‘Starry Night Over the Rhone’ By Vincent van Gogh {{PD}}

The 28th Is A Good Day To . . . do it. Mars sextiles Saturn, making for smooth, real-world efforts–just enough restraint, just enough push–and Mercury conjoins Vesta, rooting thought processes in highest values, which guarantees that what you plan and do will be in line with the essence of what you honor (less-than-satisfactory results should prompt Self-examination, particularly in terms of what you find sacred in life–in this case, the fault is not in our stars, but in ourselves). Yes, Merc is still retro, but here we don’t rely on the mind but the things we find important to guide us. Moon in Libra makes things pleasant in interaction and aesthetics, and aids in negotiations, so don’t be afraid to approach ‘the Other’.

A Good Day To . . . is based on the aspects perfecting on each day, Pacific time.

‘Amor Holding a Glass Orb’ By Caesar van Everdingen c1660 {{PD}}

The Full Moon occurs at 7:34 PM PDT of the 7th at 18 Libra 43, and the immediately striking thing is that so many of the potential aspects have a wide orb. With that in mind, I’ll discuss those toward which the Moon will be moving to perfect contact; those that are past perfection won’t be included (unless still within a 2 degree margin), simply because in symbolic terms the wider margin and separating contact suggest what’s already past, not what’s coming. When the orb is smaller (that is within my normal consideration range of 2 and in some cases 3 degrees), applying or separating won’t hold so much weight, as I consider it as part of the current Full Moon picture.

The emphasis on Cardinal contact made by this Cardinal Moon can’t be over stated, and neither can the prominence of the Air element. This is a Moon that brings mental activity to a peak, and that in some way forces action. Out of the endings around relationships, contacts, partnerships, cooperative efforts, aesthetic efforts, and those who surround us or make up our audience, come the beginnings of new associations, and a new imperative to act, maybe in ways that create or reflect major change, especially if change has come to the ‘facts’ of the situation (this showing the strong influence of the Moon moving toward square of Jupiter-Pluto). What conclusions we draw, or what speaks to us now, brings urgency to the feeling nature, propelling us to do or think differently than we do now.

We’ll start with the closest aspect: a sesquiquadrate of the Moon-Earth combo to Venus. As ruler of the Full Moon, Venus connects through her placement in Air (Gemini), but the aspect itself implies difficult circumstances, possibly ones where what we like or assess as worthy is shown by a Full Moon conclusion to be less than we think. This may pertain to relationships, finances, or values, but will certainly cause emotional disquiet about with whom to share or partner. What’s revealed is that our stance in this regard has been taken largely for emotional reasons–and now the impact of that stance comes clear.

The Full Moon is heading toward squares to Jupiter and Pluto in Capricorn, both just over 6 degrees from perfection, which tells us how closely Jupiter and Pluto remain conjoined. This may suggest that the Full Moon reveals the true depth of this combo’s impact on our relationships, partnerships, and to those with whom we share and cooperate. We see the ways problems here may be inescapable, and may see interactions shut down, confined, restricted, or irrevocably transformed or changed. The emotional impact of the pairing is revealed through difficult circumstances or difficult interactions; feelings may be raw, but politely hidden or acted out through passive aggression, since Libra can’t bear to be seen as impolite!

The Full Moon also quincunxes Neptune in its own sign of Pisces, suggesting perhaps that our dreams will have to accommodate FM changes/ realities, or that we must let go of a delusion or two, as the need for action or different thinking just can’t accommodate what’s blatantly untrue or based in fantasy. The need to adjust may show as a need to let go of what’s not seated in reality, or in the need to adjust the dreams or goals to better fit revelations delivered by Full Moon endings.

The Moon and Earth are also heading toward a trine to Ceres in Aquarius. Ah, Mother Nature again, this time facilitating or making what must stop or conclude with this Moon quite obvious, and in a way, easy. She’s handing us the ability to understand in an academic sense; that means we still have time to deal with all she’s been showing us. Those who understand Nature, who accept its power, and recognize its authority, will look for ways to cooperate with Her–everyone else may fall victim in some form, insisting that Humans can conquer anything. No, not for long, we can’t, and it may be time to pay the piper. Approach the natural world with respect, or have the results taken out of our hands.

And lastly, the FM will meet up with (and should be considered conjoined already) to Zeus. This pulls focus toward the personal ambition and desire nature, showing an emotional culmination around the way forward and our own fulfillment.

