Taoist Immortals Celebrating Longevity' Tomioka Tessai 1923 {{PD-Japan-oldphoto}}

Taoist Immortals Celebrating Longevity’ Tomioka Tessai 1923 {{PD-Japan-oldphoto}}

Celebrating the beginning of our 5th year, with this first issue of 2014! We talk about Moments with Strangers (oh!), The Ascendant in the Whole Sign system, take a peek at books and movies (including ‘Upstream Color’ and ‘Stoker’), briefly comment on Mars retro, and get the Forecast for the coming week! Order here, at less than $7 per month, which includes the Weekly, the Daily (with a complete aspect-by-aspect Lunar forecast and the Daily Image), as well as free and low cost lessons and services–what are you waiting for?

And for tomorrow, the 3rd: our own thoughts may be the source of so much internal discord; we are at odds with our own desires and ambitions, and can’t help but think our empowerment options are either ineffective or some kind of trap! The Aquarian Moon isn’t helping, with its cool mindset that so easily questions our wants, our goals, our values, and our sense of personal power and authority in our own lives (by Air trine to Zeus, Vesta, and Ceres in Libra, which only encourages us to look to others for reassurance). Funny, then, that if we can get out of our own heads for a minute, we will find a great big ol’ spotlight shining on the wise thing, the smart thing, the answer we’re looking for, right out in the open, there for the taking. (Mercury semi-square Juno, square Zeus, Sun trine Pallas)

1 January 2014 Wow—talk to others, talk to anybody, talk to yourself, or read, listen to programs or music, eavesdrop, whatever—communication will be a fount of wisdom today. You’ll learn a great deal, some of it useful, some of it merely awesome in its insight. As well, it will be very helpful dealing with the power structure glimpsed clearly today; we can see what we’re dealing with, see how to get our own status a lift, and will locate the knowledge and the skills to handle it all successfully. If we want it, we can put ourselves onto the path of greater power at this point—the appropriateness of this quest will rely on how you define power. (Mercury trine Pallas, Sun conjunct Pluto)

If you haven’t already, scroll down to see the previous post on the New Year’s New Moon–and order here, to receive it all in your email daily! Happy New Year to All!

'The Bathers' Albert Anker 1865 {{PD-Art}}

‘The Bathers’ Albert Anker 1865 {{PD-Art}}

26 December is it the fanciful speculation by those around us that’s grating on our nerves, or is it we who entertain fantasies aloud, to the chagrin of others? There’s nothing wrong with communicating the ideal, the fantastical, or the imaginative, it’s just that some of us may be suffering from a surprising difficulty manipulating the material world, which is just outright irritating, and having to listen to others yammer about Shangri-La at the same time chafes. Our efforts somehow go badly: the physical refuses to be manhandled, so that things like moving furniture or putting up curtains or taking a trip to the grocery store just go badly. We drop the couch on our toes, manage to drill the holes for the curtain rod in the wrong place, and disturb the entire pyramid of Nicaraguan peaches, sending them splatting to the floor. It’s a day to escape, through reading, a spa treatment, movies, creative work, or our other Neptunian pursuits, like swimming or drinking! It’s only one day—don’t overdo. (Perfecting: Mercury sextile Neptune, Earth sesquiquadrate Saturn)

A Little on the Holidays, A Little on the Solstice + A Little on Venus Retrograde

Apparently this is a Christmas card from 1910--but it certainly looks like a hipster

Apparently this is a Christmas card from 1910–but it certainly looks like a modern-day hipster who knows his knots {{PD}}

Interesting that what we label ‘the holidays’ in much of the Western world typically falls in Capricorn. That would seem odd, with Cap’s stodgy reputation (though the affinity for gratitude in this sign is a nice fit) except when we note how Earth, the very planet upon which we sit, is currently (from a heliocentric point of view) nestled in caring, loving, nurturing, mommy-ish Cancer, with the holidays in question centered on the generosity and love that is at the heart of Cancer’s urge to nurture, feed, and ‘fix’. To be open to those Earthly energies, to celebrate them and express our appreciation for others with gifts and song and food (so Cancer!) and then to renew ourselves (like a phoenix, or a license, or a Time Lord) as the New Year begins—and this year we really do have a chance to rise from the ashes, as the Sun of 1 January 2014 conjuncts Pluto, and Mars squares the Sun-Earth axis, providing unlimited energy, the kinetic kind, with a chance to reform and resurrect identity and purpose.

The 21st is the Solstice and the beginning of the Venus Retrograde, the former marking the shortest day and longest night at the equator, with the recipe reversed for the Southern hemisphere, and the latter bringing us temporary changes in values, attitudes toward Love and Money, and often lessening of opportunity in the Houses ruled by Venus—though House matters may play out instead as relationship, aesthetic, or spending choices we later find cringeworthy. Think about how the retro period, running through 31 January, gives us plenty of time for a whirlwind courtship and marriage, enough time to cash out our life savings to invest in that plan for a space elevator or chinchilla breeding scheme (at a time when use of fur may be at an all-history low) or to finance your brother-in-law’s invention that’s been sitting under a tarp in his garage for years, and certainly we do have time to get the Last Supper tattooed on our backs, and the retro runs just long enough that most of us, if doing our worst, could end up jobless, homeless, and/ or divorced if given enough Venus contrarian rope. Be careful, as we can’t count on the reliability of our own tastes, values, or feelings to guide us terribly well during the Venus retro—that, of course, is where the danger lies. The best guideline: don’t do anything that can’t be easily undone, should you change your mind after direction.

