I’m now using Whole Sign charts; previous analyses used Placidus. Go to the ECLIPSE chart page and scroll down for Knox and Meredith Kercher’s charts together.

I did say I would look a little more at the case of Amanda Knox, who yesterday had her murder conviction upheld by an Italian court. The transits are set for 3 PM local time (Seattle), which is approximately when word came down that a decision had been rendered. To my understanding Knox gets an automatic appeal of this decision; only if she loses on the subsequent appeal would extradition be on the table.

On examining the natal chart and transits, we see a few striking things, the most telling of which to my mind is the conjunction of the transiting North Node to the natal Vertex, with only an 8 minute gap. That implies this entire process is unquestionably her fate, no matter what the final outcome; think of it as playing a role–we all have these scenarios–this is hers.

There’s a Water Grand Trine formed by t Jupiter, t Juno-Chiron, and Amanda’s natal Pallas. We see a broadcasting of hurt and its effect on empowerment, freedom (Jupiter) threatened–certainly one loses both freedom and empowerment when imprisoned–but the contact to Knox’s natal Pallas implies she knows the wisdom of what’s happening, or perhaps of this particular ruling. This may be nothing more than her recognition of that role indicated by the NN-Vertex contact, or it could be the expected result, from her point of view–or it could even be the unstated recognition of the appropriateness of the ruling, should she in fact be guilty. In any case, this is playing out on an emotional plane (the Water element)

The New Moon occurred in Amanda’s 9th; not surprising that a ruling in a foreign country opens a whole new chapter for her. t Zeus creates a T-square with the Sun-Earth axis=we’re seeing the results, material and spiritual, of the desire nature acting out–but does this say she’s guilty, and that the ruling is the result of her own choices, or that the desires of the Italian prosecution are bringing conflict to her Soul and Material Purposes? It could be either.

We also see a Mixed Element Grand Trine of t Ceres and Mercury, both at 29 degrees of their respective signs, in aspect to Amanda’s Chiron-Vesta conjunction in the 1st, and out-of-element to her natal Venus in the 2nd–in fact, the midpoint of her placements is the 29 degree point that fills in the Trine perfectly. ‘A stressful message from authorities, who are themselves under stress’ certainly describes the transiting energies; this impacts Knox’s sense of herself as a woman, her Self-worth picture, her relationships, and her finances, as well as a sense of herself as wounded that she may consider sacred (Chiron-Vesta). But, a GT carries an implication of energy balance, and this could suggest that the situation allows Knox to express those affected natal characteristics effectively and perhaps Self-righteously, as well. After all, the most effective defense against a charge of murder (the attitude that makes you most believable in your denial of responsibility) may be your own view of yourself as a victim whose status as such is sacred, not to be questioned.

t Mercury at 29 tense degrees of Aquarius also quincunxes natal Mars in Leo; Amanda’s ego may be frustrated by what’s being communicated–when the court’s speaking, she’s not in control of the message. t Neptune is within orb of her n Juno in the 10th, and t Mars is also sesquiquadrate=she may feel she’s under attack, and be confused about her reputation, about the impression she makes, about what may actually be empowering to her and what isn’t, and perhaps she may be prone at this time (while Neptune lingers) to partner with others who may raise her status but not truly serve her cause (a la Juno).

t Neptune also fills in a Grand Trine with Amanda’s natal Venus and Pluto=illusion, Truth, and beauty are evenly matched at this point. Since this Pluto and Venus both belong to Knox natally, it seems it will be the function of Neptune, strong in its own sign, to sort it out. Truth (and maybe rage) express through her values, her relationships to people and money, and her idea of herself as a woman, but Neptune’s presence may exaggerate the ‘mirror’ quality Knox has anyway, and make current opinions reflective of what each of us thinks we see. It also could imply that, until Neptune moves on, we may have no chance at getting to the truth.

t Sedna is apex to a Finger of God with base of n Ceres-Uranus-Moon in 7th (drawing a picture of someone who may believe that all the authority, privilege to act as one pleases, and emotional sensitivity belongs to others) sextile t Mars. The Finger takes that natal complex, combines it with aggression both given and received, and concludes that this will create both a primal result (speaking to the deepest held urges and qualities) and that these factors may obscure who’s really attacking whom.

My sense is that Knox is at a crucial point: she has many energies working in her favor right now, especially ones related to being able to create, if not precisely the image she wants to, then one that obscures the reality picture. This won’t last forever; the cover of Neptune and the ‘blind spot’ of Sedna will move on, and she will appear differently to onlookers–the question is, what will they see when the influences change?

