No need to hide or feel bad, Scorpio, if you'll just tackle that darkness. Fleury-François Richard - Valentine of Milan Mourning her Husband, the Duke of Orléans 1801 {{PD}}

No need to hide or feel bad, Scorpio, if you’ll just tackle that darkness. Fleury-François Richard – Valentine of Milan Mourning her Husband, the Duke of Orléans 1801 {{PD}}

Normally there are no shadows bothering you, dear Scorpio–so why is there a darkness lurking near you now? There are issues, problems, disparities in your world that cannot be ignored any longer–and many of them contain the seed of some serious anger you are carrying right now. You may have felt ashamed of your potent feelings, hiding them and so avoiding dealing with their cause, but no more–you’ll discover that rather than feeling shame at your reactions, it’s time for you to speak out, to insist on the place, and the respect, that you’ve already earned. Not calling for this is the source of every difficulty you’ll meet this coming year, through to your next birthday, so the sooner you recognize the legitimacy of your claim, the sooner you can clear the air and take your rightful place. Happy Birthday, Scorpio, and good luck!

If you were born on the 21st but your Sun is in Sagittarius, please see the forecast for the 22nd. Thanks! And subscribe, while you’re at it!

Joining the group can be fun, Scorpio. Boki and Hekili (Kahekili Keeaumoku II) with two unidentified chiefs on the sloop Kamchatka 1818 by Mikhail Tikhanov.

You’ve got some big decisions to make this coming Solar year, through to your next birthday, dear Scorpio, decisions about being Yourself, about going your own way or reconciling yourself to a place in the group, about originality, about Self-respect, about matters you’ve been ignoring, about personal rage at the way you’ve been treated, about what you can do to break away from what ails you, and about how you can gain a complete sense of freedom that allows uncensored expression. That’s a lot to handle, but here are some pointers: don’t confuse just doing whatever you want whenever you want with freedom–they’re not the same; the key to gaining respect from others is to have respect for yourself–and don’t confuse this with reverence for yourself, a humorless stance that takes the Self very seriously; remember that the past is past; recall that you don’t lose who you are by cooperating or being part of the group; and know that things always go better when you face them directly, rather than putting them off and waiting for them to sneak up and catch you at a disadvantage. If you refuse to be wobbly and instead really apply yourself this year, Scorpio, you can make some amazing progress, and learn not just about who you really are, but successfully show others who you are, too. Happy Birthday, Scorpio, and good luck!

Charles West Cope ‘A Night Alarm: The Advance!’ 1871

You’re entering what in some ways may be a deceptively quiet period, dear Scorpio; deceptive because once you emerge from the cottony-dark meditative quiet you’ll be forced to deal with all those issues you’ve been turning away from, just hoping they’ll disappear. Nobody blames you for not tackling them–and knowing they’re ahead needn’t disturb the contemplative state you can enter and enjoy for about 3/4 of the coming Solar year, through to your next birthday. This can be a highly productive time, as your internal world finds its spiritual center and organizes around it–or it could be a period when you wander, lost, hoping for rescue or an obvious signpost directing you . . . where? That’s really the crux of this: that you need to take this time to look inward, come to know yourself in the present, and then choose the course you want to follow when you re-enter (in a sense) the world, because when you do, some serious matters of relationship, rage, and Self-respect will surface–and you need to be ready. Happy Birthday, Scorpio, and good luck!

Life’s been tough for you lately, Scorpio, but you can put down that sledgehammer now. Utagawa Kunisada ‘Father and Son Members of the Forty-Seven Rônin’ c1850 {{PD}}

Does it feel like someone finally took those lead weights off your ankles, dear Scorpio, or is it more like you’re climbing out of a box? Or maybe it’s like you’ve been kidnapped, made to wear a hood and break rocks with a sledgehammer, and now at last you’ve been released, and are just getting your first glimpse around and breathe of fresh air. No matter what, the pressure, one way or another, is easing, restriction is lifting, and the need for serious, nose-to-the-grindstone effort is morphing into a kind of unexpected strength and bravery to both stand up for yourself and to investigate and handle those things that, up ’til now, were too much for you to deal with. You’re off in a new direction, Scorpio, and many of the things that were holding you back have fallen away–now’s your chance–don’t be afraid to shape your life the way you want it to be. Happy Birthday, and good luck!

A yoke is really a tool that allows you to get twice as much done. Pisanello {{PD}}

A yoke is really a tool that allows you to get twice as much done. Pisanello {{PD}}

Is that the proverbial yoke of oppression you’re wearing, dear Scorpio, or are you just super-disciplined and super-goal-focused right now, with no time to look up from your Herculean labors to flirt or play or even enjoy what you’ve built? You may see-saw between these two viewpoints all through the coming Solar year, through to your next birthday, and one thing’s sure: that won’t be fun. It will be up to you to consciously step back and inject a little spontaneity into things, no matter how unnatural that may feel to you at the time; maintaining a sense of freedom, no matter how big a burden you’re carrying, and no matter how willingly you’ve taken this burden on, is vital to your mental and emotional health, and to your ability to accomplish, as you won’t get anywhere if you believe you’re being buried alive. So, keep your focus on your choices and your ability to have an impact; those will keep you aware of your true freedom, and so keep you sane. Happy Birthday, Scorpio, and good luck!

