2:30 AM PST the Taurus Moon conjuncts Jupiter, making for big, indulgent emotions. If you are an emotional eater, duct tape your hands together (you’ll probably need a buddy for this!) and get as far from food (or perhaps seek out unappetizing surroundings) as you can; if you’re an emotional acter-out, you could do anything from vowing to (and starting to) re-paint the entire house–red!–to ripping through your SO’s belongings, looking for love letters and clues to a (likely mythical) other lover or other life! All I can say up front is that the pursuit will definitely be Taurean, and take on big proportions on a life-upsetting scale. Bubble baths and a little Valerian (not at the same time!!) are my suggestions. Or getting out for a sensual experience: mud bath, running in the rain, a concert, play, or IMAX movie–even a scratch ‘n sniff lottery ticket will help you get through this ;)

6:30 PM PST the Moon squares the Sun, pushing us to face what’s going on at the time in terms of assessing it–a somewhat critical stance that may not be all that illuminating, despite how it seems. Too much examination of anything at this time is to be avoided.

The 28th brings Merc square Jupiter, Earth quincunx Pluto, and the Sun sesquiquadrate Mars. This is a formula for discord and conflict, where everyone is to some extent uncomfortable. Communications come across as exaggerated or bragging, the social arena reacts poorly to what’s put out, we are unhappy with material circumstances and wish for change, and our need for action is illuminated and yet we are critical of any possible course we could take. Believing that action is a necessity is the big mistake; with our thoughts and energy tied up in conflict, there’s no way we can see clearly what to do. Despite what likely felt like extraordinary ‘luck’  we experienced yesterday, we are just not in the same position today–and need to accept that, and hang back a bit.

And the Lunar outlook for Sunday, the 29th:

6 AM PST the Moon quincunxes retro Mars. This may be the big kick-off to our personal efforts to remedy actions we think we got wrong in the pre-retro period.

Noonish the Aries Moon sextiles Pallas, giving us a little shot of common sense and smarts–we’ll know it wasn’t a good idea to do that Aries Moon-type thing (maybe getting emotionally aggressive, all up in one’s grill with our feelings-ouch!)

Just after 8 PM PST the Moon opposes Saturn and sextiles Neptune. What a combination!! We throw off all constraints and let our imaginations lead–the atmosphere is tense, with all at 29 degrees (perhaps imparting a feeling that we must do ‘it’!) and we have no idea where this will take us, as we proceed into the Void at 10:10 PM Pacific time–the only thing we can count on is that each individual will be an individual, and very very Willful. 8 AM PST the Pisces Moon sextiles Mercury with Neptune at the midpoint, trines Juno and quincunxes Saturn. Emotions may be way off the mark, formed under illusion, deception, fantasy, or in following ideals, but no matter what, they carry a communication punch that will be empowering for both listeners and speakers, in spite of the changes to the material situation that will be required.

We have an odd Void situation: The Moon heads toward the Void with Mercury only 7 minutes from entering Aquarius, but before the Moon hits the Void point Mercury enters the next sign, effectively Voiding our Void by removing the ‘measurement yardstick’ provided by Mercury! Let’s measure it from the time Luna pulls away from trine with Juno, 9:37 AM PST, though some may prefer the quincunx to Saturn as he has major planet status, leaving at 9:19 AM–but then again, many don’t use the quincunx in timing a Void!

In any case, the Moon enters Aries at 10:28 AM PST.

Typically, Mercury through Aquarius centers us so firmly in the intellectual that we may find feelings a surprise; this time, we see the Moon hits the Aries point when Merc has been in his new sign for only one minute, and that unites the energies by sextile in a potentially meaningful way. With the Aries Point suggesting revelation, and mentality rising to a new level of understanding in the sign of the Waterbearer, we might see some huge ‘Aha!’ moments that bring us clear realization as well as clear and deeply felt emotions. This would be unusual for anything involved with either Aries or Aquarius, where the dominant thrust of ‘I AM!’ Will, aggression, and the alternating compulsion to be rebellious and to process only through the intellect can leave the feeling function adrift, and severely neglected or denied, in a worst-case scenario.

Though this transit has the benefit of focusing the mentality on the Higher Mind, and thus making it much easier to align efforts with ideals, it also urges our minds to write checks our emotions, efforts, and bodies can’t cash, with depletion in all departments often the biggest danger.

Mercury enters Aquarius at 10:12 AM PST on the 27th of January.

4 PM PST the Pisces Moon sextiles Pluto. The emotions are gently *popped* open like an over-ripe fruit separating from its stone; it’s juicy and earthy-smelling and gets us all messy with its sweetness–and yet, good as it is, all we really want to do is consume it and wash! And so will be our experience at this time.

11:30 PM PST the Moon squares the Nodal axis, delivering that frequent but oh-so-necessary reality check at a gut level. Listen.

