The following is taken from the New Moon report in ECLIPSE Newsletter; to see the full report, please subscribe!

The 24th sees a New Moon at 2 Capricorn 34 at 10:06 AM PST. We’ll give ourselves slightly more than the usual two degree orb, which brings us a sextile to the Vesta/ Chiron conjunction, a square to Uranus, and a trine to Jupiter. A New Moon births new beginnings, and though we’ll feel the inception energy, it may have the character of stretching the new skin beneath a scar; we’re clearly exercising ‘new territory,’ but there is a painful feel under the surface of things.

The Sabian for the NM degree is, ‘A Human Soul, In Its Eagerness For New Experiences, Seeks Embodiment’ This, plus the above listed aspects, tells us that the unique thing we will be birthing or expressing, that may cause us to shield ourselves and contort ourselves in trying to present something that does not suit our true state, is really an attempt to express some eager newly discovered part of the Self. Because this is a new facet of our Beingness (at least in terms of our own familiarity with its qualities) we may fear that it will be mauled, protect it like a frail kitten, and try to gussy it up in an attempt to impress others, our assumptions about what will dazzle gleaned from our own insecurities and fears of ridicule.

What these New Moon symbolisms tell us is that we will discover and bring forth something new and fresh and wonderful from our Souls, and that we will be sorely tempted to respond in an immature way, to hide its true nature, essentially, because we will fear hurt, judgment, or other censure–but the symbols also assure us that this new facet of ourselves and our experience will be well received, welcomed by our circle–so that our response to this fresh part of us becomes dependent on our own ability to operate true to who we are, without Self-imposed distortions or ridicule.

A little on the Solstice and its meaning, in my opinion:

Solstice points are extremes of light and darkness in the physical world; it’s natural that we might see this as significant, and certainly, the symbology of it plays in to our own physical response to changes in light and the way this affects our physiology and the metabolic processes. The Solstices, though, are not astrological events, which is why I don’t usually write about them–in fact, I do not see them as astronomical events either, but an Earth-centered occurrence, since they are tilt-specific and seasonal far points, astronomical only in the way in which we are receiving the Sun’s light. Instead, I see human response to the Solstices as having a magical quality, and what I can only describe as a kind of religious significance–and this is a personal experience, felt if one has a reverence for nature. We are at an extreme point in one facet of our relationship to our environment, our earth, and the Universe, at the time of the Solstices–and of course, the extreme length of the darkness we undergo in the Northern hemisphere at this time suggests contemplation of the inner plane, while in the Southern realms the long day implies emphasis on the external, a revealing of what is and a chance to see surroundings as clearly as possible. We are brought to the farthest point where we as individuals will connect nature and our state of Being; it is symbolically the point of extremity where they interact, and the place from which we will then retreat, headed psychologically in the opposing direction. Differentiating the phenomena that are all around us is, I think, important–we shouldn’t think of the Aurora Borealis, for instance, in the same way we think of the astrological symbolism of Uranus–they meet in the way one is (likely) ruled by the other in astrological terms, but the nature of these is entirely different, with one a physical manifestation of nature, the other a component of a symbolic system that after millenia of observation offers us some correlation to energetic meanings in our own lives–if we confound the two, and start seeing the AB as heralding some Uranian significance, or as a transit of Uranus suggesting the AB will appear (though transits do alert us to possibilities, it is not the transit itself that makes something appear–that is the distinction), then we enter the realm of superstition–and nobody wants to go there, right? Thinking and seeing clearly are why we read astrology–and probably why we’re interested in the physical and the symbolic in the first place–and why we must honor the Solstices for the spiritual feeling they stir, rather than for any inherent meaning they carry.

To those who celebrate the varied holidays that fall this time of year, my very best wishes–and to all, a wonderful New Moon start!

Void begins at 4:07 PM PST; Moon enters Capricorn 7:05 PM PST.

