James Tissot – ‘Young Lady in a Boat’ 1869 {{PD}}

Configuration of the Week is a Finger of God apex Jupiter with base of Sedna-Chiron. This may promote a tendency to combine hurt and blind spot material, and then display it publicly (or worse, to think our wounds and unknowns add up to ‘facts’)–Ouch! It’s a matter of maintaining vigilance, of not allowing ourselves to slip into an unconscious state where our own internal justifications prop up an inclination toward exhibitionism or Self-aggrandizement–and yet, if we can willingly access what lingers near the surface of consciousness, and apply our most unique skills and talents to dealing with it, we just may create opportunities for ourselves. There’s always a way to use even the most negative-seeming contacts in a positive way–and this is one of those times.

Friday February 3rd we know what we want, but the very fact that we do prevents our effective empowerment; we get in our own way, but why? Our thoughts are grounded and our instincts are good–but our attention is on all the wrong things. We’re preoccupied with our desires, our appetites, and with personal relationships, and it’s this very single-minded pursuit of our wants that trips us up in the first place. For once, knowing where we want to go doesn’t help us get there. If we can focus on other than our goals, things that benefit others but align with our aims (a cause important to us, someone else’s objectives, or something aimed at the greater good, perhaps), we have a much better chance of seeing our wants fulfilled as part of a larger picture, a Collective good, or a mass shift–and this is so even if our ambitions are highly personal or specific only to us.

Today’s word image is a white bed sheet, drying on a line outdoors on a sunny day. Every time I think no one does this anymore, I see laundry on the line. I prefer drying things this way–they smell so nice!–but in rainy Seattle it’s not really an option. So, what past method of achieving an end is perfectly serviceable, and though you now have an effective, more ‘modern’ way to get there, you might want to consider reviving the old practice, when the ‘weather’s just right’?

Saturday the 4th dawns with our inner and outer attention firmly on the physical world, especially those parts of the world that engage our senses. We are busy reading what’s beneath the tangible and material, and measuring almost instinctively how this can support or serve ambition fulfillment. You may get the feeling those around you are being oddly sneaky–but that’s how focus on our inner state and reactions reads when we’re trying to correlate what we’re perceiving sotto voce with what we’re trying to make happen. Use the imagination and creative skills actively–otherwise they can draw misunderstanding or deception from others–and notice that a factual approach to health matters is illuminating, as well as providing more options than you might have anticipated.

Today’s word image is a pair of used tickets to a long-ago event. Sometimes we hold on to ephemera because it actually evokes a positive memory, and sometimes we hold on to bits and pieces out of habit, neglect, or a sentimentality that replaces true feeling. You know what to do: keep what brings you truly pleasant associations, discard all the rest.

Sunday the 5th Jupiter turns around (for some it will be the 6th already), stationing retrograde early in the 23rd degree of Libra. The first contact Jupiter will make with retro status will be a square received from Vesta in Cancer, as the asteroid retros back to perfect the aspect. This little picture suggests the Jupiter turnaround may prompt the urge to do something drastic about the home, mate, a cause to which we’re committed, or a cooperative venture, in response to what will be perceived as pressure from ‘the facts’ or the social sphere. This will be an artificial crisis, allowed to flourish in the atmosphere of doubt that comes from some pull back, withdrawal, or end to expansion. Optimism wanes, and we think we must jump into action–no, we don’t.

Today’s word image is a single glove. Unless you’re missing a hand or exceptionally desperate, this can safely be classified as a useless item. What remnant, leftover, or useless accessory lingers, either from your inattention to the details or your failure to just throw it out?

Monday the 6th dark thoughts menace–all those matters we’d rather ignore, deny, or that enrage us keep popping into consciousness–and as we’re dealing with our interior dialogue it seems the social order, or any offered opportunities, grate on our highest values or disrespect what we honor most. Perceptions are likely distorted as what we know that sits just below the surface of awareness stands on our last nerve and sends us looking for problems. Realize the way out is found by acknowledging what we’d normally rather turn away from, and in genuine holistic thinking.

