‘God the Father Creating the Heavens’ By Jean-Charles François 1760 {{PD}}

The 28th Is A Good Day To . . . talk about the astrological health picture–of ourselves, of the Earth–and Nature’s responses to our efforts to tamp down Her assertions (for what’s a virus but a living thing sent out into the world by Mom to compete for territory and success with other living things? A creative statement, perhaps, or a created statement, generated by the Mother of All Earthly Creation, Ceres.)

There’s a Fist of God (or Thor’s Hammer, for the Norse among us) with a base of Venus-Zeus in Cardinal signs (compelling action because we care–Cancer–about others/ loved ones–Libra) and apex of Earth-Ceres, with the Sun semi-square each factor of the base. This is a picture of everything we care about, everything we reach for and want for ourselves as human beings, in a crisis (square) situation, with the inevitable outcome showing in a difficult relationship to Nature (Ceres) and our material surroundings (Earth), a need to adjust our interaction to the needs of the planet, and a need to take into consideration her other inhabitants, as well.

The configuration itself is a punishing one. A Fist always describes a clash (the base square) between two disparate energies that are trying to find a way to resolve their issues and work together; even if they don’t find a way to mesh, the result is the energy at the apex, and it’s in the way the base energies have either resolved their clash, or failed to, that determines whether the apex energies manifest in a positive or negative manner.

This Fist stresses all that we love (Venus) in its conflict relationship to our own appetites and heedless desires, our thoughtless taking-what-we-want (Zeus), and asks us to consider what needs of the environment (Earth) would cause the response that Nature (Ceres) makes. For instance, in answer to global warming, Nature deploys the current unprecedented hurricane situation in the US gulf; for the first time we’re seeing two hurricanes at once, and storm Laura at the time of this writing promises something I’ve never heard in US hurricane forecasting before: an unsurvivable storm surge of 20 feet. If you are a reader in the storm zone, I hope you made it out of there, and are sheltered, safe, and warm!

So, we’re challenged to both admit how our appetites have affected the natural order, and admit that we are the only ones who can do anything about the disruption; Nature is only responding to our interaction with her and her creations–it’s up to us to learn respect, before we as living organisms are overwhelmed ourselves.

Ad for “Pluto Water” laxative by Pluto Water company. Text at the bottom recommends it as a preventative for Spanish Influenza. Printed in LA Herald Oct 1918. Pluto water contained an assortment of minerals, most notably lithium salts.

The only other thing of which I’d like to make note is the Cardinal square of Pluto to Juno. This simply points to the tension of a power struggle that calls for action (the Cardinal placement). Here we may see the power establishment sparring with the kind of empowerment that comes from cooperative efforts (Juno in Libra). The resistance of the power elite to sharing that power can’t be overestimated. In any case, it’s a day to reflect on all that it’s within our power to do, whether we admit/ recognize we hold that power or not.

A Good Day To . . . is based on the aspects perfecting on each day, Pacific time.

A New Year’s Wish For You For 2018

Here’s my New Year’s wish for every one of you: that you make no resolutions for 2018. Here’s why: we must stop seeing ourselves as ‘works in progress’ and start treating ourselves as if we are already adequate to do whatever we dream of, to face whatever we need to. There’s no need to gather courage, resolve to be better in some way, to put off living and doing, or try to ‘clean up’ some area of your life. Perfection is not a goal, it’s an artificial (and static) state, so stop yearning for it; it only prompts judgment, guilt, suffering, and ultimately, rejection of ourselves. We are not perfect, and never will be, but we are perfectly lovable the way we are–so love yourself, be open to receiving love from others, and have a wonderful 2018! Thus endeth the homily 🙂

Aspects Friday the 22nd look like a tribute to musical artist Prince, who died early on the 21st in his Minnesota studio at the age of 57 (and we may note, the 21st was also the date of death of one of the founders of the band Negativland, Richard Lyons, who was also 57; and, Prince’s protege and collaborator Vanity, died 15 February this year, also aged 57–I’m starting to wonder if 57 is the new 27 in the music world, the age when we lost Hendrix, Morrison, Joplin, Cobain, Winehouse, et al). Venus (beauty, Art) conjoins Uranus (the original, the unusual, style) and both novile Neptune (the creative, music), framing the way forward (Venus-Uranus quincunx the North Node), putting our attention on our wounds and clever ways to heal them (Sun novile Chiron).

