Rejoice! Rejoice! We have no choice

—Crosby, Stills, and Nash

The AstroEssence: I know! I can seem very negative–but then, you shouldn’t bother reading my assessments of the daily influences if you only want the sunny side of things, or if you think only some parts of life are ‘spiritual’, and others not–we have an intangible essence (the Soul, if you will) that’s having a material experience–how can everything we do not be a reflection of the spirit? And that’s my lead-in to today’s perfecting aspect set, which consistently warns us against our own destructive, rebellious, erratic, impulsive, ego-centered, negative impulses (whew!). Within we feel the urge toward empowerment, toward making our mark, having our say, expressing ourselves, but it goes awry; it seems the most easily shifted, independent urges within us are front and center in a way that sees spirit, mind, and heart suffering as we set out to express and end up rebelling, destroying, or just plain insisting things must be done our way. Thoughts may foster acting from wounds, in retaliation or response, and relationships shake our power foundations, not actually threatening them so much as making us question them–and really, today, it is our own mind, rather than circumstances or others, doing a number on us. Be willing to adjust: thinking, to what we know to be wise–we know what’s smart, it’s a matter of letting go of our contrariness long enough to follow that wisdom–as well as be willing to confront those things that we are choosing that are detrimental to our well-being, and to mellow what are inclined to be knee-jerk actions or responses into something a little more impersonal–again, the smart thing to do, say, or be is known, we just have to do it. And don’t worry; by tomorrow attitudes will become much more grounded, and restraint will allow us to give positive form to our actions, choices, and Will (Hygeia sq Pluto and contra-parallel Uranus, Mars sesq Uranus, Venus semi-sq Juno, Merc contra-parallel Chiron and qnx Pallas)

Today’s word image is the empty lot in the Greenwood neighborhood of Seattle where Neptune Coffee used to be. A gas explosion in March of this year destroyed a handful of businesses and blew out windows in a two block radius; the Neptune was leveled. Luckily it happened in the early morning hours when the fewest number of people were in what is usually a heavily trafficked area, and there were no fatalities, only minor injuries. But, walking by the empty lot can be haunting, and it brings to mind this: what good thing in your life has been wiped out or removed in a shocking way, and it’s been long enough that the hole it left now just seems like part of the landscape? We can learn to live with anything; the trick is not letting awareness of what we’ve lost slip away.

For those born with the Sun at 1 Virgo: health is at the core of all you attend to this year, Leo: physical well-being, financial, emotional, spiritual, all areas of life are vetted for balance, vigor, and sustainability. Some hints on making the most of things: don’t let your imagination fill in the blanks–stick to facts and realities; make sure the emotional perceptions receive attention, with an emphasis on security and comfort–this is important, as the emotions will, temporarily, drive the life direction; and don’t allow your instincts and inner knowledge to be drowned out by the social sphere. Good luck, Leo, and Happy Birthday!

Saturnino Herrán – La cosecha, 1909 {{PD}}

The AstroEssence: our attention is on what’s wrong (this has been a trend, lately, right?), on what’s dark, hidden (but then, how do we know something’s there if it’s hidden?), on the unhealthy, the destructive, and any sense of change, as it likely strikes us as decay or deliberate waste. We may fully embrace this preoccupation with the intention of assessing issues and fixing them, but between an inclination to misjudge or misread our own values (yes, it can be done, when we are not processing experiences along most characteristic lines) and the tendency to both exaggerate and see shadows where there are none, we are best off delaying any critiques and plan-making for a later time. Best approach: focus on ‘the facts’, don’t fight obviously inevitable change, and keep what you hope to accomplish (in the form of ‘the harvest’) perpetually in mind (Vesta semi-sq Sedna and trine Neptune, Merc conj Jupiter, the Sun enters Virgo, semi-sq Hygeia and sesq Pluto)

Today’s word image is bocce balls. I don’t know much about bocce; my only association is with the courts that were always busy in San Diego’s Balboa Park. At the time it struck me as something only old people would play, but now I think I was mistaking more gentle exertion as automatically only appealing to those who were unable to do anything more strenuous, an idea I’ve since learned isn’t valid. What ‘game’ might you be dismissing as irrelevant to you, that it might behoove you not just to learn the rules for, but perhaps consider participating in?

