From the current ECLIPSE:

7 January Oh, we wear our values, loves, wants, and thoughts on our sleeves today, and want to or not, we communicate everything that we care about, but no matter the subject, others will tend to see our values and investments mostly in material terms (thanks to Merc and Venus both in Capricorn and Sedna in Taurus). That means we may be grossly misunderstood, taken to be much more materialistic than we are, or seen as choosing money over love, when we believe we are saying the opposite! Expect assessments of your values to be more about the speaker than about you; the trick here is to know yourself well enough that others’ judgments won’t sway you from your natural course.

6 January Remember those great ideas from yesterday? Today is the day to make plans to implement them, to gain financing and the power to materialize them, and to measure those ambitions against the trajectory of the life as well as their fitness to be a part of the Soul’s overall purpose. We have a keen understanding of power and its costs and worth today, and can understand how to best approach its use on our own and with others; as well, our current reality tells us exactly what we must do to make things work. Relationships can be difficult, if the power balance is off, or one or the other person either oversteps bounds or feels frustrated in expression, though in general a very effective foundation can be laid at this point upon which to build future accomplishments. Taoist Immortals Celebrating Longevity’ Tomioka Tessai 1923 {{PD-Japan-oldphoto}}

Celebrating the beginning of our 5th year, with this first issue of 2014! We talk about Moments with Strangers (oh!), The Ascendant in the Whole Sign system, take a peek at books and movies (including ‘Upstream Color’ and ‘Stoker’), briefly comment on Mars retro, and get the Forecast for the coming week! Order here, at less than $7 per month, which includes the Weekly, the Daily (with a complete aspect-by-aspect Lunar forecast and the Daily Image), as well as free and low cost lessons and services–what are you waiting for?

And for tomorrow, the 3rd: our own thoughts may be the source of so much internal discord; we are at odds with our own desires and ambitions, and can’t help but think our empowerment options are either ineffective or some kind of trap! The Aquarian Moon isn’t helping, with its cool mindset that so easily questions our wants, our goals, our values, and our sense of personal power and authority in our own lives (by Air trine to Zeus, Vesta, and Ceres in Libra, which only encourages us to look to others for reassurance). Funny, then, that if we can get out of our own heads for a minute, we will find a great big ol’ spotlight shining on the wise thing, the smart thing, the answer we’re looking for, right out in the open, there for the taking. 1 January 2014 Wow—talk to others, talk to anybody, talk to yourself, or read, listen to programs or music, eavesdrop, whatever—communication will be a fount of wisdom today. You’ll learn a great deal, some of it useful, some of it merely awesome in its insight. As well, it will be very helpful dealing with the power structure glimpsed clearly today; we can see what we’re dealing with, see how to get our own status a lift, and will locate the knowledge and the skills to handle it all successfully. If we want it, we can put ourselves onto the path of greater power at this point—the appropriateness of this quest will rely on how you define power. (Mercury trine Pallas, Sun conjunct Pluto)

Red Cross poster c1916 {{PD}}

The New Moon in Capricorn occurs at 3:14 AM PST on the 1st at 10 Cap 57

The Cappy New Moon forms a tidy Cardinal Grand Cross with Uranus, Earth, and Mars, and is itself conjunct Pluto and Mercury, and also sextiles Chiron and trines Pallas. We typically tense for a lot of action with such a configuration, especially when the ambulance crew (Chiron) is standing by and the Moon and Sun have hooked up with a major power player (Pluto). What I think we end up with, though, is more of a denouement, a drawing together of all the changes and revelations of those participants in the repeated slow-moving squares into a coherent statement of our changed circumstances. Rather than energies that act as bombs or bullies, we instead see an accounting, a gathering, of all that has come before, particularly from the squares of Uranus and Pluto, and we finally see the way these changes have given us power, skills, and wisdom. Yes! That’s what is left, after all the bullsh*t is distilled out: a scenario of grace and beauty is born based on our new (and certainly improved) power stance.

Some of you may say, ‘Wait a minute—I haven’t received any power! Nothing’s changed for me”—or it’s changed in negative ways, with opportunities deteriorating, with unexpected smackdowns and lots of anger, prompting erratic, often emotionally desperate, action (cue Chiron). Healing and claiming your power would’ve been the result, if you hadn’t gotten sidetracked, probably by anger or a need to rebel. Don’t worry, it happens to us all at some point—and it’s never too late to get yourself together. This Grand Cross offers an excellent chance to accelerate the lesson, to act up and heal, using the power you do have to become a dynamic Being. We’re likely to see this magnified ability in the House of the natal chart where the NM falls, as well as secondarily in the other Houses that hold the Cardinals (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn).

The Sabian for the New Moon is ‘A Large Group Of Pheasants On A Private Estate’. This is a symbol indicating the necessity of finding our tribe. It’s ‘birds of a feather’ quite literally, and the private estate describes that little portion of the world in which we are immersed, well-versed, and active. If you haven’t yet found your tribe, don’t despair—you will—just keep moving toward your dreams (oh my, I’m sounding like a bad inspirational speaker!) and practicing all those pastimes that define you, because it’s in pursuing your fulfillment that you meet everyone else who’s taking the same road.

