Smart, productive, practical or skilled action that pays off, gets us more or bigger, that delivers Love or Reward, only takes our attention and some initial effort–all the rest follows as a matter of course. It sounds so easy, right? Well, for once, it is, if we’re willing to focus–and of course, as always, there’s one other thing. Our awareness of the past is either showing us how we’re being held (or holding ourselves) back, or this awareness is offering a solid ground from which to launch current projects. Our attention is on some Jupiterian concept or area of life, consumed with having or getting more, with expanding our world, with the facts, with finding or making opportunity, with ‘getting the word out’ in some form or fashion, with learning or teaching, with beliefs, and with certain forms of freedom, the ‘don’t tie me down’ kind. Some astrologers see this transit as lucky, and it can be, but the luck arises from our concerted focus on Jupiterian elements of our lives, rather than from any external force that randomly bestows favor. It’s a case of being lucky precisely because we are attuned to where we can expand, where we can find more. We’re ready to grab the opportunity or take the advantage as we become keenly aware of it as soon as it’s on the horizon, even feeling it as it approaches. And that’s where we meet the other aspect perfecting today, the Sun quincunx Saturn. This has to make us wonder what obstacle must be removed, what reality accommodated, what restriction gone around, what suppression thrown off, before we can get our hands on Jupiterian abundance. Find the benefit, find the obstruction, and you know just what you’ll need to do, to get your version of ‘More’.

Today’s word image is a pilot who doesn’t seem to know how to fly the plane! Is there someone in your world who’s supposed to be an expert, who’s ‘in charge’ of important events in some significant way, who’s just not competent? Aside from any suggestion that they’re holding a position they shouldn’t, be aware that as frustrated as you are, they are just as frustrated, just as confused. The incompetence isn’t a feature of this person insisting on pushing their way into something they can’t handle, but more a result of being handed a status they never meant to hold in the first place. Go easy on them, and don’t get on that plane!

Seeing this Jefferson Airplane poster made me think of a time decades ago when I was babysitting some tweens. These were the days of Jefferson Starship. I joked that they must’ve gotten themselves more modern transportation, because they used to be Jefferson Airplane. The scoffs could be heard ’round the world. I was told in no uncertain terms that if I was going to make up stories, they’d need to be better than that!

Anyone else feel lately, for want of a better word, ‘haunted’? What we’d like to not think about is right there, isn’t it? Our anxieties are free-floating, and our minds, in trying to deal with them, look around for problems that can explain our feelings of hopelessness and dread. Am I being too dramatic? Maybe, but when we’re so charged-up with worry that we comb our lives for upsetting scenarios to attribute that anxiety to, then we’re cart-before-the-horsing it, and so misdirecting our attention, effort, and energy into trying to solve problems (mostly through worry!) that don’t really exist–and meanwhile, our dreams gather dust and our forward momentum is lost. The antidote? Face what you’ve been avoiding, but don’t let it dominate your thoughts; that is, take action to alleviate conditions, and/ or just move along–half the time those things we’re obsessing about are outside our control, anyway. And try to see how these matters that plague us may have roots in wounds to or some kind of violation of what we see as sacred, to be honored, or as ‘rules to live by’. We often have a very difficult time looking at or even recognizing something so deeply but narrowly traumatic. Tomorrow, the 7th, we see a Sun-Jupiter trine with Sun quincunx Saturn, suggesting bounty, opportunity, expansion, the kind of positive scenario that can’t happen unless we’re willing to deal with and modify the reality picture, to include what’s holding us back.

Today’s word image is a portrait: someone who is placed in a position of ‘helping’ who is deliberately placed there because they know nothing about the issue! What does it say, for instance, that someone is in a position to help sell something, but can’t even answer basic questions about the item? To me it says that those selling don’t want to answer any questions, that in fact they want an impulsive, emotion-driven, unthinking purchase to be made–and that may be the case when the seller knows of issues they’d rather not acknowledge. Some people think, the less informed the party buying their sh*t, the better. Do you really want to ‘do business with’/ be involved with that?

The 4th: You know that phrase, ‘to strong arm’ something or someone? Today every interaction may feel that it carries an element of compulsion, of someone or something trying to force us–to do what almost doesn’t matter–or even that we are compelled from some internal need, for Truth, for power, for ego gratification, for action where there has been none. It’s a pushy-shove-y vibe, one where we could end up tearing down what give us security out of our own personal insecurities–and then there’s the question of who’s in charge. What we need to remember is that no matter what, we are in charge of ourselves, and that’s so even when options have been narrowed by externals. Proceed with care, and find outlets for energy that refrain from blowing things up.