Saturn in Scorpio is currently opposed Sedna in Taurus, and by the 25th Mercury will cap off a neat little T-square with these two. Add to this Mars quincunx Sedna (also by the 25th), and we have an interesting recipe active over the coming week or so, worthy of note. This is what I wrote in the Daily (for ECLIPSE subscribers) for the Moon’s contact to Sedna, on the 23rd: 1 AM PST of the 23rd the Moon quincunxes Sedna, urging adjustment to the feelings when we might not be sure what’s driving the change! Either something we’re not consciously unaware of (but unconsciously noticing) is prompting modification, restraint, pull-back, or jumping in with both feet, or something from our own deepest nature, from a wordless well of just being, is trying to guide us. In either case, this is probably a good urge to follow; file it under ‘intuition is safe to listen to even when we don’t know why’.

This may begin the dynamic; the emotional perceptions prompt action that likely remains more or less a mystery in terms of what moves us. The ‘T’ makes communication either the outlet for the stand-off between Sedna and Saturn, or it becomes the resolution for the two, translating energies in a pair of signs that are more about perception and experience than they are prone to formulate things in words. Watch the natal Houses of your own chart ruled by Mercury for areas where the Sedna-Saturn opposition is likely to manifest. We may see the reality picture, or the establishment, rules, or structure of things (Saturn) troubled, even challenged, by primal forces–suddenly we’re taking life very very seriously–or we find problems when a ‘blind spot’ which hides some vital component remains unseen. Others will see the difficulty, and the solution, but we may not. This can work out in a variety of ways, but flexibility, a willingness to act and perhaps to defend what may need defending (Mars), as well as a willingness to recognize that sensation, intuition, and those strong, pre-verbal parts of ourselves need not always bend to the mind and those ‘civilizing’ influences to which we’ve become accustomed, will go a long way toward handling this opposition in the best way possible.

13 December we may find ourselves boxing with our own shadows today, with winners being those you can spot the real-world empowerment opportunities and re-align themselves, their efforts, and their attitudes in order to take advantage of the possibilities. It’s a matter of fighting lots of paper tigers we erect ourselves, fantasies, delusions, dream material, thoughts we carry that do not support the persona or its presentation, and much of this distraction is based on the way we are putting our attention on the past. If we allow it to, ‘what was’ enshrouds us in a fog that prevents any meaningful engagement with today. Those who are willing to focus on now, especially on the material situation they find themselves in, and are willing to take a flexible approach in terms of expectations and results, can find their opportunities, as well as their personal power and influence, growing exponentially. 'A Planet as Big as its Star' Artist's concept by NASA {{PD}}

‘A Planet as Big as its Star’ Artist’s concept by NASA {{PD}}

I’m taking off for a few days in celebration of my 29th wedding anniversary; all comments, orders, and correspondence will be held starting morning of the 9th Pacific time until evening of the 11th. Should you find you enjoy this sampler and/ or find it useful, you may want to subscribe and get the full Weekly, the Daily forecast and Daily Image, and free, optional lessons and very-low cost services, delivered right to your email!

9 November Pallas moves into Virgo; the inclination is to be smart and practical, no-nonsense, to take a full accounting of what we have and how to use it–but no, we get a little loopy, a little impulsive, believing any fairy tale we hear–and so perhaps putting ourselves in a bad spot with authorities, Mother Nature, or in a situation where we really should try and negotiate. Channel creative energy into proven outlets or concrete manifestations, and make an overt effort to remain firmly aware of reality–these two measures will keep us out of the worst trouble, and could result in some truly inspired creations or creative ‘forms’ (Neptune quincunx, Earth sesquiquadrate Ceres, Mars sextile Saturn, Mercury trine Neptune)

1 AM PST of the 10th the Aquarius Moon quincunxes Jupiter, asking us to adjust our emotional engagement with the social sphere. It’s an intellectual need as much as it is an emotional one–at the least we should pull back and re-consider any expansion attempts we have underway. 6:30 AM PST the Moon squares Sedna. We may hit an emotional ‘blind spot’ that inspires us to make a ‘wrong move’ (or just a clumsy one). Remove emotion from the action equation at this time. 1 PM PST the Moon quincunxes Vesta. We intuit exactly what we must modify in the intimate relationship, on the home front, or concerning those areas we dedicate our lives to. Adjustment can be quiet and easy, if attended to now–I wouldn’t recommend we wait to make changes, as the next aspect between these two is an opposition–and of course, we’d do better to head a confrontation off at the pass. Void begins at 3:11 PM PST; the Moon enters Pisces at 6:37 PM PST. Luna opposes Pallas; we are shocked by the overwhelming immediacy of our needs, and of our desire to escape, which is clearly unwise. Look outside the Self for some anchoring influences, and a little sensible input. 10 PM PST the Moon conjuncts Neptune and trines Mercury, the latter of which is stationary direct. Flights of fantasy concerning future potentials grab our attention; enjoy them, and study them, for what they can tell you about what you truly want in life. Midnight the Moon quincunxes Ceres in Libra. Nature takes over in relationship–it’s that simple, and direct.

