The AstroEssence: We resist preoccupation with those things that linger in the shadows, that distress us and distract from what needs to be done; we instead rush headlong into the future–at least in our own minds, if not in the actions we pursue. Not having our minds on the present can signal inspired thinking that takes us forward, or inattentiveness that kills efforts on the vine. Relationships and finances take their most healthy forms–and that means that any ‘falling away’ we experience at this time is really the best course for us, and that unpleasantness or lack is meant to foster better approaches and methods in us–so one way or another, we benefit (Venus parallel Hygeia, Mercury semi-sq Black Moon Lilith and trine NN)

Today’s word image is a single page from a book. It flutters down from the book shelf, you read it and would like to know what book it comes from as it’s intriguing, but none of the books on the shelves match the page! This image reminded me of those memories that pop up and seem not to fit anything about your life–maybe it’s a way you behaved once, maybe it’s something that happened that seems like a dream now, so unlikely did the events play out, but whatever it is, it doesn’t have a place within who you are; instead it’s an outlier that can make us uncomfortable, as it hints at either unacknowledged facets within ourselves, or that life is much less predictable than we suppose. If you’ve had some kind of memory like this ‘visit’ you lately, welcome it, because it probably tells you about something, some quality or inclination, that lingers just below the surface, and that you might be smart to take a stand on before it influences things again.

For those born with the Sun at 17 Sagittarius: Opportunity and desire will serendipitously come together for you this coming Solar year, through to your next birthday–so what more do you need? An awareness both that time is passing, and that the unexpected could play a big role in what occurs after you take advantage of those chances to get what you want, and in being aware that the time frame for modifying and fine-tuning the Self is over–it’s time to work with what you’ve got, perfected or not. Good luck, Sagittarius, and Happy Birthday!

The AstroEssence: Venus enters Aquarius and feelings, especially surrounding relationships, get crossed with the intellect; emotional perceptions will lag behind real-world events, and that means we’ll realize we needed a witty retort, will get upset with what was communicated, or feel we must answer someone or something, well after the event that triggered the feeling. This may send a large number of us around grumbling under our breath, and result in choices and actions that have the aim of showing us our own power–whether that’s a productive goal or not. Because of the emotional experience, we may become enamored of flexing our muscles, just to show we can. It arises from a feeling of helplessness engendered by the frustration of those lagging emotional perceptions, but we should take care to look at the content of the frustration more than the feeling itself; we’re likely to find that we’re hanging our agitated emotions on a minor incident that doesn’t warrant such a response. Too, examining the actual exchange may reveal something we need to address that can remove the source of (probably unconscious) irritation, once and for all.

We should also talk about the squine (yes, ugly name, isn’t it? It comes from the way this contact of 105 degrees falls just between a square–90 degrees–and a trine–120) formed between Mercury and Uranus-Ceres (with Uranus-Ceres also contacting Chiron and Mars, the latter aspecting Mercury). Squines may tell us about difficult situations that bring luck or ease, or conversely, about something we think we can breeze through that brings no end of conflict. In this instance, we might see Uranus-Ceres in Aries as representative of the individual impulses toward both power and originality, with Mercury in Capricorn suggesting restrictive thoughts, communications, and ideas from the Self or others. In the most general terms this could suggest that something forbids, restrains, or requires discipline or a definite ‘shape’, and we respond either spontaneously and uniquely, or spontaneously and rebelliously, but either way we make our choice, influenced by our wounds and our need to act and show others our power within the situation–for better or worse. Also important to know: our ambitions and desires don’t enjoy the benefit of our instincts today–so stick to the facts and don’t indulge impulses in this department–they are more likely prompted by fears or wishes than the guidance of internal knowing (Mars sxt Ceres, Merc semi-sq Mars, Zeus contra-parallel Sedna, Venus enters Aquarius)

Here’s your Venus in Aquarius experience

Today’s word image is the color green. It’s our color for sychronicities, for grabbing our attention and bringing us into the present moment, and suggests when we notice it we may have an opportunity for growth, we may be meeting something entirely new and should be aware of that (we’re ‘green’ in the sense of inexperienced), or it could be a warning that we are possibly jealous and unaware of it (‘the green-eyed monster’ ‘green with jealousy’).

