Honestly, this doesn’t look too bad–which may just go to show that hell is a personal, internal creation. ‘A Soul in Hell’ By Evelyn De Morgan 1902 {{PD}}

The New Moon perfects at 4:00 AM PDT at 25 Virgo–those are some nice round numbers, aren’t they? (And as an aside, don’t read anything into that–numbers are a human-created system–there’s no mystical meaning in neither having minutes.) The NM noviles Vesta, right away telling us that what begins at this time is something that carries a spark of genius, in terms of the way it can instigate important commitments, can dedicate our energies to what really matters to us, and can bring the spiritual into interactions. What is birthed right now matters, to the Soul, to the psyche, and to the manifestations of these in the life, as they arise from our own accounting and critique (Virgo) of who we are (the Sun) and how we feel (the Moon).

The New Moon, which is of course conjoined the Sun and opposed the Earth, also happens to square the Nodal axis. The Nodes are not bodies but ‘markers’, in a sense, of the points at any one time when the Moon’s orbit crosses the ecliptic, and so can be thought of as energetic placeholders, adding depth to analysis of the Moon’s situation at any particular point, and indicating the direction of a general energy stream moving from South Node to North. Since this Grand Cross consists of the event bodies (New Moon-Sun), one that’s always linked to the Sun anyway (the ever-opposing Earth), and these extremity markers (the Nodes), no one could be faulted for thinking this isn’t truly relevant to the event–but it is, simply because this likely signals the kind of ongoing tension typical to a GC that is kicked off by the New Moon event. That is, what starts at the NM simultaneously brings forward questions of identity and role (the Sun), the past (South Node), and the direction we’re headed in life (North Node), and this happens as a logical matter of course, and again marking the depth of meaning behind the NM itself and giving events the sense that decisions and choices must be made.

The New Moon trines Pluto and is in close trine to Saturn, suggesting just how easily profound change may occur, particularly in ways that change the material reality or that create structure or limit restraints. Further, Sedna could be considered to fill in a loose Earth Grand Trine with Saturn, indicating that either our instincts and intuitive faculties, or those matters we carry in our ‘blind spot’, become instrumental in events. Do we have a choice here as to whether we get a leg up with accurate instinctual perceptions or suffer at the hands of matters we just aren’t conscious of? No, probably not, though we can do our best to stay open to change, and so to Truth–a willingness to see and know may be our most important asset.

The New Moon in Virgo forms quincunxes to the Black Moon Lilith point and to Mars, the latter of which is still stationary in Aries, poised to break backward in apparent motion. The light dawning with the New Moon may slowly begin to illuminate what we need to do about matters we’ve ignored or denied–but whether that comes as a flash of knowledge all at once, or seeps in over the coming days, can’t be known, and considering that Mars is technically already retrograde, may imply that we don’t do anything, but instead learn what must be done, and then reserve action for a later date.

The NM also makes a sesquiquadrate to Uranus. This points out to us the need to ‘make peace’ with our own uniqueness. Too often we seek to subdue, distort for acceptability’s sake, or otherwise hide what is most true to ourselves, partly out of fear: to be known and seen is to be vulnerable, and partly out of a desire to be accepted. But, this Moon event will help us see, even if it’s only in some small way, how embracing a unique part of ourselves will make us truer to who we are at a Soul level. Special note: if you have something 8 and 12 degrees Aquarius, then that natal placement fills in the base of a Fist of God with Uranus and New Moon as apex. The suggestion is that Moon events might come directly from a clash between your most unusual qualities and the natal energy as they try to ‘get along’. For you the ‘recipe’ for making the most of New Moon events very firmly rests in the need to accept something you up until now may have seen as too ‘out there’ to be incorporated as a part of the identity–but now you must find a way.

