What does healthy Self-assertion look like to you? We may think it has something to do with flexing our muscles, declaring our power, or marking our territory, because it kind of feels like we need to do that–but we should know that, at least today, we would be doing that only for ourselves, and possibly putting others off in the process. It may feel as if we’re required to make choices that compromise us and that threaten our personal power, status, or reach. In reality, the issues will center in being willing to bend enough to honor our own values and commitments–so you see, it’s an internal issue, at essence, one where the unbending ego insists it’s being wronged, when what you’re really called to do is live up to your own obligations and ideals–walking your talk, if you will (Juno semi-sq Hygeia, Vesta sq Ceres)

Over the next few days, we have an Earth Grand Trine with the Sun, Saturn, and Uranus. Our attention goes to sudden, instantaneous changes to our reality picture, to obstacles, barriers, restraints, rules, and perhaps most importantly, to results of the passage of time and past efforts–and with the Moon approaching Full (perfecting AM PDT of the 26th)  those results, coupled with the signature endings of a Full Moon, are likely to feel too restrictive, like a dead-end, like something has closed in on us. This is specifically because of the Sun’s current approach in trine to Saturn–as if possibilities and alternatives simply slip away–and we see it, spotlighted, before us, our awareness likely exaggerating the importance or the effect itself. ‘I’ve got no choice’ may become the refrain for those operating unconsciously. For the rest of us, however, there’s hope. If you’re not happy with what you see developing around you, you may want to gather energies and intent to be dedicated at the time of the Full Moon; these should focus on what you want to create for the future (Pisces Full Moon quincunx the North Node). Just something to think about in the run up to the Lunar event.

Today’s word image is an astrological aspect: Saturn trine Uranus–let’s make that any natal relationship between the two. In the birth chart they offer a small recipe for stasis, balance, and energy flow and expenditure in the life; they can also delineate the internal individual relationship between the spirit of radicalism, modernism, and chaos and ‘What Is’, as well as one’s likely relationship to ‘the Group’ and response to authority. I have the trine natally, with Uranus ruling my Ascendant and Saturn my 12th (Whole Sign)–and certainly, I’ve seen the flow of unconscious (and sometimes Cosmic) material into my interface with the rest of the world–and it’s here we may note that Saturn is ancient ruler of Aquarius, drawing the two, no matter how disparate they seem, as much more alike than we may realize–for what happens to the revolutionary, once the revolution is over? As the Sun enters Virgo we’re likely to turn a critical eye on ourselves, others, and/ or our environment; the funny thing is, though we’ll have a helluva time finding common ground in relationships, with a little reflection we’ll know instinctively what actually needs to be corrected (in ourselves and our environment), what needs to ‘line up’, and what’s just a distraction produced by a restless imagination. We’ll also have the chance to see how well-meshed our empowerment urges and our real-life power situation truly are–and if we see a big gap, we are likely to experience which ever one we are most alienated from manifest as another person–so, we may have to deal with someone in authority, someone with whom we must negotiate, someone who takes a parental stance with us, or someone who feels slighted and so insists on exerting her power over us–whether it makes sense or not. Keep reactivity to a minimum, observe what’s outside you (because that’s either something you’re disowning or a warning of a direction you may be headed) and consider how that can be incorporated in a positive way. Today’s word image is a young man with a large tattoo of a lion that covers his right arm and shoulder. The Sun may have vacated Leo, but Mercury, the North Node, and Pallas are still there. That suggests our thinking, our idea of which way we want to be headed in life, and what’s wise, smart, or practical are somehow lagging behind the times, and the tattoo of the image is associated with the right side, the active, doing energy–so this may be about looking at what we can do to bring our own efforts and the way we see them ‘up to date’–that is, taking them beyond the highly personal viewpoint of Leo to a more objective Virgoan assessment.

