It may not be as easy, figuratively speaking, to get where we want to go this weekend. ‘Charles the IV enters Saint-Denis’ The Grand Chronicles of France, illustrated by Jean Fouquet c1457 {{PD-Art}}

When I just look at the current transit chart and move it through the weekend, two things stand out: the way the Sun and Mars move closer to opposition with Earth (always opposed the Sun!) and Saturn; and the way it starts today with Jupiter quincunx the North Node (a measured point, not a body, of course) and then by Sunday Pacific time Venus sort of inches into the picture by conjunction with the South Node. These are just impressions, aside from the ideas we get from a complete accounting of current in-orb transits and perfections to aspects that occur this weekend; think of it as an intuitive reading of what might predominate over the next three days, to be added to the aspect and Lunar inventory included in ECLIPSE.

So what do I see? Problems with energy utilization, a stop-and-go of clear, productive, and Soul-expressive urges that is somehow stymied, like traffic flow stopped by an accident that happens round the corner: your car isn’t moving, but you don’t know why–you have fuel, the car runs, but the way is blocked. And with Saturn in Scorpio and the aspect an opposition, we shouldn’t be surprised that the reasons for suppression or repression won’t be clear. I’m not sure there’s any way to combat this, other than to accept that you might not make as much or the kind of progress you would like to. It might be tempting to blame things on the social sphere, our education (or some missing component of it), on religious intolerance, on publishing or broadcasting snafus, on foreign entities, or on travel issues, personal or otherwise (all Jupiter, and to include the matters of the House Jupiter rules in your natal chart). By Sunday, though, we may get a little more perspective, and so be a little less judgy of ourselves and others, as things are presented through the eyes of those we love, through financial matters, through seeing our values in action, and particularly by recalling what was precious to us in the past (Venus-SN). The potential for an internal reconciliation is possible as the weekend goes on and Venus semi-sextiles Jupiter, possibly offering us a way to expand on those things we love or desire, as long as we are willing to modify gently (the quincunx) our thoughts and communications (Jupiter in Gemini) so that they respect both ‘what was’ and our relationships and values (Venus-SN).

Have a great weekend! For more, see ECLIPSE!

I’m going to get right down to it, this time: the essence of the eclipse (12:57 PM PDT at 5 Scorpio 45) is that something surrounding this event will show us that what we once thought impossible is very, very possible. That can take many different forms, and is at the heart of today’s developments. The opening up of possibilities sets the stage for the next two events, a Solar eclipse on 10 May and another Lunar one on 25 May. More detail and Sabian analyses are available in ECLIPSE–but why clutter things up unless you want it?

Order today and receive all 3 issues with material on this eclipse set, plus a new issue this evening, Pacific time! Have a great one–and take the revelation you receive today seriously–if we don’t consciously choose, potentials have a way of becoming reality, whether we want them to or not.

Just a Little AstroEssence 24 April 2013: ‘Illusion’

Illusions might take on a life of their own today! ‘The Absinthe Drinker’ by Victor Oliva 1901 {{PD-Art}}

24 April  zings us: Pallas squares Juno, so that wisdom questions empowerment and vice versa–it doesn’t seem we can do the smart thing and still feel we are in charge of our domain, and as well, being smart brings status with the social group and the mate into question; Vesta enters Cancer, focusing the highest values through the most caring, nurturing, and emotionally intrusive lens, and encourages cloying circumstances in the home and with the mate; Venus trines Pluto and squares Juno–oh where to begin?! If we can lift goals for change out of realms where they are relative to status, the social sphere, the mate, or our own need to feel powerful, then we can change our world in terms of Love or Money–if not, we may all too easily put ourselves in an awkward position as riding the carousel we lean toward the brass ring while clinging to our steed–and miss; Mercury quincunxes the North Node, making communications touchy to the point that we could inadvertently affect our Path by something we say or convey; and Earth trines Neptune, suggesting that the material presents us with the potential for great creativity and inspires, even as we may be totally mislead by what we see. It’s a World of Illusion, for real!

And on an important Lunar note, this also from ECLIPSE: Void begins at 5:46 PM PDT, as Vesta moves into Cancer and away from an approaching trine from the Moon; the Moon enters Scorpio at 3:26 AM PDT of the 25th.

This is from the current ECLIPSE, available here. Order now and get all three issues that feature the upcoming eclipses, including the Lunar one tomorrow!