Right away we have a conjunction of the Moon and Venus, a sextile to Chiron, and a square to Uranus. Released from our previous uncertainty and worry, we are now feeling all the pressures of Capricorn (what’s my status? do I matter? what are the rules? where are the boundaries?) and they seem inseparable from our relationships and perhaps the asset situation as well. With some discipline we can draw on our most unique skills, though we should expect real conflict with the group or dealing with our own rebellious feelings–so the only source of difficulty in reality will be within, or with the group–but not in the relationships or financial situations that seem to be the source. We must work to keep it straight :)

'La Fortuna' Agache 1885 {{PD-Art}}

Unfortunately, this is a day of mostly warnings (see the rest on the protected page, by subscription). Just after midnight the Capricorn Moon trines Sedna and squares Saturn. We can’t see obstacles, problems, or boundaries! Good for pushing forward with dreams,unless those dreams take us near cliffs or heavy machinery. The quincunx between Saturn and Sedna is lingering and means we’ll have difficulty for some time knowing when enough is enough, what the rules really are, and when to, as Nancy R. so eloquently put it, “Just say no.” The Moon’s contact only brings the emotional and intuitive energies to focus in this direction, in this case with an almost criminally easy disregard for the rules. Play it safe, or takes your chances :)

5 PM Pacific the Aquarian Moon sextiles Uranus, bringing little emotional shocks, surprises, and revelations–and maybe more than one of these. We know emotionally what about our own actions or ego has drawn these to us; it’s a point of understanding that is bigger than its parts.

Merc joins Venus at 29 degrees–and we probably won’t be able to stop communicating, or thinking about, our Venus pressures! There might be a lot of thinking about passions, values, and the worth of things, so that we may be quite abruptly prompted to drop certain interests, seemingly out of the blue.

For heaven’s sake, subscribe! The new issue of ECLIPSE comes out today, evening of the 1st Pacific time. Includes your Tongue-In-Cheek Guide to Surviving the Holidays, your detailed forecast, and much more!

'Medieval Women as Warriors' Artist unknown {{PD-Art}}

It’s a day light on Lunar aspects, but I can share this tidbit:

1:30 PM PDT the Capricorn Moon sextiles Ceres; we see aid from those in authority (or we are just able to get along with them!) or Mother Nature gives us a boost, or our negotiations go well. We in some way get a little more power in one or more arenas.

Just a Little Essence for the Weekend 29-30 October 2011: ‘Keeping the Vision Clear’

'Riding the Sacred Elephant'--surely that's a euphemism for something we should all try Artist unknown c1675 {{PD-Art}}

for Saturday, the 29th (remember, effects span 3-4 hours either side of a Lunar aspect)

Right before 10 PM PDT the Sag Moon trines Mars in Leo; does this bring some Fire into our lives? Maybe, if we’ve recently had a lot of Indian food, or if we are inclined to big, expansive emotional displays that are tightly linked to the ego. Everyone else might simply be prompted to finally take the first step on that exotic trip they’ve been dreaming about, to finally act on long-time feelings, or to head for the horizon, literally or figuratively, looking for ‘more’ or ‘better’ Make choices with care; even if we wake up somewhere new, we still have a lot of ‘old’ to deal with.

. . . and for the 30th

6 AM Pacific time sees the Sag Moon sextile Neptune. This can make us think we know things, even though those things are really figments of our imaginations. Though we normally may see ourselves as psychic, sensitive, or just plain observant, the Neptune placement in Aquarius is too mind-focused to allow a true psychic flow–we instead substitute the mentality, and the Sag Moon brings an emphasis on knowing that doesn’t like to go unanswered, with the combination substituting the imagination and supposition for psychic perception. Just so you know.

Void begins 6:30 AM PDT, exacerbating the tendency promised by the previous aspect to lead ourselves astray; Moon enters Capricorn, sign of tough little goats climbing rock solid mountains of facts, at 9:39 AM PDT. Could be a tremendous jolt for those who got swept away by their own ‘psychic vision aka trick of the imagination’ Now reality will intrude–probably rudely. Everyone else may breathe a sigh of relief as what is takes firm shape around us and we gain confidence and security in dealing with matter, not fantasy. The opening sextile to Chiron can make us sensitive, and/ or draw forward our Chirotic skills in real-world ways; Pallas sits at the Moon/ Chiron midpoint, infusing the effort with wisdom and purpose.

de Ribera {{PD-Art}}

Just before 8 AM PDT the Moon trines Venus, inviting us to a lovely time–make sure this has a material component, as the aspect practically begs us to enjoy life! and we’ll need our strength for . . .

the Moon’s noonish Pacific time opposition to Mars. It really will be ‘High Noon’ for some of us, with a showdown where everyone flashes more than a little ego and aggression. Best preparation is to know very firmly where you stand, and what your rights are, and have a clear picture of the rules and regulations–this will keep you from accepting anything that’s not already written in stone. And if all else fails, Capricorn Moon says, Stonewall!

