The good news is you won't lose your head, Gemini. Franz von Stuck 'Salome II'

The good news is you won’t lose your head, Gemini. Franz von Stuck ‘Salome II’

Wow! This coming Solar year, dear Gemini, through to your next birthday, you may have a lot of trouble getting outside your own head! It will seem like your brain is on fire, and you’ve got to do, act, choose–and you’ve got to do it now. You do know that will be an illusion, right? You know that what’s pushing you isn’t Willfulness or even the ego, but those matters you’ve pushed aside and should’ve taken care of long ago–that, and any pain you carry will be the impetus behind your radical and aggressive push forward this coming year–but I hope you aren’t judging this as a bad thing. It’s actually an inspired thing, something prompted by your own inner wisdom and driven by your need to develop and show skills you’ve long wanted to acquire and/ or perfect. You want to be your best Self, and that’s an admirable thing–and you’ll devote this coming year to achieving it. Happy Birthday, Gemini, and good luck!

Charles Rennie Mackintosh – ‘Pinks’ c1920 {{PD}}

It’s a new era for you this coming Solar year, dear Gemini, through to your next birthday; you’ll learn to respect what your emotions tell you, and to revere the accuracy of the intuition, as never before. Honing the uniqueness of your perceptual abilities, and learning how to use them, will be the driving force–but it won’t necessarily be easy. You may have to make some mistakes in order to learn the value of your intuitive knowledge, and you may have to learn to balance what you perceive with real-world feedback–and both of those are good, useful in the way you’ll be called upon to make important choices, and perhaps to lead. You’ll need to apply your wisdom to many areas, but there are potentials for significant healing, use of your Chiron-themed skills, and the chance to clear up matters too long ignored or denied. You’re on a role, perception and wisdom-wise–take advantage of it. Happy Birthday, Gemini, and good luck!

Thomas Le Clear – ‘Interior with Portraits’ c1865 {{PD}}

The challenge to you this Solar year, through to your next birthday, dear Gemini, is to formulate original ideas, especially those that can put you in a leadership or pioneering position, and then to act on them. That sounds simple enough, but may leave you wondering just how to know if what you are moved to do is truly original; here are a few things that may help: perhaps ‘unique’, or ‘born out of a Higher Mind impulse’ are better descriptors of what can and should move you this year–both allow for you to take something that may have been done before and to do it in a very individual way, one that reflects who you are; emotions and intuition will be in conflict with these impulses, and either won’t be available as reliable guides, or will pull you in an entirely different direction, so that little forward progress is made, and awareness of this is important; find an individual or group that can fill that intuitive advice role, even if that’s the ‘180 degree’ rule, where whatever they say, you do the opposite! and know that wisdom can be drawn from past hurt and the imaginings of future ones, from a willingness to face problems right away, and from being willing to think before you do, and then to do–that combo, thinking and doing, are your strong suit this year, no question. Happy Birthday, Gemini, and good luck!

You don't have to spend years in the chorus, if you'll only listen to the Universe, Gemini.  Jean-Louis Forain 'The Singer in Pink' {{PD}}

You don’t have to spend years in the chorus, if you’ll only listen to the Universe, Gemini. Jean-Louis Forain ‘The Singer in Pink’ {{PD}}

Though your mind is on the career or public reputation and the achievement of ambitions and goals this coming Solar year, through to your next birthday, your energy will actually be going in a completely different direction, leaving you pretty bummed at year’s end when you’re no closer to your aims than you are today. Cheer up, dear Gemini: the reality is that both Luck (with a big ‘L’!) and opportunity are scheduled for you–it’s just that you have to be alert to them when they arrive, and open to pursuing the course they require. What comes up may strike you as taking you away from the direction you want to head, but the truth is that your mind is stuck in a rut, and that includes in the aspiration department; the Universe will very kindly offer you (probably more than one) Big Chance to Be Somebody–so don’t blow the opportunity to, for instance, star in a Broadway play because you’re insisting on auditioning for a walk-on for TV. The Universe has better dreams for you than you could ever have for yourself–it’s on you if you turn them down and insist on your own narrow vision. Anyway, Happy Birthday, Gemini, and good luck!

You’re headed toward action, dear Gemini, that will open up your world to new structures, rules, and order–and that sounds awful, doesn’t it? You may be wondering, Where’s that freedom I asked for? Oh, you’ll get it–and from that you’ll create a new framework upon which to hang your choices. The trick to making it work will be staying emotionally and intellectually in synch, and that may take a cool, Big Picture approach to happenings and circumstances–and though you typically like to think your way through things, the mental faculties may seem stuck in place this coming Solar year, through to your next birthday, frustrating your efforts to bring order to that personal freedom you’ll soon experience. The potential for anything goes will come in the matters of the Houses where Sag and Leo are in the natal chart, and these are the same areas that will require re-building. Remember, keep feelings and the philosophy behind your reasoning aligned; gain empowerment and wisdom from past hurts and slights–it’s a source of invaluable insight; and be prepared to feel some things you’ve never felt before, and to take action because of this–all the other change flows from there. Happy Birthday, Gemini, and good luck!

