Void begins at 1:23 AM PST; Moon enters Aquarius at 2:28 AM PST. We pay attention (though normally we wouldn’t) to the sassy semi-sextile of Luna to the brand spankin’ new conjunction of the Sun and Neptune, and it probably gives the feeling state a shiny (and possibly confusing) aura–what do we feel? It seems like it should be obvious, but it’s just not. Could hook the emotions to a delusion or fantasy, if we’re not careful.

8:30 PM PST and the Moon sextiles Ceres and trines the South Node. One way or another we come upon that power we were seeking earlier, and we do it by calling on something in our past, probably something we heard or were told at some previous time (Gemini).

'The Little Bird Seller' Meyer 1851 {{PD-Art}}

Just before 5 AM PST the Capricorn Moon trines Mars, and it may be very easy to accomplish–the Moon and Mars co-operate in Earth, and we can make sizable headway at this time.

Just before noon the Moon trines Sedna, and ‘I don’t know how I feel!’ becomes the refrain. Don’t fight it–it’s a time to just let things slide, and don’t work to pinpoint feelings–they are slippery things that will not be caged at this point.

Just a Little Lunar Essence for Today 17 February 2012: ‘Barriers, and Getting Around Them’

'A Wall in Naples' Mauer 1782 {{PD-Art}}

Just before 1 AM PST the Capricorn Moon squares Uranus, perhaps making us ill at ease with the unusual, especially if we find it within ourselves. We may have the urge to do something about it (Cardinal placements)–but what? We are likely to suppress suppress suppress, but if we experience discomfort the best answer may be to face it and see it for what it really is: the bogey man of judgment. This may act as a reminder to let go of our most strenuous preconceptions.

7:30 AM PST the Moon sextiles Mercury: we may have emotional barriers up (Moon in Cap), but at this point communications can flow around these (Merc in Pisces). The engulfing nature of what’s shared, and the pure sensation of feeling available through communications, makes up for the stiff upper lip persona of the Moon right now. Those with superb emotional control (or intuitive acuity) can shape the Merc influence to bring an experience to themselves and others of strong emotional impact and deep understanding/ knowing.

Just a Little Lunar Essence for Today 16 February 2012: ‘Dodging Awareness’

'Awaiting the Tiger' Rudolph Ernst pre-1932 {{PD-Art}}

7 AM PST the Sagittarian Moon quincunxes Sedna, making for an unusual situation: we may find ourselves dodging emotional awareness, though we won’t know what ‘knowledge’ we’re trying to avoid! Kind of an instinctive attempt to protect ourselves from some form of knowing, that really can’t be explained.

By 7 PM PST the Moon sextiles Saturn, which is lingering in the 29th degree of Libra. Boundaries and ‘rules’ in partnership are under stress and the source of emotional volatility at this time. Appreciation of those elements of security we enjoy via our mates, partners, and connections is a good antidote. Void begins at 8:03 PM PST. Moon enters Capricorn at 9:03 PM PST.

7 AM PST the Sagittarius Moon trines Venus and semi-sextiles Pluto, making for loving, generous, or rewarding experiences that can transform, particularly in terms of removing boundaries or obstacles. Profit comes in positive Self-assertion; loving knowledge shared (or loving prayers made) will only bring benefit.

5 PM PST the Moon sextiles Zeus, prompting ambitious acts and attempts to rope in others for support and pooling of resources (Zeus in Libra). Maybe not the best thing to act on right now, with Mars retro, but do notice what you get enthused about, what you want to get others on board for, as these may be the sparks of future projects and goings-on.

Just a Little Lunar Essence for Today 14 February 2012: ‘A Double Whammy of Illusion’

Still Life by Luttichuys The painter at work can be seen in the curved mirror c1637 {{PD-Art}}

Void begins at 9:05 AM PST; Moon enters Sagittarius at 4:56 PM Pacific time. Right away the Moon squares the Neptune/ Pallas conjunction. A Sag Moon makes us want to reach out emotionally, to extend a hand, but we may do so under some form of illusion about who needs our practical help, advice, or guidance, or we may persuade ourselves there’s knowledge held by some particular person or venue that we must acquire–and so may push someone to give us something they don’t really have! The best advice I can give at this point is to be aware that we are laboring under a double whammy of illusion, in both what we think we need and what we think we own to share. A measured approach, and a reticent attitude, will serve us well.

Just a Little Lunar Essence for Today 13 February 2012: ‘Discussing the Past’

8:30 AM PST the Scorpio Moon quincunxes the South Node. We may feel the urge to dig up the past, and then to talk about it. The reception we get when we try to get others to take our forced march down memory lane will vary widely, but the one constant may be that everyone will be uncomfortable with the exercise, even the willing participants.

The Weekend Lunar Essence 10-12 February 2012: ‘Wake Up & Smell the Coffee!’

