‘The Head of a Crossbowman Taking Aim’ By Hans Holbein the Elder c1515 {{PD}}

The 19th Is A Good Day To . . . tap into the ideals, the imagination, into spirit, and into the creative to quite specifically shape the future. Dreams and our ideas of perfection are crucial to the process. Action and choice in the largest, intention-centered sense are called for; that is, making choices with an eye to the very long-term implications is desirable. We do have the yoke of Mercury retrograde, right now, and that can’t be ignored; best actions are undertaken with a broad-stroke approach that recognizes the limits of the mind, draws on the feeling nature as a perceptual lens, and that is actively cognizant of the sense that there are some things we just can’t or don’t know–which means the aims we take today must rest on Higher Mind, spiritual, and eternal values. Follow those and you won’t go wrong.

The 18th Is A Good Day To . . . act to make real, permanent change, or to transform what you wish to re-make. Though Merc has just gone retro, we have this single-day window during which we can and should act or choose. The one thing we need to keep central to our efforts is that what we act on today must be something we’ve already determined or perceived, before the Messenger’s retro. That means it needs to be something we’ve already thought-through or settled on, but just haven’t acted on yet. Be cognizant, too, that if we try to be spontaneous, acting from what suddenly springs to mind, we will most likely end up being nothing but destructive, or possibly winning only anger from those who are affected by our choice. Despite the way we are already in the Dark of the Moon (the three days before a New Moon), we are also coming up on a Solar eclipse, which has already been preceded by a Lunar one; in that valley between eclipses, we never really hit a normal Dark period, so that the usual retreat and contemplation energies never take hold–so don’t be surprised if the fatigue that comes with a continuous flow of energy that we can’t seem to escape is at least one of the results.

Mercury Retrogrades 17 June 2020, And We Re-Think Ourselves

Study for ‘Giotto Painting the Portrait of Dante (Holding a Pomegranate)’ By Dante Gabriel Rossetti 1852 {{PD}}

Merc takes up apparent retrograde motion just before 5 AM UT on the 18th (the 17th, here across the pond, at 9:59 PM PDT), at 14 Cancer 45. First major aspect it makes heading retro (other than contact by the Moon) is a trine to Ceres in Pisces. The entire retro cycle occurs in the Cardinal Water sign of Cancer, and between this and that first contact, suggests to me that the period will involve re-thinking what we care about (especially those things or individuals it falls upon us to tend to or nurture), our emotional and spiritual health, the ways in which we employ the creative energies to express ourselves, and our emotional relationship to Nature Herself. We may look for ways to gain emotional satisfaction from the creative act (and remember, creative energy is actually behind every act, no matter the intent); we may also assess how well spiritual practice and belief specific to our role in the Cosmos (Pisces) serve both the essence of who we are and our happiness in daily life–that is, we may ask ourselves, ‘Is spirit truly an active part of my life, and if so, when am I most aware of it, when do I feel it, and in what way does it move and motivate me?’.

Because the modality is an active one, one that requires a ‘doing’ kind of response, we will be spurred to do something about the things we perceive–but because this is Mercury that we’re talking about, we need to remember that the mind during the retro is quite naturally missing perceptions or information that might otherwise, in direct-thinking times, bring us to a different conclusion. Add to this that the retro occurs in a Water sign ruled by the Moon, and we have a perfect storm generating the kind of events where we may feel and act well before we are able to process what we’ve perceived. You can see the obvious potentials for danger there, so proceed through this retro with real caution, though I have to note it may also be one of the most effective times we’ve seen of late allowing us full emotional range and offering the ability to make post-retro plans to do something about what we feel. Just remember that there’s a Solar eclipse coming on the 20th, which may prompt starts that, in at least some cases involving Merc-feeling information, may be premature. The eclipse may instead ‘clean sweep’ the emotional landscape in the related areas in the natal chart (House where it occurs, and involving any bodies or points contacted and possibly what they rule, contact by aspect, or where they are posited), making new terrain for our emotional exploration–again with the understanding that the mind won’t quite be able to adequately process what’s happening at the time–so be prepared for lots of feeling over the coming weeks, with understanding as to what it means and what we should do arriving significantly later.