I’ve been lucky enough lately to receive a great many requests for service, and though I regretfully had to turn down the majority of requests, I’ve accommodated as many of you as possible. Thank you all for the confidence you’ve displayed in me and the offers you’ve made to work together. Unfortunately, I must say that, as listed under ‘Services + Books,’ I am unavailable and cannot make any more exceptions–it’s putting me too far behind in my other obligations. So please, check the page before writing to me, and if it says I’m not available, believe it! I’m sorry to say, I will not even be able to answer any more of these queries, as that, too, takes time.

Moon squares Uranus, 1 AM PDT. Oh those Cardinals, emotion (Moon) and action-heavy, with an anarchic and rebellious spirit thrown into the pot as well! This could spell capital ‘T’ Trouble for some; for everyone else, we may see mild to very serious emotional upset. Conflict may center on showing how we have freedom, a ‘Nobody can tell me what to do!’ statement that, hey, look around, no one asked us to make! The thing is, we’ll be having the riot or rebellion in our own heads, more than anywhere else. Bar fights, stupid dares that we accept, and inebriated, spur-of-the-moment trips across the county line to get married are all possibilities.

By 7:30 AM PDT the Capricorn Moon trines Sedna. This happens in Earth, and we may lose our emotional connection to what surrounds us. Whether we’re aware of it or not, we typically ‘relate’ to our environment–not consciously, but through a sort of truce or vibe to the things that make up our world. A truce if the item is something that might endanger or threaten us, while  we vibe to (or at least make peace with) all the things in our surroundings–we ‘like’ them, perhaps identify with them, use them, and sometimes feel indifferent to them, and most of this is not done at a conscious level. At this point we may lose that connection, which typically orients us in a very mundane way–so be ready to lose your bearings, just for a bit.

The Essence for 10 August 2011: Heartening News

Around 3 AM Pacific Ceres retros back into the 29th degree of Pisces, putting her into a state of stress, and bringing her focus from Self-assertion (Aries) to concern with the Collective (Pisces). Authority and power makes a (probably refreshing) return of attention to what’s in everyone’s best interests; look for some heartening news in this regard, though there’s also the problem of authorities acting out of real stress–and making poor choices as a result.

7 PM-ish PDT the Moon quincunxes Venus; we find ourselves challenged to accommodate the ego needs of our relationships (Venus in Leo), or we see the costs of holding back our emotions (Moon in Capricorn). Either way, it’s a balancing act. Just after 10 PM Pacific the Moon quincunxes the Sun, and we see clearly the emotional adjustments needed in just about every area–but we may find ourselves loathe to make the needed changes (the immobility of the Cap Moon).

The Essence for 9 August 2011: Puttin’ On the Fancy

Moon in Capricorn, Moon in Sagittarius, My Daily Astrology Diary, The Astro Essence

By Sokolov c.1830s {{PD-Art}}

Around noon the Sagittarius Moon sextiles Neptune and trines Mercury, and both are retro and at 29 tense degrees. The fibs may fly, not ’cause anyone is bent on deceiving, but just because it’s so easy–the spinning of stories happens almost before we realize it. If we’re in a negotiation or receiving info from someone (not the best thing to do now anyway, with Merc retro) we may be in danger of both believing what we’re told wholeheartedly or guilty of embellishing things ourselves–the fancy may be put on after it reaches our ears–and in either case we’re susceptible to making wrong decisions because of it.

At this same time the Moon fills in a Fist of God with the Moon’s sextile to Ceres and both sesquiquadrate Venus. This is where we should focus, not on communications, but on the emotional perceptions of the authority and power situations in the life. When the feelings and the ‘power/ authority attitude’ are aligned, we receive a payoff, perhaps literally with a material reward, or with love, but in either case it feeds the ego.

There’s such a teeny Void, I’m not even paying attention to it; Moon enters Capricorn at 1:38 PM Pacific time.
