Lunar Eclipse, Moon in Sagittarius, My Daily Astrology Diary, The Astro Essence

With this eclipse we will experience the pre-verbal power of our own nature. Fearnley c.1830 {{PD-Art}}

1:13 PM PDT of the 15th is the Lunar eclipse at 24 Sagittarius 23, with the Sun/ Earth-Moon axis conjunct the Nodal axis (Earth and Moon conjunct the North Node) and a T-square formed to the asteroid Ceres (at 26 Pisces 17), symbol of Mother Nature, of natural power and authority, of agriculture and growing things, of negotiation, and of mothering/ nurturing, and Mars is quincunx the Full Moon/ Earth conjunction, as is the asteroid Sedna, indicator of our ‘blind spot.’

The aspect picture is unusual in that we have a culmination that essentially challenges us to push forward with even more, exceptional energy that is rife with a sense of authority (Ceres), that requires us to modify our approach, actions, and efforts (the Mars quincunx), that attempts to nurture what’s important (Ceres), but that is fundamentally lacking in consciousness of the Self (the Sedna effect on Moon–the unconscious and the feelings–and the Sun–the identity)–a very tough aspect picture indeed. So, we will feel the push and pressure to put ourselves forward, to claim authority, to enact our Will, and yet will be without something so vital that it is literally the first differentiation we make as living beings; we experience our first Self-consciousness, our initial sense of ‘I,’ when we realize that Mommy/the  maternal figure is actually a separate Being from ourselves–and it is the moment before this realization that we will re-experience with this Full Moon eclipse.

This means the eclipse opens for us a kind of view into our primordial consciousness–and because this is pre-verbal, essentially experienced through feeling and sensation, the most likely funnel will be the Ceres placement, as it sits in the Pisces abiogenesis. Through our relationship to Mother Nature (so, through our senses, perceptions, and bodies, as well as interaction with the natural world), through a circumstance of negotiation (likely where emotions, rather than reasoning, should drive the discussion), through the act of nurturing or mothering or being mothered, or through dealing with our own or another’s given authority (the kind that a parent has over a child, for instance), we will meet the eclipse essence. The urge to affect the life direction (the Nodal contact) melds with the Will, the ‘I am,’ and the basic desire nature (“I want!”) and yet consciousness of the Self is not apparent–and we will be carried on a tide of feeling, sensation, and perception just as we were in early infancy!

That does not mean our responses and perceptions will be immature; rather, they will be fully felt in a way that leaves no room for verbally-framed thought– the desire to act, driven by feeling but lacking a root in a strong identity or thought-consciousness, will be the fundamental energy available.

Thomas Cole 'The Architect's Dream' 1840 {{PD-Art}}

Solar eclipse occurs at 2:02 PM PDT at 11 Gemini 01. Using our usual 2 degree orb, we have only two aspects for this eclipse: trines to Saturn and h.Zeus. A Solar eclipse is, in a symbolic sense, a big, bright birth, where the intuition and emotional factor, for a short interval, blocks the Solar principle, which is all that’s open, conscious, and life-giving–but in the blocking is a symbolic absorption, and thus a powerful combination of the unconscious and intuitive with the conscious and worldly–and a new level of understanding is born.

With the Sun/ Moon conjunction we see a strong, positive relationship to time, constraint, form, reality, and what’s solid (Saturn) and we see the eclipse energy contacting the concepts of ambition and desire (h.Zeus)–this marries the ‘birth’ energy, ‘what is,’ and the push of goals and desires in a powerful three-way relationship, making for an eclipse that rides on a swell of highly perceptible and highly charged energy. In particular, the input of h.Zeus is one of desiring, asserting, and working to gain, and may be the ‘secret’ engine behind the Solar eclipse impetus.

We’ll bring into the reality only those things we’ve invested with a serious desire energy and in some sense released into the Collective. This is in part because 1) the h.Zeus involved is the transiting body, not the natal one, and 2) because an eclipse involves the current transiting Moon, symbol of the Collective unconscious and the emotion that is ‘stored’ in the Akashic Records (briefly, that’s an energy record of all that has ever been) where our ‘energy investment’ is recorded–and from which it will be manifested by the eclipse contact to Saturn. So, what comes must meet these conditions–and will be related directly to the natal House where the eclipse occurs.