This is from the 50th issue of ECLIPSE this year, and the final one for 2013; to subscribe and get everything delivered to you for less than $7 per month, please click here!

Thank You to All my Readers, and Wishing All a Wonderful end to 2013, and a Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year in 2014!

'Composition With Violin' by Dick Ket--Before 1940 {{PD-Art}}

‘Composition With Violin’ by Dick Ket–Before 1940 {{PD-Art}}

19 December we may avoid seeing the true nature of power and its expression around us, and we might prefer illusion to ‘the real thing’. That would be a shame, and cost us knowing ourselves better. Embrace what’s wild and creative, and listen for the message in everything—everybody will be communicating whether they mean to or not—some may ‘forget’ important information. (Neptune sesquiquadrate Ceres, Mercury quincunx Sedna)

Today’s image is a beautiful carved music box. You pick it up, lift the lid–what song does it play? It’s a clue as to how you’re proceeding today–any statements, advice, or unflattering choices made by the subject(s) of the song or within the lyrics should be seen as cautionary or advisory, a direct pipeline from the Universe to you.

13 December we may find ourselves boxing with our own shadows today, with winners being those you can spot the real-world empowerment opportunities and re-align themselves, their efforts, and their attitudes in order to take advantage of the possibilities. It’s a matter of fighting lots of paper tigers we erect ourselves, fantasies, delusions, dream material, thoughts we carry that do not support the persona or its presentation, and much of this distraction is based on the way we are putting our attention on the past. If we allow it to, ‘what was’ enshrouds us in a fog that prevents any meaningful engagement with today. Those who are willing to focus on now, especially on the material situation they find themselves in, and are willing to take a flexible approach in terms of expectations and results, can find their opportunities, as well as their personal power and influence, growing exponentially. (Mars quincunx Neptune, Sun sesquiquadrate South Node)

12 December we could see big payoffs for previous efforts, for following the rules, or for concentrating on constructive action. What we hear may not jibe with this—we may be told we’re losing love or money for our work—but that may be inaccurate, the feedback of someone who didn’t put in the hours that you have. Opportunities abound and are out in the open—go gather some. (Jupiter trine Saturn, Mercury semi-square Venus)

Your ECLIPSE Weekend Sampler 6-8 December 2013: Need

Gauguin 1893 {{PD-Art}}

Gauguin 1893 {{PD-Art}}

On the current Saturn picture:

Saturn is in Scorpio, already digging up secrets, researching, and making big, permanent change, and he enjoys mutual reception with Pluto in Capricorn, whose mission at present is similar; time’s planet is also currently semi-sextile Zeus (ambitions and desire/ lust), trine Jupiter (excess, the social sphere, knowledge), and square Juno (status through the partner or position, personal empowerment and effectiveness), and by early March will be retrograding. So, the planet of stability, reality, and responsibility is being affected by some of the most passionate energies in life, and, are we surprised? This is applying a lot of influence (pressure sounds much too negative) on our judgment at this time.

It’s pointing us toward a massive need to feel strongly and deeply, to connect to others or the environment with passion, to immerse ourselves in the Water of Saturn and Jupiter so that feeling becomes the principal experience at this time. The danger of not noticing and addressing this compelling emotional influence on the reality picture at present is that we may become disoriented, swept away (or aside!) by the passions we find so involving, and could see fear, another Saturnian facet, arise and take over our perceptions as a result.

7 December our attention goes to gaining cooperation, to getting others on board with our aesthetics, to doing ‘it’ together, and can easily be perverted into passive-aggression or a belief that if that’s what we want, that’s what everybody wants. Mars is never happy in Libra, and this is no exception—considering his long (through late July 2014) residence there (due to retrograde) we are looking at some truly testing circumstances for Martial energies. I think we need to get into the habit of checking our Will and our viewpoint; the big danger is that we’ll push for, even fight for, what we think is the common desire, only to find we’ve been promoting only our own wants. Mars in Libra is a tricky tightrope to walk, but can be negotiated with balance, keeping the interests of the Self and others (the Aries/ Libra partnership) on a fair and even keel at all times.

Today’s image (8 December) is a jump rope, discarded, partially frozen in a puddle. At this coldest (or hottest, depending on your location) time of the year, we may be remarkably sedentary, hiding from the weather and disinclined to get the exercise we need. Make a conscious effort to get up and moving, no matter what it’s doing outside; inspiration lies in taking action (Mars headed toward quincunx with Neptune)

Just a Little AstroEssence 3-4 December 2013: A New Place in Nature

GE Hicks 'Girl by the Shore' 1878 {{PD-Art}}

GE Hicks ‘Girl by the Shore’ 1878 {{PD-Art}}

Void begins at 7:46 PM PST of the 3rd; the Moon enters Capricorn at 10:50 PM PST December 3.

4 December brings our first true reactions to the surface linked to the New Moon; we see our ‘new’ place in Nature, we begin to assess the costs of change (some of which we judge to be decidedly unwise at this point), and we look to express our uniqueness without doing anything stupid. We are really just beginning to consider serious change (even if we feel like that’s all we’ve been doing!); we will begin assessing relationships in terms of the contact (or lack of it) they make with us at a Soul level. Our thoughts range far and wide, examining the possibilities for expansion into the future, and we get direct, material ‘hints’ as to what’s coming (watch for signs, symbolisms, and synchronicities!) It really is a day to think about ‘What Will Be’. (Uranus quincunx Pallas, Venus trine Sedna, sesquiquadrate Pallas, Sun sextile Ceres, Mercury enters Sagittarius)