Today’s word image is actually two images, one for some people, one for the rest, and it’s up to you to know which applies to you. 1) going from a walk to a run. This implies you are ‘picking up speed’ in some area–and this may require both more careful attention, and an awareness that things will be moving by a lot quicker than previously. There’s also an idea of energy expenditure, and how long this pace can be sustained. 2) many shades of green. Does this represent something brand new in the life, is it emblematic of health and growth, is it pointing toward some area where you are ‘green’ and in need of instruction or seasoning, or does it suggest envy or jealousy, yours of someone else or someone else’s of you? In any case, something ‘green’ needs tending, whether that is nurturing or pulling it up by the roots. Do your best in telling the two options apart.

The headline says it all, though we encounter this effect in many forms: our wounds make us turn away from what we would do better to attend to, to face, to meet head-on; our outlook, even our identity, urges us to ignore the warnings our instincts are shouting at us; and what we value (including some relationships) may cost us, health-wise. What we can be sure of, and even profit from, are those matters that serve ambition fulfillment or that address our desires. So, that’s not such a bad compensation for an otherwise rough day, is it? What keeps the Jupiter-Neptune trine perfecting today from presenting a mass delusion, or manifesting as hopelessly confusing or misleading information, fantasy, or deception run amok? It’s that lovely parallel of Venus to Neptune; it keeps our focus on what we value, on what matters, on what’s worthy, to us–and that means optimism plus ideals and dreams creates a chance to believe it, and so see it. To make the most of this aspect takes a depth of faith few of us have, but that’s not necessarily a negative thing; without a healthy skepticism we’d end up in an endless string of victimizing situations. Today, though, we can lay that skepticism aside, as long as we have two other faculties tuned up and on point: our sense of what’s wise (which is also what’s healthy, big clue there!) and our instincts. It may feel like the calm before the storm–you look around and see an abnormally still landscape of the time stream at rest–and the moment resonates (and lasts!) like the reverberation of a struck tuning fork. Wherever you find yourself mentally at this time is setting the tone (and initiating a turn of the wheel) for the coming period for Self-expression, the power situation, health/ relationship with Nature, and with what you’ll get and give. One of those times we tend to move through almost coma-like, with both heightened sensitivities and a kind of obliviousness existing all at once, where tracks for the future are laid down–so be as conscious as possible, especially of the potential implications of what you choose, do, and fail to do (No new aspects perfect on Friday, followed by Mercury’s station direct on Saturday, when he noviles Ceres and sextiles Venus)

Word image for these two days is a CEO who may lose control over his company because of his indiscreet tweets. That fits so many situations right now, doesn’t it? Err on the side of restraint when it comes to communications, and in particular, be aware that what you’re putting out now (and thinking, and saying, and focusing on) is, as noted above, building what’s to come.

It’s a day that feels like we’ll be called to compromise, adjust, modify, or where circumstances presented will be just a tad uncomfortable–and yet, what we need to remember, is that these scenarios 1) are direct reflections of our own thinking, and 2) allow us to clarify and make ‘statements’ (by our actions and choices) about what our highest values and priorities really are. Changes made now may not be very smart, or very practical, but they do say something about our desires, what we’re building, where we’re headed. We make it crystal clear to what and to whom we’re truly dedicated, and others do the same–so we see their priorities, their genuine feelings, as well. Be prepared–there may be a shock or two delivered, as we realize our own actual commitments, and/ or get a big reveal on what those around us really honor–in any case, we ‘get the message’, and it alters things, somehow (Sun trine Vesta and parallel Mercury, Pluto qnx Pallas, Juno qnx Zeus)

Today’s word image is a sea lion with human eyes. There is some Leo-themed subject (or Leo person you know) that needs to be re-considered in a humanistic light–that is, re-assessed using both a more objective and more understanding emotion-friendly) lens.