Each of us will hold the key to something special today; for some this will presage the upcoming Lunar eclipse. Detail of ‘Death and the Gravedigger’ by Carlos Schwabe c1890s {{PD-Art}}

This is from the current issue of ECLIPSE; order now to get all three issues that include analysis on the upcoming eclipses, and to receive a new issue each week!

23 April may be a paradigm-shifter, or, at the very least, we will seriously consider altering what it is we want, what we hope to attain. Pluto proceeds in retrograde to trine Pallas, bringing massive power and immense wisdom into alignment, underground; change can happen, much of it ‘out of sight’, guided by what’s wise, and communications will be infused with our truest beliefs. Philosophies may be shared, and transformation visits practical skills; what doesn’t fare well at this time is the personal agenda, the desires and ambitions for the individual. Instead we have a rare day when major change, physical and mental, may occur, with the unusual condition of the perfect ability to transform combining with the perfect realization of wisdom–a unique set of elements that should result in a highly unique outcome–just don’t push too hard for these energies to fit your specific plans–they may end up drawing new ones for you. (Pluto trine Pallas, Mercury sextile Jupiter, opposed hZeus)

Will this presage the first eclipse, which promises to show us how something, some goal or dream or ideal we thought was impossible is, somehow, now within our reach? It may, or it could be its own thing, more focused on the noble aim or betterment for the social sphere than on the individual want, though the eclipse could encompass either–today the emphasis is on the bigger picture, and on our role in making the world, even just a little, a better place. To know if the upcoming Lunar eclipse will be personal or Universal for you, check where it will fall in your natal chart: 1st through 5th House, it’ll be first person all the way, 7th through 11th, your focus will be on the wider world and those in it, 6th or 12th could go either way.

Here, let this tranquil picture of a woman and her owl soothe you. by Valentine Cameron Prinsep {{PD-Art}}

Here, let this tranquil picture of a woman and her owl soothe you. by Valentine Cameron Prinsep {{PD-Art}}

I think we need to disentangle ourselves from the tense vortex of external events and internal tensions in which we all seem to be spinning. Easier to say than do, at this point, with Mars and the Sun conjoined in the 29th degree of Aries–either alone in an anaretic degree would be stressful, but together they become an intense martial weapon sent out into the cosmos, as if the combination elevates the Martian ‘attack/ weapon’ energy to nuclear intensity by adding the reactor that is the Sun. We all feel it; maybe we can use it (or at least express some of the energy safely) if we can re-direct it, as the eclipse/ Full Moon slated for the 25th will need our attention (it promises to show us that a dream, goal, or aim we thought was impossible isn’t–for more, see ECLIPSE).

The Sun’s current House position in your chart may suggest a good outlet for what amounts to a nuclear bomb’s worth of power. Pinpoint goals related to this area and release the beast–and watch it all get done. This may (if the Sun doesn’t change Houses for you before the eclipse) be the beginning stage of the revelation that’s to come with the Full Moon; by the day of the eclipse Pallas and Venus will be conjunct in Taurus, far enough from the eclipse that they don’t figure in to its meaning, but still exerting their own influence, by uniting values and wisdom, showing the worth of following that inner source of guidance, and by temporarily using both relationships and finances as a vehicle for useful, smart information.

Subscribers: my apologies for a mistake in the 5-11 April issue that contains the Lunar eclipse assessment for this coming Full Moon. I wrote at one point that Mars is in Aries and so more intense for the effect; this is incorrect, it will be in Taurus, and is so noted as there in the rest of the eclipse discussion. I probably had way too many charts up at one time, and looked at the wrong one! The Warrior being in Taurus only reinforces a sense of more material-oriented action, toning down the Will and bringing more emphasis to the physical and to resources.

To those who are thinking of subscribing: order now and receive all three issues that contain the complete assessment of the upcoming 3-part eclipse series! For a traditional viewpoint, please see this by the excellent Peter Stockinger.

