What more can I say? I’ve already covered today in-depth in ECLIPSE–but I can state that you can expect the day to have the character of the entire month of May, magnified–so whatever you’ve been experiencing, anticipate more of that, with a big ol’ dollop of stress on top! Hints: look to transiting oppositions, look to anything in 29 degrees of a sign, and don’t forget the Moon in Leo–makes everything feel like it’s all about the Self.
I can add that the transiting Moon in Leo will conjunct Mars, exact in the 2 AM hour PDT of the 20th, and we may be strongly prompted to act out on all the tension, but I’d suggest holding back, or at least being very low-key about it, as the Moon moves on to conjunct Vesta, in orb by noon of the 20th Pacific time, and with this we’ll be faced by the realization (and hopefully not the recriminations) of our most sacred values.
Also of note, the Sun/ Earth axis enters the 29th degree of Taurus/ Scorpio at 7:38 PM PDT–again, exaggeration of energy and tension is to be expected; and a few surprises, as well, with Uranus and Venus at 29 also, though by the time the Sun enters 29 Venus will have moved on to 00 Cancer–suggesting that whatever immediate money, love, values, or relationship knocks/shocks/ or celebrations we encounter in this period will have already sprung themselves on us.

Though I already wrote about the general trend for today (please scroll down for the scoop) I wanted to mention a Grand Trine in effect for a few hours, in Water: Cancer Moon, Uranus/ Jupiter conjunction in Pisces, and Earth in Scorpio. Emotions (or the emotional subtext of any situation) may run extremely high through no later than 3 PM PDT. The suggestion is that we’ll need to balance our needs and those items we intuit (as intuition will be in overdrive, and perhaps too responsive to the atmosphere) with group and social standards, the need to break away from convention, accepted ‘Higher Thought,’ and the material reality of any situation–and if we’re not hyper-aware, we may let the emotions run away with the situation, at least for a few hours. A brief Void begins at 1:36 PM PDT.
Personally, I’m on my way to the dentist–for something I went in for last week, when he did everything but take care of my complaint. It’s a little like I took my car in for a steering problem, and they washed, waxed, and detailed it without fixing the original difficulty–and I feel myself ready to be upset over it! I chose only two days in May to emphasize specifically in the May forecast in ECLIPSE, and the 19th was one of them, with certain effects beginning today, the 17th. I found the 19th to be emblematic of the entire month, and a focal point for all that’s in play right now–and I don’t repeat myself (at least, not on purpose) so what you’ll see here on the blog are more general observations, primarily of the Moon conditions, which of course acts as the symbol giving us an emotional window into the Soul. Let’s start with the Cancer Moon’s trine to Pallas, around 2 AM PDT.
Harmonious contact between the Cancer Moon and Pallas suggests there is wisdom in our feelings, in empathy, and in nurturing; the emotions and intuition guide us well at this point. For those of us getting our shut-eye when this occurs, we should look to the emotional impact of our dreams–this will tell us a great deal about where we’re going right, and where wrong.
Around 7 AM PDT on the 17th the Moon comes within range of conjunction to the South Node and a square to Zeus. For those who want to free themselves from memory (and real-life) replays of power imbalances, ambitions denied or contested, or the emotional playback of their own course altered by the Will of another, this aspect will only make it worse. Re-living the conditions that made you miserable has a purpose, however, and that is to build your own Will and ambition to the point where you will take charge of your own destiny and express your own ambitions and wants. Those are big concepts that can only be reached by a willingness to be truly responsible at the everyday level for ourselves–and even the most accomplished (or Willful) among us may feel a twinge that pushes us in a better, more honest, and certainly less miserable, direction, because inevitably, everyone has an experience of our wants, and what seems to be our path, denied.
By about 10 PM the Moon sextiles Sedna, and we may feel emotionally bereft. After dealing with our ‘power unpleasantness flashback’ likely all afternoon, we may find ourselves not so much drained as empty of feeling–the distinction being that one brings with it a sense of weariness, while a feeling of emptiness is just that–no emotion to speak of. This is simply a safety mechanism to protect one from whatever harshness came forward as the Moon joined the ongoing Zeus/ Nodes T-square. Reliving our past upsets was bad enough, but now we feel we need a vacation from present stresses, as well–and this aspect gives it, if only for a few hours.