The Sabian Symbol + the Daily Word Image for the New Moon 22 November 2014

22 NovemberNew Moon occurs at 4:32 AM Pacific Standard Time at 00 Sagittarius 07: ‘Everything Old is New Again’

The Sabian is, ‘Retired Army Veterans Gather To Reawaken Old Memories’. That, my friends, is a ReUnion. The implication is that we will see something resurrected, back together again, in imitation of a previous state or condition with the purpose of Re-Membering. This echoes the Saturn in Scorpio ‘setting’ for the New Moon, wherein reality contains layers of memory, mystery, nuance, truth, and many versions of ‘what is’ as seen through varied viewpoints and times—and the NM resurrects something specific to the re-uniting of those who experienced a past condition together. It’s perhaps past contacts brought together to celebrate that past, to re-live it, in a way—or to resurrect from memory something buried, forgotten, or ignored—which brings us back to Black Moon Lilith. ‘Everything old is New Again’ is an old saying (and song!) that may be what we’re humming come New Moon time.

Today’s image is the Egyptian god Osiris, a Scorpionic figure (a god of resurrection and the Underworld) reassembled by his sister/ wife Isis after his jealous brother (Set, for those keeping score) tore him to pieces. Isis put the pieces back together and wrapped them for burial; the one missing piece (the phallus) she fashioned herself so that he would be whole. She was then impregnated by the already-dead Osiris, with the result being she gave birth to their child, Horus. This image fits quite nicely with both the Sabian of the NM (a Reunion) and with NM’s contact to Saturn, still in Scorpio. The implication for we mortals may be that there’s still some seminal, creative ‘juice’ to be extracted from a real-life situation that by all rights should be (or at least appears to be) dead and lifeless. The New Moon may make it clear what this component, if handled correctly, can be used to create; all we have to do is ‘put the pieces together’.

The above is from the current ECLIPSE subscription package. ECLIPSE will be ending in its present form on 1 July 2015. Subscribers, I’ll send you all the details shortly for those who’d like to extend their subscriptions through to the end. Anyone interested in a new subscription: sign up now and receive the entire time through the end date for the new subscription price–that’s 7 months +–I won’t be accepting any new subscribers or re-ups from lapsed subscriptions after 1 January 2015. Luis Meléndez - 'Still Life with Oranges, Jars, and Boxes of Sweets' c1750 {{PD}}

Maybe your box will contain sweets, too, Scorpio. Luis Meléndez – ‘Still Life with Oranges, Jars, and Boxes of Sweets’ c1750 {{PD}}

Are you feeling a bit of a squeeze starting, dear Scorpio? It’s like the figurative walls are closing in, and will eventually form a box much too small and uncomfortable for occupying. What to do? Even if you aren’t yet aware of these restrictive circumstances, they are coming, and there are a couple of tips I can offer that will help you handle this (in fact, help you make the most of this): willingness to embrace restrictions, rules, and barriers and build them in to your efforts will be key; appeal to the generosity of the social circle when you need help–they in fact will be much more supportive than you might think, and, if you play your cards right, could offer a steady source of clients, customers, audiences, company, or just plain guardian angels; and you must be willing to both stand up for yourself (don’t expect that social support–go at things as if it all relies on you), and be open to facing those issues you may have put off, ignored, or been in denial about–these will bring unexpected benefits in the handling. It won’t be an easy year, Scorpio, but it could be an amazing one. Happy Birthday, and good luck!

Yes Scorpio, you WILL see the forest, in spite of the trees. Klimt ‘Beech Grove I’ {{PD}}

For you, dear Scorpio, the coming Solar year, through to your next birthday, may bring a time of discovery, specifically of those things that have been in your psychic ‘blind spot’ for a long time now. You’ll be given the instinctual guidance needed to puzzle these influences out and to see clearly how they’ve affected the reality picture you currently occupy–and you’ll see how it’s imperative you make any changes you want to make soon, before the coming lock-down. Yes, you’re approaching a period when you may not have the freedom to maneuver that you enjoy now; you could enter a time of serious commitment, a time when you’ll see a lot of what you’ve created (whether you are aware of these things consciously or not) materialize. It could be a revelation, finding out where your energy has really been going–but isn’t that the fun of life? Happy Birthday, Scorpio, and good luck!

