‘Fantasy’ By Pierre Puvis de Chavannes 1866 {{PD}}

The Sun and Mercury both enter Gemini today and form the Superior Conjunction; though they share space in the 29th degree of Taurus, they don’t perfect their meeting until 00 Gemini–thus suggesting that the conclusions typical to a Superior Conjunction will spark a whole new way of thinking or relating, and that these might be preceded by a crisis or other tense scenario.

When they perfect, both the Sun and Mercury are semi-square Juno, signalling some sort of upset over personal empowerment, or the authority or status one holds–and this may come as precursor to, or follow-up to, the Superior Conjunction.

All this tension/ crisis may open the way to opportunity, to freedom, and this gives us the chance to truly act on or expand the reach of what we consider important, what we value or are dedicated to. Not all of us will respond to this, though; some will immerse themselves in escapism or take a fantasy-based tack. In either case, we need to be aware that what happens today will shape the future, for some time to come.

For those born with the Sun at 00 Gemini. Check your natal chart for the correct Sun degree (you may want to read both the degree number and the one that follows, if you have minutes on your Sun position–together these offer a more complete picture of your year ahead). Dear Gemini, What will you learn on your birthday? What will end, what new beginnings show themselves? The sky’s the limit for you, this solar year, through to your next birthday, IF you’re willing to pull back and make sure that in pursuing ambition or desire fulfillment you remain both smart and practical. A willingness to apply skills, or to learn new ones, would serve you well, as is openness to change that is optimistic or that brings the life in line with the facts. Good luck!

20 May 2019 We’re Already There

We’re in the midst of adjusting to relationship and/ or financial changes that became apparent at the Full Moon; there were surprises, revelations, and the facts have created situations that can’t be ignored. Our minds are working at peak (barring any hobbling transits to your natal Mercury), as we consider how best to modify our approach and (hopefully) enhance our position. Take developments in stride, and let changes the mind suggests percolate, as they won’t be a finished product until the Superior Conjunction. We’re already there, wherever there happens to be–our awareness is merely catching up to these changes, these faits accomplis.

For those born with the Sun at 29 Taurus. Check your natal chart for the correct Sun degree (you may want to read both the degree number and the one that follows, if you have minutes on your Sun position–together these offer a more complete picture of your year ahead). Dear Taurus, Your power position or status is being threatened; what do you do? Invest time, energy, and trust in what you value, in those individuals, organizations, and entities you honor, and make sure you’re using skills, but not allowing wounds, especially those around autonomy and the exercise of Will, to call the shots. Obstacles come in the form of things previously swept under the rug. Big, permanent change and opportunity can both be yours, as long as you allow reality, not fantasy, to guide and shape ambitions and so life direction. Good luck!

‘The Ahırkapı Lighthouse’ By Michel Zeno Diemer c1910 {{PD}}

We may be exhausted from Full Moon events and find it hard to do what’s smart, rather than what’s just expedient, but our instincts and our sense of ‘knowing what we don’t know’ will be on full-power, a beacon seeking out info and putting ‘the picture’ together. Trust what comes to you, and if you don’t understand it, wait–you will.

For those born with the Sun at 28 Taurus. Check your natal chart for the correct Sun degree (you may want to read both the degree number and the one that follows, if you have minutes on your Sun position–together these offer a more complete picture of your year ahead). Early on, dear Taurus, you may feel unfettered: free to do as you please, with no restrictions and judgments coming your way–but THAT would be too good to be true, no? It seems it will just take some time for those things to catch up with you, to enter your field of vision–which means they’re happening, even when you aren’t aware of them. So, act as if you are being judged and observed, making sure that you are totally good with (and so can stand up for) your choices. Later in the solar year, nearer your next birthday than this one, you’ll confront in some hard terms things you’ve pushed aside, ignored, denied, or that have enraged you, with the big point of this sorting our for yourself how much of what you are angry about or fear is real, how much your own imaginings. Too, it’s a good year for connecting with Nature and with your personal power base, and exercising prerogatives in areas you already control. Good luck!