The Sabian for the Solar Eclipse echoes what the planetary scheme already spelled out–with the important addition that this will occur in an area for each individual where we feel either at a disadvantage, or where we have been struggling for our personal independence, but where we are somewhat sophisticated. To begin something we’ve dreamed of, independent of others (or of previous restraints or restrictions), something we’ve been striving for and for which we’ve put energy, consciously or not, into the Collective–this is the essence of the Solar eclipse for June 2011 at a personal level.

My Daily Astrology Diary, Solar Eclipse

from Verne's 'Around the Moon' illus. by Bayard and de Neuville

The Partial Solar Eclipse occurs at 1:02 AM Pacific Standard Time on the 4th at 13 Capricorn 38. The Sabian Symbol is ‘An Ancient Bas-Relief Carved in Granite Remains a Witness to a Long-Forgotten Culture’ http://www.cafeastrology.com/sabiansymbols_degreemeanings.html  A New Moon is an inception point, a beginning, a seed, a birth–but this symbol is of something quite old, stately, a symbol of memory–very appropriate for Capricorn.

So what do we get when we bring the ancient and a seed point together in an eclipse? We get a power-seed, a point of origin that can knock our socks off since it has the authority of ancient knowledge, of things perhaps forgotten by the Collective consciously but still accessible through these moments that connect past and present via a corridor of memory energy that brings ‘then’ into contact with ‘now.’

The form it takes is through Art or expressive endeavors (the Bas-Relief) and tells a story or gives a message (the point of a Bas-Relief). This is, quite literally, carved in granite–meaning it is not subject to change–so we are looking at a message of timelessness and immutability. The most important part of the symbol, though, may be the way the Bas-Relief refers to a culture long passed into dust; this tells us that the message is something quite vital that may have been ‘lost’ before now, before the energy of this seed moment burst forth, giving us this cultural pearl.

The Lunar Eclipse is an opposition, and that means it falls across one of the House axes of your natal chart. This is an energy of change, an eclipse of current life circumstances in the involved Houses with a new and different energy, and it always brings forward the question, What will this mean to me? Below are a few possibilities; access your intuition in answering.

20 December 2010: Gemini Moon and Racing Minds + the Lunar Eclipse!

ECLIPSE magazine, Lunar Eclipse, Moon in Gemini, My Daily Astrology Diary

Lithograph, Library of Congress USA, 1895 {{PD}}

Published 10:19 PM PST 19 December

The Moon’s Gemini characteristics come through loud and clear through the 2 PM hour PST; it’s talk, it’s mental, it’s light, it’s a wee bit frenetic, it’s charming. Don’t over think ‘it’ at this time; just go with the Gemmy flow!

2:30 PM of the 20th PST the Moon quincunxes Ceres, and it becomes clear that adjustments must be made to what nature or authority requires. Don’t let this spoil your week–it’s necessary to acknowledge that some things must be honored, no matter how these disturb our best-laid plans!

Around 6 PM PST, Moon squares Jupiter, squares Juno, squares Uranus, effectively forming a T that funnels social, empowerment, and group or individual autonomy matters through the emotions and intuition. We can believe we’re sensing (about others, the group, or our own empowerment choices) what’s really just an emotional reaction to what we’re faced with–and with concurrent trines of the Moon to Neptune and Chiron, it’s easy to see how our own proclivities for accepting wishful thinking and/ or believing another’s deceptions could convince us that we’re on to some course that’s supported by intuitive perceptions. The best alternative in this instance may be to take a step back from our own racing minds and recognize that there are factors influencing us that we can’t deal with on a purely mental basis (Gemini) and that we are too prone to subtle and nefarious influences (Neptune/ Chiron) to settle any empowerment questions or inquiries about our group role at this time.

