A Good Day To . . . 5 November 2019

The 5th is a Good Day To . . . watch proceedings carefully, as today we get a preview of what the upcoming Saturn-Pluto conjunction will bring. The two bodies are parallel, making for a kind of pre-echo, a stark and fleeting glimpse of what their meeting in Capricorn perfecting 12 January 2020 promises. In the largest sense we’ll see reality collide with the inevitability of change, the destruction of circumstances, institutions, and previous boundaries, restraints, and figures of authority. This brings transformation, if only through forcing awareness of the passage of time; it also offers to dig up secrets, the kind that rebuke the current power structure. We may see temporary chaos, the purpose of which is to renew, regenerate, and revive the constructs of our reality. Falling in Capricorn, it likely threatens those life factors that give stability and dependability to the day-to-day, to those facets of existence on which we rely–and yet, it can bring change that removes conditions that have limited our Power, our access to the Truth, or that have prevented us from seeing reality fully and in an accurate light.

This can also stir fear, as situations of destruction or disintegration may seem permanent, a disorder we’re unable to rein in. In select situations, where power has already undergone a change, circumstances can be cemented in place, becoming an undeniable part of the ‘new’ reality. It may be the ‘irresistible force vs. the immovable object’ related to the matters of the House in the natal chart where this falls. In any case, today gives us that glimpse ahead, which can be vital in preparing for the January conjunction itself.

It’s also notable that the January perfection of the aspect comes on the heels of a Lunar eclipse in Cancer which opposes it. That opposition includes Sun, Mercury, and Ceres conjoined Saturn-Pluto, and forms a T-square with conjoined Juno-Zeus. The general scenario is one of a power challenge: are you empowered to get what you truly desire? What we care about is weighed against reality, with the tension between the two inspiring the emotional effect of the Lunar eclipse.

But back to the 5th! We’re getting this preview, and as we do we may panic, moving in precipitous ways (particularly in ways that seem like we’re grabbing power, or that prove to be Self-destructive) that may compromise our integrity or our values. Don’t flip out! This is spurred by our hyper-awareness of our individual position in the Universe; a sense of aloneness is keen, even poignant. Know that thinking, especially about the future, is wonky, too heavily influenced by desires and matters ignored or denied to be trusted. Instead just survey what happens and ponder it, looking for the threads that suggest change, upset, or shifts in power, and gather clues that can help you prepare for the eclipses and conjunction that lie ahead.

The 4th is a Good Day To . . . attune thoughts to Love, so that actions and choices, which are today driven hard by ambitions and desires, won’t flounder on matters too long ignored or denied. Only selfish reasoning or an insistence on dodging what’s important can get in our way and trip us up. All hazards, at this point, are Self-generated.

The 3rd is a Good Day To . . . use Love to Heal. Translate this into any form, practice, or application you like, but make sure it’s a pure intent that seeks only to nourish and repair–that’s where all our rewards come from, today. Take special efforts to treat others as partners or equals, and be especially considerate of the mate.

The 2nd is a Good Day To . . . plan for, discuss, and communicate about the future. Somehow the mentality is in touch with that wisest part of ourselves today–that part that refuses to entertain nonsense or the negative–and though we are aware of a disorienting disconnect from our own instincts when we try to go on autopilot (so don’t), we are otherwise able to make significant gains when exploiting our status or current roles. This is one of those days that may show you there are perfectly good uses for a Mercury retrograde, and though it’s not the time to act on things, it is just right for laying out exactly the way you want it to be.

‘”I am half-sick of shadows”, said the Lady of Shalott’ By John William Waterhouse 1915 {{PD}}

The 1st is a Good Day To . . . review what we’ve brought forward from the past that’s truly worthy and worthwhile; today that’s where we find treasure of all kinds, reward, profit, or discover love we may not have been aware of. With Merc retro in Scorpio we should expect this to stir up a lot of emotion, but it should also bring opportunity, and perhaps show us just how ‘lucky’ we really were/ are. Actions and choices are inspired by ideals and fired by the imagination, and it’s in taking personal responsibility for our own lives that we are able to realize, release, and then make use of our assets and the current situation in the best way possible.