Well, this hardly seems like a fair match. A Gang of Robbers Attack a Woman, Artist Unknown, 15th century {{PD}}

The Full Moon Sabian is, ‘A Gang Of Robbers In Hiding’. Is that the ‘hidden’ impact of Jupiter-Pluto, waiting to hit us emotionally with this Moon? Or is it humanity, having stolen from Mother Nature and the natural order, now hoping to get away with it? Or is this symbolic of something we’ve been hiding from ourselves, something we’ve been dishonest about, not wanting to admit its true impact? To whom does our world belong, and does this image suggest overreach, that now brings an emotional (and perhaps material) conclusion?

We also look at the Sabian for the Sun with a Full Moon: ‘The “Magic Carpet” Of Oriental Imagery’. Maybe what we’ll see at this Full Moon is the result of so much wishful thinking engaged in, so much indulgence in the idea that we can magically ‘escape’ our own actions or conduct. I think this Moon will tell us No, we really can’t.

New Moon in Libra 28 September 2019: Pairing Up

At the Moulin Rouge, two women waltzing, 1892, By Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec {{PD}}

I want to talk about the New Moon, at 5 Libra 20 that perfects at 11:26 AM Pacific time, but I also want to discuss how many pairs there are in the heavens right now! Some are paired by conjunction at the same degree, while others are paired by parallel standing, but the extraordinary number of these duos screams their importance at the time of a New Moon, as if Luna is crowd surfing the Universe–or maybe it’s that the Moon is opening an energy door, ushering the various combinations into new expression, putting new push behind them with the spirit of Libran cooperation.

Moon in Libra can be paralyzing, as we compulsively (and maybe unendingly) consider all sides, and too much emotional focus on partners or others, on the social sphere or on aesthetics, on fairness and ‘balance’, may in the end distort our perceptions. When this is the New Moon, it can mean new thoughts or concepts (Libra is an Air sign) in regard to others, the Arts, or what we are willing to do in cooperation with others. It may seem our feelings are fickle at this time, but it’s more like we’re having feelings that are just occurring to us! These are emotional responses we haven’t realized we were having, until now. With this New Moon that’s even more pronounced, due to the pull of that black hole duo, South Node-Saturn, and the relationship scenario of the Sun-Moon combination vis-a-vis Mars and Venus. Both leave us feeling a little stretched, a little tattered, as if we’ve lost our mojo just as our goal is within reach. Don’t take this too seriously, as the New Moon specifically offers a new start, ‘fresh meat’, or whatever image you come up with to signal an uptick in energy and optimism.

The New Moon in Libra is caught between Venus and Mars, but not quite at the midpoint; it’s closer to Mars, but if we see it in straightforward symbolic terms, the Sun and Moon are both moving away from Mars, even as Venus has already passed them and is herself moving away. That is, the New Moon event sees our conscious attention (the Sun) and unconscious mind (the Moon) turning away from deliberate action and choice, away from taking the initiative, possibly in pursuit of feeling, assets, or rewards, but even as our attention turns what we find desirable gets farther away from us. It may be that we are ‘waking up’ too late to some feeling situation, and the New Moon is delivering notice of this.

The New Moon is also quincunx Uranus in Taurus, with Moon and Sun only 24 minutes from exact, suggesting that the big shock or surprise or revelation is yet to come, and in some way we’ll have to adjust to it. It’s as well squine Pluto. That’s a 105 degree aspect that’s a cross between a square and a trine, implying some of the ease of the trine but with all the conflict or problems of the square. Such a minor contact takes on greater resonance by being one of the few close aspects Luna is making. We might want to think of it this way: the Moon-Sun are, at New lunation time, taking the same point of view, having the same perspective on all the other energies, and in the case of Pluto there may be a deep desire for change and a simultaneous deep fear of it–or maybe that’s power, or death, or transformation, or a desire to burn it all down and rise again, re-made.

In this case, the aspect manifests as the force that makes us consider, perhaps just for a moment, jumping from a great height that we’re actually petrified by, or tempting us with a primal pull toward a thing we believe consciously we’d do anything to avoid–with the implied result that this is destructive/ transformative in a permanent way.