Today’s word image is a match box with a blue devil on the cover. The Devil may be a symbol of our lesser nature, or instance where we ‘fell from the light’–and maybe we’re sad (blue) about that transgression. Fully admitting it happened, then forgiving ourselves, is the only way to let go for good.

For Tuesday the 7th let’s concentrate on Mercury, which enters Aquarius, parallels Pluto, noviles Neptune, and squares Ceres; this suggests a focus on functions of the higher intellect, on understanding what unfolds before us, on the future, on modern or ‘new’ methods, on the academic (as opposed to the real-world/ material), the unique, on the innovative, inventive, and original, and on the individual position (especially as it applies to cooperation and leadership) within the group. Thoughts bring change, almost without our realizing it, and we are highly creative; the only problems come from authorities, who seem to block us or point out problems with our plans, and from Mother Nature Herself, when ‘natural’ functions or roles interfere with progress. This is a period when form follows thought; make the most of it.

Today’s word image is a plumbing leak. The image is one of containment failure, specifically of emotion (water)–and this is a desired containment, one that allows us to function well and have particular needs met. What’s not being ‘held in’? What feeling, better contained, is escaping into the world? And what other emotion may be pushing (via ‘water pressure’) this better-held-in feeling out?

Wednesday the 8th the scenario is definitely our choice: do we allow wounding to shape values and/ or skill usage, or do we heal by actually embracing our highest principles (including being responsible for our own progress)? You know the better answer.

Today’s word image is a dog barking frantically at a stranger, but as the person approaches and then passes the animal, the dog becomes calm. Is there someone in your life who’s making a lot of (possibly aggressive) noise that is perhaps making you avoid something, or hesitate to go forward? Don’t be afraid–they’re ‘all bark, no bite’.

Thursday the 9th even though we are doing the smart thing, the original, innovative, or inventive thing, we find values undermining health, or health undermining values, which has the further impact of altering the life course. What to do? Find the point where values and health intersect, and put your energy and attention there–that gives you a great starting point.

Vincent van Gogh - (1889) {{PD}}

Vincent van Gogh – ‘Olive Trees with the Alpilles in the Background’ (1889) {{PD}}

Saturday January 28th sees the New Moon of the preceding day usher in growing understanding, and this results in us really noticing both the value of our instincts and those instances where authorities show a distinct lack of wisdom. It’s a great day to ground ourselves in and reinforce our own standards and priorities, and as well to take an accurate measure of the reality picture.

Word image for the 28th is an olive branch with olives on it. This made me think of the phrase, ‘the fruits of peace’. What are those? Whatever results from our acceptance of what is, since that acceptance itself brings about a state of peace, at least internally. What have you accepted, ‘made peace’ with, that you are now seeing the benefits of?

Sunday the 29th we focus on the Mercury conjunction to Pluto and the sesquiquadrate both form to the North Node. The North Node is a point that, at least theoretically, points in the direction of current affairs; it tells us where we will end up, should we continue in the way we are reasoning, behaving, choosing now. This aspect set suggests an evolution of or transformation of thought/ thinking that then requires some (probably difficult) adjustments to our life direction. This shift in thinking can be destructive or can bring mental re-birth, with a consequent alteration to where, if we continue with the reformed approach, we will end up–and both the potential changes in thought and the potential changes in destination are obvious today, if we will only look.

Word image for the 29th is a man who comes to you and says, ‘I can give you something so that you won’t remember what’s coming, once it’s over.’ Do you take it or not? The essence of this question may be, In your future do you anticipate so much pain that after the fact you want to pretend it never happened, or do you want to be aware of what you and others did so that nothing escapes your judgment? Think of it as drinking from the river Lethe, which allowed one to reincarnate by wiping away all memory–or would you rather drink from Lethe’s companion river, Mnemosyne, where one remembers everything in complete detail, including tremendous pain, which is not allowed to fade? This may be a choice between peace and the ability to meet things anew, to refuse to carry burdens of anger or guilt, or to remember all, which equips one to choose and interact in an absolutely just way, but also requires we carry every pain ever experienced–and this pain can’t help but distort our approach to others and to life.