The 16th Is A Good Day To . . . appreciate the things in life you’ve mastered, conquered, or that you are skilled in. Practicing what you’re competent at brings reward of Love or Money or maybe just the appreciation of yourself as a unique and gifted individual. This is an intimate, Self-reflective energy that we’ll feel keenly today; the other is large, public, and will either cause us to modify our relationship to the social sphere, or cause the social sphere to re-evaluate who we are. The better we genuinely know ourselves, the better our day will go.

The 15th Is A Good Day To . . . know that sketchy as the mental perceptions were yesterday, today is just the opposite: Mercury and Pallas are in opposing signs (Cancer and Capricorn, respectively) but are parallel, suggesting that a caring and receptive mentality, coupled with recognition of the wisdom found in discipline and ‘the rules’, will prove not just helpful but revelatory, in terms of showing us the smart way of seeing and doing. Trust your mind today, in spite of the fact that Mercury will be retrograding starting the 17th; the Moon in Aries will help keep thinking straight and Self-focused in the good way of responsibility and unambiguous intent, and bolsters follow-through and emotional clarity. And just a reminder: don’t go buying trouble by too-intently anticipating some retrograde or transit you know is coming. Live in the moment, both in RL and astrologically–it makes you a more objective and much more perceptive observer.

‘Whisperings of Love’ By William Adolphe Bouguereau 1889 {{PD}}

The 14th Is A Good Day To . . . listen to your hunches, as they’re ‘smart’ and informed in a way we just can’t access through the mind right now. The problem is our thoughts won’t allow a decent examination of the darkness, and that’s where all the juice, and a lot of the Truth, lies at present, hence the need to favor instincts and intuition over the mental processes. Too, material reality may mislead us about a health matter; issues are not what they seem. Make no firm conclusions about the state of your health at this time.

‘An Artist in His Studio’ By John Singer Sargent 1904 {{PD}}

The 13th Is A Good Day To . . . act on creativity, but concurrently refuse to act out of hurt. Mars meets Neptune, bringing creative energies to a peak, infusing our choices with inspiration, and helping us take action on ideals. Keeping motivations pure (that is, not having ulterior motives, an ‘I’ll show them’ attitude, or doing something out of guilt) makes for a tremendous result, manifesting some of the best of what we carry inside. A few of us may attract temperamental others who, dare I say, are probably jealous? Don’t let that potential deter you. Get it out there, so we can all see and enjoy!

‘Women Chasing Crickets on an Autumn Moor’ By Chōbunsai Eishi 1790s {{PD}}

The 12th Is A Good Day To . . . translate your personal power and authority into real-world change, creations, or actions that make an impact. You won’t get rewarded for it, in the usual sense of the word, but instead may find things land with a thud and are accompanied by crickets–but that’s not only okay, it’s the way it’s meant to be–otherwise we’d pause and give too much attention to what will become, with future developments, a vital building block to a new world view we’re in the process of creating. What happens springs from the way our minds are meshed with our highest values and priorities–so we need to accept that no accolades today doesn’t negate the worth of what we’ve done; we just have to let the future prove how really right it truly is.

‘The Sculptor’s Studio’ By Tom Roberts 1885 {{PD}}

The 11th Is A Good Day To . . . go after what we want, but with these factors in mind: efforts must be tailored to the actual results we want–one of the least effective things occurs when we think an action should build toward what we want (or possibly we’re pretending it does), but may in fact not really be a step forward. Sorting wasted energies from ones that count is useful today; take care not to wound others or yourself–it’s far too easy to think we’re being loving when we’re anything but (particularly offering ‘constructive criticism’ or unsolicited opinion); the awareness, mind, and attention are all aligned, and so today can be deployed very effectively in support of our Soul’s intents, so take advantage of this; and finally, today we may have creative and inspired ideas but not be able to see how to implement them–give them time to mellow, knowing that not being able to embody or enact them right away is only a blessing.

‘The Smoking Moor’ By Peder Mørk Mønsted 1898 {{PD}}

The 10th Is A Good Day To . . . remain aware we are so focused on our goals today, so filled with ambition and desire, so trying to make progress happen, that we may inadvertently harm or even destroy relationships and/ or sources of support, assets, and income. Love is purged, somehow, but it’s up to us whether that means we purify our intent toward others, or unwisely take an axe to what means the most to us (or to what or whom cares the most about us). If we are careful, we can pursue aims and further ambitions to a startling degree–just make sure you don’t behave in such a way that there is an ‘aftermath’ to clean up.
