‘In the Library’ A. Toulmouche 1872 {{PD-Art}}

Cancer Full Moon 15 January 2014 at 25 Cancer 58 at 8:52 PM PST: Caring for Power

The Sabian is, ‘Guests Are Reading In The Library Of A Luxurious Home’ This suggests a few things: that we are in the midst of learning something or being informed by what’s going on—pay attention; that our circumstances are really very good, and that we may have downplayed them or may be unappreciative; and that we are currently lacking in a conscious awareness that we are, in a way, guests here on Earth, with all the temporary enjoyment, responsibilities, and need for good conduct being a guest entails. The Sun, which we always look to as a source of Moon-light, is, ‘A Nature Spirit Dancing In The Iridescent Mist Of A Waterfall’ Ahh, Ceres again! With the Full Moon we are being given a chance to experience our own spirits as part of Nature, guests on the Earth, enjoying the beauty and sustenance of a cool mist (for who has been in the lee of a waterfall and not felt replenished by Mother Earth?) and it is only our preoccupation with the material and the spiritually insignificant that keeps us from thoroughly experiencing it as our daily reality. That may be at the heart of the FM revelations—that power we will end up caring for will, for most of us, center in the experience of being alive and fully appreciative of this, though for a few, it will be all about worldly power—when you encounter one of them, just step aside, and go on your way.

13 January–today is the day to delve into the mystery that is us—sounds a little ridiculous, right? But it truly is a good day for Self-inspection, the kind that considers all the deepest feelings and beliefs that move us and direct our choices and even our thoughts. Take this tack and you will discover some things, and put a few others that have been bothering you to rest; ignore the need to reflect on your own motivations and you’ll likely find yourself zoning out, as anything even close to attentive will require that willingness to peer into the dark (Sun trine Sedna)

This is from the ECLIPSE Weekly/ Daily, the latter of which includes an hour-by-hour assessment of Lunar aspects and the Daily Image. To order or see the current issue, click here–

‘Still-Life with Skull’ Philippe de Champaigne 17th century {{PD}}

This is from Thursday’s new ECLIPSE; to order, go here, and get in on the next free lesson, on Rising Signs, coming out later this month! The new issue will be available evening of the 9th Pacific time.

When we think of the natal horoscope as a kind of map of the Soul’s intentions during this lifetime, we see how, in a very real but also totally symbolic way, everything revolves around the Sun, the symbol of the Soul’s intent within the chart. I know we come back to this question over and over, but it’s so vital to understanding the natal chart, and to finding nuances of meaning that help illuminate why there are clear differences among individuals who are all born under the same Sun sign. We can break down a sign even more than its usual 30-degree span using ancient measurements called decans. The decans originated as a kind of calendar that allowed people to keep track of the apparent motion of the heavens, one day to the next; the markers used were various stars or star groups as they rose and set. With decans, each sign is divided into thirds, with each section influenced by correlation to the other zodiacal signs in the same element, so that, for example, Aries is divided into 10 degree sections, with the first 10 ruled by Aries itself, so that the influence is of the nature of Aries’ ruler, Mars. The second 10 corresponds to the next Fire sign in the zodiac, Leo, so that the decan influence is the Sun, and the 3rd is of course corresponding to Sagittarius, and so influenced by Jupiter. The initial decan of each sign is ruled by itself, so that the ruler of the 1st decan is always also the ruler of the sign. Another example: Leo, also a Fire sign like Aries, has a 1st decan ruled by the Sun (corresponding to Leo itself), then a 2nd decan ruled by Jupiter (as the next Fire sign after Leo is Sagittarius), and a 3rd decan influenced by Mars (for Aries, the Fire sign that comes after Sag, as we move around the zodiacal ‘circle’).

‘The Bullfight’ Edouard Manet c1866 {{PD-Art}}

8 January It’s a moment of Truth, the kind where we find out what the true reach of our power is, and how much of our status and Self-image is based in reality, how much in illusion. Mind you, illusion can mean untruth or deception, but it can also mean a projection that only enhances the reputation, despite the nebulous source of the image. We are spurred to action, with the material effects entirely dependent on that illusion-empowerment ratio. Too, if we need to convince someone we’ve got the clout or cojones, we can—as long as we believe we do! (Perfecting today: Neptune conjunct Juno, Mars square Jupiter, Mercury square Ceres, semi-square Chiron, Earth sesquiquadrate Neptune-Juno)

Here’s a fine sleeve upon which to display hearts and other paraphernalia ‘A Man With a Quilted Sleeve’ Titian c1515 {{PD-Art}}

From the current ECLIPSE:

7 January Oh, we wear our values, loves, wants, and thoughts on our sleeves today, and want to or not, we communicate everything that we care about, but no matter the subject, others will tend to see our values and investments mostly in material terms (thanks to Merc and Venus both in Capricorn and Sedna in Taurus). That means we may be grossly misunderstood, taken to be much more materialistic than we are, or seen as choosing money over love, when we believe we are saying the opposite! Expect assessments of your values to be more about the speaker than about you; the trick here is to know yourself well enough that others’ judgments won’t sway you from your natural course.