On Monday the 30th to act or choose is to wound ourselves or others, chiefly by the way to be wise we must violate our values, or conversely, to support our values, we must do something unwise or impractical. How do we know which is the better option? By taking our ambitions and desires out of the reasoning equation. Making the choice an impersonal one removes the potential for wounding and allows a fair standard of both values and wisdom to be upheld.

Word image for the 30th is a memento or keepsake from the past that features the color blue. It could be a photo with a background of blue sky, a blue patterned scarf, a Tiffany jewel box, a passport from certain countries–anything that wouldn’t be quite the same if it weren’t blue. This could serve one of two purposes: to bring you abruptly into the present moment when you see it, or to take you back to that moment, and what it taught you.

Tuesday the 31st may find us struggling to avoid it but inevitably hurt, in the end. Though we may be convinced that balance will prevent injury, it does not–so does anything keep us from being wounded? No, but then again, to be wounded is to receive events, revelations, information, or consequences in a way that insists one is vulnerable and unable to avoid being affected. There are three things we can do to minimize negatives: 1) don’t insist on independence or originality in thinking at this time, 2) don’t insist all material matters must go according to your standards (and don’t try to suppress what you don’t agree with), and 3) choose to focus on what doesn’t hurt–there, isn’t that better?

Frederick Carl Frieseke – ‘Girl in Blue Arranging Flowers’ 1914 {{PD}}

Word image for the 31st is a house with no mirrors. Symbolically speaking, we’re talking about a ‘resident’ who achieves no ‘Self-reflection’ (or a vampire, your choice). Sometimes an unwillingness to examine one’s own ways, beliefs, or methods is framed as modesty, or as being aggressively engaged with the world, so that the Self is disregarded in the quest to focus on others, and other things–and of course the opposite, a house filled with mirrors, suggests vanity and Self-absorption–but could also be seen as a willingness to face things as they are, a desire to see the Self appropriately placed within the surroundings, and as a vote for clarity and realism in perception. In which house would you be more comfortable, and where, in actuality, do you live?

Wednesday the 1st promises us something magical, or maybe simply inspirational, through pursuit of the practical or what’s smart. It’s almost presented as the reward for doing the most effective, modest, and intelligent thing, and we should be prepared for the potentials: it can heal our minds or a distorted way of thinking, it can show us how we benefit by no longer ignoring or denying something, and it prompts us to modify our actions, possibly only a little, but enough to change our destiny.

Word image for the 1st is a confession, that in other times you would have dreaded, that instead brings you closer. What would a younger you have absolutely believed would’ve been a terrible thing, that now, with acquired wisdom, you see is actually good? It’s a bit of a stumper, but I’m sure you’ll come up with something.

Thursday the 2nd we may find ourselves mentally abandoning opportunities or our own standards in an attempt to retreat to the past. We think we’re being practical, but we’re actually being unhealthy, believing that locking out the present is a safe option. How to avoid the general miasma that surrounds this kind of thinking? Embrace the practical or wise, no matter how dull, and then look at it in a totally new way.

'L'Absinthe', by Edgar Degas1875 {{PD}}

‘L’Absinthe’, by Edgar Degas1875 {{PD}}

Word image for the 2nd is a bottle filled with something you cannot drink. It doesn’t matter why you can’t drink it (whether it’s alcohol and you’re an alcoholic, it’s radiator fluid and you’re not a car, and so on)–what does matter is your reaction: do you let what’s forbidden you dominate your thoughts and attention, or do you move on, not noticing the bottle again?

The Nix as a brook horse by Theodor Kittelsen 1908 {{PD}}

The AstroEssence: Subtle undercurrents of ambition, lust, want, and the urge for dominion (a slightly different expression than a straight-for-power grab) will flow beneath the social, creative, and fact-based realities, today; be aware that every interaction is a statement, and believe every statement for the power need/ want it expresses. Look out for the ambitious, and Artists, look to Nature for inspiration (Jupiter parallel Zeus, Neptune semi-sq Ceres)

Today’s word image is a child’s drawing, of the child-artist and her best friend. Imagine the child-artist is you, right now–who would be in that picture with you, your crayon hands linked, a bright Sun shining down on you? How successfully do you nurture that inner child in the present? You’ll likely see how crucial the connection to this individual is, once you look at it in these terms.