The Sabian symbol for the New Moon is, ‘A Flag At Half-Mast In Front Of A Public Building’. The editor in me wants to correct that to say ‘half-staff’ as half-mast is only shipboard–and then I wonder, is that ‘mistake’ part of the message itself? Is it meant to convey that the mourning of loss and show of respect shown by lowering a flag is actually, in some strange way, misplaced? Maybe it draws our attention to an area we have been mourning, something that brings us sadness, only to point out to us that we are sad either about the ‘wrong’ component of the situation, or that we are misunderstanding our own mourning, either the need to or the need not to (which in some circles could be seen as unacceptable and so punished). In any case, this sadness has a public component, a public ‘face’, so that we may be challenged to examine whether what we are told we should be mourning really matters to us, or whether we are mourning something else entirely in private, participating in group sadness as a way to find ‘cover’ for our real feelings. Whatever happens at the New Moon, it may involve the loss of a feeling state (real or pretend) that moves us by its subtraction closer to living a most genuine life.

Be kind to your inner child, as you help her heal. ‘(Detail of) The Doctor’ By Luke Fildes 1891 {{PD}}

The 29th is a Good Day To . . . ask yourself, ‘Why do love, money, clear communication, and personal power all seem so hard to come by today?’ The answers are found in a careful examination of the accounts (who do you feel owes you? whom do you owe?) made under this Virgo Moon, and in the myriad details that may chafe even though the larger agreement or interaction is just fine. We’re sensitive now in ways and areas that are quite typical for us–and so those wounded parts are too likely to be accepted as just what is, rather than as a spot that needs tending and that is perfectly capable of being healed, with in most instances minimal effort. Make life easier by using the Lunar energy to gain at least a somewhat objective view on your hurt, and then, do as you would counsel a friend to do, if she came to you with the same wound.

A Good Day To . . . is based on the aspects perfecting on each day, Pacific time.

By NASA Goddard Space Flight Center from Greenbelt, MD, USA – New Moon, Public Domain, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=51482526

In some places this is the second New Moon of the month, in others the Moon some saw on the 1st may have fallen on July 31st–you see the issue, which is why I don’t make much of those occasions of two New or Full Moons in a calendar month–they don’t hold everywhere, and only apply if one uses the current calendar–which of course is a man-made device, not a naturally-occurring one. So, forgive me if I’m not kvelling 🙂

The New Moon falls at 6 Virgo 46 at 3:36 AM Pacific time on August 30th. This duo (Moon and Sun) is chasing Mars, soon to catch him, and can also be considered widely conjoined Juno, Mercury, and Venus, as well, all in Virgo. This cuts a wide swath just a hair over 9 degrees wide, end to end, with the New Moon close to the midpoint. A New Moon in Virgo brings a new way of thinking or observing critically, making discernment, judgment, and efforts leading to reward and appropriate sharing the centerpieces of what’s begun here. In concert with so many other influences, the New Moon viewpoint may feel pervasive; the focus may be on what is ‘natural’ (in the Virgoan ‘Harvest’ sense, particularly in matters of the natal House where the New Moon occurs), and what’s needed to make that happen at an optimum level. We’ll be seeking personal empowerment through critical and corrective thought and action, particularly that which offers reward. And certainly, what we’re trying to achieve, one way or another, is worthy–but will we succeed?

The New Moon forms the arm to a T-square on the Hygeia-Ceres opposition (a Grand Cross, if we include Earth). The T suggests agricultural upsets, climate issues, environmental poisonings, natural disasters–as if we can’t point to dozens of these matters already–they didn’t wait for the New Moon to manifest, but they may take on new urgency, and we may gain a dawning new awareness of them, drawing much more of our attention as we watch them wax along with the Lunar energies. Personal manifestations may include onsets of allergies, asthma, dietary issues or responses, and much more noticeable links among health, our environment, and specifically how much we may be able (or unable) to affect things.

‘Ceres’ By Osmar Schindler c1902 {{PD}}

The Sun-Moon square Hygeia also forms the base for a Fist of God, apex Pluto, once again pointing to a crisis situation involving the health–and whether it’s the health of the planet or our own personal well-being, the pressure of crisis elicits either a destructive response or a transformative one, the latter offering the hope of an environmental or health-centered phoenix rising from the current ashes.

