‘Fighting Forms’ By Franz Marc 1914 {{PD}}

The 24th is a Good Day To . . . remain aware of the dazzling and very sudden power moves we may both observe and actually encounter and so have to deal with directly. We’re primed to flex our own muscles, to make our own choices, to name our own fate, but there are a few things we’ll need to take into account in an atmosphere where everyone feels that way: 1) we’ll just naturally put all our personal authority behind having our way and expressing our Will, but we shouldn’t underestimate the potential impact of the accident, the unusual, or the serendipitous. 2) thinking itself runs along healthy lines, and that predisposes us to use good judgement. 3) we can gain if we can go with the flow, rather than being distracted by some very prominent attempts to convince us ‘it’ can’t be done, or that there aren’t any opportunities for us there. 4) flexibility in thought is a good thing, while pessimism, gullibility, and anger-as-fuel are not.

A Good Day To . . . 23 May 2020 Act Big

‘Twittering Birds’ By Paul Klee 1922 {{PD}}

The 23rd is a Good Day To . . . act with big gestures, with enormous confidence, making sweeping statements about who you are, but all aligned with the facts of the matter, and done with an eye to anticipating what you have that’s new to offer, and what might sneak up on you and throw a monkey wrench into the works. Co-ordination, especially among your thoughts, the philosophies and beliefs that are the underpinnings of your choices, and the actions you take, is what makes for success today. Don’t exaggerate your actual ‘muscle power’, what you can and can’t handle–overdoing will only undermine what you hope to achieve–and examine the sudden idea or spontaneous thought against what you know to be true–that’s the only way to know if it’s worth pursuing.

‘Le jardin des Tuileries en automne (The Tuileries in Autumn)’ By Paul de Castro 1921 {{PD}}

The New Moon perfects at 2 Gemini 04 at 10:37 AM PDT on the 22nd and makes just a few close aspects; if we stretch a little, what we get is an Air Grand Trine with arms of Juno in Libra and Saturn-Pallas Aquarius with the conjunction of Sun and Moon making this GT temporary but potent. What’s clear is that we have an opportunity to achieve mental balance, to find a harmonious relationship between how we intellectualize the real world, how we see our own power or lack within it, and the role our relationships play in the actual empowerment equation. What forms here tests our capacity for practicality and calls forth our skills, specifically requiring us to collaborate or otherwise draw on our network of contacts in order to achieve effective mental balance–that is, an effective way of processing and expressing ourselves in the world.

If this New Moon could talk, it might make these statements: cooperation facilitates getting what you want and opens avenues to Self-expression; what we think of the physical and material is as important as what those material circumstances actually are; what’s solid, real, and possibly seen as a barrier is in actuality offering you a receptacle that will give shape to your mental energy as it takes physical form. The sooner you see that Saturnian walls, restrictions, and rules don’t deny nearly as much as they show you practical parameters to enhance and define creative energy expressed through skills, the more quickly you’ll be able to make a reality of the new ways of thinking and networking the New Moon brings.

‘Music in the Tuileries’ By Édouard Manet 1862 {{PD}}

The Sabian for the New Moon is, ‘The Garden Of The Tuileries In Paris’. The Tuileries are an expression of the human Saturnian urge to order, contain, and capture as it applies to Nature herself. This image tells us that if we cooperate and collaborate, by recognizing the true inclinations of the energies we seek to mold, we can create something that has the best elements of humanity’s interventions and Nature’s spontaneous (but in its own way planned) growth, outreach, and expression. And how is this achieved? By finding the balance between control and growth. The Tuileries are an example of the longevity creations with this kind of balance can attain, and encourages the idea of peaceful co-habitation in any number of ways.

Combine this New Moon energy with the other energies of the 22nd to successfully shape and guide yourself over the coming two weeks.

‘Promise of Spring’ By Lawrence Alma-Tadema 1890 {{PD}}

The 22nd is a Good Day To . . . vow to change ourselves, rather than demanding (or hoping for, or wishing for, or praying for) the world to change. Some of us may stick with the delusion that we definitely know how things should be, and we will indignantly wait for everyone and everything else to see our disapproval and snap into line, while the rest of us will see the benefit in recognizing reality as it is, and adjusting our expectations accordingly. It’s not a time for head-in-the-sand, magical thinking, and yet you and I both have seen that embraced as a lifestyle by plenty of people lately; that stance guarantees dreams denied, while to see what is and work from there is to make significant headway toward ambition and desire fulfillment, and will spark that most illusive of feelings, genuine happiness.

‘The Fitting’ By Mary Cassatt {{PD}}

The 21st is a Good Day To . . . make it all about tailoring actions, choices, skill expression, and ‘I Am’ statements in ways that will add to empowerment. That probably means asserting yourself but not in a way that alienates others. Not glamorous, but can be super-productive if you can get the hang of it, and one thing’s certain: if you don’t act or choose, you’ll be left in limbo.