The New Moon is also opposed Chiron, and though this is a separating aspect, it suggests that it’s matters related to injuries to the Will, or to the current material reality, that are being re-made. The Sabian symbol is, ‘A Man Watches His Ideals Taking A Concrete Form Before His Inner Vision’. Here a human concentrates on the mental picture, the inner eye, as it gives form, face, and function to one or more of his/ her/ their ideals. This can be many things, but the image first and foremost suggests the energy of an ideal gathering manifestable shape, the vision being a precursor to physical possibility, to literal creation. The surprise, as shown by the close aspect of Uranus to the New Moon, is that unless we have thorough Self-knowledge we may not be able to anticipate our vision. Perhaps it’s a little of what we fear, what we believe, that controls the shape and intensity of New Moon events–so take things, at the very least, as being representative of the inner reality, and be aware that the new lunar cycle offers the inspiration to take off in a new direction.

Now to the pairs in the sky: we start, of course, with South Node-Saturn in Capricorn, which we’ve been feeling like a weight around our necks for some time. It’s the restrictions we’ve built coming forward from the past, to be lived now. Ouch. Then there’s Black Moon Lilith-Neptune in Pisces. What can you say about those things ignored or denied that are obscured from our view, hidden in the fog, or that we’re being lied to about? The imagination is as likely to work for us as against us. This may or may not be a fog of our own choosing, but it definitely makes knowing what’s happening difficult, with the big danger being we’ll be misled–and that’s only enhanced by the Mercury-Black Moon Lilith parallel, bedeviling the mind (consciously or not) with all it’s tried to forget (and the result of that may be that even if there’s nothing to be worried about, we worry!)

Vesta and Sedna sit together in Taurus and reinforce that unseen/ values connection, marrying both the willingness to commit and the instincts to material well-being and surroundings–‘comfort levels’ may be the most obvious measure of this. Venus parallels Neptune, again bringing forward familiar themes, but this time linking values and that Neptunian influence, pointing toward the New Moon values/ ideals thread, or toward a kind of ‘wildest dreams’ payoff, and this is echoed by a Venus-Jupiter sextile–we’ll call it the ‘more/ better aspect’. Taking a chance in order to win love or money could be a good idea–but only if your ideals/ beliefs are real-life aligned with what you truly love.

Bonus! A soon-to-perfect (the 30th) Pallas-North Node Water Trine: Smart emotions, practicality, and skills shape the future. Git you some.

By Hans am Ende – http://www.kettererkunst.de/, Public Domain, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=69337605

The Full Moon falls at 29 Libra 06 at 4:11 AM Pacific time. A Full Moon in Libra promises an ending, culmination, conclusion, or end of a phase, probably keyed to a relationship or to many relationships, as the individual assesses their part in a larger, group picture. We see some dénouement occur with a partner or spouse, or even in a situation with an enemy, and this opens a way forward. Cooperation and diplomacy may start or stop, and events at this time may show us, most importantly, who’s on our side, who’s not.

Falling in an anaretic degree, this Full Moon is under stress; the FM fills in an Air Grand Trine with Juno and Black Moon Lilith, pointing toward Full Moon events as a safety valve or means of balancing emotional and mental issues around empowerment and what we have chosen to ignore or deny. The FM is also apex to a Finger of God, with base of Venus sextile Sedna, which suggests that what culminates now is a combination of instincts and values, that kind of automatic response that springs from a prompt generated by what we care about. It seems we’ll be driven largely by what we’re only partially conscious of, with the FM showing us, in big, bold terms, the results of such a stance.

There’s also a loose Mystic Rectangle–or rather, a tight MR except for one loner, expansive Jupiter–everything else sits at 29 degrees of their respective signs, implying that a Jupiterian event or figure comes along and lights the match to the Full Moon, Juno, and the Sun. In his own sign and newly retrograde, Jupiter may be the key, the attitude of overdoing, the hubris, the god-like individual, the casual imposition of the Will onto others, the exaggeration, the facts or beliefs used as a bludgeon.

The FM also opposes Hygeia-Uranus, both of which are within orb of the Sun as it approaches. This implies there’s an element of surprise, alarm, shock, or a group or avant garde influence–and is this a healthy thing, something we need to see, know, or understand, or is it detrimental, shaking up the world we think we know and so undermining our place in it?

