Just to Let You Know

I'll be back in the swing of things before you know it. 'Breton Girls Dancing, Pont Aven' Gauguin 1888 {{PD-Art}}

I haven’t been feeling well for the last couple of days, and now I’m running a fever with chills (and occasional bouts of tropical humidity), so will be taking a couple of days off from posting. Subscribers, the Lunar Picture on the Protected Page is set through the Full Moon (and the FM’s in the most recent Weekly Digest); I’m behind on ‘Born Today’ but will catch up when I can. I (or someone) will continue to check my mail and fill orders, so don’t worry, subscribers, if you need help–I’ll get your message, and your new Weekly Digest will arrive on Friday, as usual.

So sorry for the inconvenience–I hope everyone is staying well, and living happily ever after!

Venus Enters Taurus: ‘Slipping Into Something More Comfortable’

Casas 1894 {{PD-Art}}

Venus tiptoes into the sign of the bull at 2:24 AM PST on the 5th of March, and we’ll hear a general sigh of relief as shoes are kicked off and toes run through new spring grass, armor plate is unbuckled and set aside for something soft and cozy, and we stop demanding what the ego wants and start filling our pie hole with the culinary glories we’re suddenly noticing all around.This is one of Venus’ two homes (the other being Libra), so she’ll be super-happy here, right?

Umm, not so fast–as she changes signs she positions herself in an exact semi-square from the transiting Sun. uh-oh. The great Isabel Hickey spoke of this, the only possible aspect of discord between Sun and Venus, noting that this mild negative is the most dissonance that there can be between the symbol of the Soul (the Sun) and the principle of Love (Miss V). This suggests that, at least at first, Venus will be gettin’ into the tangible comforts of home, the sensual, and the creative at least in part because she’s a little upset–maybe jealous, envious, or wanting ‘more’, all typical Venusian ‘faults’–or because her vanity, aesthetic needs, or attempts to show love are not being seen in a flattering light. Whatever it is, Venus retreats in what is essentially a passive-aggressive stance meant to say, “I’m done pushing forward (her time in Aries), I’m unhappy when I try to partner, or with the Other, who doesn’t appreciate me (her other sign, Libra), so now I’m going to hide away, indulge myself, and relax–with the added purpose of ignoring you, and concentrating on me.”

Watch the tone around the time of, and directly after, the sign change, and note where resentments seem to bubble to the surface, in ourselves and others. In just a day Our Lady of Love will sextile Neptune, and with both in their own signs, this may make for a potent elixir of Love, idealism, delusion, or deception, that turns us away from resentment and puts us on a creative, and hopefully kinder (to ourselves and others) path.

Just a Little Weekend Lunar Essence for 3-4 March 2012: ‘Into the Light’

'Sunset by the Sea, Brittany' by Puigaudeau pre-1930 {{PD-Art}}

For Saturday 3 March:

Just before 8 AM Pacific time, the Cancer Moon sextiles the Mars/ Earth conjunction and so of course trines the Sun. Luna in Cancer loves the Pisces Sun energy, and generously lights the way for today via the emotions and intuitions, telling us exactly what steps to take (as Mars himself is not capable at this point, while retro).

By 9:30 AM PST the Moon squares Zeus; what happened to all that sunshine-y, go get ‘um energy? It got hung up on the ambition picture, on going after what we want, rather than just enjoying the day and everyone in it. Sometimes a non-ambitious approach is a better vehicle to get you where you want to go, as the response to the sunny, open disposition will certainly be more positive than the one to the person who comes in with clipboard in hand, handing out copies of their personal agenda.

And for Sunday the 4th:

By 11:30 AM PST the Moon forms a T-square with Saturn opposed Venus, laying out all our emotional issues surrounding want v. need, have v. have not, and indulgence v. restriction–and what issues they are. Expect some surprising things to come to light, both about ourselves and others, concerning beliefs on having, on plenty, and (for many) the deeply ingrained moral implications of these. Many of these beliefs are things we are not conscious of, but they are things that guide many of our decisions from their place deep in the unconscious cave. It’s a chance to discover a little more about who we are, and to modify that to a belief system we find more appropriate (or more flattering! It’s Venus, after all!)

Just a Little Lunar Essence for Today 2 March 2012: ‘Irrational and Unexpected’

An unreal scenario for most of us--tho we could holler at the Moon like Buzz Aldrin. From the Apollo 17 Mission 1972 NASA {{PD}}

Void begins at 5:14 AM PST; the Moon enters Cancer at 7:08 AM PST.

There’s an immediate square to Mercury, followed by a trine to Neptune (9 AM Pacific). Do we speak up because we care, or because we don’t, and want to hide that fact? And then do we follow up by spinning a tall tale, a fantasy, a delusion, a tale of inspiration or ideals, or an outright lie? Whatever comes forward in us, we will not be expecting it (square to Uranus (1 PM PST), and it will have to do with how much emotional nurture we feel we can give.

In this same interval, we have the Moon square Vesta, 11 AM PST. The Merc/ Neptune Cancerian effect, described above, may be propelled by the way it pricks our conscience, or threatens our home or relationship. And please note, nobody said any of this was rational!