Ascendant on 2nd House cusp Whole Sign

Let’s get something straight: in the Whole Sign Universe, the Ascendant sign dictates the 1st House; that means we can’t have the Ascendant in the 2nd House! Because, if the Ascendant is there, that makes it the 1st House! Even very close to the ending of a sign, even in the last degree and minute and second, the Ascendant is still in the 1st. That means the Ascendant can be found anywhere within the 1st House.

In Placidus and many other House systems, the Ascendant delineates the beginning of the 1st House, but with Whole Sign, the sign of the Ascendant makes that sign the entire House, both ahead of and behind the Ascendant itself. This also lays out the rest of the chart, with one sign per House and the Midheaven true to its position; that is, unlike in other systems, the MC doesn’t mark the beginning of the 10th, but instead can fall anywhere the Sun could reach its zenith in a 24 hour period in that part of the world at that time of year.

It’s true that people talk about ‘being on the cusp’ of something: another sign, another House, but the term cusp only means ‘edge’. If you’re on the edge of a cliff, you’re not also below, tumbled into the valley, are you? So let’s stop talking about astrology as if a body or point is being influenced by something it’s not in, or a condition it doesn’t have–that not only makes for inaccurate, even sloppy, interpretation, it encourages those who don’t know better to think they may opt for the natal placement or for the other sign or House it’s near. As they say in that commercial where the woman takes a picture off her living room wall and declares, ‘I unfriend you!’, that’s not how any of this works.

quincunx relationship Scorpio/ Gemini

This made me think someone was looking for the relationship potentials between two individuals, each with the Sun in one of these signs, so I’ll approach this that way. First, an actual quincunx between Suns would require no more than a two degree differential; in that case we might expect that each would perpetually feel they must adjust their identity, their purpose, the nature of their true essence, just to get along with the other. That makes for an uncomfortable, not to say stressful, relationship.

If we’re talking about Suns that are in signs that are quincunx, but that are not in direct dialogue with each other, we might see a similar dynamic, but more diffuse. These two people might not ‘get’ each other, and are most likely to feel mild indifference, and maybe a lack of empathy, barring any other dynamic contacts between charts. Scorpio is Fixed Water: tending to perceive and process emotionally, first and foremost, with those perceptions intensely and deeply felt, and relatively difficult to change. Gemini is Mutable Air: perceiving and processing through the mind, perpetually re-considering and assessing, always searching for new information, and so changeable in their thinking.

In either case, not an easy interaction, no matter their roles or relationship.

Forecast 1-3 August 2019

The 1st sees us in harmony with ourselves, essentially agreeing with what we think! It’s a day that reinforces our mentality and the way we see things, but this offers one bonus: the ability, probably due to the consistency and harmony of our presentation at this time, to heal relationships or asset sources that have been damaged. And that’s a worthy goal, right?

The 2nd is almost the opposite to the 1st, with erraticism and unusual behavior in relationships, financial anomalies, surprises in Love, shocks over worth, and we find the reward from original thinking and innovation. And, we are either going after our own empowerment aggressively, or receiving aggression from others over what is or isn’t our domain. We may feel as if we are victims of the random, but there are two things we can do that should be highly beneficial to us: go over the discrepancies between our highest values and our ambitions; somewhere they’re not meeting up, and that’s causing ‘fulfillment drag’–and willingly excavate those personal matters we’ve ignored or denied, the ones that cause a shadow on the identity or expression of purpose. Hauling this material into the light will be nothing but good, in the end, and we’ll likely find that most of this shadow was generated by our own judgments of ourselves, and can be forgiven at any time.

By the 3rd we’re looking at personal empowerment issues, struggling, even, to make them ‘stick’. The feeling may be that we have to justify, one way or another, the territory we claim. We need to realize we’ve suffered a recent aggressive injury, where someone attacked, maybe very subtly, our right to be–and that has left this scab and we’re picking at it! Here’s your therapy: Stop it! Remind yourself you have the right to claim space to be, to do, to dream, as your own–no need to justify your existence, ever, to anyone, and that includes yourself. Nobody puts Baby in the corner!

For those born with the Sun at 09 Leo. That sounds obvious, but the reality is that this is the year when all those choices, those roads taken and those avoided, coalesce into a meaningful picture. You’ll see, benefit from, and pay for those choices. Noe, if that makes you uneasy, you still have this year during which to clean up your act, to change your fate. The New Moon falls at 8 Leo 36 at 8:10 PM Pacific Daylight Time, and just 48 minutes later we see Mercury inch from its station to station direct. It could make for one intense hour, especially considering the way Luna has just passed over Venus in Leo and is yet to trine Jupiter in Sagittarius–and both of these are, in my view, outside acceptable orbs to register as part of the New Moon event. This past and yet-to-be could bleed into the New Moon, though, infusing the ambient energy with a sense of rewards, recent and yet to come. The experience of Luna drenching itself in the Self-Love of Venusian fire, and then moving toward harmony with the social order, with opportunities far and wide, with facts that support our emotional perceptions, may make the atmosphere a little heady, the outlook carrying a sense of empowerment and ‘great things’ for the future.