Early 18th century, Artist Unknown {{PD-Art}}

For Friday the 10th:

Coming up on 5 PM Pacific the Libra Moon opposes Venus and quincunxes Jupiter. Someone may try to claim territory that common sense says really can’t be claimed as theirs alone; we want to co-operate, they want to bully–but they miscalculate. Quietly stand your ground–the social sphere adjusts its thinking to us (for once), and we cut (or don’t even experience) any losses.

For Saturday the 11th:

11:30 AM PST the Moon conjuncts Zeus, making us one with our ambition and desire state–and probably launching a search (even if it’s only a speculative ‘what if?’) for a partner, personal or business.

And for Sunday the 12th:

12:30 AM PST the Moon poses as apex to a Finger of God with base of Sedna/ Vesta. We lose sight of what is sacred to us, of the importance of home and our intimate relationship, and yet somehow this has a positive, freeing effect that allows the emotional perceptions or the intuition to function effectively in these very same areas. It’s like the usual filters we apply to these subjects are removed, and we get a fresh look at them all. A very good aspect.

12:30 PM PST the Moon conjuncts Saturn, bringing emotional awareness to our reality. May result in a review of how we feel about ‘what is’ right now, and could light up limitations and those things that make us safe, and show us the difference between the two. Moon enters the Void at 1:09 PM PST; the Moon enters Scorpio at 2:01 PM.

Just after 5 PM PST the Scorpio Moon quincunxes Uranus, shaking it up, but gently–could be a matter of ‘Wake up and smell the coffee!’which we’re glad for, as it keeps us from an emotional misstep in the near future.

9 PM PST the Moon opposes Jupiter and trines Chiron, bringing forward a dissonance with the social sphere that actually provides an opening for healing. As long as we are willing to take that step back from the social order, the mending will take care of itself.

A Little Astro Essence: Venus Into Aries

With her red hair, a Venus in Aries type-'Portrait of Alice Guerin' by Helleu 1900 {{PD-Art}}

From the Protected Page:

In the sign of Aries, the sign of ‘I am’, of the Warrior, of the Self-conscious and the Leader, Venus feels out of place; it’s her detriment, and where Venus is enveloping and receptive, sojourners through Aries are asked to aggress, assert, and generally go after what they want, the very opposite of Venus’ natural mode of getting, attraction. This is the main problem that Venus faces as she travels through Aries: her innate way of doing and being is at odds with what the environment requires–and that means she is always at a disadvantage.

Our Lady of Love enters Aries in semi-sextile to Neptune, and this may set the tone, and give us a clue as to the way Venus will handle her experience here. She may resort to illusion, delusion, subterfuge, fantasy, deception, or be very creative in her coping attempts, and she could pretend to be other than she is, or could align herself with a Collective goal or aesthetic, in order to deal with the assertive demands of the sign.

We shouldn’t make the mistake of thinking Venus doesn’t have the ability or inclination to fight, because she really does, it’s just that her methods are not those of the Warrior, but of the Seductress, and her anger shows as jealousy or envy, with Venus appealing to others (such as her son, Eros, in her campaign to subdue her rival-in-beauty, Psyche) to do her dirty work. Remember, she rules Libra, of partnership, passive-aggression, and the iron fist in the velvet glove, and Taurus, an Earth sign–and Venus loves her comforts and material possessions–and so in Aries she is more likely to muster her energies in these directions, as well as in diplomacy and artisanal pursuits, in order to fulfill the Arian mandate to do do do.

Just a Little Lunar Essence for Today 8 February 2012: ‘So Try That’

Seurat 1883-1884 {{PD-Art}}

Void begins at 8:43 AM PST; the Moon enters Virgo at 9:33 AM Pacific. Immediately Luna opposes Neptune and quincunxes Venus, and we either become hyper-critical of those who are imaginative, ungrounded, or who are preferring fantasy to reality, or we lose sight of the details in a need for escape or relief. What we need to see is that this will cost us; how much is dependent on whether or not we are able to adjust our reactions to respect our relationships.

Approaching 3 PM Pacific the Moon trines Jupiter in Earth–and if we want to be generous, we could say this starts a big ol’ sloppy Grand Trine with Pluto–and may set up a kind of push and pull between emotional needs/ material insecurities and big scary change either personally, to what we ‘know’, or on a broader scale, before us on the panorama of the social scene. It’s odd that a Trine would create an energy that is more like an opposition, but in this case it feels like things shake out with wee personal feelings and vulnerabilities on one side and massive, threatening changes affecting whole segments of society on the other.

4 PM PST the Moon opposes Chiron–if it hurts, we’ll find it, and give it a good salt rubbin’! Here’s the thing with this: the pain is almost entirely Self-inflicted; with some emotional discipline and rational perspective (accessible during a Virgo Moon transit) we can separate ourselves from our wounds rather neatly. So try that.
