The AstroEssence: Rage or destructive attitudes are in danger of eroding our internal wisdom, even as (or perhaps because) we turn away from that anger or from matters that need attention; somehow ignoring or denying the problem appears to be the solution–and that’s where we go wrong. We need to think about it, and then clear it out, one way or another. Relationships could be mine fields unless we maintain a respectful approach to the other, no matter how things appear. Transform communication through critical thinking and a willingness to let go of rules, parameters, and structures–avoiding falling into old, ingrained patterns in how we think, speak, and listen will make the difference–and know that being open to change will have a further benefit of offering personal empowerment and could elevate status (Pluto semi-square Juno, Venus contra-parallel Black Moon Lilith and sxt Vesta, Mercury trine Pluto)

Today’s word image is an astronaut. How perfect for an astrology blog, that we see ourselves as ‘star voyagers’ spinning through space, pinned to the Earth, looking out at the Cosmos! What does an astronaut mean to you? Does the symbol point your attention toward some recent horoscope event or learning occasion centered on astrology/ astronomy? Was this job ever an aspiration for you? Do you see astronauts as modern versions of explorers, as people who take extreme, calculated risks, or has the length of time we’ve been going to and returning from space made the entire venture seem old hat, and not very thrilling at all? Do you see space travel as a waste of money, an inevitable result of man’s ever-expanding push outward, or as an outdated dream? The astronaut is merely the most visible human component in a much larger effort, like an actor in a movie–it takes many more people to put the whole thing together than we ever see–and, mistakenly, we tend to assign far more credit or blame to that visible person than they actually deserve. Are you seeing someone as having a greater role in something than they really do, and holding them responsible, when they’re just the ‘front man’? Or are you the astronaut, ready to enter a harsh environment in the name of exploring the unknown?

For those born with the Sun at 18 Leo: you’re gathering steam for some truly unique and original Self-expression, but you’re not there yet; you have some emotional digging to do, some secret-discovering and some changes to make, before you’ll be ready to shine. Though the emotional element of things may seem unimportant (and so you may be tempted to ignore or skip dealing with feelings), they are actually the heart and soul of what you will create, and so must be attended to before you can make that unique statement of who you are. Good luck, Leo, and Happy Birthday!

‘Musicienne du silence’ Arthur Hacker c1900 {{PD}}

The AstroEssence: The ladies have it, if by ‘it’ you mean an ability to cooperate, share power, and combine complementary talents and status in order to go much farther together than any individual could alone–and by ‘ladies’, we really mean the part within all of us that is receptive, and so open to cooperation, a sharing of power, and a willingness to exercise abilities and prerogatives to aid others as much as themselves. There is also an almost magical ability to access the instincts and that primal ‘knowing’ we carry within by staying clear on, and true to, our highest values, when acting or interacting. We profit, in one form or another, by empowering ourselves and others–and that empowerment comes through a partnership mentality that is tuned to the instincts and the values–miss any component, and results are likely to be unproductive, if not outright divisive (Vesta nov Sedna, Venus sxt Juno)

Today’s word image is a violin. It’s here I note that an individual response to an image overrides any definition I might offer. My thoughts: violins are ‘prodigy’ instruments, often taken up before the individual can actually make a choice, requiring discipline, dedication, and control of an extraordinary degree, and their sound is like liquid emotion, often used to heighten feeling in a movie or during a musical experience. Personally, it reminds me of how I didn’t get one of my daughters the lessons she requested (at about nine years old) and I’ve been sorry about not giving her that opportunity ever since–so for me, this is a symbol of regret.

Fotothek_df_tg_0008204_Theosophie_^_AlchemieFor those born today: 17 Leo, described in yesterday’s post, lasts until after 10 PM of the 9th, Pacific time; in order to once again ‘line up’ day and degree the best way possible, you read yesterday’s post if your Sun is at 17–or you wait for tomorrow’s, if your Sun is 18 Leo. In any case, Happy Birthday, Leo!