The Sabian symbol for the Full Moon is, ‘Three Mounds Of Knowledge On A Philosopher’s Head’. I take this as a reference to the massively unscientific practice of phrenology, the study of the bumps and lumps of the head, and the mistaken idea that we can measure the level of someone’s wisdom and sophistication via this discredited methodology. It suggests to me some dodgy practice we engage in that serves to support our own assumptions and beliefs, rather than to reveal or clarify reality, even if that’s only the kind of Self-talk that has us looking for answers and yet insisting we can measure the validity of those answers with the very brain that came up short in the first place! Maybe it’s the superstitious reassurance offered by a lucky token, the Self-seriousness with which we approach our spiritual study or practice, the insistence on not stepping on a crack in the sidewalk (‘you’ll break your mother’s back!’) or the kind of thinking that labels some life elements as ‘spiritual’ and others not–these and many other versions of our ideas of ‘right living’, both minor and major, may need to fall by the wayside in order to allow a more objective perception of reality and the way the Universe actually works. For those longing for a more traditional interpretation of this symbol, I found a good one here, but would caution: always looking for the high falutin’ explanation of something is an example of exactly what I’m talking about.

We also inspect the Sabian for the Sun in a Full Moon scenario: ‘A Duck Pond And Its Brood’. This suggests that the origin of all this FM tension may be a group or familial situation, a Tribal attitude or expectation, perhaps, one that comes from being part of any group and while being in their ‘habitat’. That kind of situation can make it difficult to see circumstances any other way, between the force of habit, the influence of all those around us, and the ‘world’ (the pond) that seems to support only this one way of interacting. This symbol simply points to the way what falls away at the Full Moon may have been with us since early days, and may be, rather than something we’ve chosen, some old hangover from a scenario of which we’re no longer a part, or at least where we don’t play the same role we did when very young.

The product of this Full Moon, when all’s said and done, seems to be the ending of old, outmoded, misleading, and unproductive ways of interacting with ourselves, others, and the Universe. If we’re seeking clarity, and even if we’re not, the events of this Full Moon will help us find a little more of it.

Setting the table for your year ahead. Art by Peter Ilsted {{PD}}

For those who have the natal Sun at 29 Aries. Check your natal chart for the correct Sun degree (you may want to read both the degree number and the one that follows, if you have minutes on your Sun position–that offers a more complete picture of your year ahead). Something comes to fruition this Solar year, dear Aries, something that you’ve been working toward completing and have devoted a great deal of your energy to–even if you haven’t done so consciously.In fact, your job this year might be to become as conscious as possible of not only what you’ve set in motion, but how you can best respond and so direct the developments in your own life. It could be a time of revelation, particularly in terms of you seeing just how much sway you truly have. No longer can you say, ‘If I had my way, I’d . . .’ because you’ll see that you already do, and it’s all within your power. Good luck!

‘La répétition de chant’ By Edgar Degas 1888 {{PD}}

There’s a Full Moon as the Earth slips into Libra and the Sun into Aries, the culmination occurring at 6:43 PM PDT at 00 Libra 09, with the Moon-Earth quincunx Uranus and opposed Chiron, the latter of which the Sun is moving toward conjoining. It’s a very simple Full Moon picture, but not necessarily a direct one; the quincunx speaks of the need for adjustment, to the unexpected, to revelation, to sudden understanding, to the standards of Higher Mind, to the academic (rather than real-life) requirements of a situation. In some way, what we’re not looking out for comes along and creates the need for our response–and that is something coalescing with the arrival of the Full Moon, an attitude or realization that only now becomes fully formed, and may only now be graspable–and it presents either fresh injury or the chance to heal from an old one.

The Sun at the Aries Point (just as it crosses the equatorial plane on its way North, marking the spring equinox in the Northern Hemisphere), opposing the Moon in Libra, both at 00 Cardinal and so at liminal point in the zodiac, suggesting that the Sun’s position points to a change in us as individuals, where we bring something within us into manifestation, with the Full Moon in Libra showing a kind of result of that, as our ‘I Am’ statement is translated into a change or development in our relationship to others. This shift may be brought forward by that unexpected event or response, or the unexpected development may spring from our ‘I Am’ call and response; in either case, it presents a Chirotic moment, one wherein we can access healing, or hold more tightly to new-found hurts, all depending our your point of view.