Total Lunar Eclipse 21 December 2010 12:13 AM PST 29 Gemini 20

The Sabian for the Moon/ Earth conjunction is, ‘A Parade of Bathing Beauties Before Large Beach Crowds’  As a symbol of Lunar promise (with an influence to last through to the next eclipse set in 6 months), it suggests attractive individuals showing their ‘stuff,’ so to speak, before the masses. In very straightforward terms, it promises an atmosphere where we are either one of the Beauties, drawing attention and receiving scrutiny as we show our assets (!) or we are part of the crowd, watching and assessing. The likelihood is that we will all take turns, sometimes being ‘on parade,’ sometimes merely observing. Since no real skill is involved in this image, what we must conclude is that it’s what we might call ‘God-given’ facets of our Beingness that are on display, things that are just part of who we are, and that are considered desirable by the social order in which we participate. Added to the Sun’s Sabian, ‘The Pope Blessing the Faithful,’ the message could be that purely physical/ material assets that are innate may pull the individual in a direction opposite to one that promises a reward within a hierarchy (a ‘religion’ as represented by the figure of the Pope) that measures not by the physical but by what it deems devotion (and this is the key, that the hierarchy wants to call the shots) to their version of the spiritual/ devotional–which makes the hierarchy almost anti-spiritual in its demands.

What’s offered here is the essence of the eclipse energy; the only way to see the full report on the Lunar Eclipse of the 21st is by getting your password to the private pages; it comes with every purchase of the Fall ECLIPSE http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/the-latest-new-fall-2010-eclipse/    (Sorry, the links aren’t lighting up-Merc retro? 😦  please copy and paste)                  ECLIPSE Readers: your password is listed in the Table of Contents of the magazine, with links to pages at right and above-–Thank you for your support!

11 July 2010: The Solar Eclipse, Your Invitation to the Party

10 Saturday Jul 2010

Moon in Cancer, My Weekend Astro Diary, Solar Eclipse, the Magazine

This Solar eclipse has an incredible assertive energy going on; it also sits at the midpoint of a trine that spells trouble; and a couple of aspects are slightly outside my strict-but-constantly-stretching boundaries ( and this may be where you start to wonder if I shouldn’t ditch the 2 degree rule altogether; in keeping the rule I’m very careful about what I consider to be an eclipse aspect, and avoid ‘kitchen sink’ syndrome).  As always, the variations are slight, and needed to see the complete eclipse picture.

The eclipse begins at 12:40 PM PDT on July 11th, as Sun and Moon conjunct at 19 Cancer 23. The assertive energies are found in the Sun/ Moon still valid conjunction to Juno–think of a power figure who gets what they want by offering nurture, or by calling on the ties they’ve already created, and this may  involve a sense of obligation, duty, or ‘I owe’–it’s the bargain this Sun/ Moon combo creates, and the sextile to Vesta/ Mars in Virgo says that there will be an accounting going on, likely of energy expended, and the one doing the counting will be prone to consider this expenditure sacred–and expect payback.

Our Sabian for the eclipse degree is ‘A Venetian Gondolier Giving a Serenade’ The gondolier is, of course, singing because it’s part of the sh0wmanship of his job; at bottom, he does a thing of beauty because he wants to get paid. That’s not to discount that he may love his role, that singing may be a joyous expression for him, and that his singing may be spontaneous, performed for any Soul within earshot. What it reminds us, though, is that life is about the flow and exchange of energy in all its forms, and that the roles we play (no matter how innate to our character or genuine to our Being) are played as part of a Universal agreement of exchange for mutual benefit–it’s a reminder that we must give what’s most true to our talents, and that we have an obligation to discover what those are. By implication there is also the idea that the farther we are from our best expression, the farther from that Universal ‘flow’ we are (and remember, flow goes both directions, not just toward you!)

Does this suggest that the hovering maternal (for this is the essence of caring) to whom we’re obligated is really the Universe? A wide quincunx of the eclipse to Ceres certainly supports this, and a sextile to Sedna further implies we just can’t see this–and by ‘this’ I mean both how closely we are woven into the fabric of the Cosmos, and how what we see as obligations may really be opportunities to bring, somehow, more of ourselves forward. It’s an invitation to the Universal party, the one we signed up for when we commited to being here. It may, in the end, be a call to be more genuine, to refuse to hide parts of ourselves (and we hide our talents as much as we hide what we may be ashamed of, because our abilities don’t agree with our tattered and Self-imposed, socially driven image of how we think we should be–and that amounts to rejecting ourselves, and so rejecting the flow that’s offered–and my answer to that is, who do we think we are, to judge ourselves so?)