For those born with the Sun at 16 Sagittarius: serious, earth-shattering revelations and change are on the agenda for you, now through to your next birthday, but the funny thing is, this may happen without your conscious awareness, and may be so subtle or behind-the-scenes that it ends up taking you completely by surprise. It may go down like this: the change comes, and with it opportunity/ good fortune–and you must take that while you can, as you’ll either soon be required to take on a solid, dependable role, or will be faced with a formidable obstacle. That’s your map for the coming year. Good luck, Sagittarius, and Happy Birthday!

‘La mort de la mère’ Ernest Lincker c1911 {{PD}}

The AstroEssence: Benefits of all kinds come from ‘clean living’ (whatever that means to you) and this apparently involves pursuing our ambitions, being creative, and being open to spontaneous action. It seems health in all areas comes from a positive and pro-active Self-focus that calls for realization of our goals. That’s a very nice recipe for going after exactly what we want, but keep in mind: success with these energies requires us to reassess our commitments (willingly revising our standards so they are real-world oriented and practical), be cautious, as making choices and taking action brings the unexpected, and we need to be actively aware that the spotlight will naturally fall on the Beautiful, the Prosperous, on Relationships, Finances, areas of Cooperation, Diplomatic endeavors, and on those things that we might envy. With those matters spotlighted, we need to either learn from what we observe and/ or be aware that what we’re seeing is exaggerated, and may present an unreal level of ‘perfection’ that we should not expect ourselves to attain (chiefly because it’s essentially an illusion) (Hygeia nov Zeus, Mars sxt Uranus, Venus sxt Hygeia and nov Neptune, Mercury qnx Vesta, Sun parallel Venus)

Edvard Munch - Death and the Child (1899) {{PD}}

Edvard Munch – Death and the Child (1899) {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a dream I had last night, the message of which I will translate: no one can escape death. Grim, right? Except, how differently would we behave if we actually accepted that idea, that we would indeed one day end (at least in our current form)? If we did accept it, that is, truly realize it, we would probably have a viewpoint much closer to the one we see in those who have gone through a terrible ordeal, a disaster, a life-changing illness, or a near-death experience: we would likely see things in a more eternal light, with much different kinds of ‘investment’ made in the everyday. What we appreciate would change markedly, as would what we care about. It’s worth trying to consciously adopt a seriously long view in our decision-making and our energy investments at this point, mostly because we just can’t know what our choices will bring (reflected by the current Mars-Uranus sextile).

For those born with the Sun at 15 Sagittarius: If you can accept some major change that’s coming up shortly, you will encounter some big opportunities or ‘lucky’ turn of events this Solar year, through to your next birthday. These will, perhaps surprisingly, be followed by the need for serious hard work, in order to make the most of them, to cement their benefits in place, and to make the achievements they make possible permanent. At the same time, the emotional life may be tough, as feelings may clash with your Self-image and you could be the victim of deception, or possibly just fall for an illusion. Good luck, Sagittarius, and Happy Birthday!

The AstroEssence for the 3rd: We may be misguided about the intentions or actual actions of those in charge–and we clash, or we show our upset, feeling we’re not allowed to be our most creative Self. That’s really just a distraction, though, and only those who are busy avoiding knowing what they can do to improve their own situation stall there. Everyone else sees the opportunity promised by solid effort, and the gains to be made by accessing instinct and being willing to look at our own weaknesses, and then do something about them (Neptune sq Juno, Jupiter nov NN, Mars sxt Saturn, Venus trine Sedna)

