Moon in Virgo, My Daily Astrology Diary, The Astro Essence

Klimt 'Cradle' c.1910 {{PD-Art}}

Void begins at 8:28 AM PDT, with the Moon entering Virgo at 12:33 PM PDT.  As always, first things we must deal with these days are Neptune (opposed) and Jupiter (trine), and both are fresh and a little chappy, like a newborn’s behind–no matter how we try to soothe them, to ease into the energies, we’re likely to find them just a touch fussy. The Virgo Moon may want to apply her well-developed (like muscles!!) critical faculties to imaginative ventures, creative projects, or in assessing ideals–and that just won’t go over well with a Neptune that wants only to be immersed in his own nebulous, creative, but detached-from-reality viewpoint. Neptune in Pisces insists on being embraced in an All-is-One, no boundaries way, and the Virgo Moon finds that, well, maybe a little frightening; the Moon needs at this time to take an accounting, to know exactly where she stands–and Neptune will allow none of it.

As to Jupiter, this aspect suggests that the drama between the Moon and Neptune will pour out right into the social sphere–get it? Pour, sphere? Like a huge fishbowl, we’ll find our creative conflicts and the space between our needs and our ideals on display in our typical social arena. That’s no fun, but the social sphere will be more sympathetic to the Virgoan needs than we might at first think, and that means we need not suffer embarrassment or feel that we’ll be seen as low on Neptune (dull and lacking creativity)–there will be an understanding that pinning down the material particulars is necessary–in fact, many may find an acknowledgment that we can’t be creative without them.

The Essence for 13 May 2011: Emotional Equilibrium

Finger of God, Moon in Libra, Moon in Virgo, My Daily Astrology Diary, The Astro Essence

Massys 1514 {{PD-Art}} via Wikimedia Commons

By 2:30 AM PDT the Moon quincunxes the Mercury/ Venus conjunction, which is very close at this point. This contact offers an emotional check-up on the way in which the matters of the (typically) four Houses of the natal chart (those ruled by Mercury and Venus) are affected; some combination of the subjects of these Houses comes forward and commands our attention. This can be a huge distraction, as we aren’t likely to immediately recognize this as a message concerning what we really care about, and how we should go about protecting it (Aries placement)–but that’s what it is.

Void begins 4:04 AM PDT, with the Moon entering Libra at 8:57 AM PDT. This right away casts the Moon as the apex of a Finger of God with base of Neptune in Pisces and Mars in Taurus. This last through 12:30 PM Pacific or so, and suggests that successfully utilizing our creative energy is the key to emotional equilibrium–balance within ourselves and balance in partnership or other interaction is achievable only if we are able to actively channel the creative and imaginative urge effectively. If we don’t, we’re liable to be very frustrated, and end up lashing out, swinging between extremes, or behaving in either a totally ‘dead to emotion’ manner, or as manic and out-of-control, pursuing delusions.

Just after 8 PM PDT the Moon squares Pluto; these are in Cardinal signs, and we’d better remember that, as the two energies conflict over exactly how much the emotional landscape must be dug up. We can be excessively tempted to destroy relationships or artistic creations at this point–hold back, don’t indulge–things ruined now are unlikely to be repairable.

Check out this fascinating post over at Stars Over Washington

And to subscribers who’ve asked about the ‘Spain Dream’ featured in the latest EXTRA! No, I did not know about the earthquake for several hours after that was written and sent–and even after I heard about it, it didn’t occur to me that they were linked!

The Essence for 12 May 2011: An Emotional Blind

'Mr and Mrs Andrews' have clearly foregone the blind and are doing their hunting out in the open. Gainsborough c.1760 {{PD-Art}} via Wikimedia Commons

5 AM PDT of the 12th the Moon quincunxes Vesta in Aquarius. The emotional reality may be challenged by the highest ideals and all matters sacred; Adjustment is the best course here–living up to your ‘best Self’ insures no bad aftertaste :)   By 7 AM PDT the Moon is conjunct Juno and quincunx Pallas; this makes us feel, well, emotionally invincible–and yet a soft, interior voice tells us we need to adjust our attitude ‘just so’ in order to remain on the ‘wisdom path.’ Don’t be too proud, or too convinced that inflexibility equals strength, to take advantage of that subtle but very smart guidance.

Just after 6 PM Pacific the Moon trines the Sun in Earth. It’s a point in the day to enjoy your surroundings, eat a good meal, see to your own and others’ physical comfort. This can be a respite that allows regeneration and true rest; no matter what you’re doing at this point, I hope you’ll do something that allows rejuvenation. By 8 PM the Moon trines Sedna, and suddenly we’re in an emotional blind; we may be keenly aware that, like hunters hiding, waiting for prey, we are peering out but we, and our emotional perceptions, really can’t be seen by others–and that may feel lonely and a bit disorienting. Relax, and occupy yourself–like all Moon aspects, this passes with only a few hours effect.

A hunter’s blind is a shelter usually constructed of natural materials, intended to blend into nature, that is located in an area where wildlife is known to gather, and allows hunters to be in close proximity to their prey.