12:30 PM PST brings the Moon conjunct Pallas and quincunxes stationary retro Mars–eww. A stew of good intentions and positive advice that is unpalatable because of our own inability to get the spoon from bowl to mouth. Okay, that’s the end of the bad metaphors! Will simply feel like we’re stuck in spite of knowing where to go and what to do. :(

9:30 PM PST the Moon squares Juno, challenging our sense of empowerment. Do we feel strong? Something in the environment tries to convince us otherwise, but we really are personally empowered at this point–so don’t fall for it.

The New Moon was at 11:38 PM PST at 2 Aquarius 41. This Moon marks the Chinese New Year, as it’s always timed to the first New Moon in Aquarius; I think of it as a second, mini-New Year, with all the ‘fresh start’ potential brought forward for secondses–it’s a point where we can refine our New Year beginnings, and this is a helpful point of view for those who tend to overreach in the resolution department, or who carry too high an expectation for instant renovation and renewal. I think, then, that we should call this ‘The Forgiveness Moon’, with the emphasis on being understanding of ourselves.

The New Moon makes a semi-sextile to Chiron and a sextile to Uranus and Ceres, which are now conjunct. The NM touches Jupiter by square, reflecting the one area of discord in our scenario. The overall picture is of inceptions that are unique personal power expressions, a direct manifestation of the authority one holds and the individuality at its most characteristic, and these may hurt us (either treading on the primal wound, or injuring via the feedback we receive from the social arena) or call forth our unique skills keyed to our Chiron energies, offering healing to others (and the Self through expression)–and maybe both of these effects, hurt and healing expression, show up at once. The location of the NM in Aquarius, plus the way the Chiron contact is minor (and thus signaling that it’s more a side effect of the NM event, rather than a focus) tells us that the intellect will be stimulated, that this is likely the spark point of ideas (Aquarius) that become action that epitomizes each of us as individuals (Aries). We can think of this energy as creating an exciting new activity or action that may cause some blowback from our social circle (and this could have material repercussions, or could simply reflect envy–Jupiter in Taurus) but that will be a perfect and original expression of who we are.

For the 21st: 4 AM PST the Moon conjuncts Pluto. The emotions run deep, intense, and can be plumbed in such a way that they can be re-invigorated and rejuvenated–we come out the other side of this transit renewed, if we don’t fall to our own temptation to be overly critical, which only makes us want to destroy our ‘bad’ feelings (either ‘forbidden’ ones or ones that literally make us feel bad!) Don’t trash anything at this time–even the basic framework of our lives is threatened, by none other than ourselves, fueled by discomfiting emotion–channel the energy into transformation–you can call the shots on change and do it your way at this time. It’s particularly important that you take care in wielding this energy as there is a simultaneous sextile Moon to Venus that endangers what we care about, as well as our resources–there’s a real danger of throwing the baby out with the bathwater–so don’t! If you’re not happy with your financial or love situation, though, you can make changes at this point that can make a difference, if not felt immediately, then very soon thereafter.

For the 22nd: 3 AM PST the Moon conjuncts Mercury. There’s no mistaking that communications are firmly related to the reality picture at this time; they may, however, give us the idea that things are more restricted and grim than they really are. Too much focus on ‘what is’, rules and regulations, and the reality of things in the now can quash our dreams. Take a step back and regard reality with a jaded eye, knowing that what you don’t see is just as important.

Just post 5 PM PST the Moon squares Saturn and semi-sextiles Neptune, offering a reality check and the imagination-power to re-create anything we aren’t happy with more to our liking. We have a kind of ‘Magic Touch’ at this time–use it! Void begins (relative to Saturn, not Neptune) at 5:39 PM PST; the Moon enters Aquarius at 6:53 PM PST.

2:30 AM PST the Sagittarius Moon squares Mars, and we are prompted to act–or maybe I should say, act out. No. no.

1 PM Pacific time we see the Moon hit the midpoint of the Neptune/ Saturn trine (and she just misses contact with the Sun as he enters Aquarius). This brings an emotional perspective to all that has been brought from the imagination and creative effort into the physical/ material realm; we know with certainty how we feel about our creations, and we can intuit the ‘next step’ or the next project.

9:30 AM PST the Sagittarius Moon conjuncts the North Node and squares Vesta. We are faced with evidence via the emotional perceptions concerning our destined life direction and the course we’re on at this time, and this may conflict significantly with our highest values, our present home life, and/ or our most intimate relationship. It’s a wake-up call and moment of reckoning all rolled into one, that places a very real need to make some important choices in front of us. This quite likely won’t be sorted out in a day; the purpose is instead to bring serious attention to things that will have to be shaped, in some sense, to accommodate both our highest calling and our personal life.