St Barbara by Jan van Eyck 1437 {{PD-Art}}

St Barbara by Jan van Eyck 1437 {{PD-Art}}

6 January Remember those great ideas from yesterday? Today is the day to make plans to implement them, to gain financing and the power to materialize them, and to measure those ambitions against the trajectory of the life as well as their fitness to be a part of the Soul’s overall purpose. We have a keen understanding of power and its costs and worth today, and can understand how to best approach its use on our own and with others; as well, our current reality tells us exactly what we must do to make things work. Relationships can be difficult, if the power balance is off, or one or the other person either oversteps bounds or feels frustrated in expression, though in general a very effective foundation can be laid at this point upon which to build future accomplishments. Taoist Immortals Celebrating Longevity' Tomioka Tessai 1923 {{PD-Japan-oldphoto}}

Taoist Immortals Celebrating Longevity’ Tomioka Tessai 1923 {{PD-Japan-oldphoto}}

Celebrating the beginning of our 5th year, with this first issue of 2014! We talk about Moments with Strangers (oh!), The Ascendant in the Whole Sign system, take a peek at books and movies (including ‘Upstream Color’ and ‘Stoker’), briefly comment on Mars retro, and get the Forecast for the coming week! Order here, at less than $7 per month, which includes the Weekly, the Daily (with a complete aspect-by-aspect Lunar forecast and the Daily Image), as well as free and low cost lessons and services–what are you waiting for?

And for tomorrow, the 3rd: our own thoughts may be the source of so much internal discord; we are at odds with our own desires and ambitions, and can’t help but think our empowerment options are either ineffective or some kind of trap! The Aquarian Moon isn’t helping, with its cool mindset that so easily questions our wants, our goals, our values, and our sense of personal power and authority in our own lives (by Air trine to Zeus, Vesta, and Ceres in Libra, which only encourages us to look to others for reassurance). Funny, then, that if we can get out of our own heads for a minute, we will find a great big ol’ spotlight shining on the wise thing, the smart thing, the answer we’re looking for, right out in the open, there for the taking. (Mercury semi-square Juno, square Zeus, Sun trine Pallas)

'Short Stay' by Laurits Andersen Ring 1908 {{PD-Art}}

‘Short Stay’ by Laurits Andersen Ring 1908 {{PD-Art}}

1 January 2014 Wow—talk to others, talk to anybody, talk to yourself, or read, listen to programs or music, eavesdrop, whatever—communication will be a fount of wisdom today. You’ll learn a great deal, some of it useful, some of it merely awesome in its insight. As well, it will be very helpful dealing with the power structure glimpsed clearly today; we can see what we’re dealing with, see how to get our own status a lift, and will locate the knowledge and the skills to handle it all successfully. If we want it, we can put ourselves onto the path of greater power at this point—the appropriateness of this quest will rely on how you define power. (Mercury trine Pallas, Sun conjunct Pluto)

If you haven’t already, scroll down to see the previous post on the New Year’s New Moon–and order here, to receive it all in your email daily! Happy New Year to All!

The New Moon in Capricorn occurs at 3:14 AM PST on the 1st at 10 Cap 57

The Cappy New Moon forms a tidy Cardinal Grand Cross with Uranus, Earth, and Mars, and is itself conjunct Pluto and Mercury, and also sextiles Chiron and trines Pallas. We typically tense for a lot of action with such a configuration, especially when the ambulance crew (Chiron) is standing by and the Moon and Sun have hooked up with a major power player (Pluto). What I think we end up with, though, is more of a denouement, a drawing together of all the changes and revelations of those participants in the repeated slow-moving squares into a coherent statement of our changed circumstances. Rather than energies that act as bombs or bullies, we instead see an accounting, a gathering, of all that has come before, particularly from the squares of Uranus and Pluto, and we finally see the way these changes have given us power, skills, and wisdom. Yes! That’s what is left, after all the bullsh*t is distilled out: a scenario of grace and beauty is born based on our new (and certainly improved) power stance.

Some of you may say, ‘Wait a minute—I haven’t received any power! Nothing’s changed for me”—or it’s changed in negative ways, with opportunities deteriorating, with unexpected smackdowns and lots of anger, prompting erratic, often emotionally desperate, action (cue Chiron). Healing and claiming your power would’ve been the result, if you hadn’t gotten sidetracked, probably by anger or a need to rebel. Don’t worry, it happens to us all at some point—and it’s never too late to get yourself together. This Grand Cross offers an excellent chance to accelerate the lesson, to act up and heal, using the power you do have to become a dynamic Being. We’re likely to see this magnified ability in the House of the natal chart where the NM falls, as well as secondarily in the other Houses that hold the Cardinals (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn).

The Sabian for the New Moon is ‘A Large Group Of Pheasants On A Private Estate’. This is a symbol indicating the necessity of finding our tribe. It’s ‘birds of a feather’ quite literally, and the private estate describes that little portion of the world in which we are immersed, well-versed, and active. If you haven’t yet found your tribe, don’t despair—you will—just keep moving toward your dreams (oh my, I’m sounding like a bad inspirational speaker!) and practicing all those pastimes that define you, because it’s in pursuing your fulfillment that you meet everyone else who’s taking the same road.