The Essence for 11 May: Meet the Universe, Your Accountant

Vermeer 'Lady Writing a Letter with her Maid' c.1670 at the National Museum of Ireland, Dublin

7 PM Pacific and the Virgo Moon trines Pluto. Change, even transformation, is easy, if we can allow the Universe to be our accountant; nature, or the flow of life energy, will take care of the details, if only we let it happen. Otherwise we may dig too deeply with well-meant (but harshly received) criticism, or bury our chance at reformation or re-birth in a pile of meaningless paperwork (real or symbolic). Keep your eye on the prize, and your ultimate wish for how things ought to be centered in your vision–that’s really all you have to do, to make it a reality.

Maybe staying a little bit apart is the way to go today. Pieter Janssens Elinga c.1660 {{PD-Art}}

11 AM PDT the Moon trines Pluto–we can do emotional housecleaning efficiently and effectively–and if we’re looking to change our feelings about someone or something, this is the time when it can be easily accomplished (providing we really do want to change!) An opposition of the Moon to Ceres swings into view around 12:30 PM PDT, and our intuitive or emotional perception may confront or be confronted by authorities of one kind or another, or we may be challenged by the need to negotiate–and we may not be in the mood :) Moon quincunx Mars at 2:30 PM-ish may bleed over into the Ceres contact and make us very aggressive when those authorities get in our faces (for that’s what it will feel like, as if they’re aggressing); then we will be determined to assert ourselves, whether that makes sense or not and whether that is appropriate or not–so if we can channel our energy before noon Pacific we will likely be involved in productive efforts and skip the stress and potential hurt and drama.

The Essence for 13 April 2011: Hot, Salty Communication Freedom (+ Added Material)

Moon in Leo, Moon in Virgo, My Daily Astrology Diary, The Astro Essence

JL Kimmel '4th of July in Philadelphia' {{PD-Art}} via Wikimedia Commons

1:30 AM PDT of the 13th the Moon trines retro Mercury, Fire to Fire. It may be easy to speak passionately–just remember that Jupiter is still relatively close to Merc, and may cause us to overdo or grossly exaggerate. Speak your truth, show your passion, but don’t add that extra flourish, if tempted–it could be something you’d like to erase from memory and the ether, later! A 4 AM PDT trine to Jupiter really tests our Self-control, especially in the social sphere–but may also function to ‘get the word out,’ and allow for hot, salty communication freedom!

7 AM Pacific the Leo Moon quincunxes Venus in Pisces; we may be very hard on ourselves as we try to measure up to the ideal of Love (this may give a taste of what’s to come with the Full Moon–see current newsletter #5). Harsh judgment of the Self isn’t necessary; Leo Moon, plus all those energies in Aries (Uranus, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Sun) all say that Self-awareness and conscious attention to personal needs should be capturing a large portion of our thought and effort right now.

ADDED: Thought this was important enough to add: The Moon enters Virgo at 11:40 PM Pacific–and shifts our thinking just a little bit toward the details, who’s responsible for what, and what we might get for our efforts. Immediately on entry the Moon opposes Neptune–with both entities at 00 of their respective signs, we may confront the dream with the emotional reality–and one or the other is likely to come up lacking. Since this opposition kicks off the Moon’s transit of Virgo, Neptune’s dreamy, confusing fogginess will linger–we may be struggling to stay ‘awake,’ completely puzzled by any number of issues, or subject to the weaving of stories and illusion–so take care.

The Full Moon, March 2011, ‘Birthing Uranus in Aries’

19 Saturday Mar 2011

Until he's 'birthed,' revealing himself, Uranus in Aries may be very much like an iceberg, with the majority of his energy hidden Frederic Church {{PD-Art}}

Virgo Full Moon arrives at 11:09 AM on the 19th at 28 Virgo 47.  We find the Nodal axis still within the Cross and Neptune/ Ceres at 29 Aquarius quincunx the Full Moon and Earth, and Uranus is opposed the Full Moon (and so conjunct the Sun) from the Aries Point–and those are our only aspects, but oh, what aspects!

A Full Moon is a culmination of energies; we all know this, right? The problem is that we say that but may not recognize that culminations mean endings, but that we don’t or won’t necessarily recognize an ending when we see it! This is one of the weaknesses of monitoring our own energies with astrology:  we are in danger of expecting certain things–and along with expectations come assumptions about what those things will look like. So, to let go of our assumptions may play a big part in successfully knowing what is coming to an end–and that may not be easy with the pressure of the Nodes in play (forcing the attention toward our destined direction–about which of course we carry even more assumptions!), with the rebellious energies of Uranus trained on expressing individuality (and as a consequence failing to look beyond the Self), and with the involvement of Neptune/ Ceres, calling forward every fantasy, delusion, and mommy or authority issue in our repertoire. So that’s the challenge with these aspects: if we meet them in a mundane way, in an ordinary state of mind, they act as more of a distraction from the ‘business’ of the Full Moon than anything else.