I’ve gotten a large number of service requests lately (thank you!) where I’ve notified the individuals of acceptance but have not been paid, or where I’ve received a request, answered, and am holding a spot but have not been notified as to whether the individual wants the report or not. If you’ve been given a ‘pay by’ date, this does not apply to you. With a little effort (for we may resist, telling ourselves that putting aside pre-conceptions is risky, even unhealthy), today we can avoid the usual reactive pitfalls of relationships, those wounds we harbor and then speak or act from without thinking. We can, at least for a time, put reactive bad habits aside. Instead we’ve got a chance to divorce interaction from our sense of hurt or distress, and so see the relationship for what it really is. This also means the way we choose to act will be entirely under our conscious control–so be ready to embrace responsibility more completely than ever before. Would you describe the prevailing atmosphere as post-eclipse ennui, or is it more of an existential dread thing? Asking for a friend. I’m joking, but as they say, within every joke is at least a kernel of truth–or why else would we laugh? It’s that jolt of recognizing reality and its absurdities that creates the impact. I think recently, and today, the 13th, in particular, we’re really feeling that Fist of God, with base of Juno square Pallas, apex Saturn. That brings all the tension between our empowerment needs (which include the need to feel like we’re having an impact, like what we say and do really matters) and what’s wise, smart, or practical, to the surface–and what do we get when we resolve that tension? Reality, with a big ‘R’! So, current unrest is all about seeing the state of our own effectiveness (and especially the respect we do or don’t receive), and what is the wise way to address it (as opposed to a way completely dictated by emotion, or the reactive nature–which method is bound to be labeled ‘disaster’). Keep a cool head, show others the respect and consideration you would like to be shown, and know that right now dealing well with our environment and our relationships is entirely up to us–it’s a ‘choice to see’–requiring us to observe, register, respond to, and deal with what is, indisputably, right there before us–and so shape and create Reality as consciously as we possibly can. This config dissolves by the 16th, so won’t last too much longer.

When considering our own personal trajectory in life, when trying to measure that thing we call ‘progress’, we might think of the way theoretical physicist Werner Heisenberg put it: he stated that the more sure we are of where a particle/ object/ person is, the less certain we can be of that particle/ object/ or person’s velocity (speed of movement). When we are very sure of our position, it may actually feel that time has slowed or stopped; we know where we are, and it seems like things will never change. On the other hand, if our life is in tumult, it may feel as if we are hurtling into the unknown; things change far too quickly, and we are hard pressed to adjust.

Undoubtedly, what we want is to feel we are growing and evolving, and it’s true we can’t get to our destination without first knowing from where we’re starting; but, we can be too focused on pinpointing our position, on constantly measuring where we are, looking for the most minute signs of progress, and so essentially, using our energy to stand still–and it logically follows that the more we concentrate on dissecting our current status, the less energy we have available to move ourselves and our goals forward. We must cultivate an awareness in balance, a knowing of where we stand at the same time we are putting our core energy into manifesting our expressions in the world in intended forms.

Is it ever appropriate to be, with all respect to Heisenberg, very very certain of our position, and so very uncertain of our movement or progress? Yes, the Dark Night of the Soul is one such time, as is any hard Pluto transit, or any transit of Neptune, to the personals of the chart or to the Ascendant (Sun, Moon, Merc, Venus, Mars, the asteroids, and sometimes Jupiter, depending mostly on what he rules natally); Saturn hard to the Sun may also call for such intense Self-assessment, and Uranus transits can bring the need up suddenly, with the advent of an accident or shock, or the sudden ‘modernization’ of our world, and the transiting Moon touching our Pluto or Ascendant ruler or Sun can bring such moments, though briefly (with Secondary Progressions to or from the Moon providing an extended experience like this). There are points when we would be wise to turn all our attention inward, to assessing our place and our relationship to our world; the trick is knowing when this is appropriate, and when it is simply Self-indulgent.

If astrology tells us anything, it’s that we are meant to live within cycles, exploiting energies at the correct time in order to receive the most benefit; this is one of those times. With Mercury currently retrograde, we are gifted with the ability to process feeling and intuition more easily than when the Trickster is direct. It’s a time to get the mind out of the way, to listen to the Soul and answer its need for beauty, relationship sustenance, and to fine tune one’s association with what one values, including one’s products that carry value for others, and in doing so, we’ll find out a great deal concerning what, and who, we care about.