Crows Fly by Red Sky at Sunset Portfolio/Series: from the Series Hana Kurabe. Artist: Shibata Zeshin {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a crow. I’ve seen and heard this bird referred to an unusual number of times in the past 24 hours–and that usually means it’s something to pay attention to. The striking thing is that most of the references were negative, referring to them as pests–but to me they’re something of a totem, a creature much more intelligent (there’s video here, crow vs. kindergartner here, and a little something on their love life here) than we’ve realized before, even able to communicate with one another, to recognize different humans, and to use tools. As a symbol the crow suggests there’s something or someone operating in our sphere that we’re underestimating–and so perhaps not respecting, or giving the regard, we should.

For those born with the Sun at 12 Sagittarius: It may seem that relationships or funds you thought were in the bag are now slipping away–but were they ever really in your grasp? This Solar year, through to your next birthday, you’re going to see what made you think you had it, what made it slip away, and you’ll more than likely be given a second chance. Make the most of it by 1) putting actual, physical (or at least materially tangible) hard work into it, and 2) by not allowing the emotions (which will probably feel like they’re at a crisis point through much of the year) to be subsumed by the intellect. Follow that prescription, and you should reach your next birthday in a much better position to get what you want–you might even by then already have it. Good luck, Sagittarius, and Happy Birthday!

The AstroEssence for the 4th: This may be a day when we and others are inclined to go right for what we desire, and yet there’s this undercurrent, a sense that we’ve forgotten something, or that there’s something we just don’t see, that’s going to catch up with us. If we’re willing to accept we may have made a poor decision or two, or hurt someone in the past, then we will (for lack of a better word) attract a much more positive outcome to our efforts. Maybe it’s the power of genuine humility, or maybe it’s that in removing the kinds of barriers that denial erects, we allow a lot more good stuff in, too (Chiron sesq Vesta, Neptune parallel SN, Mars trine Zeus, Venus nov SN, Mercury nov Black Moon Lilith)

The Crystal Ball (1902) by John William Waterhouse {{PD}}

The Crystal Ball (1902) by John William Waterhouse {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a crystal ball. In the figurative sense, we’re always hoping someone has one and can tell us what’s coming. Don’t worry about what’s coming–and in particular, don’t worry about what others are saying is coming. Soothsayer or not, nobody really knows what tomorrow brings.

For those born with the Sun at 13 Sagittarius: You’ll be attaining emotional equilibrium soon–and after some time of being off-balance, that will feel really good. This coming Solar year, through to your next birthday, you really want to want to use that balanced state to get done all that you Want To Do, but don’t get ahead of yourself–first you need to clear our what doesn’t belong. Then you’ll be able to go full steam ahead. Good luck, Sagittarius, and Happy Birthday!

The AstroEssence for the 5th: The outlook? Love and/ or Money appears or makes its presence known, in real-world terms. That might be very very good (Venus nov Saturn)

Today’s word image is a cat sleeping curled on a window ledge. What can we learn from a cat, besides independence, good Self-esteem, and grace? A cat never makes itself stay awake. Get all the rest you need, and don’t feel bad for doing it.

For those born with the Sun at 14 Sagittarius: You’re closing in on finishing, accomplishing, or otherwise laying the foundations for something you’ve worked at for a long time–so what seems to be the problem? Your own ambitions may be the sticking point; you may be insisting on having things just so–and that suggests you’re not trusting the Universe quite as much as you might need to, to get the best results. Relax, and know that you’re on the way to having that hard work recognized–just got to loosen up a bit, first. Good luck, Sagittarius, and Happy Birthday!

