The 10th Is A Good Day To . . . let go of two things: illusions you carry about Love or Money, and thinking that arises from a wounded perspective. Both need to be done in service to a better tomorrow–the implication being that not doing one or both may result in a true relationship or financial crisis, or a line of reasoning that prompts some really poor decisions. How best to do this? Some hints to get you started: be as honest with yourself as possible about what’s actually gone down in the past, and about what you really want in your future–telling yourself tales about these, though soothing now, will put you in a bad spot in the weeks and months to come; be sensitive to others, especially if that’s not your usual style–the Moon in Cancer squaring Mercury in Libra today asks that you think about others’ feelings as much as your own, but communications must be clear and honest, without a hint of passive-aggression or ulterior, manipulative intent; and note that Merc is currently opposed Chiron and in about two days will quincunx Uranus, suggesting that communications that are driven by hurt or meant to wound will generate shocking or surprising events or accidents that will then require ‘clean-up’–so do your best to face relationships and financial matters head-on, and keep communications clear, clean, and rooted in the Truth.

A Good Day To . . . is based on the aspects perfecting on each day, Pacific time.

By Édouard Manet Probably c1860s {{PD}}

The New Moon perfects at 10:31 AM PDT at 28 Cancer 26, sesquiquadrate Ceres, opposed Saturn which is closely conjoined the Earth, and forming the base to a Finger of God by sextile to Sedna in Taurus with an apex of the South Node in Sagittarius. We’re offered a fresh emotional slate with this event, but the question is, is it a clean emotional slate? That is, is the viewpoint and agenda devoid of baggage, free of old aversions and biases, and so truly based in what we care about at this moment, at this point in time?

Well, we’re human, so gaining such a blank, unburdened emotional outlook as adults is unlikely. Instead, we are probably going to discover we care about one or more ‘new’ things or areas in life related to matters of the natal House that contains Cancer or that holds the natal Moon. What we care about, though, will be inextricably linked to the actual current reality picture and material situation (probably as it relates to those natal Cancer/ Moon placements). With the involvement of both Ceres and the Moon, the theme of mother or nurturing will likely be prominent, specifically through a lens of the kinds of power that accrue to someone who carries responsibilities, or who becomes responsible for someone or something else. Our interest may arise from or show us the difficulty of our own or someone in authority’s power position, and out of this, triggered by this Moon event, we’ll see our own instinctual responses and/ or our ‘blind spot’ material brought forward in such a way that we create a version of the past.

Often when we see something referring to the past being re-created in the present, we’re inclined to freak out. We don’t want to go ‘backward’, or at least don’t want to move toward something we think is regressive. This time, though, there’s no need. The past in this instance refers to something learned from experience, something that spurred the widening of our world or our viewpoint, that introduced us to something ‘foreign’ but exciting and expansive, something that helped us reach out and become a part of the wider world. The experience we had then can inform the experience we have now, and that’s a good thing, a refresher directly from the Universe that shows us how we’ve grown, and re-asserts the means by which we did–and in the process challenges us now to use a similar experience or method to foster growth once again.

The Temple of Zeus at Cuma. Photo By Bobbylamouche at French Wikipedia https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=1643589

The Sabian for this Moon event features an odd cross between Libran and Gemini-themed symbology: ‘A Greek Muse Weighing Newborn Twins In Golden Scales’. What do those astro symbols relate back to? The Air element, Gemini the twins and Libra the scales, which is essentially missing from the active Cardinal energies of the current sky in the form of a relatively empty Libra. Major energies fill the other Cardinal signs, but Libra holds only Juno and Zeus–and though Juno is precisely opposed Mars in his own sign of Aries, formidable as she is, the Queen of Olympus is no match for the Warrior, at least as they represent major energies within the psychic pantheon for the individual. The Mars-Juno match-up shows us how our Will, Self-interest, choices, and actions (Mars in Aries) have put us into specific empowerment venues and roles, ones that involve cooperation or aesthetics (Juno in Libra), but these aren’t integrated into the New Moon picture, leaving the energies to ‘dangle’ without potential for resolution.

Too, the fact that those scales are described as “Golden” implies a certain purity or high value–that is, what’s missing is as important as what’s present and active, in reading this image.

There is also the matter of ‘A Greek Muse’. I’m inclined to see that in this instance (in the New Moon snapshot of the sky) as pointing us toward Libra once again–in this case, toward the only body I’m currently using that carries a Greek, as opposed to Roman, name: Zeus, which sits at 19 Libra 58, closely opposed the Black Moon Lilith point in Aries and square the midpoint and each of Pallas-Jupiter in Capricorn, and also square Vesta in Cancer–creating a completed Cardinal Cross (as opposed to the Cardinal opposition formed by the New Moon-Sun opposite Earth-Saturn).

The Cardinal opposition emphasized the material/ physical experience, especially the barriers we face or the issues that limit us (Earth-Saturn) that will be illuminated/ triggered/ will generate new attitudes of caring, nurture, and concern (NM in Cancer). The factor of Time (Saturn), and what we’ve learned in the past or from its passage, is also vital to the equation.