The Full Moon Sabian symbol is, ‘In A Collection Of Perfect Specimens Of Many Biological Forms, A Butterfly Displays The Beauty Of Its Wings, Its Body Impaled By A Fine Dart’. In my mind, the beauty of any such image is quickly overwhelmed by the static nature of the display, by the fact that the living thing is only so closely observable because it’s dead. Think in large terms: are we looking at a relationship that may have some lovely qualities but that in fact is lifeless, trapping the participants in a situation not just of immobility, but of an inability to even respond, offering no chance of changing or leaving? And, even more important, do we even want change in this regard?

The Sabian for the Sun may help: ‘A Woman Just Risen From The Sea; A Seal Is Embracing Her’. This symbol is pure Sedna (and if I used bigger orbs, we could count a wide out-of-element trine of the Full Moon to Sedna in Taurus). As such this points to the way the current, static relationship has arisen directly from our own instincts and inclinations, from what we sense and ‘know but don’t know’, and may have been specifically designed to show us our ‘blind spot’. Paying clear-eyed attention to what we see at this time is paramount to getting what we need from Full Moon events.

Don’t look for solutions in this Full Moon; listen instead for the response the Universe offers to your personal ‘call’. This marks a subtle but vital shift in both the identity ‘statement’ we make in the world and the way that affects our relationships. If you see the effect as you being the same but others suddenly reacting differently, look more closely: you’ve changed.

The day also sees a trine between Mars and Pluto, and a sextile between Mercury and Saturn. These offer the energy and strength to make your move, and the mental stability and attention to real-world circumstances that will make that move truly effective.

Setting the table for your year ahead. Art by Peter Ilsted {{PD}}

For those born with the Sun at 00 Aries (check your natal chart for your Sun degree!) What’s ending right now, at birthday time, and what’s beginning? It may feel disorienting, like the world is shifting beneath your feet, like you don’t really know any more who you are, and particularly who your friends (and enemies) are. This is actually a good thing; it’s time to re-orient yourself to the world. Things aren’t like they used to be, and neither are you, and a re-tooling of attitudes, behaviors, and even instincts is necessary if you’re going to stay a part of the scene–to do otherwise is to step out of the stream of life, and we don’t want that! Attune yourself by defining what it is you care about. It’s not going to take much more than that to bring you some stellar benefits this year, through to your next birthday, though it would be smart to also take advantage of the ease with which you can purge yourself of otherwise difficult past conditions.

New Moon in Libra 8 October 2018 Make It So

07 Sunday Oct 2018

astrology, Moon in Libra, The Lunar Essence

Michelangelo’s ‘Cleopatra’ {{PD}}

The New Moon forms at 8:47 PM PDT of the 8th at 15 Libra 48; it’s notable that both Sun and most recently the Moon have swept over Ceres and remain at the New Moon point still conjoined, though swiftly moving away. This suggests relationship power balances have recently been vetted or made themselves quite clear–so at least part of what you consider at this New Moon is whether you’re happy with that, and what new practices you might want to begin, especially related to the partnership, cooperative, aesthetic, or mate situation (Libra)–though keep in mind that with Venus retrograde, your tastes will be other than usual–and that suggests precipitous change, especially that which can’t be undone, is to be avoided.

The New Moon is also loosely conjoined, both bodies in this case heading toward conjunction, asteroid Zeus, implying that New Moon new starts may be driven by deep desire, ambition fulfillment, or lust. We want something voraciously–if we admit to our appetites, it will be much easier for us to get it.

The NM squares Pluto, in effect creating a T-square if we count the Earth, which always always opposes the Sun. This suggests that conundrum: are the new beginnings at this point born of changes we must respond to and can’t help, that are outside us, or do we make the changes ourselves proactively, wishing to create the new start? Some of us will make our move, but others will need that external circumstance to push them forward. Know that if something occurs or comes at you at this time that seems harsh, final, driven by powers outside yourself, that it’s really working in concert with an inner wish, or at least, is appearing in order to allow you to act or to rid yourself of something you wouldn’t have been able to facilitate or shed on your own. Bonus: if you have a natal point at 15-19 Cancer, you’ll have a Cardinal Grand Cross filled in, making that natal energy very active and probably bringing some kind of ‘power showdown’ surrounding it or matters of the House where it sits or that it rules.