Just a Little Lunar Essence for Today 1 March 2012: ‘A Long Geminian Voyage’

'Beach at Valencia or Afternoon Sun' Sorolla y Bastida 1809 {{PD-Art}}

It’s a long, Geminian voyage with no Lunar contact until 11 PM PST, when the Gemini Moon sextiles Venus. This may feel like relief, more than anything else, especially after such a big period of non-contact that is not a Void; these ‘empty’ periods can make us feel insecure, in a way, prompting a stress response that is unnecessary and may even take us wildly off track, and it may be driven by lightly-considered idle chatter or baseless speculation (Gemini).

Beautiful work by Horacio Cardozo {{PD-Art}} Released into the Public Domain by the Artist--Thank you, Horacio!

Of note on the 29th is Venus sesquiquadrate the North Node and semi-square the Sun; this may be especially problematic as the Gemini Moon conjuncts the South Node, suggesting that emotional upsets related to the identity and direction we’re headed will either bring up past emotional issues or be directly caused by these. This should put us on notice that relationship and financial issues, if we react to them unthinkingly, will cause major headaches, now and in future, as we set the stage right now for what’s coming. Take this as a chance to look dispassionately at the feeling state, separating ourselves so as objective-as-possible a view can be formed.

Just a Little Lunar Essence for Today 28 February 2012: ‘A Universal Lover’s Quarrel’

'The Marriage Demand' Bodinier 1825 {{PD-Art}}

Void begins at 5:39 PM Pacific time. The Moon enters Gemini at 7:27 PM PST.

Right away Luna squares Neptune; I almost want to characterize this as a ‘Lover’s Quarrel’, but a Universal one (Pisces), where everyone is just a little disgruntled with the way they feel they’ve been duped, mislead, poorly informed, or enchanted with promises, words, illusions presented, or dazzling deeds. Be thankful for the wake-up call, and recognize your own part in things–this isn’t ‘blame the victim’, but rather a suggestion that we all recognize that we wouldn’t get bedazzled if we loved reality more than our own desire nature.

'Dignified Couples Courting' Hmm, perhaps that's a matter of opinion. Buytewech c1620 {{PD-Art}}

12:30 PM PST the Taurus Moon trines retro Mars in Earth. This shows us what we need to do to make ‘it’ happen, and also shows us why we shouldn’t go forward, just yet. To ignore that last part of the message is to court trouble, so don’t.

Just a Little Astro Essence for Your Weekend 25-26 February 2012: ‘A Season for the Self’

Goya c1786 {{PD-Art}}

For Saturday 25 February:

10 AM Pacific time the Aries Moon conjuncts Venus. Since Venus is uneasy in Aries to begin with, the Moon comes along and aggressively probes our feelings on relationships and finances, and these are likely two areas where of late we’ve been (uncomfortably) putting ourselves first, lately. The thing is, we shouldn’t feel badly about seeing to our own needs at this time; with so many bodies in the sign of the ram right now (Uranus, Ceres, Moon, Venus) we are called to emphasize our own expression and power needs in all situations. Venus, Ceres, and the Moon can all muster their own specific ‘voices of guilt’ when we become susceptible: Venus’ is the one we experience after a bout of jealousy or envy, Ceres’ belongs to the internalized mother who chides us for any number of (probably) irrelevant or outmoded behaviors, and the Moon just urges us to be hang-dog in general! Just be aware that this is the astro ‘season’ for us to put the focus on ourselves, guilt-free (and I blame that Pisces Sun, too, shining a light on altruism as if it’s the only game in town!) Vesta comes along to join this group in Aries at 11:04 AM Pacific time, adding to the imperative to think of ourselves first at this time–so do it without shame :)

And for Sunday 26 February

4 AM PST the Moon opposes Saturn, either divorcing us from feelings of guilt and repression, or showing us just how far our feeling nature is from the corresponding reality. An aspect of freedom, disorientation, and the heavy memory-reminder-burden of things like reality, gravity, and everything that has a say over us. Void begins (and either frees us from caring or from feeling we must do something about these Saturnian things) at 4:53 AM PST; the Moon enters Taurus at 6:30 AM PST, immediately sextiling Neptune. Confusion or delusion over the material situation is the result, and a drained feeling likely all-around. Not a great kick-off for the bull. Vesta sits at the Moon/ Neptune midpoint, and this adds an important point: that our confusion or delusion is seated in a feeling that something sacred has been violated. Knowing that we may think and act from a sense of indignation may give us some perspective: we can’t hope to ‘feel clearly’ coming from a prejudiced state of mind!

Just a Little Lunar Essence for Today 24 February 2012: ‘Deal, But No Surrender’

Paxton 1921 {{PD-Art}}

12:30-ish PM PST the Aries Moon squares Pluto and trines the North Node, giving us the green light for emotional housecleaning (or, for housecleaning involving the area the t NN is affecting in your chart), but we run into difficulty: though we know trimming and re-forming is the right thing to do in terms of the direction we’re headed, we still find that something unanticipated, something hidden, dark, a secret, or something external that threatens destruction stands in our way, or demands we conform. You must deal with the issue, but to surrender your power would be a mistake.

6:30 PM PST the Moon conjuncts Ceres, making for an exceptionally Willful period. We want our way, and see ourselves as the authority. We may view ourselves as ‘naturally’ in charge, but a review of whether that’s appropriate for the venue in which we find ourselves will keep us out of trouble ;)