You might burst a seam, if you’re not careful. ‘A Seated Woman Sewing a Seam’ by Utagawa Kuniyoshi c1797 {{PD}}

10 June if you’ve been straining at the seams to whisper those sweet nothings to that special someone, or just to have your say in relationship, now’s the time—Merc’s stationary retrograde and will sit roughly at this point even after direction—and holding in this much tension over the course of three or four days could cause unpleasant bursting—or maybe just a few random and passionate exclamations to no one in particular. We’re in an excellent position to show who we are, to emphasize our uniqueness and originality in a way that’s totally accepted—so don’t fear making the connection, go for it! At the very least you’ll probably make a new friend, or, if the energy is aimed at some other Venusian interest like earning or diplomacy or aesthetics, you can expect to have some (probably surprising) success. ‘Sign’ by Wassily Kandinsky, 1925 {{PD}}

This week’s tip:

Grand Square-Mars and the Sun are filling in a config with Chiron, Black Moon Lilith, and Pallas, which will last through sometime late Pacific time on the 14th. This takes our own particular stew of wisdom, ignored or denied factors, rage or perceptions of injustice, and energies dedicated to hurt or healing, and gives them energy and purpose. This combo can take us forward quickly, either into a morass of trouble, or on an active and smart path to healing–our choice, of course, with the determining factor how much the ego is involved in our choices.

Don't let the crowd or your own fears determine what you do, Gemini. Gabriel Cornelius von Max, 'Monkeys as Judges of Art', 1889 {{PD}}

Don’t let the crowd or your own fears determine what you do, Gemini. Gabriel Cornelius von Max, ‘Monkeys as Judges of Art’, 1889 {{PD}}

You’ve got ambitions, dear Gemini, and this Solar year, through to your next birthday, you’ll spend your time expanding your horizons, and in the process making changes. That sounds simple, but the reality will be that the extent of your knowledge (especially its limits), your relationship to the social sphere, and your beliefs about life itself will all coalesce and drive those changes you choose–and that can mean that changes may be less about choice and how this will take you toward your goals, and more about pressures you feel and your willingness (or lack of it) to learn new things. Circumstances will hinge on how willing you are to open your mind, heart, and world to new experiences–but you should know, there’s no one right answer to this–sometimes it will be smarter to, as a former First Lady admonished us, ‘Just say No.’ That means personal discretion becomes incredibly important–and the key for you using that this coming year is to refuse to allow past hurts to cast their shadow on what you know to be wise and/ or practical. Happy Birthday, Gemini, and good luck!

I’ve got new offerings and a few openings for consults–see those here–Thanks, and have a great weekend!

The Astrology of ‘Perfume: The Story of a Murderer’

Rudolf Ernst ‘The Perfume Maker’
19th century or 20th century, but before 1932 {{PD}}

This is from the current issue of ECLIPSE.

Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (2007)  I initially thought this was based on a true story when I started the movie, though it became clear somewhere along the way that it was, even if based in reality, a kind of fairy-tale. The main character is Jean-Baptiste Grenouille (created by the writer Patrick Süskind in his 2001 novel of the same name as the movie), and we follow him from birth to death—or re-absorption by the Universe, as it were—with the presentation of his birth data and the date of his leaving this plane, the latter including the time. So, I thought it would be fun to look at his chart, and see if it really described a man who had a tremendously heightened sense of smell—but no ability to feel—and who goes on a ruthless quest to capture the odor of ‘beautiful woman’ in a bottle. The movie is gorgeously made, and has many striking moments, the best of which is when Grenouille, taken to be hanged in the town square, unleashes his intoxicating creation, to amazing results.

The story begins with Grenouille’s birth in the early morning at the Paris fish market on 17 July 1738. I chose 9 AM as the time, in part because it gives him a Void 29 degree Moon in Cancer in the 11th House=extreme sensitivity without the usual emotional protection afforded the individual (the Void status, which can make the environment seem like it’s assaulting the person, 24/7), located in the House of goals, wishes, dreams, making this sensitivity central to his existence. The Void Moon is square Pluto=emotions, under stress, burnt out, destroyed. He also has Mercury in Cancer conjunct Saturn-Neptune and only 4 minutes off an exact sextile to his Mars in Taurus=what a perfect portrait of a man driven by acute senses (Merc in Cancer) with the creative compulsion (Neptune—which by the way also rules perfumes, along with Venus) to bring what he imagines into reality (Saturn), via actions (Mars) that are focused on sensation and the sensory experience (Taurus)! Then when we see Venus in Leo conjunct the North Node=the Self-confidence (Leo) to bring one’s values, even the essence of Love (Venus) into the life as a kind of destiny (NN), and 00 degree Pluto in his own sign (the essence of death, and the power of regeneration, just being discovered) in a Water Grand Trine with Neptune and Zeus (when the ambition to create the ultimate scent is realized, he returns, ashes to ashes, dust to dust), we have to wonder, Did Herr Süskind have knowledge of astrology, or consult someone in choosing that date? It’s hard to believe he didn’t.

You needn't be quite as vociferous as Kali, dear Gemini, to get good results. Early 19th century India, Artist unknown

You needn’t be quite as vociferous as Kali, dear Gemini, to get good results. Early 19th century India, Artist unknown

You may be on a bit of a rampage this coming Solar year, through to your next birthday, dear Gemini–you want to clear out, clean out, start over, transform, or regenerate the life–and you have the energy, grace, and ambition to do it successfully. One way or another, the emotional life is on lock-down, which in this period is a positive; this way it doesn’t distract with drama or draining scenarios, but offers a surety in feelings that shows constancy and balance–so if there’s drama, it may come from others, not you, though we must consider that those with whom you interact may be reacting to a little passive-aggression on your part, or from frustration that you seem so emotionally cool. A little reassurance to those you care about, and no engagement in head games, goes a long way at this time. Really, it’s full speed ahead for your life make-over, with one notable exception: you must deal directly with hurtful matters you’ve previously ignored or been in denial about–if you don’t, you’ll meet these progress-halters in full flower later, and by then they’ll have taken on a life of their own. Happy Birthday, Gemini, and good luck!