Neptune is quincunxed by the New Moon, and Juno is sesquiquadrate. The Neptune contact suggests that New Moon activity may be an adjustment in response to what we imagined but which has proven not exactly as we anticipated, or as a modification to a creative effort, seen in light of new beginnings or a new aesthetic perception (again, remember the Venus retro). Bonus: if you have a placement at 14-16.5 of Taurus, this forms a Finger of God with apex the NM, promising that some creative matter or deceptions affecting circumstances related to the natal planet or the subjects/ Houses it rules may come to a head at the NM, likely revealing, if not what to do about it, then certainly how to feel about it.

The NM sesquiquadrate to Juno says that, as we already know, our power and empowerment options will be affected–but it points toward some difficulty or awkwardness around our current status. Do we want to do something but fear we don’t hold the authority to make it happen? Is Zeusian passion pushing us in a direction we fear others might not find acceptable? Or is it a matter of the position we hold, and how it constrains us? In any case, the New Moon presents a need to re-work our aims, in light of what we truly deeply want. Bonus: A natal placement at 29 Aquarius-1 Pisces means a Fist of God is completed, implying that the natal energy in conflict with your personal empowerment situation or sense of authority may bring about the New Moon new beginning.

The Sabian symbol for the New Moon is, ‘After A Storm A Boat Landing Stands In Need Of Reconstruction’. This tells us that destruction, much of it caused by prior circumstances or events, prompts even further destruction, in order to re-build. Expect a little clearing out to occur, even as a new ‘power position’, and maybe a new emotional outlook on a Libran subject, finds its footing and makes changes in your world, giving you a new and improved space from which to launch new projects or new life directions.

Full Moon in Libra March 2018 ‘Being Willing’

Laura Theresa Alma-Tadema ‘The Bible Lesson’ {{PD}}

The Full Moon perfects at 5:36 AM Pacific time of the 31st at 10 Libra 44 at the Sabian degree for ‘A Professor Peering Over His Glasses At His Students’. Ah-ha! This Moon will be instructive, and the Lunar energies will be responses to and responding to our own understanding and accomplishment–that is, how much we’ve learned. There’s an element of judgment, of assessment, to what occurs, that echoes ‘lessons learned’ at the Virgo Full Moon of the 1st, and takes them to a new level–be ready to receive your grades!

The FM is square Mars-Saturn, with Mars still to perfect conjunction to Saturn. The Full Moon effect both arises from our real-world actions and generates them; we see the consequences of restraint, and we may see specifically that actions or choices driven by emotion will affect the reality picture, and may have down sides or restrictive components we haven’t anticipated. The FM is also trine the South Node point, suggesting the past easily ‘flows’ into the present; connections are obvious, and allow us full rein to continue or reject their influence. Too, if we pair the FM with the North Node by sextile, we see a loose Finger of God with apex Hygeia in Pisces (though Neptune could be apex if the FM had occurred just a day or two later, at this point it’s no cigar). The current Finger tells us that emotion plus our current life direction are the fundamentals that determine our health–an obvious formula, but one worth becoming thoroughly conscious of, as we are not perceiving the state of health (mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual) and those things that affect it as clearly as we may believe (Hygeia in Pisces).

Winslow Homer ‘Kissing the Moon’ 1903 {{PD}}

With the Full Moon falling in Libra, we know that central to events will be interaction with others; behaviors, choices, relationships are all interdependent, and so inextricable, one from another. What ends or comes to completion at this time is related to our relationship to one or more entities to which or to whom we feel emotional connection; the issue then becomes what feelings or intuitions we are willing to acknowledge about those others, with FM events offering a denouement that offers at least partial answers to our questions.

This Moon is also opposed a retrograde Mercury and sesquiquadrate Sedna, suggesting that we may not have access to coherent thought around the Full Moon experience, and that access via instincts will be difficult if not impossible to accomplish. It may be that, after assessing our relationships in the light of FM events, we must look into the eyes of others in order to make contact with our own feelings. The question, ‘Is it you or is it me?’ may be vital to gaining deeper knowledge of our relationships and of our causal part in them.