The Sabian, then, may provide information that the initial aspect picture only hinted at. A Cardinal Cross is an action plan, a dynamic roadmap of what is in play–and knowing what’s in play automatically offers us answers about how to handle it. Our ambition and desire picture, particularly as it’s expressed through cooperative arrangements, partnerships, and the Arts (Zeus in Libra) is triggered by the friction provided by all that we’ve ignored, denied, or that has enraged us about ourselves (Black Moon Lilith in Aries), and this in turn prompts application of our highest standards and values, an assessment of and re-affirmation of our commitments and what we honor (Vesta in Cancer), and what comes from this tension are smart and practical opportunities to make solid, concrete responses (Pallas-Jupiter in Capricorn) to the issues before us.

The New Moon picture turns out, after careful consideration, to be much more personal, and much more focused on the individual initiative and perceptions, than it seemed at first glance. The action, then, is largely on the inside, though certainly, how we feel (Cancer) about our surroundings and material circumstances (Earth-Saturn) and the ways they restrict, hedge us in, help us build, or restrain us (Capricorn) will be the trigger for it all.

Solar Eclipse 20 June 2020 Healthy Emotion

By Asurnipal – Own work, CC BY-SA 4.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=38597398

The Solar eclipse begins at 11:41 PM PDT of the 20th at 00 Cancer 21, and even stretching our modest orbs only shows two closer contacts, a conjunction with asteroid Hygeia, and a to-the-degree quincunx with Saturn in Aquarius. We might also want to note a wide square with Mars in Pisces, important for several reasons: Mars is uncomfortable in a Water sign, and perhaps doubly so when there are no clear boundaries between ‘I’ and ‘the Universe’; because of this discomfort, the vast majority of us are aware (even if unconsciously) of the rub between Mars’ usual assertiveness and the nebulous atmosphere in which it’s trying to operate currently; and, by early September, Mars will retrograde (which happens every 2 1/2 years), this time in his own sign of Aries, which may add to disorientation: we reach ‘home’ in the ‘I Am’ and assertive energies, only to have the rug pulled from under us in future as all indicators are full steam ahead and yet we find ourselves thwarted, delayed, and prone to question ourselves once the retro begins–so an added disorientation ahead that may feel inexplicable and could hearken back, energy-wise, to the current Piscean state–all this making notation of the potential for Mars’ eclipse activation necessary.

The aspect picture suggests the eclipse births an individual awareness of the emotional impact of the state of ‘health’ to every facet of our lives. Problems in the functionality and health of any area now come forward, showing us where and in what form the dissonance disrupts our efforts, our ability to move forward, and our egos. It’s an event wherein the real-world scenario is presenting needed areas of adjustment, as well as pointing out where and why we may find externals holding us back. We may rebel at that, insisting modification isn’t necessary–the ego may be in direct conflict with what the eclipse reveals–but we’d be wise to note what we’re shown; the eclipse offers realistic, Higher Mind clarity–all we need do is be open to our own feeling nature as it supplies plenty of motivation and guidance for adjustment, alteration, and change.

The eclipse falls at one of the Cardinal ‘starting points’, emphasizing the ‘clean sweep’ nature of the event as well as the seminal quality of what occurs; more is birthed with this New Moon than we are able to grasp, or even that we’re immediately aware of. Add to this that the eclipse falls on the solstice (but here I have to say the meaning is symbolic, as the actual ‘longest day of the year’ can vary by up to a couple of days either side of the event as measured at the equator, depending on your location north, with this also marking the shortest day, with those same variations, for those in the Southern Hemisphere). So, we combine a New Moon eclipse at a 00 zodiacal degree with the symbolic extreme of a Solstice, and we get a strong sense of new, new, and new, especially the individual emotional interpretation of the landscape–and that suggests revelations around our genuine feelings. Even the most aware of us are likely to be unprepared for the impact of our discoveries, of the emotions we may not even have realized we have, of the feelings that have been unconscious and so underlying so much of our reactions and motivations.

It’s always a good thing to see how we actually feel, even when we’re not happy with the revelations. As humans we typically avoid knowing much of what we feel, because if our true emotional state were revealed to us, it would in many instances demand we do something about the circumstances that generate those feelings–and that may threaten much of what we have (often precariously) managed to find a balance point for in our lives.

The personal flag, an announcement of our allegiances, may change with this eclipse. By Claude Monet 1878 {{PD}}

The Sabian symbol for the eclipse is, ‘On A Ship The Sailors Lower An Old Flag And Raise A New One’. A flag is a symbol of allegiance; this symbol suggests ours will change. This may signal that eclipse events may move us to make public what has to now either been only known unconsciously or held as private. There is the chance that we simply replace old alignments with a new version of the same–but that’s not likely, considering the tone of the eclipse is one of revealed emotions. It’s most definitely a time to let our Freak Flags Fly–and to allow ourselves a freedom of expression that accepts our most unusual feelings and characteristics–and because we care (Cancer eclipse placement) this can be nothing but good.

I may be taking a few days off post-eclipse–it falls in my 6th, squares my Mercury, sextiles my Pluto, trines my Neptune, and so reaches into my 2nd, 5th, 8th, and 10th, so calls for some examination of the creative, earning, career, and cooperative energies currently in play. Orders will still get filled and I’ll still answer comments. Thanks for your patience, and have a wonderful and enlightening eclipse!