‘Les Bretonnes aux Ombrelles’ By Émile Bernard 1892 {{PD}}

The 31st is a Good Day To . . . embrace the dark mental precipice we’ve plunged over with Merc’s turnaround in Scorpio. The Messenger’s reversal of apparent direction in Water may make us question our feelings, may make us obsess over a love (or hate) relationship, may make us insist on getting to the bottom of a mystery, may compel us to anxiously shout the question, ‘What’s in the box?’–in short, it will prompt thoughts and situations that ignite a persistent desire to reach an emotional conclusion by taking a deep dive. We assess the subjects of the House in the natal chart where the reversal occurs in light of how we feel–and if we’ve got it together, we use the retro period to make plans to change matters so they better align with how we’d like to feel. It’s a period when we can re-make the life to suit the emotional nature–or at least modify it so that we find a sense of satisfaction in some Scorpio related area, either in the largest way (through subjects that fall under the sign) or through matters of the House placement unique to us and pinpointed by the natal chart.

It’s important to note that, particularly today, we can plan or communicate in ways that lay out great actions or choices to be made in future–and it’s also a day when we can benefit by making the most of current roles, status, or empowerment options. We thrive on Self-responsibility, and we reach the end of the day having modified our beliefs or our social role so that it’s much healthier for us.

‘The Tower of Babel’ By Pieter Bruegel the Elder 1563 {{PD}}

The 30th is a Good Day To . . . be aware. Obvious, right? That’s something we’re always trying to do, but today it’s especially important to be conscious of what’s roiling beneath the surface–particularly below the surface of your own mind.

The interweaving of contacts is noteworthy, with a stationary Mercury caught up to and conjoined by Venus in Scorpio, with both opposed Sedna and novile Mars, and then throw in Mercury’s parallel to Pluto. The scenario is one of a becalmed mind filled with a stark and terrible beauty, one that aligns with and reflects our deepest held fears, angers, and hopes, especially those attuned to change, re-birth, and the re-making of our world. Too, this mental outlook rejects the instinctual nature and those things we ‘know but don’t know’; the result may be that rather than this being an entirely contained, individual experience, it is externalized, with other people, circumstances, and events taking on some of the parts. Thinking, then, may be a heavy pastime, one where we chase the same thoughts round and round–or one where we are inspired by relationships, beauty, even financial gain, but find it hard to plot a path forward, so alienated are we from our own instinctual responses, and this is so even as we are moved to act or choose in some pretty amazing, clever, or inventive ways. So, when Merc retrogrades, we may find ourselves in a really good position, without being entirely aware of how we got there! Or we could find we’ve ‘cart before the horse’-d it, and take our revisions from there.

‘Allegory of Fortune’ By Salvator Rosa c1650 {{PD}}

The 29th is a Good Day To . . . not press your luck. Stick with what you know to be smart or practical–that’s where significant payoff is possible. And remember, just because you believe it, doesn’t mean it’s true, and certainly, others aren’t required to support your personal beliefs–so be sure to sift facts from the belief filter in which they get caught.

Aspect of the Day: Venus conjoins Pallas. It’s a day for Beautiful Warriors–just keep in mind what you read above.

‘Obstruction’ By Jane Sutherland 1887 {{PD}}

The 28th is a Good Day To . . . take cover, be ready for the unexpected, or be ready to think on your feet–it all depends on what parts of both the inner and outer life are still being rejected. The New Moon was supposed to dig these areas up and present us with circumstances to which we could respond–but if we aren’t yet through the process, we aren’t yet ready to take the necessary steps to move into the future.

Today requires a number of things: a reassessment of values and/ or relationships, a change in thinking, a willingness to explore new creative avenues, and a goal of ferreting out discrepancies between our energy commitments (time, what we honor, investment) and our actual priorities (in what life areas we spend our time and attention, rather than where we say we want to spend our time and attention). I know, that’s a bulky and too vague list, but it’s meant to spur awareness of, more than anything else, where we’re continuing to reject ourselves and our genuine needs. Face those areas, and it all becomes clear.

The 27th is a Good Day To . . . accept real-world boundaries, and put relationships above principles. Those aren’t always the best parameters to use in meeting the world, but today they are the ones that will keep us safe and keep us aligned with what really matters–and what else is there?