For those born with the Sun at 25 Capricorn: You may feel like you’re flying blind this year, but don’t give up; this is an elaborate mechanism you’ve devised in order to bring those things hidden, denied, or that enrage to the surface to be handled, and it’s in the handling that you learn your greatest lesson: You have what you need to know deep inside, and what occurs this Solar year, through to your next birthday, will require you to both trust your own instincts and learn not to suppress or ignore input you don’t like. Now that doesn’t sound too hard, does it? Assets for the year include the way you will develop enhanced critical thinking, the way you will find spiritual sustenance, and, after a struggle, the way the creative urge will serve you. Good luck, Cappy, and Happy Birthday!

Even if it’s not summer where you are, it may feel like it. ‘Nevelzon (A sunny morning)’ Leo Gestel 1910 {{PD}}

The AstroEssence: No matter where you are, or what the weather, it’s going to feel bright and sunny; Love, Opportunity, Reward, Wisdom, whatever asset you value should surround you aplenty, and the resources or opportunity needed to advance ambitions is right there. There are only a couple of things that might keep that bounty tantalizingly out of reach: rejection of our own instincts; confusion fostered by ‘the group’ or our own contrary inclinations; or what Stuart Smalley (now known as Senator Al Franken) used to refer to as “stinkin’ thinkin'”, where we mentally chew the negative ad infinitum–and this can cause us to unknowingly refuse an offering, simply because we won’t recognize it! Remedy is found in accepting that things are okay, if not perfect, and in focusing on what’s going right, on gratitude, rather than adopting a gloomy or pessimistic or reform-minded bent just because that seems more useful (because today it’s not, and will actually lead us into deceiving ourselves) (Venus parallel Jupiter and Zeus, contra-parallel Sedna and Uranus, Merc parallel Pluto, Sun nov Pallas and Hygeia, trine Sedna, sq Ceres, and semi-sq Neptune)

Today’s word image is an incompetent anesthesiologist. Nobody wants that in real life, of course; someone lax or unskilled could kill the patient. As a symbol, though, this is a little complicated. Nobody falls into this profession; it takes years of specialized study and licensing–so then what could cause the incompetence? Inattention, certainly, though again, no one chooses this because they want an easy job. No, the incompetence comes from personal breakdown, mental or emotional, possibly spawning alcohol or drug abuse out of control, and that breakdown and response is itself just a surface reaction to something deeper: despair, depression, a kind of Cosmic indifference, a Universal anger. Maybe this is an admonition to look deeper at some failure we have recently observed; maybe we shouldn’t dismiss it as the bad judgment of a weak individual, but as a symptom of an existential flaw that needs to be addressed and healed. Or, we can take this symbol in another way: someone is trying to ‘gas’ us (deceive or mislead), but they’re not doing a very good job. What or who’s recently drawn your attention by the sheer lack of capability exhibited? Time to give it a deeper look.

For those born with the Sun at 24 Capricorn: I hate to say it, but it’s all about Power for you this coming Solar year, through to your next birthday: yours, and that which is exerted by authorities and others over you, and reaching a reasonable balance where both sides are served may not be easy. On your side in the struggle: sharp instincts, a deep sense of ‘knowing’, and smarts, leavened with a tendency to ignore your own weaknesses. On their side: sheer Will and the weapons of aggression and assertion, with their weakness being ego. You might wonder why you have to battle others for dominion over your own life and energy at this time–all I can tell you is that at some point you lacked stewardship, and now must show you are capable of running your own ship. PS It might not be people, but Nature Herself you’re in a struggle with–no matter what, take good care of yourself. Good luck, Cappy, and Happy Birthday!