By Hjboyd – Own work, {{PD}} https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=5385599

The 26th is a Good Day To . . . question the way we’re being questioned! It seems both circumstances and others are quizzing us (and this may be verbal or non-verbal, delivered in looks, actions, circumstances, conditions, or gestures, as well as words) about our health practices, our rights, our most original or unique expressions, our choices and what we do based on our highest values, our autonomy, and what we are and are not willing to communicate–so, essentially, giving us the once-over as if Self-determination and a modicum of privacy aren’t something each individual automatically deserves in this life. How to tell if someone else is overstepping? If our choice genuinely impacts them, then we need to consider what they’re telling us; if there’s no impact other than a perceptual one, then their criticisms become their problem, not yours. Take care today–there are little things like Mars semi-sextile Chiron, Mercury quincunx Zeus, and the Nodes just entered the Sagittarius-Gemini axis at 29 tense degrees that are making everyone unnecessarily prickly, giving a sort of sense that ‘assault is in the air’–and with the Moon in Cancer we could at times feel like unprotected amoebas, with thin cell walls that are ultra-permeable and through which we feel everything! Do your best not to overreact–for at least a few of us, this could even be life-or-death important, so mingle, commune, and communicate with care, my friends.

A Good Day To . . . is based on the aspects perfecting on each day, Pacific time.

‘The Temple of Vesta and the Falls at Tivoli’ By William Callow 1859 {{PD}}

Sometimes we find that with an event we must loosen our orbs in order to get a picture of what’s going on; in my view this lends the whole thing a subtler influence, making a softer impact in the life, or maybe making the kind of difference we don’t really comprehend until later, as other things unfold and make the event (or point in time) results apparent. This is the case for the Total Solar eclipse at 10 Cancer 37, starting at 12:16 PM PDT of the 2nd. There’s only one close contact, and that’s to an asteroid, a sextile to Vesta, right away signalling that what happens at this time will (gently) wipe out or otherwise alter something we care about, something we are dedicated to, or will in some way offer us something new to honor, or bring us something new, a cause or mission or ideal or even a partner with which to merge, that sets us on a new path, or that changes the direction of the one we’re traveling now.

The eclipse also forms a semi-square to Hygeia, suggesting that through some tough but minor changes we create something a lot more healthy for us. With generous orbs, we get a T-square with Pallas as arm to the Sun-Moon opposed Earth axis, bringing a challenge: what happens at this time may conflict with what we consider wise or practical, or may point out we don’t have the skills we think we do. That can be a bitter pill, but as the aspect to Hygeia points out, swallowing it is actually to our benefit.

The eclipse also forms a loose trine to Black Moon Lilith, pinpointing the eclipse energies as able to easily deal with what we’ve ignored or denied, or what has angered us; we have the emotional strength at this time to face what we otherwise look away from, and that’s a gift we should accept.

There’s also another T-square with an arm of Chiron (which is NOT opposed Pallas–the orb is just too big–so no possibility of a Grand Square/ Grand Cross). This again points us toward the need to heal ourselves (Chiron in Aries), perhaps through hewing more closely to what we truly care about, rather than through some image we may have been trying to perpetuate that just isn’t really us.

The Sabian symbol for the Solar eclipse is, ‘A Clown Caricaturing Well-Known Personalities’. This suggests deliberate mimicry, the kind that could be perceived as part of the individual’s role. What role are we playing, job doing, persona-wearing, that has us behaving as someone else? This Solar eclipse may be a call to seek out the ungenuine that we carry and let it go; this meshes perfectly with the sextile to Vesta that offers a gentle boost toward being more closely aligned with our own deepest feelings, interests, passions, and to give our energy to what really matters to us. It may also point out that doing things or meeting life in the ‘style’ of others is a bit ridiculous, casting us as unreal (clownish) in the way we come across or in the things we apply, as they’re most suitable to others. This might be an especially important message for those who’ve been trying to succeed in some area that hasn’t gone as well as they’d like–it may be there’s a need to recognize that impersonation will never make us into someone we’re not.

The New Moon eclipse offers a re-dedication or a new dedication, a chance to commit to something we care about, to something we love, and to do so in a state that is more genuine to our Soul’s intents–and that sounds like it’s only for the good, to me.

Scroll down for the forecast for July 1.

Happy Birthday, you. ‘Cakes’ 1963 By Pplachigo Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported

For those born with the Sun at 10 Cancer. Check your natal chart for the correct Sun degree (you may want to read both the degree number and the one that follows, if you have minutes on your Sun position–together these offer a more complete picture of your year ahead). Dear Cancer, halfway through the solar year to your next birthday, you may feel burned down to a nub, as if it’s all gone, even to the point of wondering what it’s all for. This can be a purely interior condition, though it’s possible one or more of the things you care about will transform and fall away, but in any case may be a difficult emotional journey, initially. Look ahead, though: by late in the calendar year, you will likely see a major re-birth in yourself, a serious new cause or affection that may completely re-build or re-order your world. Not an easy time, but if you always keep what you truly are dedicated to in the foreground, you won’t let go of anything that truly matters to you, and you’ll shape a whole new emotional outlook in the process. Good luck!