We also look at the Sun’s Sabian for a Full Moon: ‘The Ruler Of A Nation’. That implies that big events, or the choices of those far above us in influence, will factor in to Full Moon circumstances. Or, as ruler of our own ‘Nation’, we may be looking for conformity across the relationship spectrum, for an easy thread of likeness with which to bind all those who populate our world. Though the wish for this is understandable, it’s not necessarily desirable; one thing the Full Moon in Libra ought to show us is how varied the characteristics of each of our many relationships, how particular and specially-attuned they are to various parts of our own Beingness. To lose that variety by adopting a uniform attitude (symbolized by ‘The Ruler’, a kind of Archetype, in the image), or by expecting our personal ‘Nation’ to blend homogeneously to suit some idea of who we are, we lose the broad spectrum of potentials and talents that are stored within our own personalities, celebrated in our innate contradictions and pecadillos, and brought forward within a rainbow of interactions. That Aries Sun makes us feel more solitary, more separate, than we really are, but it’s only in embracing the way the individual fits, puzzle-piece like, into a relationship, that we discover the best in ourselves, as well as the many different ‘shades’ that Self comes in.

I’ll be completely unavailable starting afternoon of the 28th, through evening of the 1st, Pacific time. Have a great Full Moon!

Just a Little AstroEssence 12 December 2017 All In

John Singer Sargent ‘Fishing for Oysters at Cancale’ 1877 {{PD}}

The Inferior Conjunction of the Sun and Mercury occurs today, the 12th, in Sagittarius. This is a point of inception within the Mercury-Sun cycle, the time when moving in apparent retrograde the Messenger/ Trickster meets ‘the light of day’ in one form or another. The Sun illuminates our world, so that when the planet of communication appears to meet it from our vantage point here on Earth, we get a glimpse of what’s been hidden during the Merc retro period; we also see this realization, knowledge, or revelation spark the beginning of something related either to matters of the House where this meeting occurs in the natal chart, or to matters of the Houses Mercury rules in the natal chart (with the possibility that the House ruled by the Sun is also involved).

‘Les Demoiselles Schwartz’ Anders Zorn {{PD}}

Close aspects the Conjunction makes at the time of the event reveal something of what begins and/ or is discovered. In this instance there is only one, a nearly exact sextile formed by the Moon in Libra. This suggests the revelation or beginning is emotional, possibly arrived at intuitively, and involving a partner, someone you love, someone with whom you cooperate or negotiate, the Arts (your relationship to creativity), and the working out through communication of the emotional element or relationship between you. If you have a natal placement at 21 Taurus (2 degree orb either side of this point) it becomes a personal Finger of God, with the emotional discovery planting a seed within the relationship that will bring results related to the natal energy or matters of the House it rules with the Superior Conjunction of the Sun and Mercury when Merc is direct (occurring on 17 February 2018, in the 29th degree of Aquarius, telling us at the very least that it may bring crisis, a ‘do or die’ choice, or bring stress already extant to a head).

The other aspect perfecting today is a conjunction of Vesta and Jupiter in Scorpio. Truths revealed, secrets uncovered, or commitments vetted and then made known publicly show us how far our real-life priorities stray from our highest ideals or from what ‘the facts’ warrant–and it’s an examination likely spurred by the social sphere and its events. Commitments are assessed; are we all in? We may find ourselves doubling down, just to make a point. Or, we may take a distanced approach, in which case we criticize society, weighing events against what we ‘know’ and our own personal standards–but taking this tack doesn’t allow for personal revelation, if we only see the need for improvement ‘out there’, rather than seeing that what happens internally is vital to shaping what we see manifest externally.

Today’s word image is a child crying alone in the corner. Is there someone sad in your life, someone you don’t recognize may be isolating themselves because of that sadness? No one should feel this lonely; do something about it.

Thank you, and have a great day!

New Moon in Libra 19 October 2017 Chaos and Instinct

The New Moon occurs at 12:12 PM Pacific time on the 19th at 26 Libra 35. It makes a close opposition to Uranus in Aries, sesquiquadrates Neptune in its own sign of Pisces, and is apex to a Finger of God with base of Sedna-Chiron, and at the same time is part of the base of another Finger with a sextile to the point Black Moon Lilith, apex Sedna. Most of the aspects for this Moon are close, which is why we don’t need to reach for other contacts (though we may count a loose semi-sextile to Mars, which just seems to bring home the Aries energy that’s already so prominently in opposition); the orb is too wide to count a conjunction to Jupiter or a sextile to Saturn–no need to stretch, we already have a concise picture.