Sorry this is a wee bit late getting posted. It was actually done two days ago, but for the past 48 hours+ I’d been unable to upload a picture through WordPress. It finally worked, though in future I might just schedule them to post on time, with or without an illustration. Have a lovely Wednesday!

The 20th is a Good Day To . . . make changes along very specific lines. Taking action to eliminate what needs eliminating, to make sweeping and permanent changes within yourself (not aesthetically/ physically, though), and to innovate, invent, or otherwise break away from norms, are all favored. It’s tricky, however: be open to the spontaneous and the brainstorm, but don’t count on your usual taste level (Venus is retro, after all) or creative channels to bear fruit–they’re more likely to lead you down a rabbit hole–and anything to do with ambition fulfillment or responding to messages from others (or getting your own message across) will likely be akin to hitting your head against a brick wall–it hurts you and the wall goes nowhere! Something to keep in mind: the full, unvarnished facts will make you powerful–now have the courage to see the reality picture as it really is, and go from there.

‘Dame in Roth (Woman in Red)’ By Otto Friedrich 1904 {{PD}}

That trip should be down memory lane, experienced from your armchair, bed-nest, or other comfortable perch, and should involve two things: a calm and fearless review of (and appreciation of) ‘mistakes’ for what they taught us, and a re-visit to the happy and nostalgia-inducing past. Good memories and bad, with emphasis on the way the past has made us who we are today, but all of it done with gratitude for the path we’ve been on. Nothing else is required of you today.

Your Weekend 15-18 May 2020 Thoughts Matter

On the 15th ‘right’ thinking can lead to healing and can set you on a very positive course forward; the question is, what constitutes ‘right thinking’? Imaginative ways of sharing information, a willingness to connect with others over a common idea or goal, and becoming more informed yourself all qualify. And the result is that by the 16th we’ve come up with some clear choices and really effective ways to take action, inspired by a burgeoning awareness of precisely what power we hold, and what we can do to enhance our own agency. One mistake we might make is to believe we can ‘buy’ health or affection–or that only those who are flawless can attract love or money, or deserve healing. I’m here to tell you those ideas are both needlessly depressing and wrong-headed. Do take care with expressing yourself, though, as words are much more powerful at this point than we might anticipate–and so may become weapons, or at least highly destructive, even (and maybe especially) if we don’t mean them to–and then there’s the possibility we ‘hypnotize’ ourselves into believing something with no basis in reality

The indicators on the 17th suggest that we may see opportunity and think optimistically–and yet find ourselves at odds with the social order overall or with the facts as we know them at present. We need to know that though the mental faculties are ‘healthy’, thinking may be too easily influenced by things we’ve actively chosen to ignore–thus setting up negative outcomes, should we be unwilling to consider the way the unexpected has intruded into our plans, should we be unwilling to acknowledge we don’t know everything, and should we be unwilling to trust our instincts. Be willing, tick all those boxes, and you’ll likely see today and its events as highly fortuitous, whether that brings rewards from your own efforts or ‘luck’ in one of her many guises.

The 18th we may refuse to recognize boundaries, rules, and restrictions, may reject reality or the need to make real, concerted effort, and thereby crash and burn. The key to success today is an unflinching acceptance of things as they actually are, and an open-eyed willingness to do something about current circumstances.

Have a lovely weekend, all!

A Good Day To . . . 14 May 2020 Jupiter Retrogrades

13 Wednesday May 2020

astrology, Good Day To . . ., Jupiter retrograde, The Astro Essence

Horses, and the riding lifestyle, are quintessentially Jupiterian. ‘Visiting the Horses’ By Adolf Heinrich-Hansen, created by 1925 {{PD}}

What happens when Jupiter retrogrades? Usually, we feel it, as something we saw with hope, optimism, and faith is turned on its head, revealed to conflict with the facts, or withdrawn and offered to someone else! De-flation is the typical reaction to the turnaround point, and even if there’s no specific loss, we are likely to feel a little less buoyant; we may have the sense that something that was a resource no longer is, although we may not be able to put our finger on just what is missing right away.

That’s no fun, right? What we need to remember is that later in Jupiter’s retro cycle we’ll find out why what has disappeared went away, and nine times out of ten, part of our discovery is that we never really had a chance at it in the first place. Jupiter direct had pumped up our expectations, all out of proportion to our actual odds of ‘winning’. Don’t be disgruntled–it’s part of the happy behemoth’s job to endow us with optimism and a willingness to reach out for more; it’s not Jupiter’s fault if we find our return to reality a little rough.