Another day, another time. 'Rainy Day, Boston' Childe Hassam 1885 {{PD-Art}}

Another day, another time. ‘Rainy Day, Boston’ Childe Hassam 1885 {{PD-Art}}

The bombings in Boston yesterday are, like all such events, horrific, and asto enthusiasts may note this occurred with the Sun-Mars conjunction in Aries–a fiery and martial placement and combination–and with these two sextile Vesta, and widely conjunct a distressed Venus at 29 Aries. This points to values as the motivating force, and, considering the kinds of injuries involved (shrapnel and limb, especially lower limb) and the choice of place and time (Patriot’s Day, a world-renowned marathon) my thought was that this was sparked by rage at such injuries, which are distinctly the kinds created by war, and especially by IEDs (Improvised Explosive Device). I believe the perpetrator (and I think there’s only one) has either suffered this kind of loss him- or herself, or that this has happened to a loved one, and shattered their respective worlds. No matter what their pain, it is no excuse for inflicting the same on others. I send my thoughts and prayers to those who were injured and traumatized, and my gratitude to those who ran toward the blasts, to help–and I’m sure most, likely even all, my readers do, too.

The bombing can be seen in the light of the Pluto retrograde, as part of the need to express that often surrounds a change in direction point. I had planned to talk a little about venting those smaller matters that we bury until such an astrological event cracks open the cellar door, as described in the previous post by the retro’s sextile to Chiron, signifying mild hurts; but of course this applies to deeply seated rage, to passion and obsession, as well, if that is what has been suppressed or ignored. I think we’ll find our personal subjects for the retro period in the House(s) in the natal chart ruled by Scorpio; at least, that’s where I’m finding mine! What House is Scorpio on for you, and what experiences have you correlated with the Pluto retro over the past few days–and are these the same areas, or do they differ?

How’s the lord of the Underworld treating you? Now that he’s left stationary status and begun the slow backward (from our viewpoint) trek, we may get a glimpse at what’s slated to be plowed under and, inevitably, re-planted. For something that moves this slowly, we typically will only feel the shift in direction acutely if it occurs in close hard aspect to a responsive natal placement or, possibly, when it occurs in close aspect to other transiting bodies that are in play through our charts and our life scenarios. Otherwise the change in direction may only be felt as a background buzz, a difference in tone hard to pinpoint until the body picks up speed (seems like a funny thing to say about a slug like Pluto!) But there it is: despite the potential for sizable, permanent change we are still likely at this point to be unaware of it–but there are things we can do to draw out the Plutonian, and deal with it.

This time around Pluto retrograded 26 minutes from sextile with Chiron; everything else is over 2 degrees, and so excluded. This suggests to me that those mild wounds, those irritations it’s so easy to live with, may be the way to dig up the Plutonian energy and get it out into the light. Does disclosure need to be public, does the dark thing need a witness, in order to create alchemy? No, the only witness needed is our own consciousness, though I would say that if we examine something on our own, but continue to cover or deny it in the presence of others, it will behave as if unexamined; exposure is the stuff on which the retro Pluto thrives.

What things have been eating at you, especially things that concern structure, hierarchy, rules and regulations, the status quo, ‘What Is’, restrictions, boundaries, what’s established, what’s repressed (internal) or suppressed (by externals)? What Dad or the Boss is putting out can suggest just exactly what needs to be modified in our relationship; look too to the matters of the House through which Pluto now transits and the House Pluto rules natally (the one with Scorpio on the cusp)–these are also areas with big potential (or even requirements) that circumstances go from one state to another–and of course, there’s no stipulation that things will be ruined; they can just as easily be replaced or refurbished.

How much control do we have over the change that Pluto brings? Quite a bit, if we are willing to do the destroying, transforming, or re-birthing ourselves; this is, if we are willing to be proactive in recognizing what’s no longer of use or no longer viable in its current form, and then alter conditions or circumstances so that things are at least workable, and at best, exactly what we want. Bringing about this latter condition is often possible–passion is a facet of Pluto, and one that often drives his manifestation–but requires the nerve to stand up to what’s dark, hidden, destructive, or rage-tinged in ourselves or in others–and that isn’t always something we feel safe doing.

But that’s the thing: you can’t expect to feel safe dealing with Plutonian subjects. Just accept that you may be frightened, unnerved, enraged, or that something you thought you valued might be destroyed in your dance with the darkness. That’s sometimes the point of Plutonian conditions that arise outside our control: to obliterate what we didn’t have the guts to get rid of on our own, or what we let languish under non-crisis circumstances. We may mourn what leaves–that’s just the Plutonian thing to do–but this creates an opening into which we can pour whatever we want. The power Pluto hands us to create is real; we should take care not to allow our own fear to cause us to hand that power over to others, or to force it outside ourselves and call it ‘fate’.