Pierre-Auguste Renoir – ‘Le Déjeuner au bord de la rivière’ c1879 {{PD}}

The AstroEssence: What’s good for us has the benefit of somehow expanding our world, and that’s undeniably positive, though how that expansion unfolds and what it brings are dependent on a particular equation: the tension created by conflict between our own empowerment, ability to choose, and ability to translate our Will into effective change or creation, and our pure creative urge, our fantasies, and/ or our delusions, determines what benefits we receive. So, empowerment divided by the impetus of the imagination equals rewards of Love or Money (or, in worst case scenarios, costs us, or brings jealousy or competitive nastiness). Today we’ll move to do something positive for ourselves, and the result depends both on how firmly we understand how to turn our intentions into reality, and how firmly we are connected to the real-world possibilities of our imagination. Luckily, thinking runs along practical and cautious lines, and so promises to be more of an aid than a stumbling block (Jupiter nov Hygeia, Venus at the midpoint of the Juno-Neptune square, Mercury enters Capricorn)

Groundhog (Marmota monax), near Peyto Lake (Alberta) Photo by Reinhard Kraasch CC BY-SA 3.0

Today’s word image is a groundhog. Uh-oh, are we repeating something we could easily avoid or improve on, if we’d only apply the necessary insight? That may sound a bit as if I’m saying, “Just be enlightened, okay?” but I’m really saying we all carry those answers inside, the ones that can guide our behavior and perceptions in a way that aligns with our highest goals and values; it’s up to each of us to recognize that, in reality, we know what the ‘right’ approach or response is, but we let our human fears and needs get in the way and muddy the waters. Today we must recognize that we could move past this tiresome re-run, if we’d only take the high road out of there.

For those born with the Sun at 11 Sagittarius: This coming Solar year, through to your next birthday, you may find that your emotional perceptions are unfolding in such a way that they reveal you to be someone you never thought you were! The surprises over your emotional responses will be as much yours as anyone else’s, and may be profoundly confusing to you, until you realize this: the current emotional perceptions are built on permanent changes already in place–and your feelings are just now catching up. Though you might like this ‘New You’ (you’ll likely be more in control of your emotional expression, and emotions may support constructive action) there could be down sides, too (you may find yourself being harsh in judgment or withholding of affection or approval, when things don’t go your way). Tempering the temper, so to speak, is what this coming year is all about. Good luck, Sagittarius, and Happy Birthday!

1 December 2016 Belief-Driven Action

Julius Exter {{PD}}

Julius Exter {{PD}}

It’s time to ask ourselves, in all honesty, what we’re actually putting out into the world. Are you a cheerful person? Do you choose the more positive take on any situation, the more negative (out of caution, perhaps), or the one that fits your beliefs? Are you realistic? Do you consider the psychic impact of what you’re saying or doing, beyond its veracity or the need to convey it? Are you a complainer, feeling justified in spewing your anger (sometimes dressed up as righteous commentary), not aware of the fact that you’re adding to, rather than alleviating, the garbage level? Just a thought, to make us all, myself included, more aware of what we’re really sharing with others.

Though I don’t usually take note of the apparent direction or retrograde motion of the asteroids (mostly because their meaning is so much a slice of other, major energies that we need to keep our eye on the big boys, instead–and since all bodies are only meaningful in relation to other bodies or points, a change in direction on its own doesn’t tell us much of anything–plus, there’s the whiplash factor with some asteroids, so that their apparent direction changes happen so frequently they become meaningless), today I want to make an exception, as we see Vesta go retro and Chiron go direct, as they form a sesquiquadrate to each other. Add to this that Saturn (parallel Hygeia) loosely fills in a Fist by square to Chiron, and we may see this: real-world ‘wounds’ or skills are required, through difficult circumstances, to manifest within the reality picture (that is, in concrete terms), and the result shows us just how our egos are aligning (or not) with those things we revere. This brings a reality check (a ‘health check’, really) on our support of our own causes, measuring how dedicated we actually are to the mate or the home life, and so offering a chance to course-correct, should we be weighting one side of the scales too much, either too selfishly, or too selflessly, for the overall good.

