Emile Friant ‘La Discussion politique’ before 1932 {{PD}}

Dear Libra, communication and clear thinking, especially in relationships, may be your biggest challenge this year, through to your next birthday–and it may grow into your biggest asset. Though it might be tough going over the next few months, the conditions under which you interact with others and share information will force you to pay excruciatingly close attention, to absorb nuance, and to read implications very precisely–and so hone your communication skills to a degree that might almost appear supernatural to the observer. Once you have sharpened your perceptual abilities, instinct kicks in to aid you, and then you’ll be ready to tackle those issues avoided or ignored–but for now, just know that out of some difficult beginnings, this year could shape a quick mentality and some exceptional skills. Happy Birthday, Libra, and good luck!

Constantin Hansen ‘Portrait of a Little Girl, Elise Købke, with a Cup in front of her’ {{PD}}

A little Lunar essence for today, the 15th:

4 PM PDT the Cancer Moon squares Mercury and trines Ceres. Thoughts and feelings are not in harmony, but as long as we are basing things on our connection to Nature, and/ or to our sense of personal authority, all will go well (but for how long, with the mentality dormant or confused and all sensory equipment down?) Don’t worry, we get a ‘new’ handle on things soon enough–’til then, coast. 11 PM PDT the Moon squares Pallas. Why are we so tempted to do something so dumb? Okay, I’ll be more Libra-diplomatic and say, ‘unwise’–but really, dumb–just don’t! Void begins at 12:39 AM of the 16th Pacific time; the Moon enters Leo at 3:30 AM PDT.

And for the 16th:

16 October why does it feel as if what’s smart will hurt if implemented? We’re deluded about what needs to be protected, and our instincts place us in conflict with what we value and what we want. Our thoughts are confused and we may act before we think (or plan)—today’s really the day for dealing with up front issues in such a way that we map out future action, rather than making a move in the present. We have a brief but clear planning window, which relies on our willingness to lay everything out while agreeing not to do anything for now. Special note to artists: creativity may take us down a weird path, and inspiration fails to respect actions we’ve already taken. Be willing to record ideas but forego action on inspiration received at this time—chances are high that the products of creative actions taken now will just have to be scrapped later. (Perfecting today: Chiron sesquiquadrate Pallas, Neptune square Vesta, Venus contra-parallel Sedna, Mercury parallel Neptune and sextile Mars, Sun-Mercury meet in Inferior Conjunction and contra-parallel Black Moon Lilith)

The Daily Word image for the 16th:

Today’s image is a hot cup of tea. Don’t neglect those small rituals that make life enjoyable–when we get busy they can fall by the wayside, and we may find we feel twice as worn without them.

Have a great day, subscribe if you want more (this is all part of the ECLIPSE subscription) and my latest article is still available here–thanks!

This year you may want to go low-key with the ego for awhile, Libra. Seitei (Shotei) Watanabe Before 1918 {{PD}}

The desire to mold reality to your Will may be your motivation this coming Solar year, through to your next birthday, dear Libra–and yet there is a part of you that longs to subdue the ego and simply lose the Self in acceptance of what is–what’s a Libra to do? Concentrate on ‘planting the seed’, for whatever is most important to you–hold the creative act as a sacred event, and then stand back and give whatever you’ve planted room to begin. In the meantime, finances may currently be (or seem) abundant, but that might not last, so plan ahead, and face issues you’d normally turn away from–taking care of them now adds to your personal authority in a way nothing else can. Happy Birthday, Libra, and good luck!

Max Kurzweil 1899 Mujer con un vestido amarillo (Woman in a yellow dress) {{PD}}

You are concentrating keenly on your life’s mission this Solar year, dear Libra, through to your next birthday. You are driven, by passion, by belief or life philosophy, by the need to share your knowledge, and you expect cooperation and support from others–and yet, what you need to remember is that your agenda is not the agenda of most (if not all) of those who surround you. You’ll need to exercise your legendary diplomacy, of course, but most important may be the way you’ll need to shelter both your emotions and your creative energies; either or both can be too easily hurt, out of hyper-sensitivity, both of the feeling senses and of your creative ideas: you need to be sure they are fully formed and completely thought out before you present them–and that may take a little more time than you want it to–but it will be time well-spent, and assure that what you bring forward will survive and thrive–and that you will, too. Happy Birthday, Libra, and good luck!