We hit the emotional trifecta around 9 AM on the 18th, and this lasts through the Moon’s entry into Leo at 2:06 PM PDT, as in some ways this is the perfect emotional build-up to the wallop of the 19th. The Moon sits at the midpoint of Venus/ Vesta, sextiles Saturn, makes a Grand Trine with Earth and Uranus/ Jupiter, sextiles the Sun, and quincunxes Neptune. We spend a large chunk of the day in emotional high-gear, as we are required, in a rather dramatic and serious way, to make choices based on our most important values, to accept change and growth according to what the group dictates, and to mold ideals and goals to the circumstances presented. Circumstances under these influences can ask us to be very different, and to change our aims, from the way we believe we should be, and this will be especially challenging for those not dealing with major Uranian upset at this time (those who are have a whole ‘nother thing going on–again, already covered in ECLIPSE). Dealing with this late May time period, as Uranus comes to the Aries point, will be different for each of us–but a challenge for all of us.

This weekend may at first feel like it’s full of things, people, and circumstances we must accomodate; and indeed, we will spend some time attending to adjustments that are needed. It may all feel like work, for some, though if you take the fine tuning required as a good thing it will fly by with minimum disruption to your goals or your spirit. It’s all in the name of moving toward a sense of empowerment and well-being, signaled by the upcoming conjunctions of this Gemini Moon to Juno (10 AM-ish PDT on the 15th) and Venus (about 1 AM PDT on the 16th)–but what happens in between now and then?
By the 11 AM hour PDT today, the 14th, the Moon quincunxes Ceres, and we must move over for those who feel they are authorities–for some this will instead show as a test of their own grasp of personal authority, as in ‘What will you claim, what will you own up to?’–but in any case negotiation, not just repartee, may be required before the issues are resolved. This is important to attend to, as the next aspect, a quincunx to Pluto by the Moon, arrives around 2 PM; those who successfully handled Ceres will reap the benefits and feel their own power to change both the Self and circumstances, while those who failed to wrestle out authority issues (maybe something as simple as who’s responsible for what, lost in the Gemini light chatter) will feel the sting of someone else’s power, or experience the change that another was able to institute. Paying attention and responding really pays off during this period.
By 11 PM-ish this evening the Moon quincunxes Pallas. This is a serious call to wisdom–don’t roll the dice tonight, and certainly don’t go for questionable situations or behavior–it won’t be worth it–and who wants to spend the rest of the weekend trying to recover one’s dignity? You get my drift.
3 AM or so the morning of the 15th sees the Moon quincunx the North Node–okay, if the last aspect didn’t get you to take the wise course, maybe this will, as occurences at this point may affect the destiny/ chosen path, as the Moon also trines Zeus, suggesting that dealing with the desires, Will, and ambitions of others comes to the forefront. I’m telling you, don’t screw around with this.
Restraint and common sense pay off for most at 10 AM or so PDT as the Moon conjuncts Juno, and we feel mentally flooded (this is an Air sign, after all) with a sense of empowerment. Deliciious. For those who insisted on bad choices and badder (yes, I know it’s not a word!) outcomes, this is the point where you experience the empowerment options of someone else–and it won’t be pretty.
The 2 PM hour PDT of the 15th brings the Moon sextile to Mars–ahh, at last we can do something about things. The go ahead is a mild one, though–be sure you think it through before you take action.
About 1 AM on the 16th the Gemini Moon conjuncts Venus and ohh, we get what we want–or at the very least, we have a genuine sense of well-being. We may actually see the dream or fantasy fulfilled, though, as the aspects that follow, especially the trine to Neptune, could make it all a reality. The only down side may be a tendency seen in those who are action-challenged to talk away (Gemini) the energy. Pretty words may be enjoyable, too (especially if you write them down, writers!) but you could miss the reality boat if you’re inclined to all talk.