‘Still Life with Copper Pots’ By Martin Dichtl 17th century {{PD}}

If you’re looking for the forecast for the 17th, it’s here–

What happens when assertive energies, frustrated by their place in a sign that requires feeling instead of doing, contact a dark point where one may hide what is ignored or denied, and this meeting coincides with Love or Money delivering accident, shock, or revelation, simultaneous to a Full Moon in Scorpio that ramps up the feeling atmosphere to 11, with that Moon precisely opposed (only 30 minutes variation) Sedna, harbinger of difficult-to-access knowledge, instinct, and our own blind spot? Well, we’re going to find out, aren’t we 🙂

The day threatens to be a hot mess, one created by our actions driven by what we’ve ignored or denied, or by an unacknowledged rage, one where our relationships or finances hold the power to shock and surprise, to rob us of our usual understanding through sudden developments or information delivered in a flash or by (or through) accident. Our attention will be on what we instinctively respond to, but the clarity of our perceptions is dependent on Self-knowledge; if we are operating in our own blind spot, our only way of knowing is to read the faces of those around us, and hope that someone will tell you what everyone but you knows.

The Full Moon perfects just a couple of days before the Superior Conjunction of the Sun and Mercury; this is our first clue that the emotions and information in the atmosphere will be liminal, not entirely conscious, and not entirely available to the conscious mind, even one that is seeking it. Our second clue is in the fact that it occurs in Scorpio, the sign of the dark, the hidden, the subtle but deeply felt. The third is in the Full Moon’s opposition to Sedna, the vehicle for our instinctive nature, for what we ‘know but don’t know’, and for the folly of those areas we think we understand, but don’t.

Forming at 2:11 PM PDT at 27 Scorpio 38 on the 18th, the Full Moon, as mentioned, opposes Sedna as well as Mercury, reiterating the idea of information, messages, communications, knowledge that we may feel but may not have access to (though both Sedna and Mercury are posited in Taurus, suggesting a way in to that information through the sensory world, if we can allow a feeling state without demanding the brain translate).

Keeping tight orbs, we also see a sesquiquadrate to Juno in Cancer. Aha! We’ve found the culprit–that is, the one detail that can elaborate on what it is that’s happening behind the scenes, that thing we are feeling and trying to suss out, with little success. It’s all about our personal empowerment, feeling we are both free and equipped/ competent to handle what comes, and the blow back we get from those who want to keep us, for one reason or another, in the dark about our own potentials. The reasons these others want us to remain unaware may not be nefarious, but in some shape or form our uncertainty, dependence, or lack of awareness will serve those others. We’re feeling this friction at the Full Moon, and being presented, particularly in matters that span the Scorpio-Taurus axis of our natal chart, with issues that need to come to conclusion, to be dealt with once and for all. We’ll all be dealing with darknesses that need to come to light.

Other contacts offer details. The Full Moon is semi-square Pallas, either suggesting that something unwise is the trigger to discovery, or that our initial response to what we see at the Full Moon is an unwise or impractical one. The Moon is also novile Zeus; that suggests that somewhere in the Full Moon events is a clever answer to some ambition fulfillment dilemma.

All this occurs as Venus meets Uranus and Mars trines Black Moon Lilith (with some of the possible effects noted in the first paragraph). In particular, this may be a recipe for shocking surprise in relationships, as each acts according to what they are trying to avoid, or what stirs anger, a sort of unintentional lashing out that has roots still very much alive but buried, and so convincing us that we’re ‘over it’.

The key is to control the brew (previously referred to as a potential “hot mess”) so that your sip from the Full Moon cauldron is transformative, is re-making of the House matters where it falls, or of some Scorpionic situation in your life.

The Full Moon Sabian is, ‘The King Of The Fairies Approaching His Domain’. This is an empowerment image, one meant to imply that Full Moon events do happen within our domain (and that’s so even if others insist this isn’t our territory); it’s also meant to point out the role of a ‘light touch’, to reassure that we are in charge, and to suggest something slightly magical or otherworldly in events.

We also look at the Sabian for the Sun as the light source of the Full Moon. ‘A Woman, Past Her “Change Of Life”, Experiences A New Love’. I’ll just go with this: It’s never too late.

Bonus: If you have a natal placement at 18 Virgo or no more than two degrees either side, this fills in a Mystic Rectangle with Neptune and the transiting Nodes. The Full Moon may inspire creative or other real-world efforts that will be life-direction changing for you–just don’t let yourself fall for an illusion, because that, too, could be life-changing.