We also see a trine of two major players, Mars and Jupiter, in Air signs. Mars in Aquarius brings action and choice prompted by the intellect (positives: inclined to think before we do; negatives: we may be too disconnected from realities to make the best choices), and Jupiter in Libra promises an expansion of fairness (but possibly only after extremes have been swung between), the expectation of partnering with the social order (so that the individual may make the mistake of believing that the social sphere is in agreement with their personal agenda), opportunity through cooperation (though there is the danger we may acquiesce too much, trying to be fair) or through the partner, the Arts, the mate, and Jupiter in this sign invites beliefs to invade relationships, either supporting or clouding the interaction. The two planets trine implies belief-driven action but offers no guarantee as to how accurate the perceptions guiding our efforts truly are. Current conditions suggest we are more than a little susceptible to believing our own press, so that awareness of the skewed nature of the personal viewpoint becomes something we must embrace consciously, in order to both allow others plenty of leeway, and to navigate things as successfully as possible ourselves.

Vincenzo Cabianca c1860 {{PD}}

Vincenzo Cabianca c1860 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a nun walking the corridors of a hospital. This seems to be a symbol of two things: submission to a greater power (subjugation of the ego) and dedication to service in the form of facilitating healing. We don’t have to go to such blatant lengths as entering a religious order to serve others or our God–but we do need to recognize and be consciously dedicated in this life to some variety of causes or commitments, in order to be living to the fullest.

For those born with the Sun at 10 Sagittarius: This year you may find yourself reaping the rewards of your creative or imaginative efforts, or your dedication to ideals–or not reaping them, if you’ve previously failed to put your all into action. You may have suffered under the illusion that you have plenty of time to make that dream a reality–this year will be a wake-up call reminding you that it’s your job to translate wants and fantasies into their real-life expressions. The good news is the mind and emotions are primed to go to work, and to see the most practical route to dream realization–so go for it. Good luck, Sagittarius, and Happy Birthday!

30 November 2016 Clean Up

Edgar Germain Hilaire Degas c1877 {{PD}}

The AstroEssence: We may insist on a bit of psychic housecleaning today, urged on by thoughts of the future, and particularly thoughts of where our relationships and/ or financial situation are taking us, and also by those matters too long hidden, ignored, denied, or that enrage, and so must be addressed. We’ll be intent on sweeping out the corners, on ridding ourselves of illusions, on airing out all that’s been sequestered, forbidden, or that seems unjust–and we must be aware of and ready for the potential for this action to bring change to relationships and/or material matters and earning. There is also the matter of our being faced with exactly which dreams are feasible, and which must be let go. Whatever shifts occur, whether they appear so or not, will be done in the interests of what’s to come; we may not see it this way right now, but changes that happen will, eventually, be seen as having been in our own best interests (Venus sesq NN and sxt Black Moon Lilith, Sun-Earth axis sq Neptune)

‘Pair of Scissors and Sparrow’ Katsushika Hokusai (葛飾北斎) {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a pair of scissors where the blades just don’t meet effectively anymore. How many things are we holding on to that aren’t capable of ‘doing the job’ any longer? In other words, what in our lives just doesn’t ‘cut it’ at this point? This symbol offers hints as to where to begin that housecleaning.

For those born with the Sun at 9 Sagittarius: It looks like you’ve got your sh*t together, and it’s a good thing, as you meet a point of fate at some time this Solar year, through to your next birthday. In time you’ll recognize this as-yet undetermined event as a major life turning point–so keep that in mind as things go down. You may also be faced with either going after that Big Dream or letting it go, once and for all. None of this will be easy or completely pain-free, but what it will cost you in loss of fantasies and an uncomfortably clear look at the reality picture, will end up benefiting you in terms of your ability to apply critical thinking to making your dreams come true. Good luck, Sagittarius, and Happy Birthday!