The AstroEssence: The Messenger stations direct at 1:43 AM Pacific time, and I find that taking a snapshot of the moment of direction often reveals something about the trends to follow–so here goes. Mercury changes direction while being body of latest degree, which suggests a real turnaround in our conclusions and recently-reached assessments–not a big surprise at a station of Merc, but definitely more pronounced than we might expect, and in Sagittarius what we may find ourselves doing is scanning the horizon, for what we can learn, for ‘the facts’, or to find circumstances that reflect, or where we can implement, our faith. The first aspect Mercury will make (not counting Lunar ones received) will be a quincunx to Vesta, implying that adjustments in the values picture, and within the home and mate relationship, are to be anticipated. Too, we may find ourselves reassessing our commitments; what we value may have irrevocably altered during the retro period, but we’re just finding out, or even beginning to consider the implications, now.

The realizations of direction are accompanied by the urge to act, to ‘correct’ what’s not to our highest standards or what doesn’t reflect our commitments adequately, and we may find our attention repeatedly drawn toward those elements within our ambition or desire picture that don’t support, or that contradict, our identity, the Soul-image we carry of ourselves in ideal form. We may see the benefits in curbing our originality (being part of the group may offer more than being a standout, at this point), and relationships may ask that we forego erratic behavior or a too-spontaneous approach to interaction–but these conditions are only temporary, and it’s still up to us to choose (Merc stations direct, Mars sesq Vesta, Venus semi-sq Uranus, Sun sq Zeus)

Today’s word image is a pair of events: an individual leaps from a balcony railing, in one instance landing on a car, in the other landing on a trampoline and smilingly bouncing up. I’d say this is about how we take a fall, or a let-down, with one alternative ending in ‘crushing’ defeat, and the other suggesting an indomitable spirit that refuses wounding or censure. It’s always our choice how we process a problem or a loss, but we should remember that just because it hurts, it saddens us, or it removes the potential opportunity, doesn’t mean it has to stop our forward momentum or permanently end our efforts. Think of it as a ‘Leap of Faith’, where the faith to recover is more important than the faith it took to make the step in the first place. Do we need to mourn an upset? Of course, that’s part of acceptance and acknowledging what will never be–but if we want to be healthy, we don’t stay in that ‘down’ state, but bounce back, as quickly as we can.

For those born with the Sun at 18 Capricorn: Look to the emotions, especially as they express through the material world, through sustenance, comfort, and security, to navigate this Solar period through to your next birthday; you’ll find plenty of ‘messages’ in the way others share their material bounty that will be a lot more telling than anything they say–and conversely, your best expression of the feeling state comes through translating this into gifts, caretaking, or support of any kind for those you love. It’s an interesting, touchy-feely year for you, where you can, by expressing how you feel, pave the way for ambition and desire fulfillment, without actually having to go directly after them–what you want is instead drawn to you. Good luck, Cappy, and Happy Birthday!

The AstroEssence: Getting our way hurts, or at least leaves us very uncomfortable–whoda thunk? It may be because, as we reach out for what we want, we do so in ways that are already defunct; that is, we try to gain through relationships and interactions, financial situations and value expressions, that are no longer valid, that expired and oops–we didn’t notice, or have time-traveled ourselves, and so forgotten how they evolved, crumbled, or just plain faded away. Don’t get me wrong–they work for obtaining what we want in the moment–but may taint the well, so to speak, as a result. Maybe funnel energy instead into reconsidering relationships and financial situations, and into thinking about what you really want in your life, because current conditions put a glaring spotlight on what’s in play that also contradicts values and/ or is unwise (Chiron sq Juno, Venus conj SN, Sun contra-parallel Vesta and semi-sq Pallas)

Today’s word image is a cup of coffee–but you don’t drink coffee. What’s being offered to you right now that you believe isn’t to your taste–or that you’ve actually sworn off of, for one reason or another? Consider that it may be time to try something new, to shake things up, and to realize that there’s no actual virtue in making hard and fast, but ultimately irrelevant, rules for living.