For those born with the Sun at 0 Virgo: all the action this year, Virgo, through to your next birthday, will be centered on issues of identity and matters of the natal House where the Sun is posited. You may be accused of navel-gazing or being Selfish, but really, you need to take this time for yourself, to sort through and be sure about who you are and who you want to be–it’s the only way you’ll be able to wrap your head around what’s slated, and just beginning to show itself, for your future. Good luck, Leo, and Happy Birthday!

Your Weekend 20-21 August 2016 Trends Are Deceptive

‘Four Loves I found, a Woman, a Child, a Horse and a Hound’
George Spencer Watson 1922 {{PD}}

The AstroEssence for the 20th: we may suffer an odd combination of influences that could easily steer us wrong: one concerns how thoughts are focused on what isn’t happening/ working in fulfillment of ambitions and wants; the other is a rejection of what we know to be wise, smart, practical, or that involves a refusal to use our already-learned skills, and this rejection/ refusal is seated in some aspect of our current identity or Self-image. Together the two tracks converge so that we may make some poor or mistaken choices out of frustration or a wish not to acknowledge who, exactly, we are. If hiding in a closet or some sunless hole isn’t possible (and who wants to do that, anyway?) our best bet may be conscious Self-acceptance (no matter how that may make us cringe over denied character traits or experience), along with a vow to let go of judgement, a tendency that comes far too easily with Mercury’s transit of Virgo (Merc semi-sq Black Moon Lilith, Sun opp Pallas)

All in white, she looks like she knows a thing or two. Alfredo Andersen - 'Retrato de Guigui' {{PD}}

All in white, she looks like she knows a thing or two. Alfredo Andersen – ‘Retrato de Guigui’ {{PD}}

Today’s word image is the color white (technically all color!) I realized this as, in asking myself what the word image is, I saw a series of white animals, birds, and objects, and then realized that at least the past two images had been white things, too (a stork and an egg), at least as they were envisioned. We may have personal associations with the color, or cultural ones; some see white as indicating purity, fidelity, or innocence, while some link it to death, or to sacrifice, or to sterility, coldness, or authority (as in the wearing of a white coat to signify status in a health setting, for instance)–and of course your own preferences and experiences will figure in to the meaning of white for you, whether it’s the ideas attached to the color, or whether it points out something that is that color and offers further meaning. At the very least, use it as a marker of synchronicity or of being ‘in the flow’ when you observe it.

For those born with the Sun at 28 Leo: you may spend a good part of your year, Leo, through to your next birthday adjusting to new emotional circumstances or truths–and these changes can’t help but affect who you are, causing a drawn out period of modification and accommodation that is especially personal. You have a good sense of what’s smart, what’s practical, right now, and should use it as you go forward, as little else will offer guidance, and you could feel lost if you don’t embrace and accept your current reality. Good luck, Leo, and Happy Birthday!

Pieter Bruegel the Elder - 'The Tower of Babel' 1563 {{PD}}

Pieter Bruegel the Elder – ‘The Tower of Babel’ 1563 {{PD}}

The AstroEssence for the 21st: It’s a terrible thing when our reasoning and our social role both fall into our blind spot, leaving neither our own minds nor our usual patterns and responsibilities as reliable guides. Relationships don’t help, either, as we’re in the midst of greater or lesser power struggles that permeate even the most benign exchanges. What we can do is use sensitivities not related to the mind (intuition, feeling, those 6th, 7th, and 8th senses! etc); these will bring invaluable info as long as we acknowledge our own power wants and those territories we wish to claim as our own–if we don’t admit what we want, the feeling nature will lead us astray. Compounding perceptual difficulties is the way facts just won’t speak of realities, at this time–be prepared for that (Mercury and Jupiter trine Sedna, though Merc and Jup don’t perfect their conjunction until the 22nd, Venus sesq Ceres)