This combination hands us an awareness of the need for the creative, for Art, for Beauty, for the unique, the original, strange, and fantastical, as we move forward; we see there is no future without an intensely inventive spirit, without a love of both beauty and others (the relationship function of Venus), and both the desire to create (which really drives all life) and the desire to express that creativity in terms that are very particularly our own (Uranus). To me that sounds exactly like Prince’s life mission, one that in the eyes of many he fulfilled exceptionally well.

If we look at Prince’s chart (7 June 1958 6:19 PM Minneapolis MN USA) we see both the natal strains that were lifelong (for instance, a Whole Sign 8th House Gemini Sun, the position emphasizing the individual commitment to others, as well as the inevitable toll that commitment can take, and a 29 degree Pluto conjoined the Midheaven and ruling the 1st of the Self, suggesting serious strain through the career and public image to the personality and so too to the body itself).

When we look at the transits for the 21st, we note the transiting Sun just past contact to the natal South Node (bringing the individual attention to the past, perhaps to that point of what we are before birth–so, returning to one’s origins), and the way the current Sun-Earth axis is aligned his natal 1st House Neptune to the degree (conjoined by Earth, opposed by the Sun). According to The Atlantic, in a 1985 interview Prince stated, “There’s not a person around who can stay awake as long as I can. Music is what keeps me awake,” which is an interesting statement coming from one whose North Node and Neptune were fused in the 1st, a symbol of the creative, forward-looking consciousness he lived.

Transiting Saturn was just beginning to move off (in retrograde) Prince’s natal 2nd House Earth, and with the symbol of both time and ‘The End’ opposing his Sun, he was probably experiencing excessive debilitation; the weakness and exhaustion we feel when the transiting Sun-Earth is flipped from our natal one was likely mimicked and exaggerated a thousand times by Saturn’s contact to the material (Earth) and ‘draining’ of the opposing Sun.

Transiting Jupiter, showing his credentials as the harbinger of life’s longest journey, had already squared Prince’s Sun twice and is scheduled to square it again; once more, the sense is one of strain, and t Jupiter is opposed t Neptune, placing Prince’s natal Sun and Vesta as the arm of a T-square. What’s most vital to him (the Sun) and sacred to him (Vesta) is being strained and pressured by a temporary situation that pits the creative, music, against the social order, the need to reach out and share the creation. It’s no secret Prince fought long battles with record companies, a situation that lasted for years and made for the most frustrating environment imaginable for an artist.

And, the transiting Moon hours before Prince’s death passed over his 12th House Jupiter, possibly triggering that longest journey, in one form leaving the Collective but joining it in another.

Was Arafat Poisoned?

‘Femmes de Siloe, Palestine by Felix Bonfils Silver albumen print c1867-1870 {{PD}}

Here’s what I wrote back in July 2012 on the situation:

Was Yassar Arafat poisoned?

My regular readers are probably aware of how much I like to investigate a possible poisoning–these tend to involve classic compounds that have direct astrological correspondences, and so can make for a rewarding quest. In this case, various possessions of Arafat’s have been found to be radioactively contaminated, with our old friend polonium, and so some are lobbying to exhume Arafat and test for contamination. Should we know the truth? Yes, of course; will the indignation that arises, the pointed fingers, do anyone any good, by now? No, probably not, as it’s unlikely a culprit smaller than a government will be found, whether the contamination came from within his inner circle–a traitor, working for another faction–or from a faceless intruder in the name of massive political interests–and making such accusations about entire nations are fraught with peril, in so many ways. And yet, his people and his loved ones have the right to know from what he died–and so we do our part, looking at transits to the natal chart at death, to see if we can find any clues.