On top of all this the New Moon is trine Uranus and quincunx Chiron, suggesting that the unexpected surprises or delivers a bolt of understanding, and this either injures or calls forward our unique Chirotic skills. It may be that New Moon events or revelations lead us into a new, more active role in dealing with larger issues, whether they center on dealing more effectively with personal challenges to health or with challenges to the health of the whole damn planet. Via a lightning bolt of revelation, understanding, or sheer shock, the New Moon is bound to mobilize us, mentally and physically, in support of our values, in a way we weren’t ‘in motion’ before. Too, when we add New Moon aspect meaning to the Sabian, what we may find is how inextricable our place in the larger scheme really is. All we control is ourselves, within that defined space we occupy and can affect–this NM may point us toward our best, most effective impact, for both the individual and the Collective.

‘The Harem’ By Émile Bernard pre-1941 {{PD}}

The Sabian for the new Moon is, ‘A Harem’. Though we find the existence of a harem regressive, even offensive, today, we might do best with this image to define it not as captive sex slaves or something equally sensational and canted toward the exploitative, but as a cooperative living arrangement for women of a certain privileged status due to their relationship with a powerful Other. In that sense, harems are the province of Venus, in some guises, and most especially Juno, as status and power derived through the partner are two of her most prominent characteristics. As a symbol of New Moon events, then, this might signal that empowerment may be most effectively found within a role or status we already hold, particularly one that may otherwise feel restrictive or exploitative, one where we ultimately might wish for more freedom, but find current relationships (or even survival) require we continue in this function. When we look at it this way, we can see this could apply to the web-like restrictions of the social sphere, family, or even the need to make a living–whatever it is that both ‘protects’ us (offering benefit in some form) and concurrently proscribes, for good or ill, our movement.

See the forecast for the 29th and birthday for 6 Virgo here—

Good day to . . . start something new that requires energy, concentration, attention to detail, persistence, especially if this speaks to fulfilling some ideal. Good time to also take corrective measures with health/ diet.

For those born with the Sun at 07 Virgo. Check your natal chart for the correct Sun degree (you may want to read both the degree number and the one that follows, if you have minutes on your Sun position–together these offer a more complete picture of your year ahead). You may feel a lot like a Warrior this coming solar year, through to your next birthday, dear Virgo, and if you don’t, you may just be angry or highly motivated! In any case, you’ll have an enormous amount of energy, drive, and attention best applied to fighting for a cause, moving forward in life, and/ or in dealing with the matters of the natal House ruled by Mars. You’ve got the guts, and may earn the glory, if you can observe successfully a few rules: control and refine all energy expression–to fail this invites chaos and accident, but to do it inspires invention, innovation, originality, and may place you in a leadership role, well-deserved, should it come to you; cooperative arrangements can be very good–trust, but verify, to avoid surprises; and face health matters head-on–attend to them, because something dealt with now won’t flare up bigger and badder later. Good luck!

Full Moon in Virgo 19 February 2019 Molten

‘The Heart of a Volcano Under a Full Moon’ By Jules Tavernier 1888 {{PD}}

I think we might all need this forecast a little early, so here it is.

The Full Moon perfects at 00 Virgo 42 at 7:53 AM PST, sextile a 29-degree Pallas in Libra, sesquiquadrate Saturn, quincunx Chiron, and trine a 29-degree Uranus in Aries and Mars in Taurus, and square Juno (a T-square with the Sun-Earth-Moon axis). If we thought we were going to get a definitive ending to something, we may find instead that we get a setting-straight, or maybe a dressing-down, a full accounting that shakes off all illusion and calls us on the carpet to defend our use of our own power, to stand up for our choices, and to verify the effectiveness with which we’ve carried out our roles. It’s not pretty; some make the unwise move of throwing partners under the bus, feeling they have no choice, while others rebel against all responsibility, insisting they can’t answer for themselves, much less lead others, and a third group buries themselves in sensual escape. You can’t blame anyone, really–we were all ready to blow, and someone or some thing came along and made it happen.

