The Full Moon in Libra occurs at 12:18 PM PDT today, the 6th, at 17 Libra 23. Here’s what I think the Sabian for this Moon/ Earth point says (quoted from ECLIPSE): “‘Two Men Placed Under Arrest’ I see this as two animus-oriented impulses within us that must be stopped; doing is no longer the answer, it’s not even a catch-all to guarantee progress at something. What we do now must be meaningful, and it must carry both our ambitions and our philosophy forward.”

Full Moon in Virgo 8 March 2012: ‘The Coming-of-Age Moon’

All the while I was growing up, visiting the Taj Mahal was a goal; so far, still unfulfilled. 'Taj Mahal by Moonlight' Bartlett 1923 {{PD-Art}}

The Full Moon arrives on the 8th at 1:38 AM Pacific time at 18 Virgo 13. Using our strict 2 degree rule, the Full Moon itself only makes one aspect, a quincunx to Ceres, linking this culmination to harvest, both through Virgo and through the asteroid of nature and nurture. We reap what we’ve sown, plain and simple.

The Sabian for the Full Moon is, ‘A Swimming Race’ We couldn’t have it laid out more cleanly: we find out who won, in whatever venue we have been running a race, but likely connected in some way to the House axis across which this Full Moon lies. We also look at the Sun for a Full Moon: ‘A Master Instructing His Disciple’ This suggests the possibility that the ‘race’ in question is one we have been running with someone close to us, a ‘student’ or our own mentor. It may be time for the student to surpass the teacher, the one who was learning to now teach–in any case it suggests a change in roles that is solid, permanent, and that signifies new duties for all involved. The contact to Ceres links this very strongly to changes in authority, and possibly territory and responsibility, with overtones that what occurs here is an ancient story, the way of nature, or, to get all Disney on you, the circle of life 🙂

Full Moon 7 February 2012: ‘The Revelatory Moon’

'Happiness' by Julio Romero de Torres {{PD-Art}}

We start with the Full Moon of February 7th at 1:53 PM PST at 18 Leo 31 ‘The Revelatory Moon’. This Full Moon brings to a conclusion a period of communication–we can look back and know a statement has been made, quite definitively, and that there’s no more to be said about it (Moon/ Earth opposed Mercury, which is just past exact Superior Conjunction with the Sun). This is the only major aspect, with all other contacts more than 3 degrees away, but we do have a minor contact, a sesquiquadrate of Moon/ Earth to Uranus. This suggests that the culmination involving information, messages, communication, or travel/ transportation will be shocking or surprising, certainly not what we anticipated, or may encapsulate an innovative, electrifying, or original idea, that is now fully formed and ready to be acted upon (though we may not be ready to act, considering the current retrograde of Mars). So, this Full Moon in Leo brings a kind of enlightenment through information or ideas, and this is directly related either to our identity, our Life Path, or some core component of the Soul and its intents.

I’m aware that this is an awfully broad message, and though for some this will be clear in an instant, for most it will take some divining. Look to the natal House axis across which this lies; a selection of the matters of these Houses will be involved in a revelatory tango (or perhaps a winner-takes-all gunfight!) This is Fire and Air facing off, and one thing I know thanks to Mars retro, we want  Air (Aquarius, the position of Sun and Mercury) to win. We don’t want to get all fired up and do–that could bring regret and circumstances that must, eventually be re- (or un-) done; what we want is the inspiration of Fire, the mind and heart alight with it, and our thoughts imbued with that passion. Then we can plan in a way that will insure deep satisfaction on enacting our intentions; for the present, though, we want the mind and its ability to control to prevail.

