All the free subscriptions and sub extensions have been awarded; thanks to all for participating–I received far more entries than I expected–what a great surprise!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

28 June: 6 AM PDT of the 28th the Cancer Moon squares Vesta-Ceres. We care about something and that caring conflicts with our highest values and/ or will get us in trouble with authorities. When does this happen? When we love someone who will lead us down a bad path, when we know that the right thing to do is also wrong in the eyes of the establishment, when we are betrayed and have always believed we would walk away in this situation, but find ourselves staying against all better judgment. How to assess our position? We need to make caring about our own welfare top priority; if being involved in the situation means we won’t be respected in some way, it’s time to go. 2 PM PDT the Moon sextiles Sedna and catches stationary retrograde Mercury at the midpoint. Merc is paused for direction–he may act as the outlet for the emotional ‘blind spot’. Watch your own communications for what they can tell you about hidden feelings or motives within you; careful observation should be quite revealing. 5:30 PM PDT the Moon conjuncts Jupiter. Feelings are exaggerated; someone may insist they care more than is reasonable. Look for what they might get out of taking such a stance. Void begins at 6:03 PM PDT; the Moon enters Leo at 1:43 AM Pacific time of the 29th.

Today’s image is a chocolate bar shared among three strangers as they wait in the pouring rain for a bus. Sometimes it’s just nice to be nice, you know?

29 June: we are aware that there’s a danger we could base our actions on past hurt, but we should know that the real influence is buried feeling, instinct, and hidden matters—not that that’s necessarily better, or worse! Adding to our, what? confusion? is a strong sense that relationships and financial matters are not what they seem. The way to handle this discomfiting influence is to channel our energy into a purely creative project, one that does not depend on others, or on obtaining new assets, before going forward. Work with what you have; action brings forward skills, draws inspiration from the unseen, and could, eventually, pay. (Mars quincunx Chiron, contra-parallel Sedna, Venus square Neptune, Sun trine Neptune)

Weighing Libra

Being Fair; Giving In—Or Not; Judging, and feeling they have the right to judge (reflected by Saturn’s exaltation in the sign), Libra assesses everything she contacts, and sets the standard for aesthetics, partnerships, for the worth of things, and in many ways, that’s her place. Libra is a set of contradictions: appreciating but wanting more; generous (insisting on sharing!) but also insisting that everyone else shares equally, as well; thinking about the other—but in the context of the Self; cooperating—but only if you do, too!
What appears to the onlooker to be indecisiveness is anything but; when asked to choose, Libra must ponder, weigh, and extrapolate. One of their strengths that’s often overlooked is that Libra thinks (it’s an Air sign, we musn’t forget) everything through to the bitter end before venturing an opinion or committing, which means once committed Libra’s loyalty is fixed, like its element. Libra’s completeness of thought is a plus mistaken for stupidity, timidity, or no preference at all—but Libra always has a preference—how could a being ruled by aesthetics, beauty, and the worth of things not?
Libra is seen as a social sign, but that isn’t quite right—it’s just me and you, not a crowd, and if we’re not speaking (a favorite tactic of Air signs), then a partnership with an unhappy Libra can be a lonely place, indeed.

Just a Little Astro Essence on Venus in the Natal Chart

‘A Breezy Day’ CC Curran 1887 {{PD-Art}}

Venus, of course, makes her presence felt by House at least twice in the natal chart, once in her rulership of Taurus, and once with Libra. These two signs are naturally quincunx each other, and this describes the way we quite typically see relationship matters (Libra) as incompatible with material ones (Taurus). We tend to believe that the lowest form of relationship in which we can engage is one where we receive a material benefit; we call this person a ‘prostitute’ or label them ‘kept’ and act as if this (a money for  action or energy exchange, and we condemn this in spite of the fact that a job has the same general parameters) is in itself a moral failing. Our natural uneasiness in mixing or equating the two must be tempered by an awareness that living in mutually beneficial material situations is really what we must do, not just for survival but in order to build civilization. We tend to see a relationship that involves love as more noble than one that provides something we need–and yet we mix these things, love and material need, all the time, particularly when we are in partnership–and perhaps that is one of the underlying reasons the mate relationship is so fraught with emotional landmines: we hold ourselves and our loved ones to impossibly high standards, demanding ‘pure’ love be given and received, and yet the very fabric of day-to-day requires an interdependence that, if we recognize any facet of it as a cold, material exchange, may de-value our relationship in our own eyes.