The New Moon in Leo suggests a new passion, and particularly suggests a fire within the individual that sets a new emotional course. The NM square to Uranus in Taurus forms a T with the Sun-Moon/ Earth axis, implying that fire’s spark could come from accident, surprise, revelation, something that shocks via the senses, via a resource dilemma, or that changes our comfort level discernibly. The New Moon is trine Chiron in Aries, again pointing toward the individual, and to the individual weakness, vulnerability, wound, or unique skill, and that this will play an important role in what starts here. A quincunx to the calculated point Black Moon Lilith promises that what begins now must accommodate or otherwise adjust to one or more matters that anger, or that are being ignored or denied, or perhaps that matters surface and are shoved aside, in order to keep the optimistic mood and get the Self into action.

The Sabian Symbol for the New Moon is, ‘Glass Blowers Shape Beautiful Vases With Their Controlled Breathing’. This suggests that the perception of reward, of something beautiful on the horizon that springs from our own effort, is indeed accurate, but it’s up to us, in fostering that new spark, that individual action or feeling, to control ourselves. No matter how shocking or unusual the Uranian influence to the New Moon event, we need to keep a clear head–that might be part of the acceptability of to some extent pushing aside or adjusting to Black Moon Lilith issues–and we need to control our prana, the very life force itself, in order to maintain a coherent connection between the physical world and the spiritual one, in order to heal, or access skills (Chiron) and so control the spark, control efforts and materials, and as a result, shape a beautiful future.

Then less than an hour after the New Moon we see Mercury go direct. It does so as planet of latest degree, suggesting that we may experience a sensation something like ‘waking up’ but in a way that feels a little like coming to consciousness after climbing out on a limb–we’re super-surprised to find ourselves there, and don’t really know what to think! Since Merc is in Cancer, the surprise may concern what we do or don’t care about, or maybe how we think we care about something and find out we don’t.

Also of note today, and maybe felt strongly by some, a Finger of God with base of Mars-Juno and Zeus, apex Neptune. This actually shaped up right around the 28th but only grows more contained, peaking today and dissolving by August 2nd. This suggests, barring any other contrary indicators within the individual chart, that concerted effort to fulfill ambitions could very easily bring the dream to reality, or lead to establishment of ideal circumstances. That means do it now.

We’re at that liminal, Dark of the Moon point, just before both the New Moon in Leo and the station direct of Mercury. That means a lot of tension with nowhere to go, a lot of feeling around in the dark, trying to get our bearings, a lot of effort made that won’t quite meet the mark–and that’s okay, really, because at this time we’re likely gaining access to areas of the unconscious that are usually well-hidden by the conscious mind. Wisdom can seep into the mind at this point without our being aware of it, a kind of subtle intake that will only make itself known later. The trick today is to avoid acting on delusion, misinformation, or in misunderstanding of our own values (Yes, this can happen, if one is telling oneself one’s values are other than what they truly are). We learn by absorbing, and especially valuable to us at this time are the lessons we can glean from power entities, those in authority; we can gain knowledge simply by observing their interaction with what they consider their domain. Though seemingly a passive point, there’s a lot going on here below the surface–so relax, and know that no striving is required in order to get things together effectively.

An extinct predator, prehistoric–so we might ask ourselves: What previous danger (one we still see as impacting us) is actually long gone? Today’s word image is something from a dream I had last night: someone was trying to persuade me to leave behind a big box of books that I wanted to take with me. Pretty obviously, books to me are knowledge, other worlds, potentials, all to be explored, and as a symbol we might ask ourselves, who’s trying to persuade us not to know, discover, or explore something, specifically because we would be equipped in a way they don’t want us to be? Just something to ponder, in case someone is asking you to ‘remain ignorant’ on some level.

There’s something about our personal power matrix today that seems to violate our own highest values–but ‘seems’ really is the operative word, as what we’re actually experiencing are external blocks to our power manifestation, ones that can’t actually hurt us except by worming into our minds and attempting to stir some kind of guilt. ‘Don’t be selfish’ and ‘Quit showing off’ may be the refrain. These aren’t legitimate critiques, but instead sour grapes, or in some cases an attempt to subdue us for some other entity’s benefit. If we can avoid succumbing to this thought-assault, we can benefit greatly from our own efforts and from our willingness to share in some form those skills unique to us that we’ve mastered. That’s where the action, and the reward, are today.