Still Life with Fish by William Merritt Chase, c. 1910 {{PD}}

Still Life with Fish by William Merritt Chase, c. 1910 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a fish ready to be filleted. What does that bring to mind? Anticipation of a good dining experience? Revulsion at eating something with a face? The fish is a symbol of Christianity; to fillet it may be to ‘take the backbone’ out of a religious viewpoint. If you’re an astrologer you may think of Pisces, and wonder what it means if only one of the symbol pair is gutted. A fish was one of Vishnu’s incarnations, again suggesting a connection to divinity. We could go on and on, since the fish carries so much symbolism. This one, though, has been ‘fished for’, ‘caught’, and is now being ‘prepared’–is there anything like that in your life, that may need to be seen for what it really is?

For those born with the Sun at 29 Leo: though it may not seem like it, eventually emotions catch up with the rest of you, and internal harmony is restored; you’ll likely take action repeatedly until you feel balanced. You think big and use discernment; make sure it doesn’t devolve into petty criticism and over-concern with detail. The creative may become an outlet for feelings and perceptions ignored or denied–that can be very good, if you know how to shape and direct those energies, or very bad, if they end up deceiving you or others. Good luck, Leo, and Happy Birthday!

The AstroEssence: in the light of the recent Full Moon, we honor our own power, we see how that over which we have dominion must be adjusted or changed, and we are able to visualize our own version of ‘perfect health’, and so implant a guideline within the unconscious; the mind is very receptive to positive input at this time, though conscious adjustment to anything too radical or unusual may be required. Visualization, spiritual practice (which is really life, isn’t it?), exploring our own inventiveness and originality, and efforts that honor our own responsibilities and our ability to affect our world are favored (Vesta trine Ceres, Neptune parallel Hygeia, Saturn qnx Vesta, Mercury opp Chiron and qnx Uranus)

Joseph Crawhall III 'Stork' {{PD}}

Joseph Crawhall III ‘Stork’ {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a stork wading in a river. As a child the only time I heard storks mentioned was with that puzzling idea that storks delivered babies in little slings, like takeout burritos; as an adult I saw them nesting at the tops of chimneys in the Netherlands, and suddenly the story that they could slip in and bring a baby made a little more sense. Is there something you find curious that might make a lot more sense if you knew its origins? And how do you sort that from something that has no explanation? If we approach everything in life as having a reason for being, no matter how obscure or nonsensical, then we in essence cast a vote for a Universe that not only makes sense but has reasons for being the way it is–which should put your mind at ease.

For those born with the Sun at 27 Leo: you may find yourself acting under an influence this year that is very difficult to pin down: you could insist on behaving in ways contradictory to what you know to be smart. The sense of unthinking rebellion, of push-back toward everything you’ve been led to believe was wise or practical, has its roots in the way you have recently consistently denied what your instincts have told you. Alienating yourself from your own inner knowing can only be remedied by trusting yourself once again–and that requires letting go of what or whomever you have substituted as guide. You can do it. Good luck, Leo, and Happy Birthday!

A Summer Shower, by Charles Edward Perugini 1888 {{PD}}

A Summer Shower, by Charles Edward Perugini 1888 {{PD}}

The AstroEssence of the 17th and 18th, and the Lunar Essence of the Full Moon in Aquarius: Leading up to the Full Moon we are faced with a question: Are we changed by Love, Money, or secrets revealed about values or assets, or are we the agent of change in areas of Love, in finances, in the keeping or spilling of secrets, or in recognizing a change in our values, and so changing how we relate? Since Earth signs are involved (Venus trine Pluto), we should expect a material, or at least tangible, impact; we may be ‘undone’, with some Venusian aspect of life devastated, destroyed, or transformed (don’t panic, this may be a good thing!) This fundamental change sets the stage for the conclusion, end, or completion associated with the Full Moon, 2:25 AM PDT of the 18th at 25 Aquarius 51. This is a near miss, an almost eclipse, and the impact we feel may be as much the Venus-Pluto aspect that precedes the Lunar event (as it leaves us reeling and yet unsure of what hit us) as it is the pull of the Full Moon itself.