Taken from ‘Your Money-tude’ in the current issue of ECLIPSE; to see this article or to get the daily forecast (planetary aspects and those of Sedna, Chiron, Vesta, Ceres, Juno, Pallas, and Zeus, as well as most Lunar aspects, too) delivered to your email every Thursday, subscribe!

How to Make It Through the Holidays: Libra

15 Thursday Dec 2011

'Carnival' Tiepolo 1750 {{PD-Art}}

No matter what you do or don’t celebrate, it’s the holiday season–there’s no way to avoid it. In the newsletter I shared a few tongue-in-cheek suggestions for how to survive this annual time of family, food, fights, fun, fruitcake, and all those other ‘f’ words, and I’ll be sharing a little advice for each sign, one at a time. Your Nemesis, listed at the end of the sign, suggests who might be out to sabotage or just give you a hard time, while your angel is the sign energy you can call on in others for assistance, and your personal elf or cherub is the sign energy that will cheer you up and work behind the scenes to make your holiday special. Watch for the rest of the signs during the coming weeks.

Libra  Why is it that half way through the season your graciousness is met with snubs or, worse, rudeness?  After all, you’ve been knocking yourself out creating the just-right holiday atmosphere filled with the just-right mix of people–don’t they know what good taste you have? Of course they do, and it never occurs to you, loving and fair as you are, that others just might feel a teensy bit judged. The late Linda Goodman called your smile one that could “melt a chocolate bar at forty paces” but the thing to remember is, some of us are diabetic, and some of us don’t like the heat, that’s why we’re not in the kitchen. And that brings us to this: Libra, you make everything look so damn easy! and that’s just irritating. You don’t realize that to others, the constant smile and insistence that it’s ‘No trouble at all’ seems like bragging, and again, a little bit of criticism, as in ‘I do it better than you ever could.’ Do you have a delicious aesthetic sense that creates a wonderful experience for others? You do, no doubt. Do you know how to loosen up instead of meeting everything like a protocol droid? No, you really don’t. As with some of the other signs, the way to avoid nastiness this holiday season may be to let them see you sweat, just a little (or should I say ‘glow’?) Establishing that you are indeed made of flesh and bone means you’re much less likely to be the target of someone else’s passive-aggression when they bring their flat little banana bread to the buffet table and the only place to set it is right next to your 3 foot tall marzipan covered replica of Santa’s village. So see? You win anyway. Your Nemesis this holiday season: Virgo, Scorpio, or Aries/ Your secret angel: Gemini/ Your own personal elf or cherub: Aquarius

A Moment of Meditation

Rembrandt Van Rijn ‘The Philosopher in Meditation’ {{PD-Art}} Wikimedia Commons

Though I’ve already covered the Moon’s movement for today (please see previous post), I ran across this and thought it was worth pointing out, as the idea’s timeless: a deliberate, periodic need to remove oneself from the influences of technology, which seems to demand a form of shallow and artificially urgent attention. Astrologer Verena Donath discusses it and shows some of the NYT article here http://verenadonath.wordpress.com/2010/08/16/astro-notes-on-august-16-2010-let-the-light-inspire-you/ Even though this was first posted a couple of days ago, I found it perfect for today, as the mood seems to call for mild, semi-withdrawal from the usual information and technology onslaught.

We’re at the beginning of a dynamic period I’ve already discussed in ECLIPSE that centers on those five Libra energies (Saturn, Vesta, Venus, Mars, and Zeus) and it’s one we should attend to carefully, as it will affect relationships and, for some, artistic and aesthetic expression (the Venus influence)–but it also pulls in the past, rules and boundaries, Self-discipline, and achievement of goals (Saturn) and all of it, relationships, reality, and desires (especially the ambitions and passions–Zeus), will be affected in the extreme by these energies. Understanding, harnessing, and using the push is what this period is all about, and today you may want to take a moment of solitude, a brief time for meditation, that will help you handle the rush of energies, especially in light of the upcoming retrograde of Mercury, which will be even more disorienting than usual (again, see the mag–I’m not a big Self-repeater!) http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/ If you really want a more detailed take on events, it works out to less than $7.00 per month–or browse the blogroll at right for a wide variety of forecasts and opinions!