This is a very positive eclipse pattern–so now you may be wondering about that trine I mentioned that spells trouble–and that is, the eclipse sits at the midpoint of the Sedna trine to Mars/ Vesta. This means both will be equally and strongly stimulated, and that implies we may not see (Sedna) how we may be prone to treat both our actions and our ego as sacred (Mars/ Vesta). It’s easy (the trine) to not see our own motives and aims–and the eclipse, which prompts us to action most genuine to ourselves, calls for that action to be in line with our talents and roles. A balancing act, to be sure–but one that must go forward, as the Cardinal placement of the eclipse insists we must act–and this influence will continue for six months, through to the next eclipse set.

More on the eclipse can be found here http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/new-eclipse-spring-2010/ Thanks!

Lunar Eclipse 26 June 2010: Partial Eclipse, Complete Transformation

25 Friday Jun 2010

eclipse, Lunar Eclipse

A partial Lunar eclipse in Capricorn begins at 4:30 AM PDT on the 26th at 4 Capricorn 46. I cover a couple of configurations active at the eclipse here http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/new-eclipse-spring-2010/ and this info concentrates in particular on the dynamics we can expect; here we’ll talk about the most arresting aspect of the eclipse, the Earth/ Moon/ Pluto line-up with only 41 minutes separation, along with the other aspects that fall into our 2 degree orb. This conclave in Capricorn is startling; how can we have a culmination (Full Moon) that is also either a wipe-out or an experience of total transformation?

If we think of it like this, it makes sense: bringing matters of the House axis across which this eclipse falls (and particularly in the House where the Moon/ Earth falls) to a moment of culmination, to a conclusion or point of determination where we can say, “This is what it is, this is what we have, this is how it ends,” will bring its own new material view/ view of reality, one that transforms the subject at hand into something utterly and entirely different. The conclusion of one event, progression, or situation births another–it rises like the phoenix from the ashes of what came before, and because of what came before we are prepared to see it in a whole new way.

The Sabian for this degree is: ‘Indians on the Warpath. While Some Men Row a Well-Filled Canoe, Others In It Perform a War Dance.’ This suggests that the eclipse brings about a very particular attitude, one that is so strongly felt that aggression (or at least unequivocal assertion) is the proposed course of action. This attitude is taken by people well-equipped to wage war on/ let their attitudes be known to others, and there is no hesitancy in letting everyone know that this is the intent–though you’ll notice, no ‘war’ is actually being engaged in; this is bluster, hype, threats, a cry of ‘look how serious we are!’–and that implies that the intent is really to transform the playing field, to change the way others regard us, to be taken seriously.

The other aspects that fall within our orb measurement that figure in to this are an opposition to the Moon by Mercury, and the eclipse axis plus Mercury and Pluto create a T-square with Jupiter in Aries. This gives us more hints about meaning: we really are trying to communicate something quite distinct about who we are (Mercury conjunct the Sun), and we are willing to exaggerate to get our message across (Jupiter). The point is to broadcast an image that makes ‘them’ take ‘us’ more seriously ; the point is not to engage in an actual war, only to threaten this kind of all-out effort, in which consequences cannot be anticipated and destruction of some kind is almost guaranteed. (Note that Merc and Jupiter are both slightly more than 2 degrees from aspect but as always, the chart must be assessed as a whole, with necessary leeway granted in order to make sense of the Big Picture).

The eclipse makes one other aspect, with Moon/ Earth/ Pluto sextile Pallas. This tells us something that may be rather surprising about this image of broadcast aggressive intent: it’s a smart thing to do. Our own wisdom prompts us to make this noise, to beat this particular drum in this particular way, and it’s good that we do. Part of gaining the respect of others is that we are considered skilled and worthy Beings capable of effecting our surroundings–each of us needs this kind of regard, and built in to it is a certain animal response: we do not respect those who don’t have an effect on things or on us, and this is not a matter of physicality so much as a matter of the energy of the spirit as it reaches out to the spirits of others. It is the respect of one living thing recognizing the spark in another, and it’s this impression we’re seeking to make.