Gemini Full Moon and Total Lunar Eclipse 10 December 2011: ‘The Game’

'Card Game' Rombouts {{PD-Art}}

The 10th sees a Total Lunar Eclipse (Full Moon) at 18 Gemini 10 at 6:35 AM PST (with the eclipse following soon thereafter). Using our strict 2 degree orb, we have only two aspects, to Venus and Ceres, aside from the opposition to the Sun, but we’ll be adding a third in a bit (available in the newsletter)–first, let’s look at these strongly female-oriented energies as they connect to a ‘moment of completion’ involving a principle symbol of woman, the Moon. This suggests a culmination point of immense  power, as the Earth, balanced exactly between Moon and Sun in alignment, blocks the Sun from offering light to the Moon–and thus the Moon cannot perform her usual reflective function. She is prevented from her usual method of taking in animus light and shining it back into the Universe. Receptivity involves being open and willing to take in another’s assertive (animus) energy as one’s own; it’s a stance that requires a certain ability to put the Self to the side and use one’s own energy to support another–but what does the Moon do when she is not receiving the light of the dominant Sun?

Our clue is in the aspects this Full Moon/ eclipse makes; the energies it touches tell us the character the Full Moon will adopt when her typical way of relating is unavailable to her. The quincunx to Venus says that relationships, assets, or finances must be adjusted to the circumstances presented at the Full Moon; the square to Ceres says that authorities may be involved, but in particular, one’s own authority may be tested, perhaps in a contest between those ‘in charge’ and ourselves. But, when we consider that the Moon, a normally nurture and maternally focused energy, is in a tense situation with Ceres, a light bulb may go on: our maternal role, instincts, nurture function, or relationship to external maternal energies may present a conflict (the square) with another entity’s instinctive, maternal, or power role that is a culmination of some situation, likely long-brewing, over territory, responsibility, or influence. By removing, in a sense, the influence of the Solar orb, Moon/ Ceres energies that might typically be overshadowed by assertive ones can come out to play–if we can consider some serious sorting out of power positions a game!

All the above is from the newsletter. To see the material on that third, slightly larger orbed aspect, and to read about the Sabians for this Full Moon/ Eclipse, please subscribe, or try ECLIPSE by purchasing a single, current issue, which contains the Full Moon analysis, here–Thanks!

Just a Little Essence for the Full Moon 11 October 2011: ‘A Choice of Roles’

Schinkel's 1815 gouache for the Queen of the Night's scene in 'The Magic Flute' {{PD-Art}}

On the 11th we have a Full Moon, at 7:05 PM Pacific time, at 18 Aries 24. An opposition to Saturn ( which is of course conjunct the Sun) is the only aspect that falls within our strict two degree orb.

What happens when the culmination of Full Moon energy is directly in opposition to the Solar orb and the king of reality, Saturn? We may see a situation where we are offered two ‘versions’ of reality, each equally valid! The culmination comes in an energy (Aries) that is about asserting the Self, and about leading others–and this may be a point where we make the personal choice between taking on one of these two roles. It’s really very straightforward, this time around.

It’s A Full Moon Weekend! Here’s the Essence for 13-15 August 2011

Sargent 1885-1886 {{PD-Art}}

What happens over the next three days (12th-15th or so, with perfection of the Sun/ Venus conjunction on the 16th), apart from (or perhaps as a significant aspect of) the Full Moon is a Fist of God with base of Uranus square Pluto and apex of the Sun/ Venus conjunction. This is in effect as the Full Moon opposes the Sun and Venus, trines the South Node and is just shy (but I think I’ll count it) of a square to Sedna. The Fist says that we enter a brief period wherein those long-term and still-occurring changes spurred by the Uranus/ Pluto square will yield their effects on the relationship and/ or financial picture, or on matters of the Houses ruled by Venus and the Sun. We will see the results of the stresses from the square very clearly, over a span of roughly three or four days. We may see any number of manifestations in any number of areas, but all will contain a theme of unexpected change or transformation that is in response to both our relationship as an individual to the group and to the changes to ourselves and to those things we thought were permanent, that have since proven not so–the most important point will be that we recognize what we encounter as an indicator of 1) the way our lives will be different from this point forward, and 2) that we acknowledge the reality of what’s happening, and that, no matter what, there’s no going back. These effects are highly dependent on the way Uranus/ Pluto has so far shown up in the personal chart, but we can be sure of one thing: it will channel any conflict into Venus and/ or Sun related areas, so that these areas will be the recipients of the stress, rather than the origins of it. That’s important to note when it might be easy to believe our relationships, our finances, or other Sun/Venus areas of the chart to be the source of all the upset, rather than the ‘victims’ of it.