This Full Moon, along with Uranus, forms the base for a Finger of God, with apex Jupiter. Should we also include Mercury, which is conjoined Jupiter and within orb of Uranus, but not the Full Moon? It’s a tough call, but I’m inclined to say Yes, as proximity to the other elements of the Finger means Mercurial energy will enter in some form–it just may not be what it seems. That is, we may believe we have come by rational means to a concluding belief, decision to expand, teach, or learn, or concerning a social role (Jupiter)–but the mind may simply be a means of translating our perceptions at the level of Higher Mind (Uranus) that is revealed through events of this Aquarian FM. This suggests it may be Higher Mind inspired feeling (Aquarius Moon) that is really running the show, not the cogitations of our limited, trapped-in-three-dimensions brains. Awareness of this will make us more open to spontaneity and give us confidence in our own choices (both Uranus in Aries) and this in turn allows a more attuned experience than does being overly-focused on our thinking and the illusion of control this inevitably gives.

Different fingers. Pink Sherbet Photography from USA - 'Happy Finger Friends Love' by D Sharon Pruitt CC BY 2.0

Different fingers. Pink Sherbet Photography from USA – ‘Happy Finger Friends Love’ by D Sharon Pruitt CC BY 2.0

Too, let’s note the way Chiron is caught at the midpoint of the Finger’s base; since the opposition with Jupiter is separating, the implication may be that the dynamic of the Finger begins with a wound, or with an instance of healing, that then spurs the Higher Mind understanding that melds with the FM event to offer that Jupiterian result.

The Full Moon is also apex to a loose Fist of God (or Thor’s Hammer, for you Vikings) with base of Vesta and Hygeia. This may take us further back in time, to where an instance or pattern of not honoring our health (the Cardinal square between Vesta and Hygeia) helps bring about the Full Moon event–which, as you know, is likely to be related to matters of the House where the Full Moon falls.

A novile is formed by the Full Moon to Pluto, and the Sun/ Earth-Moon axis squares Sedna, creating a T-square. A sense of rebellion from what is instinctual may combine with a deep urge toward destruction and change–this makes a kind of engine for the configurations to run on, generating some deep conflict and energizing our embrace of change. We may reject or find unacceptable our usual, unprocessed response, and the conflict this engenders, along with an advantageous glimpse of what things might be like with the upsetting factors gone, eliminated, or reformed, is enough to make all the rest spring into action.

 Elefantino di Giulia Orecchia Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International

Elefantino di Giulia Orecchia Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International

And now we need to examine the elephant in the room. Her name is Pallas, and she’s conjoined the Full Moon in Aquarius. This suggests that everything involved with the Full Moon is a measure or test of our wisdom and practicality, as well as our skills and ability to apply them. This theme will loom large, and yet we won’t necessarily be seeing events, feelings, urges, and our responses to them as a test-taking or assessment–that only comes later, when the conclusion that is unavoidable with a Full Moon event makes it clear we wound up where we are because of what we consider smart, what we know, and how practical our ultimate orientation.

The Sabian symbol for 26 Aquarius (remember, we read up) is, ‘A Garage Man Testing A Car’s Battery With A Hydrometer’. This emphasizes the mechanism of testing, which we’ve already discussed. A battery is Uranian, while the hydrometer points toward the importance of feeling and so the Water signs involved: Chiron in Pisces, and one part of the Fist base, in Cancer. Both these signs are volatile emotionally, at least in part because the barriers between the individual and the Collective/ Others is blurred, even as we ‘test’ it from our own unique expressions of Will and viewpoint (Uranus in Aries). This could imply that if we are having a hard time processing our own feelings surrounding this FM, we may divert our emotions into a Big Picture expression, one that allows us to express but doesn’t risk quite so much emotional exposure, even to ourselves.

We also look at the Sun’s Sabian with a Full Moon, simply because it is the origin of all light, and so enables perception. ‘After The Heavy Storm, A Rainbow’. So, whatever troubles are stirred at this time, we can be assured it’s for the good, or at the very least, that it will all work out positively.