Also: the Juno book is almost here! I’m getting some beautiful cover art from someone new on the scene, and finishing up on odds and ends, bits and pieces, adding examples that help explain how she works in the chart. Expect it within about 2-3 weeks at most (yes, I’m aware that would put its emergence in the midst of the Merc retro–still haven’t decided if I must avoid it at all costs or not–likely may drag it out to direction)–I’ll keep you updated!

Taking some time today for introspection is truly important–the optimum point might be 12:30 PM-ish today PDT/3:30 PM EDT–in fact, it might be a good idea to dedicate the whole day to deliberateness of Being–movement, thought, attention, choice, intent all becoming very much ‘on purpose.’ Don’t think of it as retreat, and don’t think of it as a patch of time that must be stolen from ‘real’ life–instead, think of it as what it really is, time management in the Universal sense, where we are one with Time and events, where there is complete control and complete submission, creating harmony in perfect proportion and form.

1 March 2010: Expressive Moon

3 AM PST and the Virgo Moon opposes lovely Piscean Venus, suggesting the emotions detach from their relationship roots and sit ‘out there.’ Feelings of alienation, wishing to be part of the larger scene (Pisces), and a too-critical stance toward the love object, one’s finances, or one’s talents is likely. It’s just a blip, so ride it out. By 8 AM PST the Moon opposes Uranus and our attention turns to the group or to expressing our own individuality, but take care; we may be too critical of our own creations and ideas, and we may think the group can’t keep up–and they’ll surprise us. At the same time the Moon squares Ceres, making us feel prickly toward authority and perhaps upsetting digestion and allergies–Mother Nature sees fit to stir up the morning hours (and lots of pollen).

Earth and Moon courtesy of NASA

By 10 AM PST the Virgo Moon quicunxes Neptune, giving us pause and the need to sort real from imaginary (or truth from deceit), and by 11 AM PST the Moon’s quincunx to Chiron says we may be fixed on hurt or on trying to heal. Shortly thereafter the Void begins, and we while away the time until the Moon enters Libra at 4:31 PM PST and immediately sextiles Mars at 00–bam! anger and aggression jump forward in relationships–though exchanges are wreathed in smiles and ‘please’ we will still feel the Martian energy coming at us (of from us). Even those who don’t think they have a beef will become relationship pugilists, and will probably be fighting (irony alert!) in the name of love. And, we won’t be shy about communicating our irritation–Moon quincunxes Mercury–just try to keep us from speaking out!

By 6 PM the Moon is within quincunx to Juno, as well, and that creates a Finger of God with Moon apex and Mercury and Juno as arms. This says that empowerment efforts and communciation issues combine and find expression through feeling–great for jazz musicians, public speakers, fundraisers, and preachers, among others–time communication efforts for this period and ‘impassioned’ will be the word used to describe you.

By 8 PM PST the Moon is tight with Saturn, and since Saturn is in his exaltation in Libra, we might see a need to make emotions manifest (rather than the clamping down on emotion we might otherwise expect). This is a creative aspect we can all take advantage of, if only to translate our emotional needs into an understanding of the kind of environment and relationships we truly require.

3 Feb 2010: The Airy Cardinals Have It

Libra, Moon, My Daily Astrology Diary, the Magazine

The Moon moves through the latter half of Libra today, making a couple of startling (or exciting, or dismaying contacts, depending on your point of view): by 1 PM PST the Moon makes a T-square with the Nodal axis=the emotional perceptions are required to face the implications of the current Path; a square to Mars simultaneous with a trine to Venus and a quincunx to Sedna (3 PM PST)=emotions serve as the impetus to action, which is beneficial in some way, but the circumstances we create may be outside our ken at the moment–we just can’t understand the way this all will play out, or who it may affect; by 10 PM PST a quincunx to Uranus=the temptation to emotional rebellion is present, or we exercise our uniqueness and suffer emotionally because of it, or vice versa, we express emotionally and then find we must adjust in order to remain part of the group, or so that we preserve our true individuality. By 11:30 PM PST the Libra Moon trines Chiron and Neptune; it may be easy to succumb to hurt or delusion, especially in relationship–or we can be proactive (the Moon is in a Cardinal sign, after all) and put skills and imagination to work. With this aspect it’s very much a choice of approach that will make the difference–the key is a willingness to be responsible–then everything else falls into place.