The Eclipses of July-August 2018

Here are the general forecasts for the eclipse set coming late this summer. Notice that the first two seem strongly connected; I fully expect events around the initial Solar one to lead directly to the events of the Full Lunar one that follows at the end of July.

The Partial Solar eclipse of 12 July 2018 (7:48 PM PDT) falls at 20 Cancer 41 as the Moon, Earth, and Sun align on the same plane, allowing the Moon to ‘eclipse’ the normally dominant Sun at their New Moon meeting. This event also sees Earth, which of course is always opposed the Sun, conjoined Pluto, making its opposition to the New Moon eclipse the centerpiece of the aspect picture; asteroid Zeus forms a T-square with the Sun-Moon-Earth-Pluto axis, and Ceres is semi-square the New Moon. A Solar eclipse, this one in Water, is a new beginning, and that can come gently, like a tide lapping at the shore, or fiercely, like a wave crashing on the beach—but in either case, it brings change, which may slowly pull the sand from beneath your feet, can knock those feet out from under you, and/ or could even wipe the landscape clean in a tsunami, leaving you in an entirely new place. Change, then, is expected, and with Pluto opposed the event and conjoined the Earth, the very ground on which we walk, we may want to be highly attentive to the mix of Water and Earth, emotion and the material, flow and static states, in our world.

This event in a Water sign also emphasizes the emotional component eclipses already carry, as they are mainly Lunar events, with the Moon playing the pivotal role, either in blocking the Sun’s light from us (a Solar eclipse) or acting as the screen on which we observe the blocking of the light (by the Earth, as it moves between Moon and Sun) in a Lunar eclipse. This Solar eclipse event doubles down on the emotional, psychological, and intuitive potentials, making us all naturally hyper-sensitive to the atmosphere around the New Moon. Symbolically this speaks of, in the case of a Solar eclipse, emotions themselves causing a blockage between the material world (Earth) and ‘What Is’, including purpose and intent (the Sun). The block is meant as a disruptor, a point at which the usual view just can’t be adopted, as the light in which we view things is suddenly radically different. We keep this in mind as we look at the particulars of any eclipse event, as consciousness about the larger scenario illuminates the smaller details of the single occurrence.

Here we have the sheer power of Pluto aligned with Earth—and of course this kind of aspect always makes me think of earthquakes or volcanoes—most likely of a personal, symbolic nature, and this directly opposes the meeting of Sun and Moon on the ecliptic, so that we have Earth-Pluto, a material or physical power situation, that is receiving no light, as the Moon prevents it. That suggests that at or following the eclipse we face a real-world challenge that we’re prevented from understanding by our own emotional response.

Too, the challenge puts us in a spot: not only is our authority to respond at issue (Ceres), but we see conflicts with our goals, ambitions, and/ or desires (Zeus). The Sabian symbol for the eclipse is, ‘A Famous Singer Is Proving Her Virtuosity During An Operatic Performance’. This not only speaks of the individual need to express ourselves in a way most characteristic of us as unique individuals—to ‘sing out’—with the eclipse challenge one of performance: show us your stuff! In the context of the eclipse, what we see is that the ability to convey who we are, our strongest and most authoritative identity (Ceres) expressed in an earthly venue (Earth-Pluto) is endangered by our extreme emotional response (the eclipse), which blocks an objective assessment of the situation.

The Earth moves, and we react—and that stops a clear understanding of what’s actually happening, and so of knowing what’s actually affected. The change that happens here is serious, but not necessarily permanent; we may do best to see it more as inevitable reform, events or revelations that present us with personal power and ‘territory’ issues we hadn’t yet faced, and conflicts with ambition fulfillment we hadn’t yet acknowledged. Taking that tack tells us that what elicits our emotional reaction at the eclipse could’ve been anticipated, if we’d realized the extent to which these matters, goal achievement and our power reach, needed our attention to begin with.

The Total Lunar eclipse of 27 July 2018 (1:19 PM PDT) falls at 4 Aquarius 44, forming just after contact to, and still within orb of, a retrograde Mars; the Full Moon is also in wide sextile to Chiron and wide square to Uranus, with the latter, ruler of the eclipse itself, forming a T-square with the Sun-Earth-Moon-Mars axis. The only other aspect made is a sesquiquadrate to Venus in Virgo. A Lunar eclipse is a Full Moon, and this one occurs in the crisp, intellectually-oriented, forward-thinking sign of Aquarius, suggesting the event delivers revelation or understanding. Since it’s conjoined Mars, what appears could be the consequences of our own choices or actions, as instituted at the inception point of the previous Solar eclipse/ New Moon, or it could be that what we come to understand drives a current choice or action, with consequences still to be seen. That preceding Moon opposed Pluto, suggesting a power situation revealed, and this Full Moon may be the personal response to it, something driven by our intellectualization of the events that we then act on or choose according to, as we see the outcome of the New Moon start.

The results as manifested at this Lunar eclipse point have the potential for wounding or for calling forth skills (Chiron), but in either instance they show the need to express the individuality, or to accede to the group (Uranus), and all of this is likely spurred by difficulties surrounding relationships, finances, or Self-worth (Venus).