'The Bathers' Albert Anker 1865 {{PD-Art}}

‘The Bathers’ Albert Anker 1865 {{PD-Art}}

26 December is it the fanciful speculation by those around us that’s grating on our nerves, or is it we who entertain fantasies aloud, to the chagrin of others? There’s nothing wrong with communicating the ideal, the fantastical, or the imaginative, it’s just that some of us may be suffering from a surprising difficulty manipulating the material world, which is just outright irritating, and having to listen to others yammer about Shangri-La at the same time chafes. Our efforts somehow go badly: the physical refuses to be manhandled, so that things like moving furniture or putting up curtains or taking a trip to the grocery store just go badly. We drop the couch on our toes, manage to drill the holes for the curtain rod in the wrong place, and disturb the entire pyramid of Nicaraguan peaches, sending them splatting to the floor. It’s a day to escape, through reading, a spa treatment, movies, creative work, or our other Neptunian pursuits, like swimming or drinking! It’s only one day—don’t overdo. (Perfecting: Mercury sextile Neptune, Earth sesquiquadrate Saturn)

Apparently this is a Christmas card from 1910--but it certainly looks like a hipster

Apparently this is a Christmas card from 1910–but it certainly looks like a modern-day hipster who knows his knots {{PD}}

Interesting that what we label ‘the holidays’ in much of the Western world typically falls in Capricorn. That would seem odd, with Cap’s stodgy reputation (though the affinity for gratitude in this sign is a nice fit) except when we note how Earth, the very planet upon which we sit, is currently (from a heliocentric point of view) nestled in caring, loving, nurturing, mommy-ish Cancer, with the holidays in question centered on the generosity and love that is at the heart of Cancer’s urge to nurture, feed, and ‘fix’. To be open to those Earthly energies, to celebrate them and express our appreciation for others with gifts and song and food (so Cancer!) and then to renew ourselves (like a phoenix, or a license, or a Time Lord) as the New Year begins—and this year we really do have a chance to rise from the ashes, as the Sun of 1 January 2014 conjuncts Pluto, and Mars squares the Sun-Earth axis, providing unlimited energy, the kinetic kind, with a chance to reform and resurrect identity and purpose.

The 21st is the Solstice and the beginning of the Venus Retrograde, the former marking the shortest day and longest night at the equator, with the recipe reversed for the Southern hemisphere, and the latter bringing us temporary changes in values, attitudes toward Love and Money, and often lessening of opportunity in the Houses ruled by Venus—though House matters may play out instead as relationship, aesthetic, or spending choices we later find cringeworthy. Think about how the retro period, running through 31 January, gives us plenty of time for a whirlwind courtship and marriage, enough time to cash out our life savings to invest in that plan for a space elevator or chinchilla breeding scheme (at a time when use of fur may be at an all-history low) or to finance your brother-in-law’s invention that’s been sitting under a tarp in his garage for years, and certainly we do have time to get the Last Supper tattooed on our backs, and the retro runs just long enough that most of us, if doing our worst, could end up jobless, homeless, and/ or divorced if given enough Venus contrarian rope. Be careful, as we can’t count on the reliability of our own tastes, values, or feelings to guide us terribly well during the Venus retro—that, of course, is where the danger lies. The best guideline: don’t do anything that can’t be easily undone, should you change your mind after direction.

‘Composition With Violin’ by Dick Ket–Before 1940 {{PD-Art}}

19 December we may avoid seeing the true nature of power and its expression around us, and we might prefer illusion to ‘the real thing’. That would be a shame, and cost us knowing ourselves better. Embrace what’s wild and creative, and listen for the message in everything—everybody will be communicating whether they mean to or not—some may ‘forget’ important information. (Neptune sesquiquadrate Ceres, Mercury quincunx Sedna)

Today’s image is a beautiful carved music box. You pick it up, lift the lid–what song does it play? It’s a clue as to how you’re proceeding today–any statements, advice, or unflattering choices made by the subject(s) of the song or within the lyrics should be seen as cautionary or advisory, a direct pipeline from the Universe to you.

The Gemini Full Moon 17 December 2013: All Over But the Talkin’

‘Unconscious Rivals’ Lawrence Alma-Tadema 1893 {{PD-Art}}

The Gemini Full Moon occurs on December 17th at 1:28 AM PST at 25 Gemini 36: ‘It’s All Over But the Talkin’’

Our December Full Moon makes two aspects, a trine to Juno and a wide quincunx to stationary Venus. This culmination may carry with it a sense of accomplishment; we are feeling empowered, or have gained status, in some important way, but stationary Venus says we may be stuck: in a relationship, in our sense of aesthetics, with finances, with earning power, with our Art, with what we care about—somehow, we’re in a bind, and it’s just not working, and we likely don’t know how to get out of it.

In Gemini we’re going to want to talk it out, the only problem being that we may find others unavailable to us (the quincunx Venus), and so despite our triumph of empowerment, gaining, status, partnering with the ‘right’ person, or wielding the influence of our position, we may feel anxious and as if this small relationship or financial thing is keeping us from enjoying our win. It isn’t, really, but try telling that to someone who just wants to clear the air!

This is lovely