The only aspects not addressed by the FM are Venus’ contra-parallel to Zeus and parallel to the North Node; these add a flavor of drama, wherein relationships, values, or finances push back on our ambitions, and where we struggle to reconcile wants with maintenance of what we care about. It’s easy to see that this will add tension to the feeling nature, and again make us work to figure things out, rather than allowing Higher Mind to possess us for a time.

(Perfecting on respective days: Venus trine Pluto/ Pallas sesq Hygeia, Venus contra-parallel Zeus and parallel NN, Sun sq Sedna)

Odilon Redon - L'oeuf 1884 {{PD}}

Odilon Redon – L’oeuf 1884 {{PD}}

The word image for both days is a peeled, hard-boiled egg. We’re always talking about ‘potential’, especially in terms of our own lives and our own creativity. An egg is potential itself, but hard-boiling it captures potential and turns it into solid mass; it is what it is, at that moment–there’s no more room for development. The events of this Full Moon may show us that certain things can no longer remain (at least in our minds) in that state of potential; they will have already hardened, taken shape, and so must be accepted, used, dealt with as they are.

For those born with the Sun at 25 Leo: speaking of potential, you are fairly bursting with it–but what you need to know is that making the most of it won’t come easily: you will be tempted to fight every instinct and the deep, rhythmic primordial knowledge of life itself as it attempts to guide and inform you. Why would you resist that? It could be that you’ve come to believe too strongly in your own individuality; it’s time to acknowledge that there are forces out there bigger than you, and that they want to help. Good luck, Leo, and Happy Birthday!

For those born with the Sun at 26 Leo: a lot of things have come to an end recently, and you move into a new emotional ‘day’, with all the optimism that can offer. You’ve learned a great deal; we could say you’ve become wise, from all you’ve experienced. It’s time to take what you know and apply it in the smartest way possible; all that you know will coalesce to create a kind of ‘magic touch’ that, with even minimal effort, will manifest exactly what you’re aiming for. Good luck, Leo, and Happy Birthday!

‘Jim, Long John Silver and his Parrot’ by N. C. Wyeth from 1911 edition of ‘Treasure Island’ {{PD}}

The AstroEssence: If we follow our instincts and/ or minds, we end up in unhealthy territory; relationships, financial matters, or as-yet unrenovated values lead us back to the past, in some way, and this makes us inclined to take up old ‘wounded’ or rebellious or erratic ways of processing current events. It may feel as if all our ‘buttons’ are being pushed at once. We’ve got to remember two things right now: we abandoned those from-the-past means of handling things because they were wounded expressions, and so unproductive–and we know better now, precisely because we’ve learned from what we’ve already experienced. Don’t let a small hurt couple with an urge to go rogue, because all we’ll get is a toxic blow-up of greater or lesser proportions. Channel energy into innovation, original expression, and the willingness to lead (if you’re usually a follower) or follow (if you usually lead)–and with this last concerning one’s position within the group, if you take what you think is the opposite of your usual role and it doesn’t work out, you can be sure that you’ve been thinking of your place in things all wrong (Hygeia qnx SN, Pallas contra-parallel Black Moon Lilith, Venus parallel Sedna and contra Hygeia, Merc parallel Chiron, Sun qnx Chiron and trine Uranus)

Today’s word image is really a question: When ‘the dream’ is realized, manifest right in front of us, do we recognize it? This may be the hardest step in the process, knowing when to shift gears and acknowledge that we’ve gotten exactly what we wanted.