Juno’s symbol, out in the elements. By J.-H. Janßen – Own work, CC BY-SA 3.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=21877131

The AstroEssence: We see permanent change to the health, to the health of relationships or finances, and/ or to power situations, their balance and influence. The group may have their say and it influences our own state or assets, or it may be that sudden revelations, a forward-thinking approach, or our own erratic impulses guide our actions and reactions–but in any case our thinking is not in alignment with either our instincts or that primal ‘knowing’ we carry deep within, and that means we may not see how our own inclinations and prejudices are working to shape things, for better or worse (Pluto parallel Hygeia, Venus sq Ceres and Uranus and sxt Chiron, Mercury qnx Sedna)

The New Moon in Sagittarius occurs at 4:17 AM PST at 7 SAG 42, closely conjoined asteroid Juno, square the Nodal axis, sesquiquadrate Uranus-Ceres, square Neptune and trine Vesta. The NM scenario echoes that of the transiting script; that is, we see a very similar story in the Lunar event and the completed aspect picture, though they don’t actually connect to each other. A Sag New Moon is a new beginning that brings our gaze to the far-off horizon; it marks an inception that stirs us to travel, to move, to do (New Moon in a Fire sign), sparking a restless energy that must be exorcised via action. The aspects the NM makes tell us how the energy will flow, in seeking fulfillment, and we know from the sign placement that what begins now is born out of optimism, is an expression of faith, or is something that arises from ‘the facts’, whatever those may be.

Conjoined Juno and square the Nodal axis, the NM promises that what begins here is centered on power and life direction, specifically at a personal level, and that creates a conduit meshing (and so making sense of) the future as it grows out of the past. It may be easier than at any previous time to see how what we’ve been and done in the past has lead to now, and we’ll clearly see what this presages for the future. Illusions or fantasies that block our perceptions will be stripped away–to keep them means we must turn away from the new start–and those most unique facets of our identity and our individuality must adjust to what’s presented here, namely the most effective way to our own empowerment. ‘Natural’ roles and expressions (for instance, our role as a woman or a man, as a mother or father, or as a sexual or creative Being) shouldn’t be ignored in choosing our life direction; we are meant to seek a place among the elements at this time, though we might be tempted to deny that these life-long role-affinities are still a part of us (out of a need to feel we’ve grown beyond them, perhaps?) We need to recognize that the NM offers an event or beginning that allows us to bring these roles to a higher, more authoritative expression, one that brings their realization much closer to our ideal.

We have the support of the mate or home environment, and can count on our highest values to help define the new start we’re offered; we also see how those things to which we’ve chosen to dedicate our energy literally create the Path forward–again, how the past has formed and informs the future. Today’s scenario may be one where we are caught up with the daily aspects in such a way that our attention goes to those permanent changes, as we attempt to manage them, so that both the unconscious and the New Moon slip in their influence without our seeing it, until a little time has passed. This is supported by the Sabian symbol for the New Moon: ‘Within The Depths Of The Earth New Elements Are Being Formed’. Deeper elements of the Self will bubble to the surface, in time; they are called forth by changes in the current landscape, and by the promise of what’s on the horizon–and, whether we are aware of it or not, they begin to form, to gain coherence and cohesion, with this Sagittarius New Moon.

new-moon-in-sagittarius-november-2016

For those born with the Sun at 8 Sagittarius: As the Sun enters the 8th degree of the sign, it is precisely conjoined with Juno, with no variation at all, and is also exactly square the Nodes. This is of note if only because we rarely see such a crisp picture involving more than one body or point–and here it suggests you are, at this point in time, a totally empowered Being, and that the events this coming Solar year, through to your next birthday, will revolve around you seeing how your past has created your future. It may be upsetting, disheartening, or exhilarating, to realize with such clarity how much you have been in charge of your own life and fate all along, but its best purpose is to open your eyes to the fact that this year, there’s nothing stopping you from making your life exactly what you want it to be. Here’s a hint to go about it: rewards come from taking a chance, from unexpected sources, and by demonstrating your own originality. Good luck, Sag, and Happy Birthday!