We may suffer a molten combination of stress, expectations, and accumulated hurt. We just want to do something to feel better, to alleviate tension, and what we get instead is our inventory taken–and whether that’s by an individual or the world at large, it probably strikes us as 1) inevitable, and 2) unfair. What’s the real issue? We’ve failed to keep careful track of the reality picture, and worse, we’ve failed to maintain reasonable boundaries. All that hot trouble has seeped under our defenses, come in through the keyholes and cracks, and now, in typical Virgoan fashion, it comes as a scalding critique.

Don’t worry; the sources of our discomfort exist under their own stressful conditions–and in truth, we may be playing the same role of inquisitor for someone else. It’s the circle of life, kids–we all take our turn in the cauldron.

The Sabian for this Full Moon is, ‘In A Portrait, The Significant Features Of A Man’s Head Are Artistically Emphasized’. I think this tells us that Full Moon events, rather than being an injustice, will actually be showing us a representation of ourselves, with some features emphasized so that we get the message. We should look at the Sun’s Sabian, as well, since it’s the source of our Lunar light in the first place. ‘In A Crowded Marketplace Farmers And Middlemen Display A Great Variety Of Products’. This suggests to me that the cause of our Full Moon experience was triggered by our own attempts to ‘sell’ something about ourselves to another–and that triggered the assessment shared by others that allows us, in the typical generous way of the Universe, to see ourselves in a different light, if not, indeed, in the exact way others sometimes see us.

So what’s the goal of all this? Maybe it’s found in the quincunx the Full Moon makes to Chiron, freshly back in Aries and informing us loud and clear about our responsibility and leadership issues. This is the closest aspect the Full Moon makes, and may suggest that what we really need to go forward is to adjust our sensitivity levels, to let go of as many hurts as we can around the ‘I Am’. Our personal Chiron effect as it left Pisces may have been that we accidentally slogged along with us perceptions of Collective injury (the eco-system and the cries of a dying planet, oppressive and non-representative politics, unnecessary scarcities as the well-off withhold) generating stress as we mistake them for personal inadequacies and shortcomings of ourselves or others–and with the Full Moon we look at the world and demand, ‘Do something about that!’ Not the way to approach it, but we’ll find out soon enough.

And, we live and learn.

New Moon 9 September 2018 Virgin Sacrifice

By John Fowler from Placitas, NM, USA – Temples and Towers of the VirginUploaded by PDTillman, CC BY 2.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=29614020

The New Moon occurs at 11:01 AM PDT at precisely 17 Virgo, opposed Neptune, sextile Jupiter, trine Pluto, and is apex to a Fist of God (Thor’s Hammer, for Nordic purists) with base of Black Moon Lilith square Uranus. The Sabian for the New Moon is, ‘A Volcanic Eruption’ (and here’s why we read the Sabian for 17 Virgo, rather than reading 18 Virgo as we would if the event occurred even one minute later). Taken all together, we have to ask ourselves, What is it we need to sacrifice, let go of, or otherwise release, in order to honor humanity’s primal urge to appease forces mightier than we?

Contacts to the New Moon suggest we are already as far from illusion as we can get (opp Neptune–though this doesn’t take into account the individual capacity to fool oneself–so, if you’re firmly committed to a delusion, this won’t change things, but if you’re still in touch with reality, you stand on relatively firm ground); that the social sphere or ‘the facts’ (Jupiter) require/ facilitate change, destruction, removal, or transformation (Pluto); and that this need for change may spring from those matters we’ve ignored or denied (BML) clashing (the square) with our need to individuate, to proclaim our place within the group, or to upset through rebellion, revolution, invention, innovation, or original (Uranus) ideas or concepts introduced via our ‘shaking’ of the social apple cart.