For those born with the Sun at 27 Taurus. Check your natal chart for the correct Sun degree (you may want to read both the degree number and the one that follows, if you have minutes on your Sun position–together these offer a more complete picture of your year ahead). You are one with the senses and instincts this year, dear Taurus, in a way that can guide you successfully, but that also may allow you to blunder into situations unaware of the true lay of the land. How to listen to guidance without becoming victim to the pitfalls? Be searingly, gut-wrenchingly, no-holds-barred honest with yourself about what you want. Mistakes can only flourish in an artificial environment that is created by artificial thinking, pretense, and perpetuation of a false image. Accidents that affect relationships and fortunes may be the rule rather than the exception this year, and some of these, whether they seem positive or negative, will offer you the chance to heal some long-held wound. Good luck!

‘Mountainous Landscape’ By Albert Bierstadt 19th century {{PD}}

Our ideals or what we honor meets some sort of ‘immovable object’ today. This is something that forces us to acknowledge that what we find sacred may not be universally seen as such–or maybe it’s that we’re committed to something wholeheartedly and yet the reality picture is telling us it’s just not possible to go forward without modifying our commitment. We may feel we’re being told we not only can’t have what we want, that what we value is a worthless investment. The real issue may be a message we’re avoiding hearing, by occupying ourselves with what we’re currently being denied. We want opportunity, but we want it in the form we demand. The reality is this: we can have change, absolutely, we can have new outlets and ways to express, but our beliefs and our ideas about what constitutes the kind of change that offers opportunity must be adjusted to fit reality. In other words, there’s opportunity out there, we just aren’t seeing it because we have expectations about how it’s supposed to look.

If we’re smart we’ll let go of expectations and try to see things in a new way, or at least, try to see things free of our usual lenses and assumptions. We do even better if we’re able to see that beliefs are things we choose, not based on any objective fact but on an explanation that fits our world view at the time. Be willing to consider: there’s not just another way, there are many other ways.

What bothers us in relationships or finances at this time isn’t readily apparent; it’s seated in matters we may have already forgotten, in what we’ve ignored or denied, or in what so enraged us we had to turn away–but now we’ll be thinking about that past, almost obsessively, and how it’s affected the reality picture. There’ll be some interesting results from all this; here’s how to approach things: ignore the power picture, especially how it seems to be playing out or shifting–it’s not something you can change, and may not even be relevant for your purposes; accept that much of what you’re moved to do today is exceptional, whether there’s a genius idea behind it or just the purest of action-urge intents, and that no matter what drives it, it’s likely a very smart thing to do; be willing to adjust ambitions, goals, and desires to the ‘new reality’ you’re perceiving; and quit picking at your psychic scabs! Let them heal.

Today’s word image is the old phrase, “When it rains, it pours.” In what area of your life have you had one thing after another, an inundation of something that may be a bounty, or may be a mountain of issues, one after the other? Has yours been an embarrassment of riches, or a cascade of problems? Or has it been more subtle than that? For me it’s been a series of what seem like bad events, that have actually been blessings in disguise. I believe that the Universe is always working in our favor, and that if we take the time to look, we’ll see the bullet we dodged by not getting what we wanted, and another opportunity presented, that suits us much better.

Check your natal chart for the correct Sun degree (you may want to read both the degree number and the one that follows, if you have minutes on your Sun position–together these offer a more complete picture of your year ahead). Dear Taurus, This year you may find that you are closer to accepting and incorporating into the psyche your instinctive knowledge and intuitive perceptions more completely than ever before. It’s a threshold moment, stretched out over the year between this birthday and the next, and as such, may hold a number of world-altering surprises. Certainly, what occurs this coming year will connect you more strongly to your life purpose, your reason for being here, and that alone will change the direction of your life, as you fine-tune your way forward. Expect to feel lost, and even lonely, now and then, as changes to honor your path will inevitably mean you leave some things and people along the way. But, the result will be personal empowerment of a higher order, rooted in what you genuinely care about. Good luck!

‘Depicting the artist’s daughter Nana and husband Christian Krohg’ By Oda Krohg 1891 {{PD}}

We do and we choose because we care. We’re sensitive to a startling degree and find ourselves taking into consideration things we’d normally not notice, especially as they concern others. This could put the ‘I Am’ in an uncomfortable spot: alert to others’ needs, and feeling a bit alone. What is it that you care enough about that you’re willing to take action? That’s where your attention should go today.