New Moon for the month is at 6:04 PM PDT at 23 Taurus 09. Nothing falls in aspect within our usual 2 degree orb (in fact, nothing falls within 3 degrees, either!) So, derivation of meaning falls heavily on the Sabian Symbol for the meeting of Sun and Moon, and on a couple of configurations. The Sabian is, ‘An Indian Warrior Riding Fiercely, Human Scalps Hanging From His Belt’ http://www.cafeastrology.com/sabiansymbols_degreemeanings.html
Zow! What a symbol to kick off the Lunar month! It sounds enormously aggressive, until we inspect it a little more closely. This is, more than anything else, a picture story that must be interpreted within a cultural context, within the norm and standards for a lifestyle other than the one to which we’re attuned as members of Western society. Within a Native American framework of the past, this is a picture of a real go-getter, of the most virile member of the social order, acting his part in the group to the hilt. Again, within the cultural context, this is certainly a male, and so represents the animus, the part of the psyche that is the doer, that acts, that’s very Martian in nature; so what’s this symbol doing in Venus-ruled Taurus?
What he carries on his belt is key: human scalps, which within the culture were not so much proof of ferocity (though the taking of them was meant to convey complete seriousness to the takee! who, by the way, did not always die from this procedure); instead, they are status symbols, and as such align perfectly with the Taurean emphasis on the material world and one’s assets and talents. The scalps show one’s bravery, one’s formidable willingness to act, in no uncertain terms. They are irrefutable proof of our ability to ‘go out and get’-which is the mandate of this New Moon.
Taurus, above all, makes use of what it has; it’s not just about possession, but about exploitation, and this is the message of the New Moon, in my opinion: Go fiercely (with energy and exuberance) toward what you want to create, particularly in the way this will make use of talents and assets, and raise status. Be unashamed of your goals-do not feel pressured to search for and dress them up in altruistic motivations-all that we do, want, and be has an effect on the world around us. Wanting a million dollars so you can give generously to charity is no more noble than wanting a million dollars so that you can travel, buy an island, build a business, or throw a giant party, simply because in any case the money flows back out to others (even held in a bank it is being used)-and this means that no matter what, both your desires and the social order are being served (here we enter the consciousness of money, of choosing where to spend or give as an expression of our values-Taurus, again).
Now you may object that status is more a Capricorn thing, but no energy functions in a vacuum, and Taurus works in a world filled with what we have, and what others have, both tangible (possessions) and intangible (talents, skills, and love)-it’s human nature to compare and contrast, and to want-without desire we’d have no reason to do much of anything-so, when we see what we have, and see what others around us have, it’s quite natural to draw from this experience concepts of what we would like to have-and this New Moon is meant to bring realization of what those concepts are, and to put those concepts into action, to seed them quite aggressively (and don’t be hatin’ on the idea of aggression-it’s simply ‘forceful energy,’ and whether you know it or not, you use it all the time-otherwise there wouldn’t be an open pickle jar on earth!)
A Grand Square at the time of the meeting of Sun and Moon, consisting of Venus, Saturn, Ceres, and Uranus, suggests that the New Moon intention will be forged and tested in an atmosphere of status, rules, and how we can play them (Saturn), accepting of our own or others’ authority as the ultimate authority (Ceres-I didn’t say this would be a cake walk!) also rebellion, innovation, sudden ‘moves,’ and reaction of/ place within the group (Uranus), and all of it over reward, over what may be gained, over what we treasure or desire (Venus).
PS Did manage to ignore Sedna’s conjunction–seems appropriate!–but since it only makes the effects difficult to see, and I’ve talked about it so much lately, I don’t think there’s much more to add.

The sky is rife with quincunxes today, and getting the straight story on anything will definitely be close to impossible, chiefly because of that Sun/ Sedna meet-up in Taurus. Sedna throws a cloak of invisibility on Sol and we’re all just a little lost (it’s working here, as grayness lingers on a day when we were promised sun sun sun!)
So, those quincunxes: this aspect requires the two energies involved to be flexible in their expression, and in some way to learn something new by the encounter. It’s rarely compromise that solves the issue; instead, typically both energies must be respected and those needs met, while still finding a way for both to function simultaneously. Venus qnx Earth=relationships and/ or what we value must be adjusted to the material reality-stay conscious, as this adjustment may come about on its own if we don’t shape it, and who wants their relationships or assets messed with without their consent? Jupiter qnx Vesta=this has been in play for a short while, and on the larger scale suggests adjustments society makes to what’s truly sacred, while for the individual there may be a sliding scale of change required in who and what we dedicate ourselves to, as dictated by how much time and energy the social sphere drains from us (with social and survival demands, like working). Juno qnx the North Node, also trines Zeus=we must be flexible in our attempts to empower ourselves, with all tries made with an eye to life direction-taking care right now is important, as our ambitions and desires are strong and seeking an outlet.
