The mini-lessons are a chance for us to look closely at different facets of our own chart. ‘Spring’ Teodor Axentowicz 1900 {{PD-Art}}

This is from, ‘The Nodes: Where Are You Going, What Do You Know?’, the interactive lesson being sent to ECLIPSE subscribers later tonight:

“In my view the South Node should really be seen as a personal repository, a place where the horoscope reveals that we carry a very special mix of talents, knowledge, and experience that is available to us now; in fact, with it naturally opposed the North Node/ direction we’re headed, the implication is that this cache supports and feeds into our future development–and we would be wise, rather than shunning South Node matters, to mine them for what they can offer. The South Node is almost like a sign posted within the horoscope: this is where I’m adept, this is what I know, this is what I understand, exceptionally well.”

Mercury Retrograde 21 October 2013: Feeling, Not Thinking

Mercury Retrograded at 18 Scorpio 23 today–Nothing is in close contact for this event (though Vesta is technically sextile from Virgo, the aspect did not perfect before Merc’s retrograde, essentially ‘robbing’ the contact of real meaning). A Merc retrograde in Water typically calls us to examine the emotions, and all communications, occurrences, and perceptions related to these. We ask ourselves, How do I feel? and we will spend some time determining the ‘fit’ of those feelings to our lives. We do see Jupiter trine Merc’s turnaround (wide, by my fussy event standards), probably exaggerating the emotional effects, and possibly linking them to the social. Mercury retrograde in Scorpio could plunge us into dicey emotional territory; the emotions are intense, deep, probably at least partially hidden even from us, and may be propelled by undercurrents of feeling of which we’re unaware, and we may confuse these with thought; we’re ‘feeling, not thinking’, though we may believe just the opposite. This retrograde will be a time of emotional discovery, and should be approached with that in mind.

The first eclipse of the set is Lunar (a Full Moon) and falls at 25 Aries 45, arriving at 4:38 PM PDT (and for those of you who are tickled by synchronicities, I called the chart program up at precisely 4:38 PM, so that when I went to the correct day, there was the eclipse, already perfected!) We use, of course, our very strict orbs (that always somehow seem to get stretched!) so that the only aspect made is a quincunx to Ceres.

The singular event for this Lunar eclipse centers on a Full Aries Moon that is in uncomfortable aspect to the asteroid named for the goddess in control of the seasons, of nature itself, and with a powerful sense of territoriality and the strength to negotiate with even the most formidable opponents (in Ceres’ case, that was Pluto).

An Aries Full Moon marks the culmination of personal, individual effort, making a statement of the ‘I Am’ in no uncertain terms; we expect this statement in the natal House where the FM falls, and it’s purpose is Self-assessment, through a lens of completion: ‘I know I am ‘x’, because I have done ‘y”.

The Ceres quincunx suggests that the eclipse event of ‘I Am’ must take into account some power player, perhaps a woman of influence or authority, perhaps simply a human-shaped force of nature, or possibly an entity that feels they have say over our world, to the point of dictating our circumstances or negotiating our permissions, or another with whom we must ourselves negotiate in determining territory and reach. It may be someone from whom we have sought ‘permission’ of one kind or another at some point, who still believes your Self-statement is subject to their approval. It’s one of Ceres’ less endearing traits that someone strongly identified with this role may not clearly see her own legitimate boundaries–and this is something those involved with the lady (no matter what form she comes in) nearly always must negotiate for themselves–in this way contact with Ceres may challenge us to establish our boundaries to others, to announce our territory, or to say what or who we have dominion over–certainly an ‘I Am’ statement of the first order.

Just a thought, morning of the 17th: Should we expect Mother Nature to act up? Maybe–with Ceres in Virgo, earthquakes may be the thing, but does fiery Aries promise lava? We’ll see! Sounds like a ‘scorched earth’ policy, in some important sense.

‘The Soul of the Rose’ Waterhouse 1908 {{PD-Art}}

We begin the 10th with a Sagittarius Moon, and a Void that begins at 3:12 AM PDT and ends at 8:18 AM PDT with the Moon’s entry into Capricorn. 1 PM PDT the Moon sextiles Neptune and semi-sextiles Venus. This may help soften what can be a harsh take-down of a dream, a fantasy, or even a relationship, as the emotional sensitivities are rallied in support of that dream or ideal. We may have been disabused of something unreal at its core, but this contact allows us to intuit or to feel the reason it was necessary to see the truth of things. Just after 3 PM PDT the Moon hits the midpoint of Venus-Juno; again, a situation that starts out as female rivalries or that confronts status issues or the costs and benefits of empowerment options can be smoothed over with a little intuitive understanding. 11 PM PDT the Moon conjuncts Pluto and sextiles Chiron. It’s the urge to purge in an attempt to heal ourselves or others–but think carefully before indulging; as much harm as good can come from ‘getting it all off our chest’. Emotional changes instituted internally can heal long-standing issues–it’s interactions where we must be sensitive.