A New Moon happening in Virgo automatically asks for a new start that makes us accountable, and calls for the paring away of what is extraneous, once we’ve critiqued the life. The Virgin of the sign paired with the symbol of the erupting volcano says that crisis forces action, or at least a response we hope will alleviate the pressure. That may be an illusion, a superstition–and yet, the ‘giving away’ (that is, sacrifice) of something we find precious, useful, productive, that holds potentials, is a true sacrifice; typically we only let go of what we no longer need, no longer find of value, and that means, no matter how generous, it’s not a sacrifice at all. With this New Moon, we may be asked to acknowledge what we’ve avoided, to change what needs transforming, and to embrace something unique within ourselves and put that center stage in the life, perhaps for a time allowing it to define us, in service to, and response to, something greater than we. What we give up, contribute, or let go in the hope of bettering things may be something we value–in fact, it has to be, or our efforts to satisfy the emotional call of the New Moon will go unanswered.

Bonus: a natal placement at 16 Taurus 30 to 19 Taurus 30 fills in an Earth Grand Trine with Pluto and the New Moon–your sacrifice may be larger, more definitive, or more final than most, and may carry the essence of the natal planet or point contacted.

Also, a natal placement at 16-19 Aries is apex to a Finger of God with base of the New Moon and Jupiter. This suggests that New Moon efforts on the social scene, or based on what you learn at this time, may prompt a ‘new start’ in terms of the contacted planet or point.

Have a wonderful and safe New Moon!

Full Moon in Virgo March 2018 Seeing Inside the Machine

Charles Hoguet ‘By the Windmill’ 1870 {{PD}}

The Full Moon occurs at 4:50 PM PST March 1st at 11 Virgo 22. A Virgo Full Moon promises we’ll get the details, that we’ll receive an accounting, that the means of production (to borrow an old, reddish phrase) will be clear, and all of it allows us to make critical decisions, to apply a discerning eye to what culminates, concludes, or reaches a ‘full’ point of assessment, creating a need to be judged so that the next step can be taken, or at least mulled over. With a FM in Virgo, we see inside the machine–but the Moon is central to what happens, so does the machine see inside us as well, via our emotions or an intuitive exchange of information or ideas? Yes, it does, and this allows the machine to read us, to shape what it creates according to our spiritual orientation, our imaginings, our ideals, our beliefs.

The machine, of course, is the Universe, but we’re unlikely to recognize it as such. The FM opposition to Neptune (meaning the Sun and Neptune are conjoined, perfecting two days or so post-FM) suggests we look out from our emotional or intuitive ‘read’ of the Full Moon experience and we see whatever it is we want to see–or at least, what we see takes a form that is meaningful to us–as this may appear to be an accident, a shock or surprise, or something foisted on us by the group, a modern concept or convention that we are required to follow, if we don’t want to be left behind, if we want to remain a part of the Collective (Sun-Neptune in Pisces, FM sesquiquadrate Uranus). For those focused on the Virgoan energy, this may present a time machine, of sorts, where a review of the past shows how we got to the present, and in certain ways offers a ‘do-over’; for those focused on the opposing Piscean energy, this may present a timeless machine, losing the particularity of the Full Moon within the larger Cosmos, a kind of ‘seeing and realizing All at once’ experience.

The FM also trines the Black Moon Lilith point, and with generous orbs we could call this an Earth Grand Trine with Pallas; this points us toward the nature of the material effect we might get from the FM event. It suggests that what we’ve ignored, denied, or been enraged over (BML) is a factor in what culminates at the Full Moon, and that ultimately this delivers a balanced material result that is wise, practical, or both (Pallas). What we see in material terms is a response; what we’ve done, or not done, is made apparent, and in some form, judged.