Of course, we still have Saturn opposed Uranus, with Uranus at the stressful 29th degree. What more can be said about this? The only thing I’d add at this point is that with Uranian energies under pressure we may feel a lot of push to express ourselves, especially our most unique qualities; in fact, it may feel life and death may be at stake, as if it’s very important to put our talents on display. Take the urge and do something productive, that absolutely sings of you, but that’s non-intrusive–in our effort to relieve pressure we may throw all boundaries to the winds–and respecting boundaries is built-in to this aspect, so we need to keep them in mind.
At last! Merc goes direct, today at 3:26 PM PDT. The Trickster turns around within trine to Ceres and Pluto, and stays in aspect to them through roughly the 22nd. Whatever we’ve heard or thought, we’ll reconsider, especially what we’re thinking about secrets, items that could be destructive or life-changing, and what we’re thinking about authorities and our attitudes toward negotiation. Again, flexibility and taking our time is the way to meet Mercurial challenges in the near future, as we may alter our views more than once in the coming days.

The Moon in Aries urges us to seek on our own behalf, but what are we seeking? In general, we’re looking for expression of our own Will, and as the Moon moves forward and aspects different energies, we apply our Will to whatever’s put before us. The next aspect our Aries Moon makes is a quincunx to Pallas 11:30 AM-ish, followed by an opposition to Zeus, around 1:30 PM PDT. These suggest we may try to adjust our actions and ego expression to what we know to be wise, and for some this may involve offering guidance (just as Pallas Athena would do) that ends up bringing us into direct conflict with the desires and ambitions of another, possibly someone with whom we are (or think we are) partnering. This may be somewhat surprising or even shocking (Uranus @ 29 degrees) as our choices seem to us to be truly benign–but two factors may be at work: our own egos, pushing to feel relevant to others, and/ or the sense on the part of those affected that what we’re saying and doing actually threatens their own choices and life direction (Moon T-square with Nodes, 3 PM or thereabouts).
At the same time as the Nodal contact the Moon sextiles Juno, suggesting that each of us will feel some emotional propulsion to empowerment–meaning that it may feel both important and possible to push for the position that makes us feel secure–and anyone with placements @ 13 degrees of the Cardinals and/ or 13 degrees of the Mutables may be strongly affected, as if, momentarily, at least, existence itself sits in the balance–but we’ll only be successful if we’re willing to adjust our attitudes to what we know to be the smart course (Finger of God Juno/ Moon base apex Pallas).
We ruminate on this mini-power struggle/ escapade through to about 9 PM PDT when the transiting Aries Moon trines Mars. Now we may insist on acting, and unless we are very careful we could make a passionate stew out of all the energies. At this point the Moon will still be within range of a Grand Square involving the Nodes and the Moon/ Juno opposition, and this means that if we can balance the interests of others’ with our own we may make excellent, major leaps forward.
By 2:30 AM-ish PDT the Moon moves into range of sextile to Venus and quincunx to Earth. This brings emotional and intuitive attention to matters of the material, physical surroundings, and reward and earnings. Needed adjustments will be crystal clear–for my compadres who will with any luck be sound asleep at this point, careful perusal of dreams the morning after may reveal something very useful that hints at what must change. We need to take a lot of care at this point, as the Sun will be exact to Sedna tomorrow, and we are within a window of extreme difficulty pinpointing our own purpose, the point to all that we do. As I mentioned previously, don’t react too strongly to this influence, and don’t make decisions based on it, or presume that you’ll be served by deep introspection–all of this is best avoided right now.
Also of note: Ceres is within one degree of Pluto at present–power struggles, or negotiations, will just be part of the landscape long-term. It seems that there has been something sinister at work the last few days. Quite by chance, I ran into an acquaintance. When Mercury is NOT retrograde, I go out of my way to avoid this person. When Mercury is retrograde, I get sucked in. This person is emotionally abusive and something about Mercury retrograde makes me forget until I’ve been given a verbal beating. The day before, I came across a mama duck w/ newly hatched ducklings, about to cross a busy street. Believing I was being a good samaritan, I herded her to a different pond, where she was immediately attacked by a male duck of a different species. Upon researching online, I found that she HAS to go to the pond across the street to find her mate or she won’t be protected. Man, did I feel terrible.