The AstroEssence: the reality picture (and subsequently, our attention) is focused on matters of ‘health’ (in all its forms) and the way these influence realization of our goals, or shape our ambitions and desires. In accepting and then working with the way things are, we not only find a way forward, we see precisely where our strengths and our ability to influence lies–and we use it, embracing our own authority (no matter how circumscribed or tenuous) and thereby gaining, profiting, or furthering relationships (Perfecting today: Saturn sxt Hygeia, Venus trine Ceres, Mercury conjoined the NN, Sun sxt Zeus)

Today’s word image is a small float plane lands on a smooth lake. The thing that always strikes me about this kind of transportation is how specific it is–you can’t change your mind mid-flight and toot on over to an airport! In what way are you being very particular about moving forward, so much so that you may be limiting your potentials? Sometimes we must be very specific, because we already know exactly what it takes to ‘arrive’ at a highly specialized destination, but we may become overly specific in how we move forward without having a very specific goal in mind, and so could curtail possibilities and delay progress.

For those born with the Sun at 17 Leo: (Please check your natal chart to know whether you should read yesterday’s forecast, today’s, or tomorrow’s, according to the degree of your Sun) You may have realized some important or significant ambition or goal of late, and you may be wondering, now what? You may have an almost immediate emotional crisis to deal with (possibly involving aesthetic matters or the partner), and after that you’re called upon to act and/ or to choose–and this may occur in life areas where the choices conflict with your intentions. Take your time, sort it out, and don’t act reflexively or in anger–that definitely won’t get you where you want to go. Good luck, Leo, and Happy Birthday!

I’m considering offering reports on the upcoming September eclipses (no, the one in mid-August is not an eclipse, but a near miss) in two versions, one a succinct report that concentrates on the meaning for you (no astro-details), the other including the astro-details as they contact your natal chart, and this is very important: these reports only address the impact of the eclipse–the report does not exhaustively cover everything happening in your chart, it focuses on the set of events as they interact with your chart. The emphasis will be on you, and how these might impact you, and you need to be aware, this may or may not address current issues you think are important–often an eclipse set lets you know where things are really happening, or where they’re ‘warming up’, as well as what areas may undergo drastic change, a ‘wipeout’, rather than answering matters that grab your attention currently–though of course, sometimes they do. The briefer report that offers the meaning and life areas impacted for you, based on the eclipse’s contact to your natal chart, will be $35 and run 1-2 single-spaced PDF pages, while the more detailed will run 2-3+ single-spaced pages at $50. Both are delivered by email as soon as possible. I’ll let you know right here if I decide to go forward–and those who’ve already contacted me and asked about this will be first in line, if I decide to offer them. Thanks to all who’ve inquired!

The AstroEssence for Saturday may involve a peculiar sort of instinctive, reflexive action and thought that may bring erraticism to new heights and conflict to relationships–and though we know what we do flies in the face of our internal wisdom, we find ambitions and desires intrude and inspire acting out against the current situation. We act, do, and think in spite of ourselves–and it’s this internal distance, this awareness, that allows us to prevent disaster by focusing on our highest values and those things we know we want to protect and preserve. Measure everything you want to do against your standards and priorities–if it passes muster, go ahead (Perfecting today: T-sq Venus opp Pallas both sq Mars, Venus semi-sq Zeus, Mercury parallel Sedna, sq Saturn, and sesq Uranus, Sun nov Vesta)

Today’s word image is a sno-cone. For me this brings to mind a childhood treat, something eaten in only the hottest weather. Is there something you enjoy that you deny yourself, demanding conditions be ‘just so’ before you can have or do it?