Gertrude Käsebier ‘The Bride’ 1901 {{PD}}

The Sabian for the Full Moon is, ‘After The Wedding, The Groom Snatches The Veil Away From His Bride’. It’s the ‘Big Reveal’; what did our past efforts bring us? And immediately our critical faculties kick in, assessing what we’ve got. Maybe pleasing, maybe not, but we must consider that perhaps the very act of judgment isn’t pretty, either, and perhaps beside the point, as the action’s already complete.

We also look at the Sun for a Full Moon. ‘In The Sanctuary Of An Occult Brotherhood, Newly Initiated Members Are Being Examined And Their Character Tested’. Maybe this Moon is a kind of lesson, one that reminds us our sanctuary is found within the machine, not in some rarefied and separated corner of the Universe. Certainly, how we respond to what we’re presented with will say a great deal about character and attitude. Sometimes it’s hard to remember that it’s all a spiritual experience; the material and physical can overwhelm us through the senses, driving out consciousness of the spiritual underpinnings beneath. So, the Full Moon becomes a point of personal reckoning, a statement about our relationship to All-That-Is, on top of any worldly results gleaned.

New Moon in Virgo 19 September 2017 To Serve Man

The Enchanted Garden of Messer Ansaldo by Marie Spartali Stillman (1889) {{PD}}

Many of you will recognize this article’s title from an old Twilight Zone episode, where humans eventually realize that extraterrestrials who arrived carrying a book titled ‘To Serve Man’ haven’t come to offer altruistic aid, which is humanity’s first, Self-serving assumption. Too late it’s discovered that the tome is, rather than instructions for actually a cookbook, and we’re all on the menu! I’ve been seeing something like this all around lately, a dogged attempt at interpreting actions and events as ‘for our own good’, one way or another, when in fact those choices are serving only the perpetrators. Is there anything wrong with serving one’s own needs and agenda? Of course not–it’s true that our primary responsibility is to look out for ourselves–it’s the presentation of selfish choices in a way meant to lull others into feeling cared for, to deceive concerning the intentions behind what’s said or done, that are the problem.

We may have accepted the unacceptable in particular over the weekend, and during the Monday and Tuesday preceding the New Moon. The Dark period often makes us unintentionally receptive, the mind and psyche open, either from a sense of relaxation or a sense of unguardedness. Sometimes we feel extra-alert in that figurative darkness (when the transiting Moon is contacting sensitive natal bodies or territory as it approaches the Sun), but more often we feel adrift, and so unable to resist what comes at us; sometimes this is a good thing, as we absorb information that otherwise might not be available to us, and potentially a bad thing, as we receive influences without our usual critical assessment.

What does all this have to do with the New Moon in Virgo, occurring at 10:30 PM Pacific time of the 19th? Everything, really, as we see a New Moon in Virgo brings new, productively-oriented beginnings–and what prompts those beginnings may have been influenced by Dark of the Moon material. Again, this may not be a problem, as it could’ve acted to lower our barriers and quiet critical resistance to our creativity and imagination–but it also may have ‘let in’ things that tailor our new start more to the interests of others than to our own wants and needs.

Since the tone of Virgo is one of service, we may find we need to ask ourselves one defining question about what originates around this time: For whom am I doing this? If you do it for yourself, fine; if you do it in pure service to others, also fine; but if you do it unsure of what motivates you, you may do best to stop and sort it out, or risk creating something that’s more burden than benefit.

The New Moon perfects at 27 Virgo 27, widely conjoined Vesta in Libra, and opposed both Earth (natch) and Chiron. The NM also sextiles Ceres, widely squares Black Moon Lilith, sesquiquadrates Pallas, trines Sedna, with its closest aspect a quincunx to Uranus. (This is where I might also point out the Finger of God that, though not connected directly to the New Moon, still may poke us in the eye: Sedna sextile Earth-Chiron, apex Jupiter=if we can get the instincts and material skills to work together, we make something larger than the sum of its parts–a challenge that might apply to whatever we instigate at this point, and that we must be aware can get away from us, overwhelming our control or understanding, at any time).

