The Essence for 10 April 2011: That Cancer Kindness Thing

By 3 AM Pacific the Moon opposes Pluto and trines Ceres. Here the emotional consequences of power plays made around you will be clear–and you may find yourself rejecting what appears to be a straight-out grab for control in favor of power acquisition that seems to follow more ‘natural’ roles and could be seen as nurturing. Before you get all ‘Plutonian power bad, Ceres power good!’ consider that these are really two sides of the same coin–and that they’re actually working in concert–so there is no good or bad, just perception, and the way in which one strikes us as a caring despot, while the other seems a little Hitler-y.

A 5 AM quincunx of the Moon to Pallas makes for some smart adjustment ideas and suggestions–please follow them. After this everything goes smoothly, everyone cares, everyone is our friend (it’s that Cancer-kindness thing) until 2 PM PDT, when the Moon square the Saturn/ h.Zeus duo; then it becomes a harsh reality check where we may find our ambitions and desires thrown in our faces in very unflattering form. Don’t take this personally; the agent who criticizes is likely threatened, and agitated by what they may feel they’re missing. This person needs our understanding instead (though that doesn’t mean we have to agree, stick around for more harshness, or cut them a blank check–when we walk away they might realize they have to grow up, too). This is followed at 6 PM by a sextile to Juno, which shows us how our previous Self-control is serving to empower us–a nice way to wrap up the episode.

I’ll be putting out a new newsletter tomorrow, and will be giving away free copies of this one issue over a 24 hour period, starting Monday the 11th. If you’re interested you can leave your name and email in the comments section for this post or for the post for the 11th, and tell me you’re writing for a free copy, which I’ll send on Monday, Pacific time. Thank you, to my readers and especially to my subscribers, for their kind support!

The Essence for 9 April 2011: The Feeling Lens

I don't know what to think of this picture by Arnold Bocklin--it certainly elicits an array of reactions!

4 AM PDT of the 9th, the Moon hits the South Node, and sends us on a nostalgia trip–ease on down the road! Void begins 5:48 AM PDT, with the Moon entering Cancer at 2:02 PM Pacific, and until the Lunar orb hits Cancer, we may just generally drift–not a bad feeling, but perhaps frustrating to those who are a little more type ‘A.’

We start with a trine of the Moon to Neptune; it’s like diving under water and trying to convey our feelings through a dense, shimmering liquid that muffles the sound and distorts what we see–we can certainly live through it, but we shouldn’t expect clear communications–it’s more like everyone is in their own little watery cocoon.

The Essence for 8 April 2011: Compassionate Exchange

Beauty and the Beast in a compassionate exchange by Anne Anderson {{PD-Art}}

A square to Venus arrives at 7:30 AM PDT, and this may inspire some interesting and revealing conversation–or exchanges of a truly compassionate nature. Our values may, for the moment, be Universal.

A square to Juno is made by the Gemini Moon just before 9:30 AM PDT, followed by a sextile to Jupiter by 11:30 AM. The emotions are confronted by a power position that is taken very seriously by another; we may enter this period feeling glib and come out the other side subdued by some very strong power urges in others. Our own desires to expand will show, too–tread carefully :)

The Essence for 7 April 2011: Are We Not Superhuman?

The Moon enters Gemini at 4:22 AM PDT on the 7th, and begins her sojourn with an inspiring square to Neptune; we see where we could do better, we embrace what inspires us, we imagine greater, we create with an open heart and mind–ooh, the journey through Gemini could be very good indeed, if we can reconcile our own emotional contrariness to the desire of this Moon to make contact and network network network.

A sextile to Uranus just after 7 AM PDT is followed quickly by a trine to Vesta 8 AM-ish; the effect is one where we feel mentally agile and inspired to meet our highest ideals and Purpose–but we must keep awareness of the Merc retro if we are to make best use of the energy–to forget that we are susceptible to the foibles of a natural cycle is to cast ourselves as Superhuman–and that mistake could mean we miss implementing successfully even the simplest of our goals. By 10:30 AM Pacific the Moon makes a square to Chiron, and we find out almost immediately whether our earlier lofty mindset translated well during this time of mental minefields and potential misunderstanding.

The Essence for 6 April 2011: A Spiritual Happening

You may have noticed (or seen me mention) that the Sun/ Jupiter conjunction in Aries has perfected (at 1 AM of the 6th the Moon will semi-sextile these), and that this is semi-square Neptune freshly returned to his home in Pisces. Though the Sun/ Jupiter connection happens once a year, this time it seems both exceptionally strong (perhaps due to the recent New Moon within conjunction of this meeting) and in some way endowed with a certain Neptunian magic–or is it that the ‘Big Bang’ promised by a Sun/ Jupiter meeting will be transformed by the grace, spiritual power, imagination and creative surge, and compassionate mandate of Neptune’s energy? Neptune in Pisces is virile, at his best, and can manifest in his most ideal forms–and we have the chance to use this creative power as it contacts the Sun and Jupiter; like a magnifying glass refining the pure energy of the Sun, Jupiter exaggerates, expands, and pulls us all together on a social level, making for a massive energy burst on the social scene that can be infused with creative energy and ideals–we can make what we wish for all a reality, if we are willing to focus our efforts and perhaps put aside our attention to the Self and Self’s interests, if only for a short time. A major expression of compassion and spiritual ideals is possible–and if we can all channel our energies into healing on a mass scale (imagining the ideal) we may be able to achieve great things. I’m planning on dedicating several hours tomorrow to a meditation focused on imagining a healed planet, on promoting empathy and a recognition of spiritual connectedness among all who are here–and I hope you’ll join me–even a moment dedicated to expression of a pure and compassionate Neptunian energy can, I believe, do wonders–and the Taurus Moon is the perfect time to do this. I don’t expect anyone to surrender their day to dedicated spiritual practice–it’s an unusual choice for me, to say the least–but I do feel moved to concentrate my intention on repairing, and loving, the planet and those who occupy it–and maybe in the process something good will come of it :)