Hesperides were guardians of the tree that produced golden apples, a gift to earth from Hera. Frederic Leighton, 1892 {{PD}}

The 26th: . . . how the powerful have affected us. Though initially we may ponder how authorities and those who hold power have helped and hindered us, including how much they’ve wounded us and limited our options, but we progress fairly quickly to considering how uniquely we’ve responded to these pressures, and how they have shaped who we are today. This is a highly positive experience that involves, consciously or not, cataloguing our attributes, talents, and the resiliency of the spirit–and has the benefit of showing us precisely how to shape our efforts and power expressions so that they both pay off handsomely and take us in the direction we want to go (NN nov Zeus, Venus nov Juno, Merc trine Uranus and Ceres, and sq Chiron, Sun parallel Hygeia)

Today’s word image is a snake. Look for it to draw your attention to sychronicities, to deja vu experiences, to moments when it’s vital you be alert to what’s happening at that time. It doesn’t necessarily signify danger, but rather an opportunity for ‘knowing’.

For those born with the Sun at 5 Sagittarius: Is it that you’re solidly grounded in your values and priorities, and so ready to take on a new and enhanced status, or that you need to get your footing with how you feel about what really matters, so that you can determine just what status you’re really seeking? Only you know which is your current state; be prepared for your most striking characteristic this year, through to your next birthday, no matter which state you’re in, to be a mainly intellectual stance, one of spontaneity, unreliability, forward-thinking, but possibly having difficulty connecting with others. This year is likely, probably below a conscious level, to rearrange everything in your life. Good luck, Sagittarius, and Happy Birthday!

The 27th: . . . ourselves and what we need. We have a firm grasp on our values and a clear idea of what needs to change or be eliminated, even as we indulge in our most erratic or original behaviors. We need to gain from our ambitions; this is a need arising from an even deeper need to know that our choices have been wise and/ or practical. This may cause some distress as we wrestle with ourselves and our environments, trying to answer our own questions. We should adjust what we find to fit what we know to be smart–and we may be wise to make peace with ‘the group’, as well (Venus sq Zeus, Merc sxt Pallas, the Sun sesq Uranus, trine Vesta, and nov Pluto)

Today’s word image is toast. Wow! Something’s done for, colloquially speaking. Make sure you see what needs to end, what’s truly finished, so that you can get out in front of it, or at least gain a little distance from the conflagration.

For those born with the Sun at 6 Sagittarius: You are currently adjusting your ideas and expression of your own power–and it’s not easy. The inclination is to be both much more solitary, and much more headstrong, than you really need to, to get your point across. Just remember, you’re not an island, even when you achieve your optimum level of autonomy, so make an effort to connect with others, especially in those times when it seems your feelings are hidden from everyone, even yourself. Good luck, Sagittarius, and Happy Birthday!

The 28th: . . . aligning our efforts with reality. We recognize that at least some of those impulses we classify as ‘instincts’ are instead conditioned responses that are, at the very least, unhealthy. Our focus today is on respecting reality, and making our own efforts work with, rather than against, what is. We’re more than willing to sacrifice what must be eliminated, and change what needs change, in the hope of getting a grip on our own power within the life situation–and it works, as long as we keep a steady eye on our desired destination (Hygeia opp Sedna, Chiron sesq Vesta, Sun parallel Saturn and Pluto, and sesq Ceres, this latter aspect forming a Fist of God when we fill in with the NN)

Today’s word image is a glass of warm saké. Relax. All is as it should be–and if you feel you can point to exactly what’s wrong, that could be a sign of unbridled hubris, assessing your judgment as superior to the wisdom of the Universe. Not doing so is the definition of ‘humility’.

For those born with the Sun at 7 Sagittarius: You are fully empowered to do as you please, this year through to your next birthday, but one thing you need to understand is that this doesn’t obligate others to go along with what you want. You must draw a fine line between fully enjoying your status and alienating others with your demands. It’s especially important that you tread with care at this time as your feelings will not be apparent to yourself or others, and that means you could end up regretting a choice or two once you regain contact with your emotional sensibilities. Matters of the House in the natal chart that holds Cancer could be the source of revelations. Good luck, Sagittarius, and Happy Birthday!