A little something for 13 April, from ECLIPSE–to see it all, please subscribe:

Originality, innovative abilities, and our unique viewpoint provide us with ways to express ourselves and our ideas, and these expressions lead us in the direction of raising our status or our effectiveness in dealing with life matters. We will run up against some solid obstacles to advancement; the advantage today is that difficulties won’t morph and grow three heads before our eyes. Communications clear up (but not until late in the day, see below) and we say what we mean and mean what we say–keep in mind this is true for everyone else, as well. (Uranus sextile Juno, Saturn square Juno, Mercury enters Aries)

3 AM PDT the Taurus Moon sextiles Mercury. At this point communications are still tense, obfuscation may be rampant, and even our own thoughts are unclear–this is the apex point for misunderstandings–try to delay major interactions and messages until Merc enters Aries. Void begins at 5:31 AM Pacific time; the Moon enters Gemini at 7:13 AM PDT. 3 PM PDT the Moon squares Neptune, making for an emotionally jarring time, where we either find out the shortcomings of our creative endeavors or we ‘get the message’ concerning the real situation behind something we’d known only through our own assumptions and imaginings. This gives us the emotional fuel to correct anything that comes forward at this time. In the 7 PM hour Pacific time Merc enters Aries–thoughts and intentions become one-pointed, and in some, aggressive and/ or formidable.

And for the 14th:

The only new aspect formed is a semi-square of Venus to Jupiter–that couldn’t hurt much, right? Well, what’s your definition of ‘hurt’? If you mean there’s a cost to being part of the social sphere or to going after what you want in society, if you mean relationship details ought not go public in a passive-aggressive display of dominance, or if you believe earnings might not be commensurate with the impact of your knowledge or material shared with the community, then yes, there’ll be some hurtin’ today. Take it as a blessing, because you’re finding out the details of your actual relationship with the social sphere, and the better you understand how you fit in, the better you can plan how to make an even bigger, more meaningful, and much more rewarding, splash.

Lately the whole world seems to be wondering what Kim Jung-Un, leader of North Korea, is up to. In ECLIPSE I wrote of him: ” . . . there may be a need to be rebellious, but if one sees the past as having contained ‘the revolution’ what does one then revolt against, in order to continue to identify as a rebel? If one has an international stage upon which to act, then one with Mars in Libra, and Pluto and Saturn in Scorpio, all in the reputation 10th, may make shows of anger at ‘partners’, and threats of destruction and obliteration to show one’s authority, a mainstay of the agenda.” My conclusions were that Kim’s father set the behavioral expectations, and may have contaminated his son with the idea that only shows of force gain one the respect of others–but it also appears to me that Kim’s natural inclinations are to be co-operative, to commune and share knowledge. It may take a long time, but, if Kim can refrain from listening to any ‘old school’ advisers, he may eventually stop the threats and open up to new forms of exchange; in effect, he may ‘rebel’ against what he was taught. He is coming up on his Saturn Return (if the birth chart rectified by Paul Saunders at Solaris Astrology is correct, which I think it probably is), a time when he may be particularly determined to show how far he’s come, what his ‘accomplishments’ are–so it may feel to him especially important to let the world hear him roar, right now. At most I think NK may fire a missile into the ocean–I’d be very surprised if it went much farther than that.

Here’s an excerpt on the New Moon in Aries from the current ECLIPSE; to see more please subscribe!

10 April sees Ceres sesquiquadrate the North Node and Mercury square Vesta, as well as a New Moon in Aries. The ambiance pre-NM is what I would describe as ‘rebellious’: words are contrary to established values, the home, and the interests of the mate, and resistance to authority figures, Mom, and an inability to see the need to bargain or negotiate is rife. The ether, environment, and the psyche are all disturbed, broken open by the New Moon

The Aries New Moon arrives at 2:35 AM PDT April 10th at 20 Aries 40

The Moon is self-contained, reaching out not at all. Everything is held neatly in just over 3 degrees: the meeting of Sun and Moon, Mars, and Venus. It’s almost like a single beacon, the kind of gathering that would’ve drawn lots of attention in the ancient sky, as so many visible bodies converged. In Aries especially, this suggests individual action for gain or to facilitate relationship, in a very concentrated, mobilized way. It may be that this lights a fire under our sense of initiative, and as well fires up our sense of hope–for that’s what a concerted, focused call to action kindles within. If we respond, we do so out of the belief (even if we aren’t aware of it or don’t admit it) that something positive will come of our actions.