Today’s Link: I couldn’t be more enthusiastic about the Self-development exercises offered by Kelly Beard http://karmictools.com/EnergyoftheMonth.html Her audio offerings in particular are outstanding; you will be impressed by the depth and detail of her work and enlightened on so many of the ways unused or misdirected energies may make themselves felt.  Please explore her world, and treat her generously–you’ll be glad you did!

Solar Eclipse Jan 14 2010: Expect the Unexpected

12 Tuesday Jan 2010

astrology, Solar Eclipse

We see a Solar (New Moon) Eclipse on January 14, 2010 at 11:11 PM PST at 25 Capricorn 01, and what we can expect is the unexpected, symbolized by the sextile of Uranus to the eclipse (and for eclipse aspects, sticking to our usual strict 2 degree orb). Part of the surprise is that Venus joins the pairing of Sun and Moon at the degree and only 49 minutes from exact, traveling ahead of the combo (the exact conjunction is past). This places Venus combust the Sun, and though we must consider that Venus in such a state is weakened as a distinct entity, it’s also melded with the Sun, and so becomes one with it. The ultimate effect is such that the Sun seems to absorb Venus-ness into itself, and in my view, in this instance this is only good. It promises that the eclipse sparks a pure and luminious love effect whereever it falls in the natal chart; by love I mean that this force will take whatever shape is needed for the individual (but remember, what we think we need may not be what we actually need!) and this can be reward or recognition, actual love, money, assets, discovery of talents, expression that is one with the senses, an artistic revelation, fulfilling relationship, illumination of where one’s treasure lies–in short, a payoff for being who we are. Semi-sextiles to Neptune and Chiron suggest that ideals and/ or delusions come into play–dreams can come true–and in the case of delusions they may come true only to show us that our real assets or goals lie elsewhere. There is also the potential for hurt or the discovery/ exploitation of innate and unique skills (Chiron); you can see that, though no matter what happens it will be of benefit to the individual, it may involve the discovery that what we previously valued isn’t truly in our own best interests. The gift of the eclipse is the chance for illumination of the Venus principle in a way very particular to each individual. Take what comes with a response of gratitude, as even the end of a pleasant illusion is something to celebrate; it allows us to put our attention and energy into what will affect our reality, and so change our lives for the better.

A semi-square to Ceres by the eclipse rounds out the direct Sun/Moon involvement with other bodies, signalling that nature and/ or authorities may place a vital role in realizing our eclipse potential; for many this will involve the recognition that one must assume authority for oneself and one’s choices, at this point. The Sabian for the eclipse and Venus degree is ‘A Nature Spirit Dancing in the Iridescent Mist of a Waterfall’ This suggests that the wholistic and organic will be venues for expression of the unseen, again emphasizing the materializtion/ expression of ‘what is,’ which is just another name for love.

Also active at the time of the eclipse is stationary Mercury in Capricorn, which trines Vesta, sesquiquadrates Sedna, and forms a T-square with Juno and Saturn (here we note that Merc will not meet Pluto before direction–its proximity is a red herring). This implies Mercury is attempting to ‘do the right thing’ but is pretty confused right now–if we’re trying to make a statement about reality or the concrete (Capricorn) based on our very best intentions that honor the sacred (Vesta) and that define our own sphere of empowerment (Juno) as well as ‘the rules’ (Saturn) we will be unable to do so with any veracity–not because we’re trying to deceive, but because we’re unable to see the situation at all (Sedna). These statements of ‘this is what I am, this is the situation I’m in control of’ must wait until Mercury is direct and out of contact with Vesta–then we’ll have a much clearer and more accurate idea whereof we speak!

Also of interest is that Uranus is making only easy aspects: sextiles to Moon, Sun, and Venus, a trine to Earth and South Node. This is why the surprises will be largely happy ones, and 100% positive, even if they’re a bummer in the moment; ultimately they will be all for the good. And Mars retro is just within reach of a Grand Trine with Juno and Ceres, making issues of empowerment, authority, and stymied, delayed, or misdirected action the biggest, hairiest fly in our ointment–but considering the sheer positive candlepower of what’s coming with the eclipse, we won’t have much to complain about (unless we’re going in completely the wrong direction–but those people don’t read this blog, do they?)