Solar Return focus on: Venus sextile Jupiter. Does this promise bounty? Yes and no–it promises more, but if relationships or finances aren’t going well . . . you get the picture–this doesn’t change the current situation so much as enhance it greatly–so you may see it in new, exaggerated form and so see how to modify it to bring you more of what you actually want. This contact also suggests that the matters of the three (or more, depending on the system used) Houses ruled by Venus and Jupiter will act in concert exceptionally well at this time, so if you have a venture involving one or more of these, now may be the time to launch it (provided your plans are already in place and no further paperwork or agreements are needed at this time, and it is not Mercury-ruled or related–Merc retro–otherwise, wait until after direction).

Sometimes a message from the past seems almost unintelligible. Fragment of a Letter-Roman Written between 0150-0199 {{PD}}

Messages come out of the past for you, this coming Solar year, dear Libra, and what they contain is wisdom meant to be applied in the Now; the problem may be that you are heading toward practical application of what you know, hear, and discover, even as your ambitions pull you toward a more glamorous and aesthetically-oriented expression of who you are. The conflict between these two forces, the wise and practical, and the desire generated by the dream-machine, may cause you to get very little accomplished–but Libra, don’t let that happen. You cover the most ground this year, through to your next birthday, by planning ahead, by facing what you’d rather not, by being willing to stand up for yourself, and by connecting completely with your personal authority–do those things, glamorous or not, and let things unroll from there. Happy Birthday, Libra, and good luck!

Take notes, Libra. Cornelius Norbertus Gijsbrechts – Trompe l’oeil. ‘Board Partition with Letter Rack and Music Book’ 1668 {{PD}}

You are creating your own destiny today, dear Libra–and you may ask, so doesn’t everybody do that, every day? Yes, they do, but this Solar year, through to your next birthday, you will be creating your future with every, and I mean every, action and choice. Somehow you are under a kind of magnifying glass in terms of your actions; they seem to be exaggerated in the effect they will have, to the point where external factors will have little to do with the path you lay out. You help yourself most by remaining aware of your own power in this, by gleaning everything you can about what you should or should not do from the past, and by refusing to become paralyzed with indecision. Keep in mind there’s no right or wrong direction you can take, only ones more or less aligned with your goals and needs. Stay casual (rather than pressured or freaked out) in your approach, plan, think, and network–this latter is important when you might need it, so don’t hesitate–and use your highest values to guide your priorities and goals. Happy Birthday, Libra, and good luck!

Rudolf Koller 1856 {{PD}}

Rudolf Koller 1856 {{PD}}

I think of the two weeks between eclipses as a kind of valley; we can’t see clearly over the mountain behind us, to where we’ve just been, and we can’t see what’s over the mountain ahead of us, either. In the human animal this builds tension, as we fear being trapped in this situation indefinitely; anything could surprise us, and we are very aware of that! In traversing the current valley between the eclipses, we scan the horizon for aid and opportunity (Sun sextile Jupiter) and we look intently for what we should do, how we should act (Sun sextile Mars), and we do all of it with our fate, the direction we’re traveling in life (Sun conjunct North Node), front and center in our (confused–Merc retro) thoughts.

There is nothing unusual in this tension between eclipses; it’s one of the reasons we anticipate their arrival with such dread. We know in our bones, remember in our nerve endings and muscles and psyche, how very stressful the last round was. And yet, there isn’t much we can do about this feeling. In the current situation we’ve just been through an ending, or had the inevitable ending of something signaled loud and clear (the Lunar eclipse of the 8th), and even if we knew this was coming, it was hard; we likely had to admit something about ourselves and what we want (Aries placement) that we had been avoiding up ’til now. This was an area (signified by the House where the eclipse fell) that we may have been controlling, trying to control, or telling ourselves we were controlling–and suddenly we must face that our Will controls absolutely nothing outside our own skin (and not even all inside of that!)

The new start we get on the 23rd (the Solar eclipse) can be summed up as offering a beginning that is ‘wise and valuable’–and that’s so whether we see it as such or not! That doesn’t make our anticipation any less tense, though; it’s like the stress of bringing home a new baby, getting engaged, winning the lottery. In spite of the fact that it’s one of the best things that can happen to us, we still experience a great deal of upset, pressure, unforeseen effects, and our responsibility–our need to respond–is tested and stretched and drains us of energy and initiative right at the point when we need it most. Knowing that something like this is coming can grate on us terribly–but knowing that’s the case, and knowing there’s nothing to be done about it, should free us. We can safely ignore much of what’s troubling us now–whatever needs facing will come to us, with the eclipse in Scorpio, representing a raw kind of truth at 00 of the sign–and it will open the way to a new beginning–and most of us would really welcome one of those right about now.