Our relationships and our finances trend in the direction of comfort and security, and somehow that frees our minds–but do we use that freedom to create, to dream, or do we lead ourselves into fantasy or paranoia? Dealing with this may illustrate our biggest issue with Mars in Water: slogging through emotional considerations could slow or even stop action, and we may end up treading water just to keep from being overwhelmed. Here are some remedies: give the mind solid creative outlets, give the ego or action urge a caring cause to support that allows you to be in motion (and prevents subversion of the energy into passive-aggression), and use highest values as a guide to the appropriateness of ambitions–if they clash, then that goal probably isn’t for you.

(Mars enters Cancer, Vesta opp Zeus, Venus enters Taurus, Mercury sxt Neptune. the Nodes and the Zeus-Vesta opposition–along with the Moon for a few hours–forms a Cardinal Cross, making the whole question of life direction, ambition fulfillment, and values a dynamic one being acted out in our lives right now)

For those born with the Sun at 25 Taurus. Check your natal chart for the correct Sun degree (you may want to read both the degree number and the one that follows, if you have minutes on your Sun position–together these offer a more complete picture of your year ahead). Dear Taurus, the emotions light up exactly what you want this solar year, and show you just how to go about getting it–and that means if you’re confused, you’re not seeing or acknowledging what it is that truly excites and attracts you. Honesty is the goal here, with your ability to tell yourself the unvarnished truth that sets the agenda and shapes your fate for some time to come.What’s working for you? Your sense of commitment, your willingness to give all to a cause, your openness to cooperation and collaboration, and your adherence to high standards. What’s working against you? FOMO if you give your all to only one person, area, or thing, an unhealthy relationship either to those in authority or with the idea of power itself, and your adherence to high standards. The reality is, pretty much everything is a two-edged sword–decide which ‘edge’ is the one you want to use. Good luck!

‘Adam and Eve’ By Frank Eugene 1910 {{PD}}

Today we may be so stressed with power issues, with sorting out the ‘rightness’ of our choices and life direction, and/ or in dealing with actual material developments that seem to point out just how out-of-our-control most of the world really is (in terms of us being able to lasso and subdue it), that we may find refuge in more simple things, ones that at another time we’d barely notice. Complementarity, the condition of two like yet distinctly different things by their cooperative interaction bringing out the best in each other, is where we find our peace. Man and Woman, Anima and Animus, Chocolate and Vanilla, Growth and Decay, Laughter and Silence, you get the drift. When it all becomes too much, find a happy counterpart, and relax.

Check your natal chart for the correct Sun degree (you may want to read both the degree number and the one that follows, if you have minutes on your Sun position–together these offer a more complete picture of your year ahead). Is the crisis this coming solar year, through to your next birthday, over Love or Money, and is it because of what you did, or what you didn’t do? Solving this riddle will quite literally give you all you need to know to move forward successfully–and if you feel like this doesn’t apply to you, then you REALLY need to think about it, because it means you’re in the middle of that action or inaction that will cause said crisis. It will also help immensely if you just accept certain things as actually having been positive for you: all the recent changes to your reality picture, all the ways that the rules have changed, all the things that have been ‘taken away’–these are all, yes all, absolutely in your best interest–and accepting them means you will be much better equipped to deal with the Love or Money crisis when it appears (and don’t panic, this ‘crisis’ may actually be ostensibly positive–a lottery win or a new, exciting love interest–but that doesn’t mean it won’t need as much ‘managing’ as any problem). Good luck, Taurus!

This image is a warning not to be fooled by the radically different presentations of two individuals who are actually working together to achieve some end–and specifically, that end involves persuading you do something, hand something over, or agree to something. Whatever you were thinking of agreeing to or signing on with, take a pause and give it another thought.