The image for the 11th is a very white cow standing in a very green meadow. The purity of the assets we work with and the areas we work in may be coming into question right now. We’d be wise to note that nothing is as hypernaturally unadulterated as we would hope, and yet we must do our best to maintain an atmosphere that allows the cells to grow in a healthy manner. Instead of railing against things we can do nothing about on a personal level, we can not only add our voices to the cause of a healthy ecology, we can stop one or two of those Self-destructive habits that make our railing about the environment look just a little bit contradictory, at the least.

12 November BIG opportunities come along, but there’s some chafing between our ambitions and what we know to be wise. In wanting to take advantage of the openings that we see, we must take care not to do something we otherwise know is stupid. I think that’s pretty clear. Look to the space Jupiter is now transiting in the natal chart for clues as to what area this opportunity may present itself in, and keep in mind that Jupiter will already be retrograde–that stupid thing we may be tempted to do may actually be a very smart thing, if we’ll only wait until Jupiter is once again direct to do it. (Pallas semi-square Zeus, Sun trine Jupiter)

Enjoy your weekend, and thank you!

‘Femmes de Siloe, Palestine by Felix Bonfils Silver albumen print c1867-1870 {{PD}}

Here’s what I wrote back in July 2012 on the situation:

Was Yassar Arafat poisoned?

My regular readers are probably aware of how much I like to investigate a possible poisoning–these tend to involve classic compounds that have direct astrological correspondences, and so can make for a rewarding quest. In this case, various possessions of Arafat’s have been found to be radioactively contaminated, with our old friend polonium, and so some are lobbying to exhume Arafat and test for contamination. Should we know the truth? Yes, of course; will the indignation that arises, the pointed fingers, do anyone any good, by now? No, probably not, as it’s unlikely a culprit smaller than a government will be found, whether the contamination came from within his inner circle–a traitor, working for another faction–or from a faceless intruder in the name of massive political interests–and making such accusations about entire nations are fraught with peril, in so many ways. And yet, his people and his loved ones have the right to know from what he died–and so we do our part, looking at transits to the natal chart at death, to see if we can find any clues.

Arafat (27 August 1929  2 AM  Cairo Egypt–data is not certain) died on December 11, 2004 in the early morning hours in France. Pluto was moving through the natal 6th of health (destroyed, disruption to the cells, very much like the cancer that long-term low level polonium exposure would generate) and was conjunct his Saturn (destruction of bones/ bone marrow) and his natal Sun/ Neptune conjunction was being opposed by t Uranus which was just one minute off exact conjunct his Earth–Uranus too can arguably represent radiation (the modern, the planet for which uranium, similar to polonium, is named, carrying the ‘charge’ of radioactivity). t Sedna is conjunct the natal Moon, NN, and Chiron (we can’t see at the time what the ‘injury’ is, what it could mean, or what the effects to females in his life–who may also be ill–or the emotional toll–and this suggests he may not have been able to eat for some time). t Saturn was retrograde and within conjunction of his Venus (suppression of the capacity of the blood sugar to nourish, shut down to kidneys), and t Saturn had recently passed over natal Pluto, suggesting manifestation of something destructive, and it’s only this last that points to a possible plot. But, if there was one to deliberately contaminate the Palestinian leader, then we should see it elsewhere, and we do: t Moon as trine Arafat’s Part of Fortune at the approximate time of death, and the transiting Sun and Mercury were both close to conjunction with t Pluto (and thus Arafat’s Saturn, suggesting the transformation of the body), and t Pluto quincunx n Moon (with the Moon possibly being natal chart ruler for Arafat) with the ‘message’ of the Merc/ Sun/ Pluto meeting in this instance perhaps, to borrow a phrase from George Bush, ‘Mission Accomplished’  t Jupiter, playing so prominent a role in the natural death scenario, here is exact quincunx the North Node/ Chiron natal combo, this in my mind implying that the natural death process had been ‘adjusted’ (the quincunx), changing what would’ve been the natural time of departure–good an argument as any for a possible poisoning by radiation–so my vote is yes, he was murdered.

Findings on the exhumed materials (bones, cloth) in the Arafat case have been announced; here’s a good, ‘all sides of the story’ link

From ECLIPSE:

30 September we may enjoy some unusual (maybe even once-in-a-lifetime) chances today that carry great potential for success, and our judgment is excellent–the one thing standing in our way may be our belief that a certain element of the past is inhibiting us. Get beyond this and the opportunities for original Self-expression, academic achievement, and creative innovation and invention are limitless. (Uranus trine Pallas, Sun quincunx the South Node)

And I would add this:

Oh yes, and there’s a tense Cardinal T (Sun, Earth-Uranus, Pluto) that creating a sort of stand-off mentality, a ‘destroy to win’ mode of action. Power struggles are verboten for those who actually want to accomplish–but this is all so obvious, really.