What do you imagine is at the top of their lists? Albert Sands Southworth and Josiah Johnson Hawes ‘The Letter’ circa 1850 {{PD}}

What you want to accomplish will be at the top of your list this coming Solar year, through to your next birthday, dear Libra–but the question is, Will you be able to mesh the Will with the currently established life direction? And do you want to?

You’ll make excellent forward progress, and the temptation may be to modify goals to aim higher and bigger; this is possible, but if you choose to alter what you’re going for you’ll also inevitably lose at least some of the momentum you’ve built in the current direction. If you’re okay with the trade-off, it can be done, but it may be more satisfying to continue on the current course, as results, accomplishments, and rewards are right around the corner. Too, this year may be difficult in both communication and emotional matters; one or both areas may be under intense stress, and for some problems here will combine and make for upset especially in relationships. But on the bright side, there are two areas where you may do exceptionally well: being original and true to yourself, and allowing healing to occur to past hurts, will bring Love, money, or both into the life. Not bad, right? Happy Birthday, Libra, and good luck!

Bonus info: watch the natal Houses with Virgo and Gemini on the cusp or that contain them; the areas and subjects of these Houses are liable to be the source of 99% of this year’s problems and stress for you.

‘Lule ne Llamp’ 2 October 2012 by Bessi Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported

Ambitions are coming to full flower this year, dear Libra, but so are your assertive urges–and this is great, as the dynamic willingness to ‘do’ will serve you very well by advancing your agenda and moving you toward goal fulfillment; it may also trip you up, as the ‘I Am’ will accept no excuses for not getting what it wants. Be careful when communicating; not only can that assertiveness offer others a less-than-flattering impression, you might be terribly misunderstood, and the mate or partner could end up receiving the brunt of your frustration. Those are minor points, though, within the Big Picture, as you’ll be offered a (possibly once-in-a-lifetime) array of opportunities that will allow you to shine, earn, and share generously with others in your life–and that’s what it’s all about, isn’t it? Happy Birthday, Libra, and good luck!

Solar Return featured aspect: rather than an aspect, this is about an empty spot that when filled during the year by transit (or natally by a placement, or by Secondary Progression or Solar Arc) can lead to extraordinarily focused efforts that will accelerate achievement radically. Watch the 16-18 range of Taurus, through to your next birthday, as anything here will fill in a Finger of God that puts your SR energies aimed at action, choice, and goal fulfillment in high gear. Since the SR Moon for this birthday is in Taurus, some of you will have that Moon filling in the Finger for the entire year–and that offers a rocket forward with some serious material benefits.

Earth and her Moon taken by the Galileo probe 1990 NASA {{PD}}

A few bits in this post-eclipse season:

9 October: Merc retro is pulling things we’d rather leave in the past into the present and messing with our feelings of empowerment and effectiveness. Why? As Merc moves backward it pulls things with it like water exiting a drain—and anything left lying around unattended from the past is prime for Mercury to suck, dredge, and serve up. What we see, though, if we look past the sodden mess of Mercury in retreat is our shining ambitions and desires, the pinnacle of what we hope for, high upon the hill; all we need do to reach them is adjust our values and home and mate interactions, just so, allowing us to make both what we have and what we want harmonize. Sweet. (Perfecting today: Juno square Mercury and parallel the South Node, Sun conjunct and parallel Zeus, Earth sesquiquadrate Vesta). Lunar Note: 11 PM PDT the Taurus Moon trines Pluto. You have the power to shape the material world at this point–use it wisely.

10 October: Relationships and finances are calling for adjustment—without the flexibility to accommodate changing situations, we may find ourselves looking at severely outdated interactions sitting in for real relationships, and severely reduced financial circumstances substituting for dynamic earning and attracting. We have the chance to engineer bounty—do it! Take opportunities, respond to circumstances as they are, not as you wish they were, and listen—others are there to help, whether it’s with advice or by example, whether they’ll be showing you how to do ‘it’, or warning you off by their own poor choices. (Perfecting today: Merc enters Libra, Venus quincunx Chiron, Sun sextile Jupiter)