Probably a Libra lady, 15th century {{PD-Art}}

If you’re heavy in the Cardinals, or have a lot of Air (myself, guilty on both counts) the day appears to hold interesting developments, so smooth and natural feeling that it’s difficult to say whether or not they’ll be of major impact; things might just move along at a good clip, with lots of action and mental activity. For everyone else, the trends are a grab-bag, largely filled with the same energies that have been around for some time now, punched up with impacts to the natal chart. The Moon begins her Void at 1:28 AM PST on the 4th, at which time we would be wise to retreat temporarily, let go the reins, and allow things to take their course.

Today’s Link: Mandi offers an account of Void-of-Course Moons for the month, and also a succinct and well-stated description of the meaning of the recent Leo/ Aquarius Moon activity http://mandilockley.blogspot.com/

2 Feb 2010: The Wisdom of Saturn

01 Monday Feb 2010

Juno, Libra, Moon, My Daily Astrology Diary, Nodal Axis, Saturn, T-square

At 5:42 AM PST the Moon enters Libra and rushes to meet Saturn–why? She has no choice, and neither do we–by noon PST they’re solidly together, and we’re sensing ourselves suppressing feeling in relationship–and this is probably for the best, as the Moon will be square Pluto (like you didn’t see that coming!) inclining us to be destructive, either from resistance to change or from insistence on it, and the Moon has just made a quincunx to Jupiter in Pisces–and it’s likely that something in our social circle, or the Collective at large, has rubbed us the wrong way. We may not even be conscious of this, thanks to the Moon’s unconscious function, but we’ll certainly do the human thing and channel our irritation into the nearest outlet–which may be a relationship–and so we should, for once, thank Saturn for offering to put a lid on it, with the soon-to-follow sextile to Mars (6:30 PM-ish) keeping us more than ready to express ourselves throughout the day–and as we’ve seen, what we’re inclined to share is, for the moment, better kept to ourselves.

At around 9 PM PST the Moon slips into the midpoint of Saturn and Zeus, all three in Libra. This is a time when we have an excellent chance to balance our ambitions and desire nature with both the reality of our lives and our own cautious inclinations, all done through the emotions–specifically through reflection on our own emotional perceptions, especially as they come to our realization through relationships (Libra).

During the wee hours of the 3rd PST, the Moon moves on to conjunct Zeus–for those of us who are up at this time, no matter where we are on the globe, the emotions may feel a surge of Will, a forward-pushing wave where we may be tempted to assert ourselves guided by our own wants and feelings–just make sure that the emotional framework used is the most positive available–Self interests justified by unacknowledged need, anger, or other ‘unacceptable’ feelings may work against us, in the end, and bring about nothing so much as a tangle we’ll have to work hard to extricate ourselves from.

Though here in the daily astro diary I’ll concentrate on the Moon and her movements (other material on aspects, and emphasizing the asteroids, is available in the magazine at http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/eclipse-in-depth-astrology-for-the-21st-century/ along with this quarter’s other in-depth topics: Zeus theories examined in real-life examples, chart interceptions and their hidden meanings, and the historical perspective on two of England’s most memorable queens, sisters whose interaction holds a puzzle of its own), I’ll include occasional aspects here that catch my eye, such as the Juno exact T-square with the Nodal axis active now–this suggests we’ll be testing our own empowerment as it affects our life direction. We may hesitate, as we draw from the past and feel cautious, unwilling to risk upsetting the direction in which we’re moving; for others this same blast from the past will bring a surety from experience that propels us toward our goals. For all of us it will likely be a time of measuring how empowered we dare be in the face of all that our course demands, and is certainly a test of what we are willing to open ourselves to.

Today’s Link: much more to ponder on the recent eclipse and the rhythm of the Moon and Sun http://laurenlesko.com/9752#more-9752

Thanks, and have a great day!