The aspects suggest the New Moon ‘births’ something we dedicate ourselves to, that reflects our highest values (and again, we see the need to know why and for whom we are acting, as new commitments and obligations, especially to others, are a distinct possibility–Vesta in Libra). The caution comes in the opposition of Chiron, suggesting we may be in denial of, or out of touch with, our own wounds, substantially upping the chances of us being insensitive to our needs (or even to martyring ourselves–Chiron in Pisces).

The square to BML describes tension over things that enrage us, or over injustice or things we are in denial of–again, a ‘looking away’ or separative element to what we do, or how we see or process events, that suggests we observe and react to the wrong without actually doing anything–though the sextile to Ceres and trine to Sedna both promise we can connect to informative energies through our natural roles and sources of power, especially those attuned to Mother Nature and her rhythms and cycles. We can trust our own natural authority as our guide, and we’ll need to; the sesquiquadrate to Pallas and the quincunx to Uranus imply difficulty using the intellect to discern what’s wise, what’s smart, what’s ‘right’, and this can contribute situations where we must draw on skills in times of sudden opportunity or, more likely, sudden stress.

The Sabian for the New Moon is, ‘A Baldheaded Man Who Has Seized Power’. The image is one not just of taking power for oneself, it conveys natural power, akin to that which we find in Black Moon Lilith, Ceres, Pallas, and Sedna, derived in the image via the high testosterone levels we now know cause baldness. The NM meeting of Moon and Sun suggests a blending of male and female, with the Sabian providing a male image of power, overt in its expression, while the connections of the New Moon provide a picture largely of female power, or at least power represented in various female forms, a more receptive and emotionally perceptive energy.

The New Moon, then, brings us all a chance to dedicate ourselves in some kind of service, and we may become powerful in the process, though one of the challenges is to be as aware as possible of not just who we are serving, but how and where the power to serve and be served is derived, in growing this New Moon seed of Higher Consciousness.

Annie Louisa Swynnerton (née Robinson) – ‘The Sense of Sight’ 1894 {{PD}}

The Full Moon in Virgo falls on the 12th at 22 Virgo 13 at 7:54 AM PDT; it fills in a loose Earth Grand Trine with Sedna and Pluto, opposes Pallas and Chiron, quincunxes Uranus, and sextiles Vesta. The Grand Trine promises that whatever is fulfilled, concludes, ends, or reaches its apex with this Full Moon will bring a state of stability (meaning remain as it is, or as it coalesces at this point) through (get ready for the paradox!) acceptance of change and instinctive responses to it. I know! Seems contradictory to say that circumstances of transition and embrace of instincts (including instinctive understanding and knowledge) can bring about a sense of security, ease with circumstances, and a stable picture of and relationship to the environment/ material situation, but it does–and this endows us with a sense of surety, of ‘knowing’ deep within, that allows us to handle challenges related to practicality, what we would typically think of as wise or smart options, and allow us to navigate potential hurt. We may be faced with wounding circumstances or those who oppose us out of a sheer sense of superiority, who try to control us through our wounds, and we may be told we aren’t wise enough to make our own choices–and this would be oh-so-wrong. Being willing to follow our own lead is important; so is holding fast to what we honor and find sacred. We must make our choices, original or rebellious as they may be, in alignment with our values, with what we care about–and then we go forward from there.

The Sabian for the Full Moon is, ‘A Lion Tamer Displays His Skill And Character’. I associate this symbol strongly with the FM’s quincunx to Uranus in Aries; that is the closest major aspect the Full Moon makes. We as individuals are the Lion Tamer in our own lives; we control the whip (our Will) and chair (how we ‘furnish’ our lives), taking the lead (Aries), acting (Aries) in ways that spring from and also reveal our skills and character (Uranus). Awareness that we are the source of our own situation is vital; Self-responsibility and the roles we have taken on, willingly or not, must be (and likely will be) magnified within our own perceptions at this time, so that we can truly and completely understand and accept our part in our own creation–that is, our formulation of ourselves, and our world.