Arafat (27 August 1929  2 AM  Cairo Egypt–data is not certain) died on December 11, 2004 in the early morning hours in France. Pluto was moving through the natal 6th of health (destroyed, disruption to the cells, very much like the cancer that long-term low level polonium exposure would generate) and was conjunct his Saturn (destruction of bones/ bone marrow) and his natal Sun/ Neptune conjunction was being opposed by t Uranus which was just one minute off exact conjunct his Earth–Uranus too can arguably represent radiation (the modern, the planet for which uranium, similar to polonium, is named, carrying the ‘charge’ of radioactivity). t Sedna is conjunct the natal Moon, NN, and Chiron (we can’t see at the time what the ‘injury’ is, what it could mean, or what the effects to females in his life–who may also be ill–or the emotional toll–and this suggests he may not have been able to eat for some time). t Saturn was retrograde and within conjunction of his Venus (suppression of the capacity of the blood sugar to nourish, shut down to kidneys), and t Saturn had recently passed over natal Pluto, suggesting manifestation of something destructive, and it’s only this last that points to a possible plot. But, if there was one to deliberately contaminate the Palestinian leader, then we should see it elsewhere, and we do: t Moon as trine Arafat’s Part of Fortune at the approximate time of death, and the transiting Sun and Mercury were both close to conjunction with t Pluto (and thus Arafat’s Saturn, suggesting the transformation of the body), and t Pluto quincunx n Moon (with the Moon possibly being natal chart ruler for Arafat) with the ‘message’ of the Merc/ Sun/ Pluto meeting in this instance perhaps, to borrow a phrase from George Bush, ‘Mission Accomplished’  t Jupiter, playing so prominent a role in the natural death scenario, here is exact quincunx the North Node/ Chiron natal combo, this in my mind implying that the natural death process had been ‘adjusted’ (the quincunx), changing what would’ve been the natural time of departure–good an argument as any for a possible poisoning by radiation–so my vote is yes, he was murdered.

Findings on the exhumed materials (bones, cloth) in the Arafat case have been announced; here’s a good, ‘all sides of the story’ link

Grief, the Heart, and Brittany Murphy

21 Monday Dec 2009

“It’s alright to keep your grief, long’s you make room for other things”   Bubbles, The Wire

We are so often told we must forgive, forget, move on, recover; we begin, in fact, to feel that if we aren’t complex-free and happy, we’re in some way defective. This just isn’t so; a natural part of the human condition is to grieve for what was, could’ve been, for our regrets, for the sadnesses that are woven through our days, including the impersonal ones that come to us through the news, the neighborhood, the internet, unbidden. Even without significant trauma, the passage of time will bring change, and that alone can bring us grief, as we look back and recall how things looked different in the past (including ourselves!) how we were more optimistic, or innocent, or energized–and so often in hindsight it seems what we faced was simpler, the choices more easily discerned. the opportunities missed; and yet, if we’re honest we realize that at the time, what was presented was the ultimate challenge, in terms of our ability to deal with the alternatives. We tend to think it was all easier, back when–but in truth our minds have smoothed over the edges–we’ve forgotten the depth of our fears, our goals in the moment, and all the influences we were under.

The natal horoscope gives some suggestion of where we might be vulnerable throughout life, and can point to the areas where we may store our grief. Our Moon is a prime repository, and the House with Cancer on the cusp can be the point where we pour that upset into the physical world;  Neptune may be involved, as we follow the natural impulse and hide from, mask, or misunderstand the affected areas; and Sedna may be the new kid on the block, but also one to watch, as her touch makes understanding (even perception!) impossible in the affected arenas; and hard contacts to the Sun can be debilitating, suggesting Soul vulnerabilities that affect the literal and figurative heart.

Actress Brittany Murphy (10 November 1977, Atlanta GA, no time available) died suddenly yesterday in her Los Angeles home, and my first thought on hearing this was that her heart may have stopped from an electrolyte imbalance; her extremely thin appearance of late points to this as a possibility, and she would not have been the first Hollywood actress to suffer this (Kellie Waymire had a similar cardiac disruption at a young age). With Brittany, no time of birth is available, so we can’t attribute signs to cusps, but transits and Solar Arcs tell us something of the possibilities.

Transiting Neptune and Jupiter are sextile natal Ceres, suggesting the possibility of an exaggerated and poorly chosen diet, perhaps an intensive fast; T Pluto is trine Chiron in Earth–could there have been a strong impetus for transformation (clearly gone too far) as the primal wound is stimulated? I heard a media individual say this morning that Brittany’s career had peaked five years ago; if this was her perception, too, then who knows what emotional damage this may have done, and what it might have spurred her to do to try to change the situation; Solar Arc Pluto was conjunct the Sun, symbol of the heart; and on the day of death, December 20th (and just prior to and concurrent with the time of discovery) the transiting Moon was square natal Uranus, bringing the emotional ‘light’ to bear on the nervous system, and the higher functions specifically. Could this in total show a grief that overcame this young woman? Of course, all this is purely speculative, as cause of death is still to be determined, but the loss of someone young always draws our attention, and gives us a fresh source of Collective, and even personal, grief, through our own empathetic nature.

Addendum: Reports now are stating that Murphy was vomiting severely prior to her collapse; this is a classic symptom of heart failure, whether from natural or induced causes. The chart and transits don’t suggest to me any drug involvement.
