Tension, as the Moon leaves the sign of the eclipse, Aquarius, and as Mercury is only about thirty minutes from the point at which it will retrograde, on the 12th–when the usually-swift messenger hangs like that it almost feels time itself is suspended–we may return over and over to the thought, ‘I just wish things would move along!’ This is not unusual for that valley between eclipses–we just have to ride it out. Our best bet may be to concentrate efforts on Saturn as Jupiter (expansion, ‘the facts’, knowledge, the social order) moves toward a sextile–that is, real-world activity, concrete accomplishment, following the rules and making things stable, secure, and a little buttoned-down, as we’re going to get ‘more’ of these, very soon. It’s a day to create a mental ‘Thunder Shirt’ that calms, whether we can pinpoint the source of the anxiety or not. An Earth trine between Merc-Vesta in Virgo and Pallas in Taurus might show us a way out, by suggesting we keep our thoughts on the data, the details, and centered on what matters most, and then taking practical steps using skills to implement what we see, learn, think, in the material world. We focus on clear planning that works with things as they are, and taking down-to-Earth steps forward, and the rest falls into place.

Today’s word image is a sea lion at the circus, being made to balance a ball on its nose. This is an image that used to signal fun and now suggests that we have no right to keep these creatures captive for our amusement–just ask this girl grabbed by one–if that isn’t a message from the Collective Soul of sea lions everywhere to respect their space, then I don’t know what it is! This image may suggest we have some old ideas about how things or people should function in our lives that need re-working–or it could be that we are being asked to perform for others in ways that are outdated, or that disrespect our free Will. Are you one of those people who longs for the ‘old days’? Well, don’t–we tend to forget just how far we’ve come, and how outmoded all those old ways of doing and being really are.

1-2 September 2016 Instincts Serve

For the expected eclipse effects, please go here–and see the assessment of Mercury retrograde here–

The AstroEssence: on the 1st, aside from the eclipse effects (which will likely be the focus of everyone’s attention, and of course sets a tone that reverberates long past the day it originates, generally through to the next eclipse set), aspects perfecting today suggest a couple of things: that even though we will be empowered via the reality situation itself, we may perceive ourselves to be blocked or somehow denied–believe the real-world situation, not your own flawed idea of yourself in it; and know that staying open to our own instinctual responses is the best, wisest guidance we can receive (Pallas parallel Sedna, Sun sxt Juno and sq Saturn)

By the 2nd we may find that ‘big ideas’ end up challenging our priorities and values; we’re trying to connect with reality by rejecting fantasy, illusion, and the untrue, but we may end up throwing out the creative and imaginative ‘baby’ with anything we see as ‘tainted’ bathwater. Again, instincts serve us best, as does a willingness to respect the primal and the animal senses, unfiltered by the mind. Be aware that communications (or our own interpretative inclinations) may exaggerate matters and take a far too critical stance, and that taking a ‘power position’ will not serve at all those things we honor and find sacred (Pluto opp Vesta, Merc conj Jup, Sun parallel Sedna and opp Neptune)

The word image for these two days is a wolverine–the animal, in case there was any confusion. According to its Wiki, “The wolverine, a solitary animal, has a reputation for ferocity and strength out of proportion to its size, with the documented ability to kill prey many times larger than itself.” It’s also noted that in at least one cosmology, the wolverine is seen as creator of the world. So we have a symbol that is relatively small and yet formidable, freakishly powerful for its size–in fact, so powerful it can be a god. What in you or in your life has these characteristics? Is there any area where you see yourself as a powerful god, though others might only see a relatively small, tenaciously combative entity? If you are ferocious about something, is that ferocity warranted, or could it be an overreaction, an attempt to persuade others of a power you are yourself unsure of? And in what way does your passion separate you (the reference to the wolverine as naturally solitary) from others?

For those born with the Sun at 10 Virgo: you have to look at those matters that enrage you, or that you’ve been ignoring or in denial of–they are the keys to moving forward this year and bringing your dreams to reality. A new emotional viewpoint unfolds for you no matter what, though how you deal with all these factors, the feelings and the problems, will determine your future, and possibly your fate–so don’t hesitate to tackle difficulties; it’s vital you make your voice heard. Good luck, Virgo, and Happy Birthday!

For those born with the Sun at 11 Virgo: pure and inspired creativity, especially that which is drawn from past experiences, is yours this year, as long as you do one thing: confront every issue you have avoided, denied, or that has enraged you. You can’t keep your upsets to yourself any longer, nor can you expect to create success if you continue to refuse to deal with issues. It’s that simple, and that complicated, all at once. Good luck, Virgo, and Happy Birthday!