For those born with the Sun at 17 Capricorn: Was it you who transformed, or did your whole world just fall from beneath your feet? If the former, good for you, you’re on to your next stage of life, little butterfly–but if the latter, you have to triage your life during this Solar year, through to your next birthday, so that you can understand (and so permanently, emotionally release) why what happened happened. In either case, bringing forward with you what’s worthwhile from the past is important; so is recognizing that there’s only so much mulling to be done–then it’s time to accept and move on. Also, beware being too aggressive, or accepting to much interference from others–a balance is definitely needed. Good luck, Cappy, and Happy Birthday!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

The AstroEssence: What we refuse to intuit will hurt us; that is, if we disdain instinctive knowledge for a more commonly agreed-upon reality, we will suffer from those things hidden, ignored, or that enrage, and this will both skew thinking and undermine our efforts to see to our health and well-being. Too, actions may not have the results we expect them to; it’s a day best spent in low-key or creative pursuits (Black Moon Lilith opp Sedna, Neptune sq Hygeia, Mars parallel Neptune, Merc qnx Vesta)

For those born with the Sun at 11 Capricorn: It’s all about Love and Assets this year–and you may face challenges in both arenas, with the big danger that you may be feeling too erratic, too rebellious, or are too intent on being ‘original’, and so end up tanking both social standing and any real opportunity to achieve goals and meet desires. So, Self-control is obviously the key to success this coming Solar year, through to your next birthday. Bonus: if you have something natally at, or when transiting bodies pass through, 16-22 Gemini, consider this a highly fortuitous time, when results will go far beyond the effort you put into them, and ‘luck’ is with you, so watch the skies–speaking of which, Good Luck, Cappy, and Happy Birthday!

The AstroEssence: Our confidence levels determine how adept we are at going after what we want today, and this is measured in two ways: how well we’ve reconciled our personal sense of injury with those wounds ‘approved’ by the social order (are we open about our hurt, is there shame surrounding it that makes us hide, do we feel acceptance of our injuries, perhaps through supportive foundations or groups, or do we feel no one is capable of understanding our precise wound?), and how closely connected to the ‘ideal’ (whatever that may be in your own mind) our steps to address or remedy our wounds have been. If we feel we’ve been effective at doing what we could to alleviate our pain (even if we still hold that pain), then we are likely to be highly aware of our own power within the life situation, and so wield it in the name of getting what we want/ deserve; if we’ve not, for one reason or another, been willing to see to our own health, we may find the power to affect things taken from our hands. We could call it a moment of living karma, and we could note that the degrees of successful deployment of our energy are relative, mostly to our own understanding of hurt and reward. We may be preoccupied in the moment, however, with our own actions and choices, with some of us following the dream, some allowing the ego to lead (or mislead), some allowing inspiration to flow through, and some taking creative action of significant proportions. The day holds a lot of potential; don’t be hard on yourself if you find at the end of it that you review and see many more layers to things than initially appeared (Juno sxt Zeus, Jupiter qnx Chiron, Mars conj Neptune and both sq Hygeia, Venus nov Pluto, Sun sesq Sedna)

For those born with the Sun at 10 Capricorn: Review of the past, of past accomplishments, and particularly of the things that may have kept us from doing or being is on the agenda–and it’s tremendously effective fuel to create present-day change. You are at the perfect point as an individual to use the intellect and your deep sense of understanding to transform the life; you have a clear idea of how you want to live and who you want to be, and you can make it happen. It may not be easy, but it will be immensely rewarding, especially in the way you can reinforce relationships, and all interactions based on love. Good luck, Cappy, and Happy Birthday!