For those born with the Sun at 15 Leo: (Please note: the Sun enters this degree evening of the 6th Pacific time; that means if your birthday is today on the calendar, you may actually want to check your chart so you know whether to read the year ahead for today, tomorrow, or yesterday.) Your world (or should I say your ‘reality picture’?) is changing in major ways, like it or not, and it’s up to you to take advantage of those ways in which you can have your say and affect the outcome. This may require that you are willing to go over old territory, things you already thought were settled, and re-hash matters, especially those concerning power and things that have been kept secret. It won’t be easy, but courage will help you shape things largely as you really want them to be. Good luck, Leo, and Happy Birthday!

For Sunday we may discover that the key to getting what we want, fulfilling ambitions and reaching goals, may be to find a way to work with complementary energies or entities. These are things, people, organizations that inherently conflict, and yet may provide two necessary parts in our quest for fulfillment. Some tips: reject what’s deceptive, and you may end up rejecting what’s creative or spiritually perceptive–it’s baby with the bathwater if you do, so just don’t take any Neptunian element as being entirely obvious or reliable; keep thinking and communications on ‘the high road’; and look for the wisdom and practicality that may be offered through relationships or by watching ‘the bottom line’ (Zeus at the midpoint of Venus sq Mars, Venus parallel Pallas, Merc contra-parallel Zeus, Hygeia, and the SN, and opp Neptune, Sun qnx Pluto)

Looks like the tree is heaving coconuts at those people, rather than them just falling. Photo by Wmpearl Sign found in Honolulu {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a coconut. To me growing up these were exotic, something that spoke of an entire other way of life, of unimagined experience, and handling them was a whole other thing again: they almost felt like some strange cross between animal and plant (I think it’s the hair 🙂 ). Look for something you have in your life now that you approach with that much wonder, so different than the every day, and explore it further–and if you don’t have something like that, go look for it!

For those born with the Sun at 16 Leo: (Please note: the Sun enters this degree evening of the 7th Pacific time; that means if your birthday is today on the calendar, you may actually want to check your chart so you know whether to read the year ahead for today, tomorrow, or yesterday.) For now, change and tough times are behind you; this year ahead, through to your next birthday, is filled with efforts toward ambition realization, especially through the experience of emotional partnership, and with consideration for others and some aesthetic ‘good sense’, you can go far. Good luck, Leo, and Happy Birthday!

Thank you, and enjoy your weekend!

5 August 2016 Excavations, Explorations

William Michael Harnett {{PD}}

William Michael Harnett {{PD}}

The AstroEssence: Venus enters Virgo, and we may start to see ‘virgin territory’ as a desirable place to explore, transform, or critique. We go where we’ve never been before in relationships or financially, or we are willing to be accountable publicly for some change in our values–it’s as if we’re saying, ‘Yes, that’s who I am, not what you expected, right? I’m not afraid to go there”. This is good, if it’s freeing you to express genuine feeling, not so good if it’s an aberration fostered by a too-prickly relationship with Virgoan characteristics, right now (check natal Merc for what it might be receiving by transit–a tense aspect or two almost certainly promises you’ll go out on a limb, then try to saw it off).

The mind may almost compulsively dig into areas where matters are denied or ignored, or where deep change is happening but those involved are pretending everything is just fine. This will cause friction, especially in relationships or financially, but if handled consciously (with deliberate discernment, rather than a critical approach), may excavate areas painful or too long ignored, allowing healing to begin. Warning: thinking easily drifts into the fantastical and unreal; stay connected to the facts–and don’t mistake your or another’s thoughts for facts–for best results (Perfecting today: Venus sesq Pluto, Merc sxt Black Moon Lilith and contra-parallel Neptune)

Today’s word image is a picture of a stranger, found in a box of old family photos. Whose ‘surprise photo’ are you most likely to find emerging from the past? Who within the family is this person connected to, and why? And does this illuminate anything about this family member for you?

For those born with the Sun at 14 Leo: If you’re willing to let go of outmoded or irrelevant energy drains, and acquiesce to re-making those areas that need ‘power reform’, you can mid-way through your year, through to your next birthday, find like-minded others and develop an aesthetic both of which will support realizing your goals and ambitions. Good luck, Leo, and Happy Birthday!