The AstroEssence: The conflict between enlarging, gaining, optimizing, and destroying, obliterating, permanently altering, may be confusing at first; why would one turn away from the opportunity to widen one’s world, to learn, to educate, to discover knowledge, especially as it pertains to or enhances our relationships (Jupiter in Libra), preferring or pushing for a kind of nuclear winter, in one form or another? Some do so, perhaps, with the idea that pulling down the old rules, institutions, barriers, and structures is uniformly a good thing, and that they do it with the support of others moving in lock-step with them–but that ignores the human need for containment, shelter, and the security offered by having at least some knowables in our sphere.

Or, matters may take the form of something as stark as Knowledge versus Power, or the stability and cooperation of the social order pitted against the rage of those denied, who are looking to burn it down, or with the best of intentions transform it–but in any case, a clash is to be expected, even as we can also look for opportunities to rise from the ashes. There is also the potential for all forms of Power to enlarge their scope, to spread, and perhaps to box in those looking to the facts, or looking to exploit options. This is what the Jupiter-Pluto square may bring–it also perfects on 30 March 2017 and 4 August 2017–but this time we meet it with our minds and thoughts attuned to beauty, love, and kindness, to the transformative power of desire, and with thoughts focused on ambitions, both personal and for our society. We can take the energy of conflict and re-shape it at this time, according to the facts and the extent of our optimism; we very quickly find out what the changes or destruction we make costs, and what results from our choices may make it a challenge to remember our own standards, as well as just what power and authority we personally hold. Danger comes in the form of poorly-thought-through rebellion, or in demands that others honor our uniqueness or see us as original despite our need for personal housecleaning, in terms of needing to deal with what we’ve ignored or denied, first.

It’s a time when Power and Opportunity intersect, initially clashing, but at the same time offering ways in which we can, by resolving tensions between them, make use of their possibilities. We can enhance our power at this time, widen our viewpoint and our influence, and potentially ruin chances if we go too far in our desire to refurbish–so tread with lots of optimism, and some care (Thursday: Jupiter sq Pluto, Mercury parallel Venus and sxt Zeus; Friday: Juno sesq Ceres, Uranus qnx Black Moon Lilith, Venus conj Pluto and sq Jupiter, Mercury sesq Vesta, Sun semi-sq Zeus)

The word image for these two days: a musical instrument, long laid aside, is picked up once again. Maybe this is just an extension of yesterday’s image, suggesting that we reconnect with whatever instrument allowed us to ‘sing our song’. Expect the return of an old skill, pleasure, talent, and its expression, renewed and ready to be part of our lives once again.

For those born with the Sun at 3 Sagittarius: How can I say this without sounding scary? The darkness, the unexpected, and what initially seems destructive or negative leads to some very rewarding places this Solar year, through to your next birthday. What seems chaotic actually breeds a chance for emotional harmony, especially in relationships and cooperative efforts. Just accept that things may seem confusing, and try not to be too focused on creating a specific outcome–ride the wave of what comes at you, and you can create some interesting and powerful instances of success. Good luck, Sagittarius, and Happy Birthday!

For those born with the Sun at 4 Sagittarius: You appear to be on the cusp of a status change, but you may go through an extended ‘black out’ period preceding this that may seem, for all intents and purposes, as if nothing is going to happen. Whether this is felt to be a positive or negative shift in your standing really depends on what you’ve built (or insisted on tearing down) previously–and during the waiting period, you can push things in a positive direction, mostly by cooperating and coordinating with others. Strong suits this coming Solar year include a willingness to take action, and a kind of genius for spotting opportunities to make all things ‘healthier’, however that applies. Good luck, Sagittarius, and Happy Birthday!