Recognizing the Absurd

Alexandra Day's 'Good Dog, Carl'

Alexandra Day’s ‘Good Dog, Carl’

When my girls were little we discovered a series of books that featured a babysitter named Carl and his adventures with the children he was tasked with watching. That’s cool, right? Except that Carl was a Rottweiler, and the children’s parents repeatedly put them in the most absurd, precarious, and dangerous situations without a care–as Carl would make sure it all worked out.

I loved these books; I have a keen sense of and fondness for the absurd, and I delighted in introducing my children to something so unreal. I still indulge in this, often asking kids of 6 or 7 if they’re married or have their driver’s license. They are old enough to recognize I’m saying a nutty thing, and it’s always fun to watch their reaction–ends up about half will laugh and say something like, ‘No!’ while the rest actually get a little angry, as if to say, ‘Why is this grown-up not playing the social game right?’

So is it just me, or are many individuals, and even larger entities, going to great lengths to convince others to accept the absurd? I’m looking at what’s going on in the sky right now, and we have one of the most solidly realist aspects imaginable at present, the square between Mars and Saturn, that brooks no nonsense and will nail all facts to the table–and perhaps I’m sensitive to the absurd v. the real right now with Mars and Saturn forming the base of a Fist of God with my natal Moon–ouch!–so what’s behind this for everyone else?

Maybe it’s the Ceres-Neptune opposition (Authority faces off against Idealism), or maybe it’s the approaching Finger of God with base of Pluto-Chiron and apex Mars–that’s like a Universal shout out for a Band-Aid® applied with a nail gun! It’s like saying, ‘We’ll heal through destruction, by wiping out the injuries (or maybe the injured!), and we’ll bring about that healing through martial means!’ Oh sure you will.

Usually I deal with the personal, so I think that’s how I’ll approach this question, too. With Vesta as current body of latest degree, we may find people are defending what they see as sacred, whether it makes sense or not, and whether it’s truly worth defending or not. The very idea that this is possibly what’s motivating us should give us pause–and spurred by the quincunx between Ceres and Juno, we might want to adjust our thinking about our own empowerment, and how much we do or don’t need the co-operation of authorities to achieve it. Jupiter and the Sun are in sextile, and Jupiter and Zeus are square; this shines a bright light on the social order, and through conflict on the ambitions and desires of those involved. This should give anyone willing to look a clear enough picture to determine whether we must go along with the absurd, or whether we can free ourselves, with a minimum of hurt (Uranus semi-sextile Chiron).

The Campbell of Glenorchy Family Tree by George Jamesone 1635 {{PD}}

New Moon in Virgo  4:36 AM PDT of September 5th  13 Virgo o4:

‘All In The Family’

The New Moon in Virgo aspects Chiron by opposition, Uranus by quincunx, and Jupiter by sextile. This suggests that the fresh beginnings of a NM are involved with healing, or that they spring from healing which has already occurred; the idea with the latter is that now that we’re healed, we can go on to something brand new. The problem is that either the group or our own urges toward uniqueness or rebellion push us away from this new start, or align us with it in such a way that we sabotage ourselves. We can receive help from the social sphere, through knowledge shared, through publications that say just the right thing, or through prayer or counsel of a spiritual leader. But what is the new start, exactly? It may, in some way, have derived at least part of its meaning from that Moon-Pluto aspect of a few hours before; in stirring up the darkness, or the past, we have put the final piece of the current ‘new start’ into place.

The Sabian for the New Moon is, ‘An Aristocratic Family Tree’. So, if there’s a group involved in our NM beginning, it almost certainly will be one’s family. With that in mind, it seems to me that we should look forward to some aspect of ourselves, harmed by family dynamics or the early environment, now healed, that is the basis or starting point for our own new and unique expression of ourselves in the social circle. A family tree makes us aware of connections, of the ways individuals are entwined, sometimes without much contact or awareness of one another. The point of a NM with this as a symbol may just be that all families carry the romance, the rise and fall of fortunes, the exotic or adventurous members, the successes and failures, that aristocratic families do. It may be our business to regard our own family this way, to find the nobility in it, to re-acquaint ourselves with the things that are quite special in our lineage. Surely these will figure in to our NM new start; something we’ve learned from them, that has been passed down, that is encoded in our DNA, will be an important part of what we begin at this time. Look to the natal House with Virgo on the cusp, and/ or the House where the NM actually falls, for hints as to the areas where your NM new start might occur.