We may be overloaded on Pisces energy right now, looking for the concrete, the actionable, the thing we can hold in our hand; this Moon in Virgo delivers it to us, and your first hint that you’re dealing with the current Lunar energy may come through a criticism, a demand for accountability, a health or dietary matter, or enmeshment in the details of some issue. That’s your clue that, going forward, it’s all about You.

‘Woman Reading a Letter’ 1660-1662 Gerard ter Borch {{PD}}

The Full Moon occurs at 10:19 AM PST at 3 Virgo 33. A Full Moon is an ending, a culmination of what came before both in the passage of time and in the emotional history, and signals a conclusion, especially a conclusion of feeling based in the Moon (emotions) reaching a point of maximum visibility. We tend to see the point of things, to realize that the situation is complete, over, no longer viable. And we let it go, or we allow the conclusions reached to fuel change.

This Full Moon is semi-square Zeus, yet too wide for us to count a quincunx with Venus, though we might need to count the exceptionally wide (for a Moon event) opposition of the Moon-Earth to Sun-Neptune-Ceres, with the latter two only 29 minutes apart at 9 Pisces. The mild but noticeable contact to Zeus implies that ambitions or the desire nature are receiving some sort of answer, with FM events pointing to an end place for something we want–and of course, this can be because we get it, or because we don’t, and see that it will never be ours.

The Moon-Sun complex suggests this: what has pushed us forward has been some combination of creative energy, delusion, lies, spiritual quest, ideals, power needs, authority issues, a search to establish territory, and the desire to control. These have formed the fait accompli we see with the Full Moon, with its Virgo location suggesting practical results, an accounting, and/ or a harvest.

The FM Sabian is, ‘Black And White Children Play Together Happily’, clearly a suggestion that the FM brings a state of integration, harmony, balance, parity. Whether this is internal or external for you depends generally on whether the FM falls below the horizon (internal) or above the horizon (external) in the natal chart.

For a Full Moon we also look at the Sun’s Sabian, as the Sun is, after all, the symbolic source for the energy that creates FM circumstances (as well as the literal agent of light): ‘Heavy Car Traffic On A Narrow Isthmus Linking Two Seashore Resorts’ This again brings forward the idea of happiness or play (the resorts), linked by movement between them (a kind of sharing of like material, symbolized by the people we can assume are traveling in the cars). The idea may be that it’s in making the effort to get together in the first place that the two opposing or disparate elements (symbolized by the Black and White Children) find a way to happily interact, and pinpoint commonalities.

The star of the show, however, is a loose Fist of God (or Thor’s Hammer, for the Nordic enthusiasts among us) that names the FM apex with a base of long-term on again, off again Cardinal square Pluto-Uranus. This square has been analyzed to death, and though it takes a particular form for each individual, we can say this: the forces of individuality and/ or the group in relation to the individual, and facets of uniqueness, originality, and rebellion are awakened in service to the individual Will or identity (Aries), and clash with, not the need for change, but the actual changes themselves (a fine point, but an important one) in any and all structures, rules, and boundaries related to Capricorn and the House containing transiting Pluto, as well as the House it rules natally, in the chart.

So, it’s the changes that the individual responds to that go on to create even further change, new rules, new boundaries, new structures, that help shape the individuality and allow harmonious interaction with factors from which one once remained separate, and the Full Moon events comment on this: we see some conclusion related to integration of disparate elements that’s either practical, draws criticism, or in either positive or negative form is a kind of ‘harvest’ (which is simply the result of what’s been ‘planted’ previously). This Full Moon may reveal what we have constructed from our own unique sensibilities in response to changes in the rules and structures within which we normally function. We have made it work, as Mr. Gunn says, though it hasn’t been easy (or perhaps not–we may simply take a pounding–the Fist); but with this FM event we get an answer that acts as a conclusion: to a dream, to a lie, to a desire, and from there we must determine our next step.