The AstroEssence: Our ambitions drive everything right now; we have innovative, unique, and inspiring thoughts about our desires, wants, and goals, and we see what’s impractical or unwise about the form our current aims take, and so can modify our intended direction and our efforts. Our quest to express our individuality pushes us forward, and we’re heartened both by seeing how and why things didn’t work in the past, and how we and our ambitions can fit into the social fabric now. Optimism is pervasive, but take care not to bite off more than you can handle (Pallas sesq Zeus, and Merc nov Zeus and parallel Uranus, Sun nov Jupiter and qnx the SN)

Today’s word image is unfinished knitting. What have we begun to knit together, pulling in different threads to make a coherent and cooperative whole, that we’ve lately put aside, neglected, or given up on? Whatever the project is, remind yourself of what you intended at the time, then look at things in the light of now–that’s the only way to know if it’s right to pick it up and finish, or to unravel things, and put the energy and materials to a better use.

For those born with the Sun at 13 Leo: Though most of the year goes smoothly, you are actually headed for great change; the question is, will this be forced upon you, or will you see the writing on the wall, and modify your course so that what you’re required to do fits into what you want, anyway? You prepare best by being flexible, and at the same time being as Self-responsible and Self-aware as possible; avoid being too critical of yourself or others, as this is especially likely at those points when emotions overcome you. Good luck, Leo, and Happy Birthday!

The AstroEssence: What we love is actually good for us right now–can you imagine? It may seem like a trick, a deception, a sleight-of-mind, but we’ll only be mislead if we focus our attention too narrowly on ourselves and our interests; keep the world in mind, and our actions and choices can verge on transformative, that’s how effective our ‘reach’ into the real world can be. Make it pleasant, make it pretty, make it profitable, and we’ll all benefit. And we find, in exerting ourselves, that if we anticipated pain for taking charge and being responsible, we were wrong–empowering ourselves is not just hurt-free, but helps us shed any illusions we may have accepted as valid (Chiron contra-parallel Juno, Mars semi-sq Pluto, Venus nov Hygeia, Sun qnx Neptune)

Today’s word image is a forest, where every tree trunk is covered with butterflies. To me butterflies are symbols of potential, of what someone or something can become, and a forest speaks of an environment that acts as a sheltering place to gather, replenish, and breed, a proper ground for bringing something to fruition. This image may prompt us to look at how well our environment incubates our efforts; are they properly nourished, allowed to develop, recognized as valid once they are complete? If not, consider modifications that can help support even the most delicate and elusive of ideas, the inspired kind we must take seriously and pursue, before the moment passes. See one man’s efforts to support butterflies here, and a real-life forest such as our image describes here.

You are entering a larger process of change that will take some time; getting right with the past is your first step forward. Good luck, Leo, and Happy Birthday!

New Moon in Leo + 2 August 2016 Find the Groove

If you don’t find your groove, moving forward may feel like this. 1912
Source https://www.flickr.com/photos/statelibraryofnsw/6433918107/ State Library of New South Wales collection Australian Antarctic Territory {{PD}}

The AstroEssence: Action-taking and choice-making are impulsive and yet create opportunities, and may in particular create an opportunity related to the New Moon; this abundance of possibility is true for us, as long as we access instinct, don’t confuse that with wishful thinking, and stay aligned with our genuine priorities. We can make gains in knowledge and widen our horizons, if we can find the groove. Strange as it may sound, just don’t think about it; that may be our best ‘in’ to the instinctual nature, along with feelings that are clear (that is, not confused with thought). Those who confuse the sources and meaning of their impulses will find it costly, damaging to either relationships or finances, while everyone else can successfully ignore the unpleasant or denied in favor of the instinctual and what’s true to oneself (Mars into Sagittarius, Vesta-Pallas-Juno Water Grand Trine still in effect–see forecast for the 1st–with Vesta also perfecting a sextile to Ceres, Venus sq Sedna, Mercury contra-parallel Black Moon Lilith)