Today’s image is an old, floppy stuffed animal, sitting in a neglected golf club bag, in a dark, dusty corner of a closet. We all have things around the house that have fallen into disuse, sometimes because their time with us is past, sometimes because we have changed how we spend our time–yet we keep these things, not really thinking about them, not really noticing they’re there. It’s time to let go of some things we claim we’ll get back to ‘one of these days’; it’s also time to recognize that some things are better given to others, for whom they’ll be meaningful and bring joy. What we rid ourselves of today may be figurative or material, but ideally it will be both: this is our opportunity to let go of old things, and old patterns, not for the purpose of filling these spaces with new stuff, but to provide space to move, to breathe, to live, to remove the clutter that keeps us from fully being who we are now.

‘The Magic Circle’ JW Waterhouse 1886 {{PD-Art}}

From ECLIPSE:

9 October and we’re back to that almost magical atmosphere, where our ambitions and wants are guided by wisdom (and so likely attainable) and the social sphere, knowledge, or our philosophy support our power expression and exertion of authority–and so bring us what we desire. Power players and/ or authorities help out. Plan things for today that you might’ve been tempted to see as impossible–and then watch them happen (as long, that is, as you employ the right skills for the right job–if we don’t have them, the thing is to employ what we do have skills for, as this is what will be both ‘magical’ and available at this time). (Pallas sextile Zeus, Jupiter sextile Ceres)

‘The Cafe Singer’ Edgar Degas 1878 {{PD-Art}}

8 October wow, we open our mouths and who the heck knows what’s going to come out!? Whatever it is that we hear or communicate, we all take as set in stone–an unfortunate result, since so much shared today will come as a complete surprise to everyone! Keeping options open means keeping mouths (and keyboard keys, and text messaging, and phones) silent, but this isn’t necessary, as long as you are prepared to follow through on what goes down today, because you will certainly be held accountable and expected to stick by your words. The thing is, everyone’s ambitions are on display today for the world to see, so those who are honest with themselves and others will have a much easier time than those who suffer because they hoped to keep their true aims or desires a secret. (Mercury conjunct Saturn, quincunx Uranus, Sun conjunct Zeus)

7 October we may be our own worst enemy today; even our own ego urges are too demanding, pushing us to rebel and throw caution to the winds. We may be inconsolably restless, believing that the thing we long for is just over the next horizon, and it’s all too easy to speak thoughtlessly and cause harm. Rein yourself in, even a teensy bit, and you can be the author of some healing thoughts, words, and plans, spreading the light of wisdom applied, and helping to soothe those too distressed to get out of their own way. (Mars sesquiquadrate Uranus, Venus enters Sagittarius and semi-squares Zeus, Mercury trine Chiron)

Apparently this is what those in 1899 France anticipated for the 21st century--sweet! 'Whale Bus' {{PD}}

Apparently this is what those in 1899 France anticipated for the 21st century–sweet! ‘Whale Bus’ {{PD}}

The New Moon occurs on the 4th at 5:34 PM PDT at 11 Libra 56. The first thing that catches my attention is a configuration: a Fist that has a midline opposition that bisects the figure and creates a small ‘hat’ or kite on top using semi-squares. Some may not find this a true config, since the bisection is made by the Nodal axis and the square involves two points, the Vertex (the point at which the ecliptic intersects the prime vertical–this runs through the nadir and zenith perpendicular to the horizon–if you can’t easily picture it, don’t worry–what you need to know is that Vertex literally means ‘turning point’, hence its association with fated events and life-changing meetings) and the Midheaven, which in this case describes the most public part of the chart, the New Moon energy most likely to be perceived; this falls in Sagittarius, suggesting a sharing of information or knowledge, expansion efforts, belief, or ‘getting the word out’. The apex is the South Node–what’s past, what’s been accumulated (with placement in Taurus implying this may have to do with resources), comfort. security, stability. It suggests that the inception of the New Moon may include a very public, ‘fated’, fait accompli, either its beginning, or its public reveal. The ‘topper’ places Mercury just slightly more than 1 degree from conjunction with the North Node–and ‘shoots’ this energy through the apex of the Fist, otherwise known as the South Node. Talk about a Pre-Echo! This could be a ‘message from the future’ as it was laid out, or destined through choice and circumstance, in the past, and though the message would probably have an individual cast (determined by where in the natal chart the South Node at 7 Taurus 50 falls) there would also be a shared element, likely affecting the material well-being or security of us all.