The Full Moon Sabian is, ‘A Council Of Ancestors Is Seen Implementing The Efforts Of A Young Leader’. This suggests that the authority and experience of those who came before plays a vital role in showing us which direction to take; that is, we learn from the past, especially from the experiences of others, appropriate considering eclipses always fall near the Nodal axes, with this Lunar one conjoined the South Node.

Since this eclipse seems so directly connected to the one preceding it, we’ll forgo our usual inspection of the Sun’s Sabian for a Full Moon, since in this case our ‘source’ is the New Moon that came two weeks before. Instead we move on to the next and final component of this eclipse set, the Solar eclipse in Leo.

The Partial Solar eclipse in Leo falls at 18 degrees, 41 minutes on August 11th at 2:57 AM PDT. This event is conjoined Pallas—ah! ‘new wisdom’ is the result of the past two events—with the aspects offering a subtle picture of what it is we’ve gained. A new start in Leo is about ourselves and our identity, and those facets of the individuality that allow us to ‘shine’; the aspects made by the eclipse describe the nature of our attributes, the ways in which we can make our uniqueness known. What begins at this time also has an air of the practical about it, or a sense of skills possessed—but no matter what, a situation that allows us to be our Best Self.

The eclipse-Pallas sextiles Zeus and catches Ceres at the midpoint, even as it semi-squares Venus. This suggests that it’s in the act of reaching for ambition or desire fulfillment that we both gain authority and power and learn what needs to change in relationships or finances in order to make ‘it’ happen. Should we count this as base to a Finger of God, with a loose Neptune apex? Maybe, if we consider that what we likely need to do to fine-tune the ambition picture is rid ourselves of delusions, or utilize our creativity—that’s what can make the whole thing work together.

The eclipse is also apex to a loose Fist of God with base of Saturn and Chiron, and quincunxes Pluto. As apex, the eclipse promises that resolution of conflicts between the reality picture or reasonable restraints applied to our effort, and our own skill set or wounded nature (the latter possibly referring to unreasonable restraints that need removal), offers a ‘New You’, a  fresh expression of identity or purpose, and that this is also an expression of our own wisdom and gifts (Pallas). The contact to Pluto simply tells us adjustment is needed, whether we want to gather power, make a change, eliminate, or transform.

There’s also an Earth Grand Trine that hooks into the eclipse by degree: Ceres (semi-sextile), Pluto (quincunx), and Juno (square). This implies the eclipse may be a spark of sorts, putting into motion material matters that, one and all, are concerned with power and power expression. No matter what else is in play at this time, this Grand Trine reminds us that there are some very real material stakes here, and that even the most innocent of moves holds an ultimate goal of gaining or solidifying the ability to make the individual Will felt and impactful.

If we really want to get loose with things, we can also see that the T-square formed by Juno’s hard angle to the axis  becomes a Grand Cross if we pull Jupiter into the equation. This may remind us that individual development doesn’t happen in a vacuum; others to whom we reach out, look for reactions and interactions, and to get a measure of our own empowerment are part of the picture, and must be taken into account, especially when we think about how beliefs, knowledge, and the capacity to reach out and to accept what we consider ‘foreign’ all shape not just our potentials for success, but our view of our own adequacy, as well.

The Sabian symbol for this New Moon eclipse in Leo is, ‘A Houseboat Party’. That promises a celebration, once we’ve dealt with anything that’s not working on our path forward to Self-expression—but we should also note the party of the image is afloat—that is, hovering on the surface of the water, the symbol of feeling. That tells us that beneath the joy engendered by successful realization of our gifts, skills, and most unique qualities lies a body of emotion, one that it’s entirely possible to sink into, even to lose our joy to. That implies that after this sequence of eclipses we might have a whole new set of emotions to explore—and maybe entirely new feelings related to how we see ourselves (Leo).

William Stott of Oldham. ‘The Birth of Venus’ 19th century {{PD}}

The Full Moon of the 1st at 11 Cancer 37 at 6:23 PM Pacific time doesn’t make many close aspects, though it does form a Water Grand Trine with Neptune and Mars; the Full Moon also opposes Sun-Venus, which are heading toward Superior Conjunction, and which during that period (5th-9th, roughly) will pass together over Pluto. This Sun-Venus circumstance-to-come only figures in as it alerts us to potential responses to Full Moon events–and it could be that the Full Moon itself acts as a pre-echo, a harbinger of what the Sun-Venus situation will bring, likely involving changes to the valuing of the identity, to the sense of Self-Love, to the concept of what assets we possess, both literally and in the form of talents and abilities; or, Pluto may contribute transformation energy, a kind of nuclear blast that sends change out in incontestable ripples, or it could bring about shifts in Sun-Venus through an experience with Power–and this all kicked off by a Lunar completion, finish, realization, or ending, one that anticipates some entré to the Sun-Venus-Pluto effect via the developments of the Full Moon.

And what are those? They will concentrate largely in a re-balancing of effort/ Will and the creative urge. We may see where we need to do more, where to apply our creative ideas, how to facilitate those things that so far have dwelt only in the imagination–and we do this through feeling (Cancer, the Moon, Water GT) as it can be materialized (Moon’s conjunction to Earth). The most useful result may be that we will see exactly how to make what has remained nebulous or a mere creative notion into a materialization of emotion, in essence a felt event or object, an expression of what we care about, something that encapsulates a personal emotional Truth.