Sun_and_Moon_Nuremberg_chronicleThe Lunar Essence is exemplified by the New Moon in Leo, falling at 10 degrees 57 minutes, at 1:44 PM PDT of the 2nd. This event in Leo brings a focus of Self-awareness, of our part in the larger scheme, and particularly makes us aware of how we might ‘shine’ in life. This meeting of Sun and Moon (as viewed from our perspective on Earth) ends the Dark period and signifies energetically an inception, a new start, a seed moment, likely related to the real-world matters represented by the House in the natal chart in which the NM falls. The aspects made tell us the story; this New Moon is square to Black Moon Lilith, trine Saturn, quincunx Neptune (and close to but too far out to count a quincunx to the SN), and sesquiquadrate Chiron. We personally (Leo) can begin the process of materialization, or we can find shape and context for these matters, or we can limit or otherwise contain issues related to matters of the House where the NM falls. It will take some effort, some of it potentially unpleasant, but the results can be both healing and creative (especially if you can find that groove!) and can remove a long-held shadow from the psyche.

Fritz von Wille 1880 {{PD}}

Fritz von Wille 1880 {{PD}}

The Sabian for the New Moon is, ‘Children Play On A Swing Hanging From The Branches Of A Huge Oak Tree’. This may tell us that our best approach, as with the ‘not thinking’ mentioned above, is one that takes a carefree attitude with developments, toward both what we do or generate and what comes from outside us. Play may be our most useful and productive way of engaging the energies, as it all ‘hangs’ on our wisdom and strength, signified by the oak in the image.

For those born with the Sun at 11 Leo: it may feel like you have just awakened, just been struck by the lightning of an exciting and vital idea, or that you are embarking on a renewed life, even if nothing in your circumstances has changed. This is the effect of having your Solar Return follow so closely in the lee of a New Moon. The emphasis, for you this year, is on creativity; be willing to be flexible, to make the changes, adjustments, and modifications that will support exercising your creative energies and doing right by your spiritual needs, because a helpful wind is with you–you can go a lot farther than you think. Good luck, Leo, and Happy Birthday!

By Karl Wilhelm Diefenbach – ‘Der Rettung Entgegen’ 1913 {{PD}}

The AstroEssence: We’re well into Dark of the Moon, that three day period prior to the New Moon when the Lunar light is absent, effectively removing our symbolic connection to the passing of time–and it’s this sense of timelessness that we should be mindful of right now. Particularly in that final 24 hours before the New Moon, we may find turning inward more natural than turning outward, and aligning our inner life with our outer one especially difficult, as they seem to be so disconnected. That means that meditation, contemplation, revery, creativity, and seeking the vision are all especially effective now, while activities with a purely external focus don’t get the attention they need, and so don’t go as well as they could. Add to this Mars at 29 Scorpio, and we have the potential for a lot of compulsive or poorly thought out actions and choices, prior to the Mars entry into Sagittarius (and Mars moves into Sagittarius only about two hours before perfection of the New Moon, suggesting that the impulse to act may come forward before the intention, the ‘why’, becomes clear). Perhaps a note to the Self reminding us that though the inner life and viewpoint seem to be of ultimate importance, even more ‘real’, during this period, we are still physical beings in a material world, so measured activity and some caution is advised.

'Le Bec de Gaz - Nuit bleue' Henri Le Sidaner 1905 {{PD}}

‘Le Bec de Gaz – Nuit bleue’ Henri Le Sidaner 1905 {{PD}}

It’s the perfect time to reach emotional balance, specifically by getting clear within our own minds on what we are dedicated to, where we are empowered to act effectively, and by following the wisdom that exists internally and that is externally offered. It’s in being sure within ourselves of where we want to spend our energy and time, and how we can best exercise our prerogatives, that we find guidance toward the smart choice, or the practical one, and so insure we have the desired impact.

