlet–which may be a relationship–and so we should, for once, thank Saturn for offering to put a lid on it, with the soon-to-follow sextile to Mars (6:30 PM-ish) keeping us more than ready to express ourselves throughout the day–and as we’ve seen, what we’re inclined to share is, for the moment, better kept to ourselves.

At around 9 PM PST the Moon slips into the midpoint of Saturn and Zeus, all three in Libra. This is a time when we have an excellent chance to balance our ambitions and desire nature with both the reality of our lives and our own cautious inclinations, all done through the emotions–specifically through reflection on our own emotional perceptions, especially as they come to our realization through relationships (Libra).

During the wee hours of the 3rd PST, the Moon moves on to conjunct Zeus–for those of us who are up at this time, no matter where we are on the globe, the emotions may feel a surge of Will, a forward-pushing wave where we may be tempted to assert ourselves guided by our own wants and feelings–just make sure that the emotional framework used is the most positive available–Self interests justified by unacknowledged need, anger, or other ‘unacceptable’ feelings may work against us, in the end, and bring about nothing so much as a tangle we’ll have to work hard to extricate ourselves from.

Though here in the daily astro diary I’ll concentrate on the Moon and her movements (other material on aspects, and emphasizing the asteroids, is available in the magazine at http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/eclipse-in-depth-astrology-for-the-21st-century/ along with this quarter’s other in-depth topics: Zeus theories examined in real-life examples, chart interceptions and their hidden meanings, and the historical perspective on two of England’s most memorable queens, sisters whose interaction holds a puzzle of its own), I’ll include occasional aspects here that catch my eye, such as the Juno exact T-square with the Nodal axis active now–this suggests we’ll be testing our own empowerment as it affects our life direction. We may hesitate, as we draw from the past and feel cautious, unwilling to risk upsetting the direction in which we’re moving; for others this same blast from the past will bring a surety from experience that propels us toward our goals. For all of us it will likely be a time of measuring how empowered we dare be in the face of all that our course demands, and is certainly a test of what we are willing to open ourselves to.

Today’s Link: much more to ponder on the recent eclipse and the rhythm of the Moon and Sun http://laurenlesko.com/9752#more-9752

Thanks, and have a great day!

If I Can’t See It, Why Does It Hurt?

T-square

The obvious answer to that is, Why must you see something in order for it to have an effect? That’s the situation we’re facing right now: we can feel it, but getting a handle on just where the energies are being generated is nearly impossible. The biggest problems, though, are twofold: we may attribute effects to the wrong sources, and we may insist on things that aren’t necessarily so (the most pronounced of which might be the mantra, ‘Venus square Jupiter means everything is great, dammit!’)

The dynamic in play is a Venus/ Ceres conjunction (strong women, or strong animas, or two values sets, with very different agendas, but both focused on having a power-effect on the situation–look to your values, finances, or relationships for the arena where this appears personally, or in the matters of the natal House where this conjunction is happening for you) opposed Sedna (the ‘blind spot’) all in a T-square with Jupiter/ Chiron (exaggerated hurt or PR, hurt from the social sphere, skills tested under duress–the square–in the social sphere, learning what wounds, or those wounds inflicted by religious, educational, or cultural differences).

This can have about a million different forms, but the essence of it is this: we’re bound to identify hurt coming from somewhere, and get both the nature of the upset and the origins wrong. Sedna makes us unable to see–it’s not a matter of being willing to see, or of making a special effort; the energy of this body removes our ability to accurately pinpoint the conflict (though some number of us will guess correctly in spite of ourselves! It’s just the odds). What, then, can we do about this? How to cope?

Even our coping mechanism comes with a caveat, as Neptune, the Great Obscurer, is involved. We can look to innate wisdom and common sense for guidance (Pallas), as this energy is accessible through feedback from the social realm and from our own attempts to reach out or expand (Jupiter), and through application of the unique Chirotic skills, and our ideals, creativity, and imagination (Neptune). The trine between Pallas and Jupiter/ Chiron/ Neptune allows a funneling of our ‘smarts’ and our most competent attributes so that, by observing the products of actions and thoughts based on our ideal and imaginings, and on the feedback we get from the social sphere, we can determine in what way our perceptual equation is imbalanced. We can pinpoint the relevant power, authority, values, relationship, and financial issues that are really in play at present, and discern whether they truly are injurious, as well as in what way they may serve to help us expand and ‘get the word out.’

Wish I didn’t have to be so vague, but with the involvement of both Sedna and Neptune, nebulousness is almost required! And a word about the Venus/ Jupiter square: don’t forget that a square is a conflict aspect, at least initially–there will be discord within attempts to expand in Venusian areas. If we accept this, we’ll be much more likely to stop insisting that this is a great influence, and start working with it, so that we can resolve the tension and actually make it work for us, likely with great success.