The Sabian tells us how important it is that we meet this energy in an ‘elevated’ state of mind. The symbol for the Full Moon is ‘A Seeker After Occult Knowledge Is Reading An Ancient Scroll Which Illumines His Mind’  The symbol implies that the Full Moon holds the promise of a means of discovering hidden spiritual knowledge, as we act in the role of Seeker. But, this knowledge is a finalization, a conclusion, a putting-together of what we’ve been gathering, discovering, or seeking, perhaps our entire lives.

The illumination a Full Moon brings to Earth (our material circumstances) this time around is not only in opposition to consciousness (the Sun) as usual (meaning that the culmination indicated comes about without great conscious effort on our part–it brings to an end matters as part of a natural cycle, rather than because of our doing), but is also in opposition to Higher Mind (Uranus)–and this suggests that, though we need to meet the Full Moon energy in an elevated state of mind, what we observe as the result may be decidedly mundane–and this means that we may not recognize the culmination as what it really is, the accumulation of our seeking efforts as they play out through these particular influences. Even more vital to note, this Moon may trigger the ‘birth’ of Uranus in Aries–it may, through a mechanism of conclusion or ending, ‘make room’ for the Uranus in Aries manifestation in our lives.

The Essence for 18 March 2011: A Conversation to Avoid

Sometimes what you intend to embrace just squirms loose Mary Cassatt c1896 {{PD-Art}}

Just after 7 AM Pacific the Virgo Moon quincunxes Jupiter, suggesting some emotional turmoil related to the social sphere, or to our attempts to expand our emotional reach. We might want to take society in our arms and tell it everything will be all right–but of course, society would just wriggle loose like a squirmy toddler and run away! We may feel frustrated by the ‘misses’ that are the result of our attempts to set things right on the big scene, but the reality is we’re taking on too much–it’s not our job to fix society–but with this Moon we may be more than ready to tell society what’s wrong with it!

2-ish in the afternoon Pacific the Moon quincunxes Merc in Aries–and two energies gab like the dickens at each other, one aggressive and one emotionally overwrought–and neither making much sense or headway. Better to decline involvement in this conversation.

Just prior to 7 PM PDT the Moon opposes Mars–hmmm, same conversation, but switching gears: this time the aggressive one cloaks himself in New Age rhetoric or talk of Universal brotherhood, while the Moon still finds a great deal to criticize. Again, not worth your time, as nothing gets sorted out and everyone involved ends up frustrated. By 9:30 PM PDT the Moon quincunxes Venus, suggesting that our enjoyment rests on our willingness to be flexible about what we consider happiness-inducing, as a reward, or as valuable.

The Essence for 17 March 2011: Irritability, Flexibility

Balance is what counts G. Seurat 1892 {{PD-Art}}

By 12:30 PM Pacific the Moon in Leo is opposed Neptune, sending some to a fantasy-land retreat while others defiantly express ideals and others refuse to be mislead–it’s a variety of responses that once again have more focus on the Self and the need to respond from what seems to be a position where one wears ‘emotional blinders’ (those things horses wear to keep them from being spooked–it fixes their attention on the road in front of them, and that’s what these aspects are doing for us, allowing us to experience an emotional Self-expression that we rarely have the mental or social ‘space’ to indulge in.)

5 PM PDT the Virgo Moon opposes Chiron in Pisces; why doesn’t the Collective refrain feel healing? Everyone’s making the right noises, but somehow the emotional nature is unable to take expressions of Piscean Oneness at face value. Criticism is the natural, opposite response–though to let others know how we feel is unnecessary–better to chalk it up to irritability, and move on, while realizing that our song is making others feel the same irritability! Simultaneous to this the Moon is also making a quincunx to Pallas, suggesting that such adjustments are smart; Self-control and discretion are never wasted.

Don’t be afraid to extend yesterday’s prescription under ‘A Body at Rest’ into today, if need be. Interaction with prevailing energies is always a choice, one from which we can retreat if we so choose.

The Essence for 19 February 2011: Fuel for Fencing

'I Shall Conquer This' Rowlandson 1787 {{PD}}

By 6:30 PM Pacific the Moon is conjunct Juno, and quincunx Mercury–this could indicate a little verbal fencing in an attempt to establish a power position. Will this be harmless? No, first off because the emotions are seated in the material situation (Virgo Earth) so that any insecurities in this regard come to the surface and fuel the aggression–then we have Merc in Aquarius, acting all cool and intellectual and detached–and adding more fuel to the fire with the ‘It doesn’t really involve me’ routine. By 8 PM the Moon quincunxes Mars and the armaments come out. Are we all that serious about gaining that empowerment foothold? Probably not, but all our buttons will have by this time been pushed–and without some perspective we may not back down as we really should. By 10 PM PST the Moon is opposed Uranus and quincunx Neptune–uh-oh, if we haven’t reined in the horses by now we could be in some trouble, as we insist on going to extremes and rebelling from any semblance of co-operation or reasonableness! And any misunderstandings, deceptions, or delusions may be very quickly adopted as justification or shelter from the argument. Not a pretty scenario, if we let our emotions carry us away.