The Full Moon for August occurs at 11:57 AM Pacific time of the 13th at 20 Aquarius 41. The sparseness of the aspects made by the Full Moon (trine SN, opp Venus, square Sedna) suggest a rather simple picture that is complicated by its subtlety: the culmination of Lunar energy is in direct opposition to the Love principle, to pleasure, reward, and both possession and enjoyment of assets. Like the Fist, it implies that the endings or completions that come about will be contrary to our Venusian sensibilities, and that, we will both draw on or relive the past in some way, and be unable to pinpoint that this is going on (trine to South Node, square to Sedna). This could mean that we suffer without knowing just what is ending or at risk–and yet we have a way to successfully observe the action via the concurrent Fist and its apex energies of Sun and Venus. So, we will experience upset, endings, and change, much of which will affect the relationship, values, assets, and finances picture (and some of which may appear to be caused by the Venusian areas of life) but they will really be results of Uranus/ Pluto, of a channeling of the past and past behaviors and responses, and for all intents and purposes causes will be not just unclear, they will be impossible at this time to pinpoint.

Void begins 5:27 AM PDT of the 14th; the Moon enters Pisces at 5:54 AM PDT. The Moon conjuncts Chiron, 11:30 AM-ish Pacific, and suddenly we are very aware of our wounds, our unique skills, or both. Can be a moment of healing and revelation, if we are not too married to feeling hurt.

A Mystic Rectangle involving the Nodes and the Sun/ Earth axis, + Venus, is in effect, and chiefly serves to point out this is a fate-determining time, one where we will be guided by values (Sun + Venus), which is a good thing. Those for whom this connects solidly into the natal chart (through placements at approximately 21 degrees) will find this acts like an amplifying antenna, making the contacted energy overwhelmingly prominent, and instrumental in the fate-shaping choices made now.

The Full Moon occurs on the 14th Pacific time 11:39 PM at 22 Capricorn 27. We only have two perfected (within 2 degrees) aspects of the Full Moon/ Earth combination: a trine to Sedna, and a quincunx to the South Node. In short, we are looking at endings that we won’t know are endings at the time. These will involve ideas or discussions from the past and the material assets, values, skills, and all structures upon which we’ve come to rely in our world; these factors will mix and in some way produce an ending, probably centered in the issues of the Houses where these placements lie in the natal chart (SN is at 23 Gemini 17 and Sedna is at 22 Taurus 59, Full Moon 22 Capricorn 27).

The Essence for the Scorpio Full Moon, 17 May 2011-Knowing Who We Are

The Full Moon of 17 May 2011 4:09 AM PDT at 26 Scorpio 13

The Scorpio Full Moon is typically a Lunar point when everyone is immersed in the fullness of the material experience (Taurus Sun); the senses are engaged, and yet the Scorpionic influence of the culmination says, ‘You can feel it, but you can’t grasp it’; that is, we can’t comprehend via the thought processes what we’re experiencing–and so this Moon may be a frustrating one for those whose interaction with life is centered in the mind.

 The Full Moon makes a single, close aspect, a quincunx to Jupiter in Aries. This suggests we may meet some kind of peak of Self-assertion (Aries) in the social arena (Jupiter); after this, a new tack, different approach, or retreat from, the social arena is in order (which is likely determined by the matters of the House in the natal chart where this falls, with a below-horizon spot likely suggesting retreat). We can at this time take an accounting of the pay-off of this Self-assertion; the material results are obvious (though there is both the wish and the possibility with this Moon for more, and that this something more may be hidden, yet to be discovered!) Jupiter brings in the idea of ‘our tribe,’ which we’ll see echoed again in the Sabian for the Sun (see newsletter #8 for detailed analysis); though typically the Full Moon in Scorpio would be focused on the individual energies of abundance and potency, this time these are displayed openly for the social arena, and measured with this in mind.

Overall the message of the Full Moon may be both that we must ‘go along’ with the social scene, showing who we are and what we have (remember, assets are talents and abilities as much as they are possessions) in order to complete a cycle (the culmination); but in doing this we must retain awareness that we may be selling short our heritage or that which is of value that has been passed down to us. It requires a balancing act, with awareness and tolerance (of social requirements and standards) called for.