‘The Pearls of Aphrodite’ Herbert James Draper 1907 {{PD}}

The opposition to Sun-Venus simply points to the future, to the alteration (as the two move over Pluto) of our Self-concept and/ or our asset picture, changing it in response to what we do or create at the Full Moon. We create the image of ourselves by what we create! Simple and confusing, all at once.

Are there dangers here? Of course–they are Martian: the ego can overwhelm, aggression can take hold, or illusion can drive a less-than-productive course–and yet, it’s all useful, in that we will be allowed to refine our efforts, to see more clearly how to make the world in the image we prefer–so even disappointing results can show us the way.

The Sabian for this Full Moon is, ‘A Chinese Woman Nursing A Baby Whose Aura Reveals Him To Be The Reincarnation Of A Great Teacher’. With this image we see Universal recognition of the advanced spirit, of the ‘teachers’ we all encounter, no matter what form they take, whether they be individuals, institutions, or events; that is, if we look we can see what can guide us, what holds worth, what will advance our own spirit–it simply requires willingness to see, something we aren’t always open to.

For a Full Moon we also look at the Sun’s Sabian: ‘An Illustrated Lecture On Natural Science Reveals Little-Known Aspects Of Life’. Again, if we are willing to see (or listen, in the spiritual sense–‘an illustrated lecture’) what we might otherwise (incorrectly) refer to as ‘the secrets of Life’ will be revealed (incorrect because there are no secrets, not really)–and again, all it takes is intention to see, is willingness to let go of illusion.

The New Moon in Cancer falls at 7:31 PM PDT at 2 Cancer 47. We’re in the wake of Neptune’s retrograde, Jupiter’s direction, and the Superior Conjunction–so where are we? With Mercury separating from Solar contact, heading deeper into the sign they share, we may see conscious contemplation receding, replaced with feeling (Cancer); we may also be so preoccupied with our beliefs, with the social sphere, or with absorbing and handling ‘the facts’ that we lose forward momentum on ‘the Dream’. The music of the spheres is muted right now, in favor of sensation and caring, especially caring about what and who we nurture.

Caught at the midpoint of Vesta-Venus, the New Moon perfectly expresses the conflict between these two. What we dedicate our life energy to (Vesta) is in conflict with what we want, treasure, and desire, in areas of relationship and finance. How, you may wonder, could there be upset when the focus comes through us, through our values and what we want to have in our lives? The answer to that is, we carry conflicting inclinations within ourselves, and this New Moon shows us those conflicts, laying open the difficulties and making it apparent we must find a new way to reconcile disparities or contradictions between matters we care about. What starts at the New Moon points out the ways in which we carry internal disharmony in our wants, our interactions, and those matters where we earn and spend, with this latter including the spending of life energy. The new Moon says, You’ve got the facts (direct Jupiter), your vision is clear (Neptune retro), you’ve seen the result of thinking up to now (Superior Conjunction), now it’s time to sort out what’s not working in matters of energy dedication (to causes, efforts, projects, or people–the Venus-Vesta square, with NM at the midpoint).

The New Moon is also in wide conjunction to Merc (which as mentioned is speeding ‘ahead’ of the Sun) and wide square to Chiron, neither of which I would normally consider for a New Moon event–they’re just a smidge too wide in orb–and yet today we don’t have many contacts, so must stretch a tad, if only to get the flavor at play during such an isolated (contact wise) occurrence as this New Moon. We’ve already discussed the importance of the recent Superior Conjunction, and know how important what we’ve been thinking is to this NM event; what we’ve not touched on is the square to Chiron, which suggests that if we’re looking for the origins of our internal discord, it’s to be found in our wounds. When considering our relationships, our finances, and our commitments of time and energy, we are being too reactionary, asserting and responding from our sense of hurt, from the level of woundedness we carry around each subject.

‘Sami on skis in northern lights’, Frants Bøe 1885 {{PD}}

The Sabian for the New Moon is, ‘A Man Bundled In Fur Leads A Shaggy Deer’. For the Lapplanders, to which this image likely refers, the reindeer is a source of sustenance, aids in transportation, and provides a great deal of the material for survival, for living. That sounds like what the New Moon will make clear for each of us: what we care about, what’s important, but most vitally, what we need to survive, in terms of Love, the material world, and our own dedication of energy (and we must keep in mind that what we give the world is equally as important as what we get from it). This also emphasizes something we might otherwise dismiss as a lesser concern; that is, we might be tempted to see Love, or Money, or the material world, or what we give our energy, attention, and resources to, as a little Self-centered, as not carrying the weight of the spiritual or the eternal. That would be a mistaken viewpoint, as the Sabian tells us that these are matters on which our survival depends.

Other influences for the day include the ego, which may go out on a limb in order to prove it doesn’t need help from anyone, thank you (this might be in direct response to an offer of cooperation or support), and we may spend some time weighing the real costs of ambition or desire fulfillment–obviously, make sure it’s worth it, before you go forward (the New Moon will help with this immensely). This New Moon helps us find our ‘True North’–don’t be surprised if you learn a thing or two, even about yourself, in the waxing moonlight.