A Little More on Sun-Saturn

If you’re having monumental energy lows right now, that could be Sun-Saturn; though that’s usually reserved for Saturn’s transits to your natal Sun, the two planets meeting, even when not directly connected to your chart, can suppress energy and identity to the extreme, especially if your Sun or Saturn is currently (by receiving transits, Solar Arcs, or Secondary Progressions) or natally prominent in your chart. I found myself wanting to do nothing but sleep–and then I realized it might be the effect of the transit–I was literally suppressing myself with what felt like fatigue. What’s the antidote? Doing (Saturn) what expresses the Self/ Soul intent (Sun). And in this kind of doing, we must ask some questions.

A Saturn event can be like a locked door for which we’ve lost the key; we see the barrier, and we believe we know how to get through–but we don’t consider that there may be more ways to handle this barrier than initially occur to us. We may search for the key, desperate and helpless-feeling, and should we choose an alternative approach, the very nature of Saturn pushes us toward using force: we try to knock the door down, to splinter it off the hinges, just to get through. Perhaps we’d do better at these times to ask why the door is there in the first place. We should determine if our goal is really worth pursuing, at least in the form we see it in now. We might consider less Saturnian ways to achieve it: exiting through another figurative door, or using a window! Or taking some other metaphorical opening that gets us to the other side of something. And we might just consider that this is an expression of the wisdom of the Universe: not now, not yet, maybe later, maybe never, do something else. That last consideration is where I always end up–trusting that what’s put before me has meaning, whether I understand it or not.

Sun Conjunct Saturn: It’s an Old Story

Saturn asks us to do--and that takes form, shape, discipline. Adolph Menzel - 'Atelierwand' (Atelier Wall--wall in the Artist's studio) 1851 {{PD}}

Saturn asks us to do–and that takes form, shape, discipline. Adolph Menzel – ‘Atelierwand’ (Atelier Wall–wall in the Artist’s studio) 1851 {{PD}}

It’s the same old story: the Sun and Saturn meet, this time in Scorpio and opposed Earth-Sedna, and the hand-wringing begins–and who can blame us? Most people have a special kind of anxiety surrounding Saturn; they see him as the zodiacal meanie, a paternal figure who never got beyond finger-shaking admonitions and curfew impositions and grounding those who didn’t follow ‘the rules’. The thing is, though, that the more we resist Saturn, the more we refuse to exercise personal Self-discipline, the more that disowned energy pattern shows up externally, in the circumstances of our lives. We tend to pick and choose our disciplines, and we tend to think one form of discipline ‘makes up’ for other, looser areas of conduct. The highly-trained yoga instructor who doesn’t bother to pay her bills on time, the accountant who tracks every penny and always pays on time who throws down his trash wherever he happens to be, the Artist who executes highly disciplined work but who hasn’t seen a doctor or dentist in years–all are choosing a single area in which to show restraint (and you’ll notice, it’s an area in life they believe is important, and see as a statement of the spiritual and of identity) and treating with disdain other areas of life–and in their choices they may show disrespect for others, for themselves, or for both. They are acting out their beliefs, and are engaged in a very Saturnian thing: judging some areas as important, others as not–and then they are surprised when the Universe comes along and says, “Oh, look over here–you don’t have your shit together, and now it’s going to hurt/ cost you/ keep you from moving forward.’

Some people like to say: Saturn’s stopping me from the outside; there’s nothing I can do. Au contraire–the externals are merely reflecting, usually in highly concrete ‘language’, what it is you are denying within. Yes, to lack discipline is a form of denial; it’s a statement that tells the Cosmos you refuse to contain, form, shape, or organize a particular portion of your life. But what about those who are doing their best, who are not (as far as they are aware) ignoring any pocket of their life? When they suffer, we have another possibility: if they are not being honest with themselves, if they have arranged their energy usage in a manner that’s artificial in relation to their Beingness, they may find Saturn coming at them from all directions–and quite often, it is because their real-life behaviors don’t match their life philosophy, stated behaviors, and/ or their beliefs about themselves. The dissonance creates a negative vibrational space into which Saturn stuffs the ‘material’ of the deficit, the lack in your life; it’s as if Saturn fills it in, and keeps what’s missing out. If you are suffering a lack, the obvious (but often totally effective) thing to do is to take a thorough look at your own attitudes and behaviors surrounding the subject of that lack. If you long for freedom but train elephants for the circus, no matter how well you treat them, there comes a point when you need to acknowledge that these animals are not meant to be subjugated–they need freedom, too. If you long to be loved for who you are but are a coy game-player with others, how long before you see that, if they can’t see you as you are, they can’t love you? If you find you never have enough money, in what way are you stingy with others? And all these involve a spiritual component, a kind of Saturnian judgment that, when exercised out-of-balance by the individual, results in restriction.

Saturn is your friend. For these two days, it shines a bright light on what is, on your reality, and it shows you, through the material world, what needs to change within. That’s not harsh, that’s not mean, that’s life–and anyone determined to turn away from it is probably having a Saturnian crisis of their own.