Twice in a row, good intentions blown to pieces. Boom.

Hi April, Here’s the thing about Merc retro: logical thinking doesn’t work; putting together the pieces doesn’t work. ‘Sinister’ of course just means ‘of or to the left,’ and suggests that old saying, ‘The left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing,’ perfect for this period. ‘Good intentions’ are meaningless, while ‘true’ intentions come through. What it all works to do is expose reality in a way you can’t ignore. In the case of your acquaintance, only wanting to see yourself as ubercivilized and pretending interacting with mud won’t get you muddy is at work, while with the ducks it seems to signal a Ceres-like tendency toward inappropriate control, in this case you thinking you know better than Mother Nature. We’re given an instinctive warning system that should keep us away from the snake in the grass, or the poisonous berries, but we get all big-brained and opposable thumb-y and believe we can outwit everything–and Merc retro offers us a time to reconnect through the feelings and the senses–and if we don’t take it, we suffer the consequences.

Thus endeth the Merc retro lesson for today; my thanks to April. Mercury goes direct on the 11th at 3:26 PM PDT; you have that long to wallow in brain down time that will allow for a much less restricted flow of information and intuitive and feeling experience. What you bring to your ‘regular’ life after Merc direction from these periods can be very useful, so take advantage of the extraordinary access to what some might call our animal brains, but that I call ‘fun’!
Moon in Pisces and she stays there until the 9th at 2:29 PM PDT. With Merc staying out of the way and our instinctive Selves in high gear, what magic isn’t possible, what escape won’t we try this weekend? Do it now, because the Moon enters Aries tomorrow afternoon Pacific and things become, well, focused, stern, and pretty frustrated, as Merc will still be retro and Mars has a hard time getting what he wants when he can’t think straight. Plus it will swiftly square Pluto, suggesting some taking your lumps, getting to the bottom of things energy around. Just have a one-pointed plan of attention for the early Aries Moon, something Arian and safe, like swordplay or wood-chopping or working at a forge, you smithy of the Soul, and you’ll make it through just fine (and fashion a great set of horseshoes to boot!)

Today seems to focus energy through a Finger of God with apex of a wide Juno/ Venus conjunction in Gemini, which goes a long way toward explaining why our minds are preoccupied with trying to make the most of things–and yet for most the thoughts are easily distracted from their targets, not surprising with Moon in early Pisces. With a Finger of God configuration, the apex energy is the final one to be expressed; the base energies must first successfully work together, and this takes some effort (the sextile). Here the base is the North Node and the Earth/ Pallas conjunction. I know, some of you don’t count the Nodes as points in configs–ok, so don’t, but I’m going to.
We need to pull together the intended life direction (NN) and make it work with the wisest material arrangement possible (Earth + Pallas). Not the material circumstances we wish we could have–don’t confuse ‘most desirable’ or ‘ideal’ with ‘wise’–but the physical and asset situation that is the smartest for implementing our life path/ intended life direction.
What if you don’t know your life path, your intended direction of development? A glance at your natal North Node should at the very least give you a general subject and area for manifestation range that implies whether your current life choices, in the most broad terms, serve this direction. You don’t have to know precisely where you’re going–who does?–you just have to have a feel for it–and let things unfold from there. For instance, a natal North Node in the 3rd in Virgo implies something Mercurial, likely with several facets of this energy. That covers a lot of ground, but you know in an instant if your life is generally proceeding with a lot of Mercury-related emphasis or not.
So, successfully combining the intended life direction energy and wise material surroundings/ circumstances and you will be able to funnel the energy to the Juno/ Venus apex point, with a likely result of empowerment, enrichment, and a strong, positive relationship dynamic at your fingertips.
Also of note: the T-square involving apex Mars with the Sun/ Earth axis is still in effect. This promises to show us precisely how and where the ego and Will are conflicting with the life direction. Should show the ways in which we sabotage ourselves; but will we listen, and do something about the Self-destructive behavior?
And Jupiter quincunxes Vesta, suggesting that the social sphere must adjust to what’s truly sacred, the Gulf oil spill protests being one way in which Gaia is mustering some to speak for her, and ask for a reassessment (Merc retro) of our thinking on issues of material exploitation.