Read —  Donate  —  and Happy New Moon! The forecast for the rest of the coming week will be posted sometime on the 22nd Pacific time.

John William Waterhouse - 'The Decameron' c1915 {{PD}}

One thing I’m not crazy about with this picture is the way the women all seemed to be enthralled with the lone man–a discarded instrument even sits next to one, suggesting they’re all taking a passive approach to things, putting aside their interests–let’s not let this be the reality, ladies! John William Waterhouse – ‘The Decameron’ c1915 {{PD}}

The AstroEssence: We have the resources to make dreams and ideals a reality–the question is, are we really willing to ‘spend’ them on our supposed dreams? This may bring a reality check of the kind that forces us to vet what we have been proclaiming we want–a ‘put our money where our mouth is’ moment–and should we discover we are unwilling to part with assets to back up our words or announced goals, we should celebrate it as a moment of true clarity, a chance to course-correct, to align our internal image with our actual manifestation of identity. We are likely to see that some of our priorities and commitments are actually unhealthy, and we begin thinking in concrete, practical, even hard-headed terms. It may be a rough ride for those who want to keep pretending they will become something they have no intention of actually investing in, but the rest of us can be free of old labels, and of the internal distortions created when we fool ourselves in an attempt to fool others. PS Chances of being fooled as to the actual state of relationships or finances is high, but so is the chance to profit from the creative or to spin an image of ourselves as Love or Money manifest (whether this is accurate or not) (Vesta sesq Hygeia, Venus conj Neptune, Mercury enters Capricorn)

full-moon-in-cancer-january-2017The Full Moon occurs at 3:34 AM of the 12th Pacific time at 22 Cancer 27, where it fills in as the arm of a Cardinal Grand Cross, with Jupiter-Zeus on one end and Uranus-Ceres on the other, with the opposition of the Sun filling in and inviting Pluto (despite the fact that the lord of the Underworld sees the Sun separating from contact). In other aspects we’ll keep our orbs crisp, with a quincunx to Saturn-Juno and a trine to Chiron. The config is dynamic, tense, but fueled by spontaneity, optimism, desire, an awareness of the fulsome presence of Nature (and Her unpredictability), and a consciousness that sees the need for change, destruction, and in some cases, transformation, in the name of renewal, and especially in terms of those who hold the Power. The Full Moon event should bring a culmination of energies that most likely sees a conclusion reached, spurred by changes in the reality picture and our awareness of it, and all of it based in what we care about, what we’re sensitive to (Moon in Cancer) and how this can mesh with real-world conditions and circumstances (Sun in Capricorn).

This brings healing (the Chiron trine) and forces us to adjust to the real-world state of our empowerment (quincunx Saturn-Juno)–fantasies will no longer do, echoing the other aspects for the day unrelated to the Full Moon. The Cross itself brings opportunity for ambition fulfillment and the need to balance this with our own unique needs within the power structure/ Nature, with what we care about, and with the conscious knowledge that certain facets of the reality picture (and possibly the emotional one) must change, in some stark and significant way.

Just maybe we may also want to consider a loose Water Grand Trine involving the Moon-Earth meeting reaching out to Chiron in Pisces and Black Moon Lilith in Scorpio. This hints at healing through balance that allows emotional acknowledgment of matters previously hidden, denied, or that enraged. The essence of many of the aspects for today and for the Full moon seems to hinge on successfully allowing two at least somewhat contradictory or unalike forces to meet, and from that meeting finding equilibrium; just something to keep in mind going forward.

The Sabian for the Full Moon is, ‘The Meeting Of A Literary Society’. This symbol speaks of the coming together of minds, to consider ideas expressed in a concrete form, in this case, in writing–and in a twist, this could specifically apply to contracts, as a meeting of the minds is the primary condition for the formation of such agreements. This suggests the Full Moon events express a material or manifest form of one or more ideas, allowing them to be vetted in the real world. Though the environment for inspection is a civilized one, what results may not be quite so, as the inclusion of Pluto, Zeus, and Uranus in the Full Moon picture suggests some extreme passions and unpredictable alternatives may suddenly be on the table, pushing the feeling nature (Moon in Cancer) to extremes and/ or draw conclusions.

Edgar Degas - 'Achille De Gas in the Uniform of a Cadet' c1856 {{PD}}

Edgar Degas – ‘Achille De Gas in the Uniform of a Cadet’ c1856 {{PD}}

The Sabian for the Sun, instigator of the Full Moon phenomenon, is, ‘A Soldier Receiving Two Awards For Bravery In Combat’. The figure of ‘a soldier’ suggests one of many, who is responsible for and in control of only him or herself–but all awards a soldier can receive on the battlefield are tied directly to her or his actions that specifically benefit both his cause and his fellow soldiers. So, this could imply that what culminates at the Full Moon started with actions that went ‘above and beyond’–and this is the result.

Bonus: those with natal placements at 20-23 of Leo may be in for major emotional healing or wounding, likely as Full Moon events reveal something about their origins that was previously unrealized.