For those born with the Sun at 24 Leo: Your year may begin in some way that feels especially emotionally punishing, in a kind of ‘damned if you do, damned if you don’t’ scenario, but this matter quickly goes to a higher plane and takes an intellectual form, and how you face this sets the tone for the rest of the year, which features: the most amazing circumstances through which to display your originality, your inventiveness, and your mental brilliance; and a bit of a tightrope that requires you to adjust yourself to avoid hurt. Jan Brueghel I -‘ A wooded landscape with travelers on a path’ c1607 {{PD}}

The AstroEssence: Today we all glimpse (or are immersed in, or struck by) the beauty of the Path we’ve chosen; we see the particular grace our life direction offers us, the way relationships have shown us exactly what we needed to learn and experience, and we also see the cost of our choices. It’s a day of revelation, one that prompts actions that transform our world–and these expressions of power both repudiate something we refuse to follow or accept that is required by society at large (this something is likely related to matters of the House Jupiter is currently transiting in the natal chart), and show what we care about, what we love, and this is done at least in part by our rejection of the unreal, the deceptive, or the delusional. Self-acceptance of our own unique viewpoint allows a healing of sorts, and makes our choices and actions especially effective (Jup contra-parallel Juno, Mars nov Pluto, Venus conjoined the NN and contra-parallel Neptune, Merc parallel Ceres and semi-sq Juno, Sun semi-sq Vesta)

By Jon – Flickr: Ultimate Sand Castle, CC BY 2.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=13294831

Today’s word image is a sandcastle. This is a good symbolic approximation of life itself: we build with the tiniest bits of material, time, and experience, our creations simple or elaborate, many-chambered or uncomplicated, we put in a little effort or a lot, and the elements wear down our creation, in an instant or slowly, over time. What does your sandcastle look like, and what does it say about your choices, and your life?

For those born with the Sun at 23 Leo: if you don’t adjust your behaviors and/ or use your talents, you will find yourself wounded at some point during the year between now and your next birthday. I can’t really pinpoint what will occur, only that you’re on a course that implies your own inflexibility will cause your grief–but, if you can follow your best impulses toward originality, and can find a place within, leadership role of, or willingly cooperate with ‘the group’, you can pull from yourself something truly rewarding and perfectly unique–your own highly meaningful contribution to the world. Good luck, Leo, and Happy Birthday!

The AstroEssence for the 13th: Though there is a broad theme of the individual v. the social order, when we squint (a modest ‘correction’ to our perceptions) we find that the struggle is actually a mental one within our own minds. The heart of it is our attitude toward authority in general, and the quirks and resistance we impose on current power relationships that echoes unresolved issues with those at one time in charge of us, particularly Mom. There are a few things we can be sure of, and which can act as rough guides to our choices: being hurt over what we’ve chosen to ignore or deny is, besides being nonsensical, just Self-defeating; being erratic or unreliable creates losses; ‘thinking big’ may help us overcome limitations; and if we experience a dust-up with authorities (or those who see themselves this way), we should examine the situation for the possibility we’ve projected our inner struggle, superimposing it on an interaction or relationship–the ‘blame game’ won’t do any good, and may keep us from resolving our inner quandary, which will only invite more discord and foster further power struggles until claimed and resolved (Chiron sesq Black Moon Lilith, Jup qnx Uranus, Mars qnx Ceres, Venus sesq Uranus and sq Saturn, Merc parallel Jupiter)

Saturn goes direct and just as it does, Venus completes a square to it; the sense may be that we are just now seeing what stands in the way of Love, happiness, Money, or values realization. The direction and Venus contact brings a dawning, and the temptation may be to become hyper-critical (Venus in Virgo) of what we desire, or bitter toward those who stand in our way; we’d be better served questioning how much of what we think has really just been accepted wholesale from the social circle. Important to note: the upcoming square of Saturn to Neptune promises that these difficulties with Venusian subjects pave the way for effective (though not necessarily easy) realization or materialization of a dream, ideal, or spiritual goal (Neptune).

Today’s word image is a penguin. What does this bring to mind? A ‘scheme’ in black and white (suggesting an odd combination of extremes)? Some kind of cartoon stereotype anthropomorphizing them? ‘March of the Penguins’ (sad alert!)? The ‘Batman’ villain (and then, is he the natty Burgess Meredith version, or the slimy Danny DeVito version)? It’s likely most of us have only seen these animals in zoos–which effectively makes them a kind of unicorn, something we experience only in an artificial (zoo) and rarefied (in their home in the Antarctic region) environment, so something that may feel in some essential way unreal. Unless you are a zoologist specializing in order Sphenisciformes, family Spheniscidae, you probably hold some unrealistic, quaint, or fanciful ideas about penguins; look around for that thing in your life it feels you are familiar with, that it seems you know so much about, and question your assumptions and the image you impose, under the principle it’s better to know what something really is, than to carry and respond to the illusions in your head.