New starts, beginnings, related to Libra always have an ‘us-other’ facet, and often emphasize aesthetic, asset, or relationship matters. There may be changes or shifts in cooperation and partnership areas that highlight the way Venusian subjects such as Love or Money are really interaction issues, with a requirement to weigh and measure levels of financial or emotional investment. These typical New Moon in Libra matters are shaped by aspects the NM makes to others bodies; this time around, they get a dose of chaos, which examined closely reveals a method beneath the madness.

The New Moon opposes Uranus in Aries (which of course conjoins Earth). This suggests material or real-world issues are chaotic, unexpected, avant garde, or intellectually advanced (Uranus), with the illusion (Neptune) being that these erratic or surprising moves appear to be the expression of individuals (Aries) responding to ideals (Pisces)–but they’re actually an emotional (and probably unconscious) response to the group and the individual’s unique place within it (Uranus). Projection of feeling may be something both given and received, at this time, and it may either be difficult to know what we feel, or may seem that others are acting as they do because they’re unaware of their own emotional reactions–or we could experience a mind-bending elixir of both.

The Finger with New Moon as apex suggests that instinct or ‘blind spot’ material combines with hurt or unique skill, and the result is the ‘fresh start’ of this Lunar cycle. With the NM as base with Black Moon Lilith, we see the new beginning reach deep into denied or ignored material (no wonder it all feels chaotic!), with the result being we are stimulated to act either out of material held in our ‘blind spot’ or instinctually. The Fingers create a kind of energy ouroboros, with a lot of the material suppressed, denied, unconscious, or projected so that things seem to leap out of chaos–but if we are honest with ourselves, we know there’s method here, in the form of circumstances forcing us to see and acknowledge what we may have been denying or rejecting–and so become more responsible to both ourselves and in our agreements with others (Libra).

The Sabian for the New Moon is, ‘An Airplane Sails, High In The Clear Sky’. Flight, at least that facilitated by an airplane, is relatively modern, with the mention of ‘high in the clear sky’ suggesting a successful ascension and safe travel in easy weather; this may speak to that Uranus-Earth opposition to this New Moon, with that planetary combo a perfect expression of successfully leaving the Earth via a modern invention. In opposition, this may imply that what occurs at the New Moon may, as we’ve discussed, seem chaotic, but in reality it will offer the foundation for something entirely new, an unusual (for the individual) way to soar. We get a clue as to what may come about with the Sabian for Uranus-Earth, ‘Through Imagination A Lost Opportunity Is Regained’. What occurs stimulates the creative, imaginative, inventive spirit and the instinctual nature–even out of chaos, we find purpose, meaning, and a new way forward.

One caveat: the New Moon period, though bringing positive things, may be difficult in itself. The same day brings Mars and Chiron parallel each other and both contra-parallel Vesta, and Saturn sesquiquadrate Pallas. That suggests that the ‘real world’ may fail to support what’s wise or practical, and our inclinations may be to act out of hurt and so could sabotage values. Just a heads up about surrounding circumstances, and a warning to keep our eye on motivations and reactions.

Have a wonderful New Moon, everyone! I won’t be around for a few days–stay safe, live happy!

Just a Little AstroEssence 24 August 2017 The Cost of Magic, The Need for Facts

You can be confident as a Valkyrie today, if you’re open to what surrounding circumstances say about who you are. ‘Brünnhilde the Valkyrie’ Arthur Rackham 1909 {{PD}}

There’s a lot going on today, and various forces may push us in contrary directions. Wisdom or practicality gets a dose of the creative, the imaginative, or the delusional, and depending on the individual and the application, could make magic or pull the roof down around us. Big ambitions find big outlets, the social sphere supports our desires (whether we see that or not), and communications travel farther than we expect them to (which may be good or not so, depending on what’s behind those words or ideas). What’s not working so well? The individual ego, the sense of sureness in the identity, suffers whiplash, or feedback that points to inevitable change around who we are; only the facts surrounding matters of actual power, and those realities reflected back to us by the state of relationships and finances (emphasized by the Moon in Libra), hold valid reference points–everything else is a (potentially) costly deception.

Today’s word image is a bench made of bacon. Seriously! The absurdity of this image points to the obvious need for exercise (don’t sit around on our pork!) as well as a need to modify or otherwise attend to the diet. Just a reminder that it never hurts to reform our methods of Self-care and nurture, and that post-Solar eclipse and mid-Mercury retro (and approaching Inferior Conjunction) is the perfect time to do so.