This time the retreat comes as Jupiter is late in Capricorn, post his renowned meeting with Pluto, and so setting up a second pass during the retro period at the planet of change, this one scheduled for late June-early July. What’s withdrawn may have seemed solid, something we could rely on, or something we thought would be ours because we’d worked hard or followed the rules–so doubly depressing, when something that seemed like such a sure thing just isn’t.

Jupiter turns around just before completing a trine to Sedna. That suggests at least some of what we’ll experience during the retro period will involve questioning or not feeling we can rely on our own instincts and the still, small voice within–and also that we come close to seeing what’s in our blind spot, but aren’t quite able to accurately identify it. That comes at another point, so that what comes forward in this portion of the Jupiter cycle likely doesn’t tell us much about what everyone else can see but that we’re missing.

It’s also likely that, with time, we’ll see that what Jupiter has handed us was, certainly, denial of something, and yet, it also brings an opportunity to go in another direction. With hindsight and the passage of time we usually see that life would’ve been quite different if we’d gotten what we were expecting–and yet, we have to see that we wouldn’t have learned what we’ve learned, discovered what we’ve discovered, or gained the faith and confidence that we have if we’d not been turned in a new direction upon the disappointment Jupiter delivered. The benefits are always there–we just need practice seeing them.

The atmosphere overall for today, aside from Jupiter’s shift, involves feeling smart, empowered, and powerful–so may make what Jupiter hands us even harder to take–but denial of what we want has the benefit of helping us avoid some power struggle we almost certainly would’ve lost. So, apply efforts to what’s under our control (and for which we need no assistance or permission), and know that we could’ve wasted our energy in a tussle, if not for awareness of where our attention is best expended today.

11-13 May 2020 Hazardous to Your Health

astrology, My Daily Astrology Diary, The Astro Essence, Venus Retrograde

‘Rokeby Venus’ By Diego Velázquez 1644 {{PD}}

Now we stand in the shadow cast over our reality by Saturn’s retrograde on the 10th, and we likely feel the need to reassess our approach and our standing according to the new conditions we see around us. Are you a ‘suddenly halted’ Saturn responder, or an ‘obstacles removed’ kind of Saturn person? The answer to that will tell you whether this period is a ‘go forward with all those stalled projects’ time, or a ‘take a Zen approach and accept stalls as delays meant to turn your attention elsewhere’ time.

The 11th sees some serious questions around power and values answered, specifically as they are addressed through ambitions, desires, and the array of personal responsibilities each of us has. Though we may feel disempowered, may feel that thoughts don’t match actions, we need to know that off-the-cuff choices and efforts will make more issues than they address–so avoid the spontaneous, if possible. Look in the dark corners for the information that is vital to making good choices (and of course, we didn’t know that before–that’s why we put it in a dark corner!)–and then go forward on the 12th, in all areas except purely creative ones. New impulses and ideas need to be noted, but not yet instituted–and it’s clear why when we consider that the 12th also has Venus turnaround in apparent retrograde.

This retro occurs every 18 months and institutes a short (approx. 6 week) period when we may see any or all of these effects: we re-visit an issue or Venusian-themed subject that was active 8 years ago, the last time Venus retrograded at roughly this point in the natal scenario. Things may pick up as if no time has passed, or we may see the same material re-emerge in different form. There’s a potential for quite abruptly seeing relationships, financial, and aesthetic matters in different terms; perceptions in these areas are temporarily distorted, making us more inclined to be adventurous, to stray from our normal preferences–and sometimes to make life changing choices. Our tastes don’t run in their usual channels. With any permanent change in those areas you consider making during the retro, put off the actual step until after Venus goes direct. The difference in choices should look something like this: henna tattoos–Yes! Real ink–No! Dating someone you might’ve typically turned down–Yes! Getting married spontaneously–No!

And this is all shaped by where in the natal chart this Venus retro occurs for you. Re-visited subjects will be found connected to the House where the retro falls (and possibly will involve Venusian matters or matters Venus rules or is otherwise involved with via chart rulerships), and they’ll carry the tone of the sign in which the retro occurs, in this case Gemini. That could mean the mind takes center stage, overruling aesthetic judgments and giving you lots of reasons why what the heart yearns toward isn’t the logical (or tidy, or justifiable) choice. Venus retrograde withdraws our innate taste standards, preferences, and ‘what we love’ and respond to, replacing it in this instance with what our minds, or the arguments of others, tell us we should love.

Interesting to note that on the 12th, unlike through the rest of Venus’ turnaround, the mind will be sharp, reality-oriented, and unusually smart, stable, and reliable. If you’re going to listen to the mind alone during the Venus retro, this is the day to do so–after that, remind yourself that nothing is done by thought alone, and thoughts without heart don’t tell the whole story.

On the 13th we may not understand how truly destructive or deluded our choices are, especially those around matters of health. What feels like deep thinking is really hyper-pessimistic. Let it go, for now, and stay with what you already know and practice.

Have a great week!