For those born with the Sun at 21 Leo: Emotional harmony and continuity will be strong this year, with actions easily in concert with aims, and ‘knowing’ through the feeling nature almost a given. By late in the year, nearer to your next birthday, though, you may be seriously hurt, forced to access inner wisdom or to take a practical approach in order to deal with the wound–but it all leads to a wiser, more mature You. Good luck, Leo, and Happy Birthday!

The AstroEssence for the 14th: Here we see that ideas concerning Venusian matters are dealt with and the new understanding applied to the dream, in preparation for the material manifestation or spiritual realization promised at the perfection of the Saturn-Neptune square (see The Saturn Direction under the 13th). We find the most profitable and beneficial concepts connected to our own uniqueness and originality, and likely will experience these ideas as personally empowering, though they may stir up trouble with authorities or even Mother Nature–just know it probably can’t be helped, as our ‘mental contrariness’ somehow shines through (Venus parallel Uranus and opp Neptune, Merc contra-parallel Juno and sesq Ceres)

327px-Alice_drink_meToday’s word image is a bottle marked ‘Drink Me’ (shades of Alice in Wonderland!) What’s in the bottle? Your poison, whatever that may be in life. Your job is to either say ‘No’ to it (a true rejection that captures no part of the spirit, as occurs when one resists, rather than feels indifferent or willingly lets go), or to consume it and through your own power and purity transform it, making it harmless. You know the best choice for you–do one or the other, and don’t knock the bottle off the table, thinking that breaking it removes the temptation–you wouldn’t be the first to take desperate measures to try to rescue what’s all wrong for you.

For those born with the Sun at 22 Leo: Fate has something difficult in store for you, but it will only seem like a problem while you’re waiting for your thinking to catch up with developments; after that, you experience a year of practical advances and the building of profitable circumstances. Good luck, Leo, and Happy Birthday!

I’m sorry to say I won’t be doing individual eclipse reports for the September events. Thank you to everyone who inquired–I very much appreciate your interest, and do plan on offering eclipse reports in future. I will be publishing general readings for both the Solar and Lunar eclipses of September here on the blog soon, so keep an eye out for that! In the meantime, read! And if you’re a frequent flyer here, please consider donating to support my work here on the blog, or writing a wee review of my books once you’ve read them at Good Reads. Thanks!

 Enjoy your weekend!

It’s a trap!

. . . and by ‘trap’ I mean we will sincerely believe we have a clear intellectual grasp and a wise perspective–but health matters (mental, emotional, physical, but especially spiritual ones) cloud instincts and obscure access to inner knowledge, and social pressures could cause us to ignore hurt and sweep matters in need of attention under the rug, only adding to our being out-of-touch in a way that might not be obvious–and if we are aware of some disconnect, we may be too strongly tempted to deny it, just to feel we’re moving forward. Wounds of which we’re not entirely conscious may push us to mark territory, exert our Will over others, and just generally posture as authorities–but we would do far better to abandon the standards of the social order in favor of dealing with hidden, ignored, or denied matters, or those that enrage us, especially as they affect relationships. Embracing those matters we’d rather turn away from will pay off, whether right now we are in a position to see how that will happen or not. Adding to this is a very loose Water Grand Trine involving Neptune, Vesta, and Black Moon Lilith=we are prevented from knowing just how much we are in denial of, or avoiding, and we may see dodging issues as vital to our survival–an exaggeration that justifies our desire to turn away! Indulging in this may be Self-defeating, in the worst sense. And that’s the AstroEssence (Perfecting today: Hygeia sesq Sedna, Pallas enters Gemini, Chiron nov Ceres, Neptune qnx Hygeia, Jupiter semi-sq Black Moon Lilith and opp Chiron, Venus sxt BML)