The Essence of the Libra Full Moon, 17 April 2011: Perfect Love

Since in my mind nature is Love, and a bridge a symbol of a way to connect, well, you get my drift. Larsson 'The Bridge' 1912 {{PD-Art}}

Full Moon at 7:43 PM of the 17th, Pacific time, at 27 Libra 44. Using our usual, strict 2 degree orb we have only a single aspect, a quincunx of the Libra Full Moon to Libra ruler Venus in Pisces. Venus is exalted in Pisces, suggesting that perfect Love is synonymous with a state of Oneness, with the Universal outlook. This implies that wherever the Full Moon falls for you, the matters of this House must be examined with an eye to adjusting (the quincunx) the attitudes, relationships, and approaches so that they better express your idea of ‘perfect love.’ This is well-shown by the Sabian symbol for the Full Moon placement ‘A Man Becoming Aware of Spiritual Forces Surrounding and Assisting Him’ By Man, of course, we mean each human individual, and by spiritual forces, we mean Love, for what else is this but an essence that permeates all, surrounding and ‘assisting,’ if only by putting each on a wavelength attuned to the very force that drives the Universe?

The Full Moon, March 2011, ‘Birthing Uranus in Aries’

19 Saturday Mar 2011

'Super Moon', Full Moon, Moon in Virgo, My Weekend Astro Diary, The Astro Essence

Until he's 'birthed,' revealing himself, Uranus in Aries may be very much like an iceberg, with the majority of his energy hidden Frederic Church {{PD-Art}}

Virgo Full Moon arrives at 11:09 AM on the 19th at 28 Virgo 47.  We find the Nodal axis still within the Cross and Neptune/ Ceres at 29 Aquarius quincunx the Full Moon and Earth, and Uranus is opposed the Full Moon (and so conjunct the Sun) from the Aries Point–and those are our only aspects, but oh, what aspects!

A Full Moon is a culmination of energies; we all know this, right? The problem is that we say that but may not recognize that culminations mean endings, but that we don’t or won’t necessarily recognize an ending when we see it! This is one of the weaknesses of monitoring our own energies with astrology:  we are in danger of expecting certain things–and along with expectations come assumptions about what those things will look like. So, to let go of our assumptions may play a big part in successfully knowing what is coming to an end–and that may not be easy with the pressure of the Nodes in play (forcing the attention toward our destined direction–about which of course we carry even more assumptions!), with the rebellious energies of Uranus trained on expressing individuality (and as a consequence failing to look beyond the Self), and with the involvement of Neptune/ Ceres, calling forward every fantasy, delusion, and mommy or authority issue in our repertoire. So that’s the challenge with these aspects: if we meet them in a mundane way, in an ordinary state of mind, they act as more of a distraction from the ‘business’ of the Full Moon than anything else.

The Sabian tells us how important it is that we meet this energy in an ‘elevated’ state of mind. The symbol for the Full Moon is ‘A Seeker After Occult Knowledge Is Reading An Ancient Scroll Which Illumines His Mind’  The symbol implies that the Full Moon holds the promise of a means of discovering hidden spiritual knowledge, as we act in the role of Seeker. But, this knowledge is a finalization, a conclusion, a putting-together of what we’ve been gathering, discovering, or seeking, perhaps our entire lives.

The illumination a Full Moon brings to Earth (our material circumstances) this time around is not only in opposition to consciousness (the Sun) as usual (meaning that the culmination indicated comes about without great conscious effort on our part–it brings to an end matters as part of a natural cycle, rather than because of our doing), but is also in opposition to Higher Mind (Uranus)–and this suggests that, though we need to meet the Full Moon energy in an elevated state of mind, what we observe as the result may be decidedly mundane–and this means that we may not recognize the culmination as what it really is, the accumulation of our seeking efforts as they play out through these particular influences. Even more vital to note, this Moon may trigger the ‘birth’ of Uranus in Aries–it may, through a mechanism of conclusion or ending, ‘make room’ for the Uranus in Aries manifestation in our lives.