For more dimension on the eclipse, please see http://www.starsoverwashington.com/2010/01/solar-ecl-jan-15-2010-and-mercurys.html by the esteemed Jude Cowell!

A Blue New Year’s Eve: Lunar Eclipse Dec 31st 2009

23 Wednesday Dec 2009

Dipali Desai, Lunar Eclipse

There

We end the year with a Blue Moon, a second Full Moon in a single calendar month; fun, colorfully describes a rarity, but doesn’t mean a lot astrologically, as calendars aren’t strict reflections of the Cosmos, but man-made measuring conveniences. Now that I’ve stomped all the fun out of this concept, I’ll just keep going: New Year’s Eve is also arbitrary–shouldn’t it fall at the last degree of Pisces (if you’re an astrologer) or on the last day of winter (if you’re a Wicca or Druid or anyone who loves and feels the Earth) or last day of summer (whichever way your summer goes, depending on hemisphere, if you live in a really hot place–there’s a reason both Arab and Indian astrologers named a too-close to the Sun placement severely weakened)?

But, if you’re like me, you may like to believe that there’s a reason the Collective has chosen this day to designate the end of our trip around the Sun. I like to believe that our mass agreement invests some days with a wee bit of magic, and this is one of them. Plus the use of the word ‘eve’ to describe the day before something else-it holds a sense of anticipation, of something’s coming get ready: Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, All Hallow’s Eve, Eve of Destruction–you see what I mean.

So, I approach this Blue Moon, New Year’s Eve Eclipse like a hopeful robin looking for a worm on the astroturf–it all may be artificial, but there’s got to be something good here, too! Such a pile-up of man-designated ‘events’ with one indisputably not (the eclipse) puts me in a mood to go looking for the magic–here’s what I see, for the eclipse at 10 Cancer 14 December 31st at 11:12 AM PST:

The Full Moon is in Cancer, conjunct (of course) the Earth, and when we see that our strict two degree aspect rule for eclipses gets us nothing, we realize just how soft and nurturing the reflected light of Moon in Cancer can be. It will bathe us in a glow, and the larger aspects it makes (a generous 3.5 degree max) are soft and diffuse, too, not bringing the usual clarity and psychic punch that an eclipse holds, but instead riding in on the atmosphere like a mist (or fumes, or poison gas!)  Cancer holding a meeting of the Moon and the Earth, and the power of the alignment (even though it’s partial from our viewpoint) suggests that emotional and intuitive matters will ‘announce’ themselves through material and physical circumstances, and all will be in the Cancer mode: caring and caretaking, concerned, sensitive, especially to the moods and motives of others, and not entirely from a caring point, but from a selfish one, as well, as Cancer is always prone to feel emotionally vulnerable, with the worry that they will be abandoned in some form, or not cared for, behind much of their own offers of care (“I’ll love you and care for you now, and you’ll return the feeling and favor, won’t you?’ It’s interesting that Cancer takes an active, Cardinal approach to getting what it wants–but with the Cardinals we must remember that a sense of proportion and balance comes into play–and with Cancer, the energy wants back what it gave out–in a Cancer approach to things, that’s only right). Cancer may assume obligation to care back by anybody or thing they nurture or love–and that can be the fly in the ointment for the immature (and by that I mean entity who has not grown into the full meaning of the sign) Cancer energy. So we’ll all be swimming in a soft murk of Cancer energy–we just needed to know the possible pitfalls (as the positives about genuine care and support are obvious).

Even with liberal orbs, we get very little, but it does serve to tell us what will be lurking in that nursing, nurturing, I-care-so-much-it-hurts Cancer vibe. We have a trine from the Moon/ Earth to Pallas=wisdom and skills are in harmony with the eclipse energy–but this is a reflective, Moon energy, and we would be smart to ask a few questions (and Pallas gives us the ability–it’s up to us to do so wisely): I feel it, it seems smart, but is that light coming from you or me? Am I accepting your assertion as intelligent, as my own, when maybe it’s neither? Do I have the skills and acumen to undertake or understand what’s before me? Am I using my own inner wisdom in assessing the situation before me?