If we align our mentality too closely to material matters, we may find ourselves hurting, particularly through relationships or financial matters, and it’s almost guaranteed we won’t understand why–the tendency will be to blame others or circumstances, rather than see that our own viewpoint needs adjustment (Water Grand Trine of Vesta-Juno-Pallas, Mercury at the midpoint of Vesta-Juno and opp Pallas, Merc trine Ceres, Venus qnx Chiron, Sun sesq Chiron and trine Saturn)

Look for the ‘swan element’ within your life, those things that represent beauty, purity, and the pure sensory enjoyment that comes from the Venusian aesthetic, especially through music–or just watch for swans, alerting you to synchronicities ahead.

For those born with the Sun at 10 Leo: early in your ‘new year’ you may feel emotionally confused, cut off from the feeling nature by real or imagined barriers, but soon enough you adjust, chiefly by realizing that it’s your own creative energy that’s distorting your perceptions–and that energy needs a solid outlet for expression. This may be your quest this year: to find the ‘perfect’ expressive mode for either your artistic or spiritual Beingness–everything else may take a back seat, until such expression is found. Good luck, Leo, and Happy Birthday!

Have a great start to your week!

The AstroEssence for Saturday: doing what’s smart empowers (and though you may think, Duh, of course it does! you might be surprised how often we turn away from what we know to be wise, in favor of what’s popular, fashionable, expedient, cheaper, quicker, etc). We call on our inner knowing, in order to be as effective as possible–but this only works if in thinking critically we don’t become destructive or overly focused on the pessimistic or consumed by our own rage or sense of injustice. Keep it balanced, keep it real, and put emotion on the back burner–it will only lead you wrong (Pallas trine Juno, Mercury enters Virgo and sesquiquadrates Pluto, Sun squares Black Moon Lilith)

Today’s word image is a basket of eggs–in contradiction to that saying, ‘Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.’ Though caution and alertness are still advisable, this may be a time to put all our eggs–that is, all our effort and energy investment–in a single direction. It could be we need to concentrate and push forward without distraction in order to actually achieve what we’ve been aiming at. No more meandering or slow build-up–all-out effort, carefully applied, is now called for.

For those born with the Sun at 8 Leo: as much as half your upcoming year, through to your next birthday, may be spent in the ’emotional dark’, where you may either decline to engage the emotional perceptions or where you may be flying blind, groping for some kind of realization and order connected to the feelings. Eventually, though, illumination comes, and it has tangible, material or physical results that shape your reality, likely in a very positive way. Good luck, Leo, and Happy Birthday!

The AstroEssence for Sunday: be aware that the past shapes current ambitions–and may influence negative thinking about aims and goals, as well–and that means what we assume about our wants may be mistaken, rooted in a past that no longer is. Again, smart moves that lead to empowered circumstances are possible; keep in mind that the unexpected, the revolutionary, and the modern may bring benefits but also costs, and these can easily get out-of-hand. Look for easy flow, in both positive and less useful ways, between matters of the Houses ruled by Venus and Uranus in the natal chart (SN parallel Zeus, Pallas sxt Ceres, Venus trine Uranus, Merc semi-sq Zeus)

Today’s word image is a songbird. Are you aware of the ‘song you sing’? That is, do you really know what you’re telling others, celebrating, announcing to the Universe? We’re often unaware of what we’re conveying, thinking we’re presenting one focus when many facets of which we’re unaware are seen (and responded to) by others. We may think we can consciously control what ‘comes out’, but the reality is that what we genuinely are shapes everything. The more honest we are with ourselves, the more authentic our ‘song’ becomes.

For those born with the Sun at 9 Leo: it’s easy to build what you care about this year, through to your next birthday; you have the energy and drive, and previously noted constraints and barriers seem to have fallen away. Don’t waste the opportunity to order your reality in a way that’s much closer to the ideal. Good luck, Leo, and Happy Birthday!