The AstroEssence: Here’s an odd configuration: Jupiter and Uranus are in opposition (and playing off the Nodes), Sedna and Black Moon Lilith are in opposition, with Uranus semi-square Sedna and sesquiquadrate Black Moon Lilith, while Jupiter is semi-square BML and sesquiquadrate Sedna. It’s like a skinny Mystic Rectangle, with all the fun pressed out. Why so much stress? For many, it’s Christmas, a time equally fraught with joy and pressure; but for everyone, it seems the tension between complete freedom in the form of total license contrasts directly in some way with the call for social conformity, or possibly contradicts the impulse toward freedom by demanding the individual stick to ‘the facts’, or draws in chaos and the unanticipated with each attempt at expansion. This occurs simultaneous to a tug-of-war between our instincts and ‘deep knowing’, and all those matters we’ve ignored, denied, or that enrage us–and each of the oppositions interact under unpleasant conditions. This suggests each individual will be under enormous internal tension and has a good chance of responding in undisciplined fashion to externals if the pressure remains unconscious; it may feel as if one’s fate is at stake, when it really isn’t. With conscious awareness this kind of overblown, reactive thinking comes the option of refusing the radical response in favor of the less rigid, less judgmental one, which is wise, considering how easily this can escalate into a lose/ lose situation.

This isn’t the only perfecting influence today. We’ll just be entering Dark of the Moon territory late in the day Pacific time, and that means the impetus and energy could drain away from both positive and negative endeavors. We also see a very busy Venus that offers ideal conditions, dreams come true, spiritual fulfillment, and gives the resources, especially spiritual and emotional ones, to reach out to others, to take offered opportunities, and to support permanent change or the building of a new foundation. That is, if you want to act better, want to respond more kindly and more accurately to others, today is the day to make that reform a reality. We may also see a lot of fortuitous opportunity and lucky spontaneous synchronicities that may, oddly enough, bolster confidence in the caring nature of the Universe, and this allows us to purge our thinking of destructive or negative tendencies. We come out the other side of this smelling like roses, while never losing our awareness of those things we haven’t yet handled, but will need to (Venus at the midpoint of Saturn-Uranus sxt both and trine Jupiter, Merc parallel Pluto and nov Venus, Sun nov Black Moon Lilith)

Today’s word image is a cup of tea, where the leaves settle in the bottom of the cup and take the shape of a leaping dolphin. Reading tea leaves is, of course, a form of prognostication; it’s literally the dregs of what made the beverage in the first place, ‘speaking’ to you! Living is a lot like sipping tea: we take it in a bit at a time, it scalds if it’s too hot or becomes unappealing if it’s too cold, and if we’ll bother to look at the aftermath of our interactions, we’ll find a clear though likely symbolic message about our choices and our future.

For those born with the Sun at 4 Capricorn: The first half or so of your Solar year, through to your next birthday, may be quiet, at least on the inside, as you ponder some serious and even dark matters, especially as they pertain to who you are–but by the second half of the year, you are ready to launch: a business, a new venture, a marriage, an assault, a missile–the list is virtually endless, but it all has the objective of allowing you to make your mark on the world–it’s time. Good luck, Cappy, and Happy Birthday!

The AstroEssence: We are empowered by doing, by choosing, and our choices are wise ones, as our attention is on the practical, on our current skills, and on what’s smart–who can quibble with that? One caveat: put health first–and that may require modifying ambitions and denying desires that could hold the seeds of destruction–be willing to pull back, investing energy in what works, what makes sense, and what you can build on (Hygeia semi-sq Zeus, Mars parallel Juno, Mercury parallel Hygeia, Sun sxt Pallas)

Today’s word image is a bird, confused, that keeps fluttering up against a window, trying to get up into the rafters. A bird makes me think of the part of each of us that is truly free–and if that part of us is confused, it keeps trying to express our freedom, to behave in an unfettered and spontaneous way, in an inappropriate place. Are you trying to express yourself in the wrong place? If there’s some arena where you’re showing who you are, and yet not succeeding in the way you expect to, consider that it’s not your efforts that are inappropriate, it’s the venue where you’re trying to present them.

For those born with the Sun at 27 Sagittarius: Wisdom is yours–whether you want it or not–and this will have real-world consequences that may make for a deep emotional impact. You’d think being wise would be great, right? The problem is, as human beings, sometimes we don’t want to be wise; sometimes that generates heartbreak, makes us abandon a dream, or makes us be far more practical than our creative Soul might wish. Try not to see such clarity as a burden–if you’re brave, you can take yourself far this Solar year by listening to that voice of wisdom you carry inside. Good luck, Sagittarius, and Happy Birthday!