The Essence for 4-5 April 2011: Flooded With Love

First I want to say that we might be seeing that “reckoning with Mother Nature” anticipated in the newsletter for today (the 4th) as it’s been announced that at this point radioactivity is pouring into the Pacific through a crack in one of the Japanese reactors. They are speaking of containing it with a system similar to that employed with an oil spill–astrology suggests this will not work, as the solidity of the Earth moves away from Saturn (containment) contact, just as the Sun moves toward Jupiter (expansion) contact. Not a happy day for mankind, I’m thinking.

By 6:30 PM the Taurus Moon is semi-sextile Uranus and square Vesta. This combination may bring emotional shocks at challenges to those things we revere, or to the home or sex life; it seems the feeling perceptions of life are bound to be stressed, one way or another, with some temptation to act (8:30 PM PDT semi-sextile to Mars). We should try and sort this out without taking a too-precipitous route, and of course, don’t make any major decisions at this point (Merc retro).

Just prior to 3 PM PDT of the 5th, the Lunar orb sextiles Venus in Pisces; we may be flooded with love, or love’s representative in a material form that is particularly Taurean: tactile, sensual, comforting, delicious! Perhaps this signals a solution to the radiation leak, likely of a different sort, after all.

The Essence of the New Moon for 3 April 2011: Glass Half Empty, or Glass Half Full?

'Glass of Absinthe and a Carafe' Van Gogh 1887 {{PD-Art}}

The New Moon happens at 7:31 AM PDT on April 3rd, conjunct Jupiter, and opposed Saturn, h.Zeus, and of course the Earth. When it arrives, this may give the NM energy a bouncy feel, back-and-forth between optimistic seedlings, the hopeful beginnings of things, and a reality-based viewpoint that says, ‘Put a lid on ambitions and desires–be practical.’ It might be a no-fun face-off, and we will likely choose one side or the other, according to our personality. Are we more a glass half empty or glass half full kind of person? That will determine which role we play–and of course, casting ourselves as one means we must cast others in our environment as the other, someone to ‘blame’ as either a wet blanket or an irritating Pollyanna.

The Sabian is surprisingly menacing: ‘A Serpent Coiling Near a Man and a Woman’ That doesn’t sound like a symbol of optimism! And yet, what we may see in this is not danger, as our first impression might be; the snake is near, which requires only awareness. This is perhaps a suggestion that we bring ourselves down to earth, just a little, by keeping a sharp eye on what surrounds us. The man and woman mentioned in the symbol suggest inclusiveness; the warning to stay aware applies to everyone, no exceptions.

The Essence for 2 April 2011: Temper Temper

The Moon enters Aries at 4:16 AM PDT. Right away the Moon conjuncts Mars at 00 Aries; this could lead to emotion-driven temper, temper-driven emotion, assertive feeling (a sureness to the emotional picture), acting to get it done (supported by emotional conviction), ego tantrums, or passionately taking up a cause. Since this is the Aries Point, we should expect that what materializes has been brewing in the unseen sphere for some timethat means we must trust that what appears is representative of what we’ve been arranging and agreeing to–and that now we’re dealing with it in the material realm.

A sextile to Pallas around 6:30 PM PDT just precedes the square to Pluto, setting up a dynamic where we do something we know is smart (or, where it’s easy to do or choose the wise thing), and our reward for that is emotional conflict that may destroy, resurrect, investigate, or completely transform our feelings. This may be an interesting roller coaster from which we can learn an immense amount, and an episode from which we may emerge fundamentally changed (and considering this is in the darkest of the Dark of the Moon, the change can seep into us without our even knowing).

The Essence for 1 April 2011: No Fools Here

'Pierrot and Harlequin' Cezanne 1888 {{PD-Art}}

The Lunar aspects are so sparse for the first day of April that I’m sharing them all, in hopes that we can all avoid foolishness, tomfoolery, being fooled, playing THE fool–but it’s perfectly fine to eat a fool–so there you go!

2 AM of the 1st the Moon opposes Juno, and we are faced with precisely what we must do to attain empowerment or gain the cooperation of others–a good point to pay attention! This lasts through around 10 AM Pacific when the Moon sextiles Sedna, and we experience a brief but possibly big-impact blind spot. The danger is we may walk into things feeling sorted-out and confident from the contact to Juno, and not realize that we are suddenly ‘blind’ in the situation.

8 PM-ish PDT the Moon squares the Nodal axis, and we may feel we’re at an impasse; the emotional ‘read’ is that we’re damned if we do and damned if we don’t. This is a feeling that’s not connected to any actual life circumstances, but more of a momentary embracing of free-floating fear. Let it go and go on with your day.