Today’s word image is–oh, you’re going to love this, after ‘teeth’ yesterday–it’s a butterfly with teeth! This comic image combines something that is seen as lovely but essentially harmless–in fact, unable to defend itself–with a symbol of both the ability to defend (who wants to get bitten?) and the ability to process, to consume, to assimilate and do. This may speak to a fear many people have: of being ‘beautiful’ but almost helpless, certainly losing an edge of aggression and dynamism, after spiritual transformation–that is, after going from what we imagine is a caterpillar (ordinary) to a butterfly (extraordinary). We tend to confuse spiritual advancement (itself a misnomer–maybe it should be ‘spiritual experiences’, which we would otherwise call ‘life’) as an end-game that brings a kind of beatific passivity, all sunshine and smiles, all troubles swept away. Whether we make these assumptions in terms of the spiritual journey or something more materially-oriented (career development, perhaps), there are a few things to consider: we don’t simply go from one static extreme to another–not only is development not so one-dimensional, it’s also non-linear–we can easily be a butterfly one moment and back to a caterpillar the next–and certainly, spiritual development is meant to advance understanding, which in itself is both a kind of armor, and an attitude that is much more accepting of the cyclic nature of life, as well as of the life-death-life that we see in the continuous round of simultaneous growth and decay. The fear is unnecessary, and reveals itself to be so as the spirit truly begins to grasp that defenses aren’t actually necessary, because the Universe never attacks.

Sun_and_Moon_Nuremberg_chronicleFor those born with the Sun at 20 Leo: the sense of being solitary, even in the midst of a crowd, may be strong for you through the first two-thirds of the year, heading toward your next birthday. Connecting may be an issue, and your ego may get in your way. ‘Emotional knowledge’, learning about emotional realities and understanding the complexities of feeling within your situation, are on the agenda–and will result in a splendid emotional harmony arriving in that final third of the year, the kind of positive feeling that will allow you to act in perfect concert with your identity, Soul needs, and intentions. Good luck, Leo, and Happy Birthday!

11 August 2016 Shape Your Lust!

The AstroEssence: We find unique and effective ways of gaining, ways that directly fulfill ambitions and desires, that may use relationships, talents, or assets in order to accomplish our goals, and that pay off one way or another–and it all goes down smoothly, almost effortlessly, as if ‘luck’ is with us, or these positive developments are ‘meant to be’ in a big picture sense–and maybe they are. There’s beauty in acknowledging our desires, and sharing our goals with others–they just might want to help you attain them. Take care in interactions, though, as lust can get away from us–the choices are to shape it consciously or be driven by it unconsciously–and unthinking advances or expressions of want could be the order of the day (Perfecting today: Venus nov Zeus)

Today’s word image is teeth! We all have very particular associations with teeth, whether we think of our own, those of animals (sharks!), or the many sayings involving them: ‘take a bite out of’ or ‘bit off more than one can chew’, ‘the gnashing of teeth’, ‘tooth and nail’, or stories like how George Washington had wooden teeth, how people used to tie a string from a rotten tooth to a door knob and then slam it to remove, or the biosociological concept of baring teeth to frighten others (yet the human smile is supposed to mean the opposite), etc. The interesting thing is that when we think of teeth as symbols we see that most of our references to them refer to two concepts: either consumption, or tension/ aggression. Then there are dreams about teeth, with Edgar Cayce describing teeth as our thoughts and words, with dreams of loose or lost teeth as signaling regret for what we’ve said. Look at the first few ideas that pop into your mind when you think of teeth, and what these may say about both your viewpoint and what you may choose to ‘sink your teeth into’.

For those born with the Sun at 19 Leo: the early part of your year, counting through to your next birthday, may be spent in unusual moves meant to deal with feelings that seem hurtful and out-of-control. If you can hold back from overreacting (that is, realize that emotional responses are exaggerated in your mind), you may find that living with the feelings can open up some original creative approaches to both problems and Self-expression, ones that can open up your world and take what you create and what you do to a new level. Good luck, Leo, and Happy Birthday!