The Moon/ Earth combo is also square Zeus=the asteroid Zeus is one I’ve been studying intently of late, and what it represents, in general terms, is a fitting counterpoint to the female Juno, a largely male designator (though it has meaning for a woman, as well) keyed to ambition, power, authority and the temptation to abuse it, and wilfullness (see my upcoming in-depth analysis of Zeus in the first issue of my magazine, due in January!) This aspect suggests to me that we may divide up, ever so casually, into those who are receptive (for the Moon’s light has been received–and for some, this may come with the role of victim) and those who would wield the power and control (and for some this could be as abusers, in some sense). The aspect sets up a dynamic of those who care (or who pretend to) in conflict with those who, under the guise of partnership or fairness (Zeus in Libra) will try to take the reins for themselves. This won’t necessarily be nasty; it’s simply a recognition of the motivations of each, and the way that they’re bound to conflict (square).

And the Sun in the eclipse receives a conjunction from Venus, both in Capricorn. Venus kisses the Sun, but it’s likely to be a dry, papery kiss with business on its mind, or maybe with the goal of building or solidifying something (like a relationship). The real Venus moment comes with the exact conjunction of Venus to the Sun and Moon at the Solar Eclipse to follow two weeks later–until then, romance (in the largest sense) may have to take a back seat to other, likely power related, concerns.

Did we find the magic? Not exactly-but if we tap the genuine, Moon related, Cancer oriented bits within ourselves (especially in terms of the natal House where the Moon/ Earth meeting occurs) we can work a little magic in the soft light of the eclipse all on our own.

The eclipse occurs at 5:55 PM August 5th PDT, with the Moon and Earth conjunct at 13 AQ 43; technically, the eclipse itself starts a few minutes after exactitude, but I think it’s reasonable to look at the moment of first contact, so here we are. And what do we see? No contact, using our strict two degree orb rule, except for a puzzling semi-square to the Ascendant (a ‘So what?’ position), and a sesquiquadrate to the Part of Fortune. But, if we stretch our rule just a hair (and what are rules for, if not to stretch hairs over), we finda Fist of God, with sesquiquadrates to the Part of Fortune and Ceres (aka Mother Nature).  Ah! Now a picture is forming.

Am I reaching, using the Part of Fortune? Depends on how you feel about the use of the Arabic Parts in general, I guess, but for an ‘occasion’ (or an event, as I’m guessing this will be) it seems appropriate. Using it allows us to have some fun (or to frighten the bejezus out of ourselves, depending!)

So, the chart I’ve drawn is for Seattle, my current hometown, and eclipse time puts Pluto at 00 Cap–what’s built is destroyed, disruption to the status quo–just inside the 1st at a late Sagittarius Ascendant, which makes a tight quincunx to the South Node–what’s happened before will happen again? or is it what’s been destroyed before, etc?–with Part of Fortune exact on the Descendant. Hmmm. Add the Nodes in crisis at 29 degrees, the aforementioned Fist of God, with component Ceres spanking new in Libra–nature, balance, out of balance, at 00–and Ceres square to Pluto–stability lost, Mother Nature disrupted–are we looking at an earthquake chart?

Now, I don’t like to make predictions, because I believe that nothing, absolutely nothing, is set in stone, nor do I want to whip my readers into a frenzy, or earn the epithet ‘Crazy Julie’; but this is an intriguing pattern, worth noting–and if nothing happens, all the better, or the earthquakes are personal or symbolic–I’d be glad to be wrong.

I don’t want to expect a disaster, but with these measurements I might anticipate one, and my own research has matched contact to the angles with earthquake activity–but of course, there are zillions of contacts to the angles all day long–it just seems that when an earthquake does occur, there’s significant, precise contact–so stay safe, West Coasters! And no matter how flamingly wrong I am about this, the post will stay up–just so we can all laugh about it on the 6th. (Typically, I feel eclipse possibilities last through to the following set of eclipses–so perhaps we’ll just have more activity than usual, through New Year’s Eve/January 2010)