Bonus bonus: Full Moon work with Auntie Moon

For those born with the Sun at 22 Capricorn: You’re at or very near the summit, right about now, and you reach the crest of your goal only to find–another big climb ahead of you. Don’t despair; you can rest for a brief while and gather in the benefits of the level you’ve already achieved–and if you look around you’ll see that you’ve got the resources, the support, and the personal authority to begin the journey up that next mountain–and it’s more than likely that you’ll reach the summit for this Solar year’s goal much sooner than you expect–so get ready to celebrate–after that climb, of course. Good luck, Cappy, and Happy Birthday!

New Moon in Cancer 4 July 2016 A Mystic Dynamic

Giovanni Boldini 1906 {{PD}}

Giovanni Boldini 1906 {{PD}}

The New Moon in Cancer occurs at 4:01 AM PDT of the 4th at 12 degrees 53 minutes, and the most striking feature of the event is that it forms a loose Mystic Rectangle involving the Sun-Moon/ Earth axis, which includes Mercury conjoined the Sun-Moon and Pluto conjoined the Earth, and the Nodal axis which also has Neptune conjoined the South Node and Jupiter conjoined the North, though with our normally tight (2 degrees or less) New Moon orbs, not all of those bodies and points would be considered in aspect to some of the others. A configuration is able to pull in things that might not otherwise be considered in contact by its sheer power of connection (that is, the power of each part is amplified by being part of a configuration; it’s as if being part of a pattern extends the orb of each body–or maybe we should think of it as the pattern pulling energies into play by proximity to one of the config’s elements). With the Mystic Rectangle formed by this New Moon, a kind of synergy is added to what begins or is seeded: whatever’s born arises from the convergence of a number of factors involving what we care about (Cancer) vs. what exists right now (Capricorn).

The ease with which these various combinations meld and then amplify is what the Mystic Rectangle is all about. There’s Neptune-South Node in Pisces=we either create from the past or use something imagined or created in the past, or we find that past imaginings were illusions, fantasies, or deceptions; Pluto-Earth=material changes, or changes to what we count on or find familiar, to the structure of our lives via both the concrete and rules, boundaries, restrictions, or a transformation or destruction of the ‘real world’ landscape; North Node-Jupiter=opportunities for the future, optimism about the future, or something learned or conveyed (facts) that shape the future; Moon-Sun-Mercury=what we care about we think about, and it acts upon and is acted upon by the other parts of the configuration. The overall picture is one of creative response to change that teaches us something, or from which we learn, and this creates future opportunities, even creates the future itself. Be aware: the tendency may be to live too much in our heads, to see an idea coalesce and then believe we ‘have done’ merely by the thinking. This is a NM that offers a great deal of mental ‘fodder’, but that will support material new starts, even more completely and thoroughly than we might think.

We should note the wide, separating quincunx of the New Moon to Saturn=this may lend an aura of ‘too late’ or unreality to our ideas and efforts–but this is an illusion (Saturn sq Neptune). The Sun is also parallel Venus today, suggesting there’s gain to be had in simply being conscious–and that’s good news. The NM is also in wide square to Zeus, and with Pluto-Earth, forms a tense T-square=the ambition and desire picture may make or break the material changes we allow to come forward–and that means this could be the pivotal issue that decides what precisely in our world changes, as we measure all potential alterations against how well they serve the ambition and desire picture.

The Sabian for the New Moon is, ‘A Hand With A Prominent Thumb Is Held Out For Study’. In palmistry the thumb seems to indicate flexibility and Willfulness of the individual; in a cultural context, we might say it suggests a certain disrespect of others (thumbing one’s nose at something) or a signal that one wants to be ‘taken along for the ride’ (hitchhiking). But the thing that might be most important about the thumb is that it is our ‘opposable digit’–that is, the placement of the thumb in relation to the other fingers offers us as a species an enormous advantage, and is said to be the reason we dominate the earth.

So what does this mean for the NM? The fact that the thumb is mentioned as prominent implies that what begins at this point may be more a matter of Will and skill, combined, than of anything else. Too, the hand is being ‘held out for study’, which echoes involvement of the Nodal axis in the Mystic Rectangle, and may signal the importance, the future-determining ‘stuff’, that the New Moon events will bring. No matter what, it does point to the Self-determining nature of the events and our reactions to them; whether we are Willful or flexible, disdainful, or just going with the flow, we have to admit that it’s our choice, with how we fare resting firmly in our ability to exploit our most unique capabilities and skills.

Our New Moon daily word image is a man standing on a beach, being circled by a large dragonfly. I observed this, and haven’t been able to light on a definitive meaning, though it’s ripe for a few jokes (he’s the ‘Mother of Dragonflies’, for instance!) I finally decided that what it really ‘says’ is something about our interconnectedness with Nature, that we are far more part of the picture at a fundamental level than we consciously realize, just one element in an elemental world. Notice your own interaction with Nature today, especially in any ways you might hold yourself apart, recoil from contact or reality, or see yourself as ‘above’ other life forms; if you have these kinds of reactions or thoughts, they will point directly to areas where you are lacking realistic awareness of the natural order (which is, in essence, a place where the playing field is absolutely level), or where you have somehow removed yourself from it.

I wish someone would yell at me when I forget a Moon event chart–finally, here it is!