Every day our world shifts a bit under our feet, we see things appear and disappear from the horizon, our vision is more or less trained to our own short- or long-term expectations, and these are the changes we anticipate, plan for–we’re not even talking about real change, the kind that forces our hand, makes us choose in the moment, or requires us to make a choice that puts one option away for all time. Today our world shifts, but it’s tricky: it changes as we’re creating, healing, or moving closer to our dream. The change may have everything to do with what we’re up to, or it may have nothing to do with it, but almost certainly, we won’t be aware of what’s happening until it’s already over. And that’s okay. We may be asked to change our beliefs, because of it, or to commit assets or talents to that dream, more or more quickly than we thought we would, and we definitely will need to make our ideas of what’s wise and our ideas of empowerment line up. But it’s all for the good–enjoy the day!

Opportunities will be numerous and probably surprising–choose your commitments with care. Good luck!

12 May 2019 Getting The Finger

“Hands #1,” painting by Daniel Maidman, oil on canvas, 24″x24″, 2011 Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Maidman

Today Juno and Mercury-Hygeia form the base to a Finger of God, apex Ceres, and there’s another Finger, with base of Ceres and Pallas, apex Mercury-Hygeia; also keep in mind that Mercury is contra-parallel Black Moon Lilith. Fingers hold a promise: if you can get the two base energies to work together (and the sextile indicates they are disposed to work harmoniously), then your result will be of the nature of the apex placement. Whether that’s good or bad, in your judgment, isn’t stated, but since I believe the Universe is always operating in our favor, I tend to interpret it in a positive light, while still acknowledging that there is a possible down side, as well, represented by the fact that both base energies contact the apex body by quincunx. The quincunx is an angle of contact of 150 degrees, with an orb of no more than 2 degrees in either direction. This relationship between entities always implies discomfort or discord, as each feels a need to adjust expression to the other, typically without finding accommodation. That means that the two harmonious energies that form the base get along, but that the outcome of their combining creates some sort of strife or anxiety, expressed through the apex energy.

In ‘getting’ a Finger configuration, we are offered a dynamic, and its outcome, without specifically laying out how this will be achieved, other than through interaction of the base entities. So, with the apex Ceres Finger, we’ll likely see healthy thinking, either about literal health and nurture or concerning security and safety (Merc-Hygeia in Taurus) as it’s carried out, through our personal venues of empowerment, possibly where we ‘mother’ ourselves or someone it’s our duty to care for (Juno in Cancer). The result is personal authority, a claiming of territory or dominion, especially dominion over another for whom we are responsible (Ceres), and this allows us one of several things: we are empowered to reach out, beyond our normal scope, or we learn or discover the facts, and bolster our power that way, or with this result we see our belief in our right to have power reinforced, or we may find ourselves empowered to negotiate in a way we haven’t been able to before. The result is power enhancement that carries a Sagittarian tone–but, what we have to keep in mind is that this doesn’t arise smoothly out of the sextile, but comes instead from some sort of discomfort generated by our need to know, to express power, to acknowledge our belief and its ‘rightness’–that is, to express Ceres in Sagittarius–with the possible implication that this isn’t nurturing or ‘healthy’, as we’ve been expressing these qualities.

The Finger apex Merc-Hygeia is based on the power of knowing, information, outreach, belief, or in vested authority (Ceres in Sag) blended with the wisdom of cooperation, diplomacy, and partnership (Pallas in Libra). Together, these create a way of thinking about material assets, comfort, supplies, security, or talent expression (Mercury in Taurus) that arises out of some discord between the personal authority we hold (Ceres) and what’s wise (Pallas) and may bring into question whether our efforts are ‘healthy’ or not (Hygeia–and that means healthy in the way those efforts do or don’t harmonize with our current ideas of what’s wise, or what’s a positive expression of our power). The contra-parallel of Mercury to Black Moon Lilith adds dimension; our thinking may be plagued by all that we’ve been ignoring or denying, or we may find ourselves enraged by the fact that we must even question our ideas of our own privilege, the concepts of cooperation and partnership, or what, in the overall scheme of things, is truly wise.

For those born with the Sun at 22 Taurus. The world is your oyster this coming Solar year, through to your next birthday, Taurus, as long as you can bring yourself to cooperate with those who can ‘make it happen’ for you. That means you’ll need to know the score, have a good grasp of the facts, and be optimistic, even if that’s not your natural default. Fairness will be of paramount importance, so don’t ignore the needs of others, and do set needed limits and claim your power as your own. Being unafraid to make changes may be key, and don’t balk at carrying a little more responsibility–that leads to both more complete understanding and more extensive control. Good luck!
